Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon don’t want to hire a nanny: how long will that last?

In Touch Weekly has an interesting little admission from Nick Cannon in this week’s issue. Apparently, Nick thinks that he and Mariah aren’t going to hire any nannies. Um. Sure. Mariah probably isn’t due for another three months (I’m estimating…?), so while I can see why they aren’t planning for a nanny right this very instant, I think Nick is jumping the gun a bit:

Although Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey are going to have their hands full with twins – they’re set to have a boy and a girl – they aren’t planning on having any hired help.

“Nah, we’re not for all of the nannies and stuff,” Nick told In Touch on January 29. “Nothing against anyone who is, but my wife wants to be as hands-on as possible.”

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

Yes, little Blueberry Nicholas Sugarcane Cannon and Rasberry Razzle Kitty Cannon will have a nanny, I’m sure. I’m not saying that I don’t think Mariah can handle it – well, maybe I am. But Mariah has surprised me with how low-key she’s been for her pregnancy, so I have high hopes that we’ll be seeing a whole new Mariah emerge, glittery butterfly-like, when she becomes a mom. That being said, Mariah is going to hire help, and that’s not a reflection on how she wants to be a hands-on mom (which I do buy). And until I hear Mariah say the words “I don’t do nannies” I’ll hold my tongue.

I’m not sure, I think Nick may end up being the nanny (Manny). Love the baby names!lol.

  2. Nanea says:

Maybe they will get help from the grannies?

I have no idea how close they are to their mothers, but Mariah’s mom appeared somewhere with her recently, didn’t she? I seem to recall something…

  3. Leticia says:

Brin, you are exactly right, he will be the nanny.

Also she already has a large retinue of staff at hand at all times, so someone already hired could always shift and help out with the babies.

  4. emine says:

i will believe she wont hire not one but two nanies for her kids next time when i get drunk (maybe on Easter)

  5. Canuck says:

With twins? I’ll give her a week, max

  6. Quest says:

With twice as much poopie diapers to change, (reality check) Nick may end up eating those words.

  7. the original bellaluna says:

It will last until they realise that babies wake up every 2 to 3 hours for feedings; need to be changed on a quarter-hour basis; don’t sleep through the night right off the bat; have gas, colic, hiccups; and generally aren’t the living baby-dolls you thought they’d be until they’re at least 3 years old.

But I think the real clincher will be when they realise they consider themselves lucky to be able to brush their teeth twice a day, and lucky to shower every other day or so.

^ *loads of sarcasm, with honesty thrown in for good measure*

That being said, I wish them luck & happiness.

  8. Mel says:

I think Nick has tone Mariah down alot but sometimes he puts his foot in his mouth saying things that Mariah probably hasnt agreed to.

As far as being low key, yeah even tho she loves the spotlight I dont think she wants the public to see her ever growing figure…

  9. renai(jrt) says:

Mariah has a huge awakening coming but when you think about it….all of these hollywoods….none of them were raised with a nanny except Tory Spelling and then they have these babies and think….what do I do with them….they cant go shopping and lunching and…..in comes the nannies… to raise the babies…

  10. samihami says:

This couple is growing on me. I’ve always thought she was shallow and vapid and that he was just with her for the fame. But the longer they are together, the more I like them.

I still think they will have nannies, though.

  11. Mollyb says:

I sure as hell would hired a night nanny if I could have. Man, that would have been sweeeet!

  12. LindaR says:

It’ll last 10 seconds. As soon as she breaks a nail. And I give the marriage 2 more years at most.

  13. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

yeah right. One is taxing enough.. two?

    Nannyville.. trust me.

  14. renai(jrt) says:

That statement reminds me of all the woman that say they are having natural childbirth without any pain meds. That dies quick and hard. Especially when a C-section is ordered.

  15. kelbear says:

My sister had triplets last year(naturally without ivf or anything like that) and did it without an actual nanny but of course had tons of help from family. My mom and her husbands mom basically lived at their house for almost 3 months. I would pop in now and then and the whole time I was there just kept thinking “Get me out of here!”.

Anyway, they may not “hire” someone, but they will definitely need some help.

  16. HEB says:

They aren’t going to specifically hire a nanny but they will have a baby nurse, then all Mariah’s assistants will take on the role of “nanny”

  17. devilgirl says:

Well, it is possible that some celebrities want to be hands on parents, especially when they have tried for so long to try and have children.

  18. macey says:

yeah right… this is coming form someone who has round the clock assistants to hold her glass while she sips and carries her when she doesnt feel like walking.
She’ll probably have assistance for her nannies just so she wont have to watch over them.

  19. Hautie says:

This is a girl who has to have two grown men hold her hands as she walks.

The same grown woman that had her big-ass body guard carry her up and down stairs. For years.

Simply cause she wears shoes she can not walk in. On her own.

So, yes, I can see her being all hands on with two infants. hahaha!

(There is no chance in the world she will be up every 3 hours feeding. And she will end up with 6 nannies. Working 24/7.)

  20. Minx2 says:

No, there will be no nanny, she’ll just hand the twins to one of her maids 🙂 . I’m not saying Mariah won’t be a great mom, but please.. this woman can’t take a few steps on her own or hold her own drink! How’s she going to handle twins? She’d probably snap in the first 24hrs.

  21. JulieM says:

Original Bellaluna: So true about the teeth brushing and occasional shower. I can remember being grateful when I had 10 minutes to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine.

I do like these two together. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mariah so happy.

  22. Erin says:

I think she has more like two months to go… and I definitely think their tune will change!

I actually like them together. They have surprised me.

  23. bagladey says:

Poor Nick is going to end up being the nanny.

  24. Bodhi says:

That statement reminds me of all the woman that say they are having natural childbirth without any pain meds. That dies quick and hard. Especially when a C-section is ordered.

Um… some women are able to stick with their plans & are able to have a natural childbirth with no problem.

Anyway… I would rather have a maid so that I could spend tone of time with the babies. But I’d also need a trust fund so I could stay home from work & afford to paid said maid, so I guess for right now its just me, the husband & 2 very cute but kind of worthless dogs 😀

  25. Happymom says:

I love when celebrities say this. They’re totally full of shit. Of course they’re going to have a TON of help-and I don’t think anyone would begrudge them that. But yes-maybe they won’t officially be “nannies’ but it will be family members, maids, personal assistants, friends. No way Mariah-who can barely walk unassisted-is going to be handle 2 newborns. On a side note, now that he’s going to be a father himself, could Nick maybe dress like an adult instead of a 13 year old?

  26. Kimble says:

I’d have nannies in a heartbeat – I managed nicely with my singletons but twins? I would have no problem hiring staff to do all the running around while I just feed, cuddle and bathe the babies and look fabulous!

  27. Waldemar says:

Uhm. Not really important, but there is a typo in the headline.

“How long with that last.” I think it should be “will that last”

Regarding the post. That statement will bite them in the ass. Mariah needs an assistant to put a shoe on.

  28. Kaiser says:

Waldemor – Thanks for that. I completely missed it!

  29. Bodhi says:

Wow, I’m a typo queen today!

  30. RHONYC says:

hell, as chairman of TEENick with all of his insider access to Nickelodeon, those kids should be lucky to be hanging with their dad most of the time.

between that and Mariah’s over-the-top ‘holiday escapades’ these twins have hit the candyland-meets-disneyworld lottery!

  31. irishserra says:

I like them as a couple, as well. She’s a self-absorbed princess and he seems to cater to that, which works for them. For now, he seems content to stay out of the spotlight and admire his princess and let her be the star, which is exactly what she wants.

I just hope that Nick doesn’t someday decide he wants to be a more public figure. The relationship will all go down the toilet then.

  32. orion70 says:

What’s with all this “he’ll be the nanny”? He’s the father. Sorry but it always bugs me when Dad’s say that they’re “babysitting” instead of simply being home with their kids. No one calls a mother a nanny or a babysitter.

  33. sharylmj says:

that bugs me too. My brother in law says he’s “babysitting” when he’s with his OWN kids!!! irritating!!!
They may not “hire” a nanny like previously posted, but FOR SURE they will have help.. probably family. I really have grown to like these two as a couple as well. They seem like the real deal.

  34. lilred says:

If they are like my brother and SIL Nick will be the more nurturing any way, my SIL is like bodhi’s dogs only not cute just useless.

  35. Scarlet Vixen says:

@Original Bellaluna: You’re SO right on the money! LoL I just had my 2nd baby 2mos ago, and had totally forgotten how time consuming they are! With 2 kids? I consider getting to pee with the door shut a luxury. 😀

Re: “That statement reminds me of all the woman that say they are having natural childbirth without any pain meds. That dies quick and hard. Especially when a C-section is ordered.”

@renai(jrt): Um…I had natural birth without pain meds just like I’d requested in my birth plan. I’m not bragging–just saying that it happens. All the time, actually. My mother had all 6 of us naturally, my sister had 5, sis-in-law had 3, etc. (I won’t even bother to talk about how many unnecessary c-sections are performed.)

By the way, I’ve read several of your posts, and have determined your either a troll, or totally cray-cray. So, maybe I shouldn’t have bothered to respond come to think of it…

  36. Bodhi says:

    Lol@ lilred! I know a few couples like that…

    ITA Scarlet Vixen 😀

  37. Novaraen says:

Ha…I don’t believe this one bit. Mariah has to have several people help her walk…let alone hold and care for two babies. She’ll want help…I guarantee it.

  38. leuce7 says:

I understand wanting to be hands-on, I guess, but knowing you’re going to have two at once, why *wouldn’t* you get the help if you can afford it? I’ve always told my husband there’s no way I’m having kids if my mother’s not within driving distance, and that’s just based off the idea of one.

But I’m sure, like everyone else stated, she has plenty of other help already, and who knows how involved grandma(s) will be.

  39. Jacq says:

She already has a nanny… Named Nick. I think she is laying very low because I never saw a stitch of Spanx at the maternity store.

  40. bored says:

Scarlet Vixen you are my hero.

  41. Kiska says:

I like these two as a couple. Nick clearly adores Mariah and she is probably treated like a queen. However, I don’t see Mariah as a hands-on Mom. She is too much of a diva.

  42. poodlemom says:

Doesn’t Mariah usually have someone hold her straw while she sips her drink? I do not think she is capable of changing a diaper…let alone taking care of babies! I am truly afraid for those kids!

  43. Louise says:

@orion70: I was going to say the same thing. It’s really annoying that people call women hands-on mothers and belittle men by calling them mannies.

  44. stuntfrau says:

    Bwahahahahahahahah

Having done the twins with no help thing myself I can tell MiMi there is nothing noble or particularly fun about it…Oh to have had the piles of cash she’s sitting on…I might have had some rest and actually have had a fighting chance of enjoying the first year. And even remembering it…All a blur.

  45. DSMR says:

Nick thinks that we still believe he is the decision maker. With Ms Glitter, he never had it, never will! Bwwaaahhhhahaha!
