Emily Blunt in frothy pink Elie Saab: adorable or unbelievably tragic?

Last night was the big New York premiere of The Adjustment Bureau, which I personally think looks like a bad movie. I realize that Matt Damon loonies (like CB) will probably want to see it, and maybe moms will want to see (my mother called me when she first saw the ads and asked if I would take her). But I just think the film looks like it has a really asinine plot, and I don’t even like the idea of Matt and Emily Blunt as each other’s love interests. They just don’t seem like they would fit together, at all. It’s too brother-sister. Anyway, for the premiere, Emily wore this frothy pink Elie Saab number that I absolutely hate. The color is wrong for her, and Emily shouldn’t do frothy, frilly stuff. It looks like something Taylor Swift would wear. And then there’s the little matter of whatever the hell is happening to Emily’s face:

Matt looked good, though. And Lucy came too! Lucy looked so much better than Emily.

If I do go to see this movie, it will only be for the delicious man-meat of Damon, Anthony Mackie (this boy, my goodness) and John Slattery (with his son, I think). There are other hot guys in the cast too, but I’m only choosing to recognize John and Anthony:

That doesn’t even look like Emily.

  2. devilgirl says:

That one picture of her neck is down right scary!

She is looking rather gaunt lately. The dress is fug too.

I usually adore her and some of her red carpet dresses but this one is baaaaad.

  3. Rita says:

Her glass eye doesn’t reflect well in the shot.

  4. Jayna says:

I don’t want to be mean about Emily, because I love love her. But tragic from head to toe. Go back to your moody dark hair, Em. and fire your stylist. Too thin, also.

  5. sasa says:

She seems to have lost weight and it changed her face. That first pic with the dress melting into her skin- she looks like she has a terrible skin disease. Those flesh colors are really not for everyone.

  6. francesca says:

    John Slattery is beyond yum.

  7. Auroristar says:

I swear I thought it was Felicity Huffman O.o I dunno if its the angle or what, but she definetly did something with her nose… damn, what for?! she used to be cute and natural!

  8. sisi says:

I like that she tries to look less severe than usual. But the color is just wrong with that hair. She needs something to balance out her fair skin, and she used to have the dark hair for that.

  9. Celebitchy says:

She’s got Botox wonk eye, that’s what’s going on.

  10. Jackson says:

Oh my. I pretty much love Emily but, no. Just no. The color is terrible on her, which is the nicest thing I can say about the whole look. I’d expect to see this getup on Sarah Jessica Parker…

  11. carrie says:

she did something to her face and she’s gaunt and the color of her dress is so tasteless on her

  12. orion70 says:

I don’t know, I kind of think she makes it work.

  13. Eve says:

She’s got Botox wonk eye, that’s what’s going on.

    @ CB:

    Botox’s bunny lines too.

  14. eugene says:

BAD BAD BAD! HORSEY VENEERS AND TOO MUCH FILLERS.
tOO THIN ALSO. sHE WAS MORE BEAUTIFUL BEFORE

  15. Rita says:

    @Celebitchy

Fully dialated pupils are a result of Botox wonk eye? Learn something new every day.

  16. Sarah says:

    God! Take a cookie

  17. eugene says:

HATE THE HORSEY VENEERS!! TOO MUCH FACE FILLERS! EAT SOMETHING GIRL!

  18. sasa says:

    Her eyes were always wonky.

  19. brin says:

I love her, hope she doesn’t mess with all the botox, etc. like everyone else in lalaland.

  20. Isabel says:

    Where is her husband?

    She looks washed out. Blech.

  21. Jewells says:

Thing is, I have the bunny lines and I’ve never had botox. I’ve had them for years and it scares me that people think I had botox!

Though I am pretty sure she’s done something to her face, and that includes botox.

  22. Jane says:

She is terrible as a blonde and has no style.

  23. Aria says:

OMG!!Hate the dress, hate the makeup and hate the hair!! Love her anyway

  24. Alina says:

creepy, to pale, to thin, the hair suckd..even the nailpolish is bad

  25. curegirl0421 says:

She could wear potato sacks and be adorable. I vote cute!

  26. GeekChic says:

Her face doesn’t look worked on to me. She has slightly asymmetric features, and with the wrong makeup and some weight loss the asymmetry will become more pronounced. (And I’m not saying that to knock her — most people have some degree of asymmetry in their faces.)

Kaiser, don’t rule out the movie just yet. It is based on a story (or novel? novella?) by Philip K. Dick, and his stories can translate really well to the screen (see Blade Runner). Of course, in the hands of hack writers and directors, even great source material can turn out to be a crap movie, but it still at least deserves a chance, IMHO.

  27. Droll says:

She’s done something to her nose, I loved her nose! And wayyyyy too thin….why do these actresses feel they have to change themselves this way, it’s a real tragedy.

  28. Fire says:

Anybody else think she looks like Chloe Sevigny in the second pic?

I really like her. This dress doesn’t do a thing for her. I wouldn’t call it “unbelievably tragic” but I would say maybe another color would have been better. I think she looks good in jewel tones. LOVE LOVE LOVE her husband – where is he?!

  29. Happymom says:

Only people with dark skin can pull off this color-otherwise it washes you right out. Also-love her-but she needs to eat a few real meals-and her hair pulled back looks way too severe.

  30. mandymandy says:

    it looks like she’s a burns victim…

  31. Marie says:

    Yikes..

  32. Patty says:

she looks pretty, but the dress id BUTT!

  33. womanfromthenorth says:

Not a good color on her! To fluffy for anyone over 12..

  34. normades says:

Slattery’s son will be mega hot like his dad in 10 years

  35. WOM says:

I’m going to pretend that I don’t see Emily Blunt with her horrible plastic surgery, bad dye job, awful dress, and gristle and just look at Mrs Matt Damon, who is so much more attractive.

Re: #28. YES! I see the Sevigny resemblance, too!

  36. missa says:

    man, ya’ll are so mean!
    Emily looked ADORABLE!
Lucy looks like Elaine from Seinfeld.

  37. Leticia says:

I usually think that people look better on the skinny side, but EB’s weight loss has made her face less pretty. Damon’s wife looks much more vibrant, lush, and sexy.

  38. Judy says:

I think she looks lovely…took me a minute to decide whether I loved the dress–I do, except for the satin belt thing.

  39. I Choose Me says:

I love Matt Damon but the Adjustment Bureau has been done before. It was called Dark City and starred a younger, yummy looking Rufus Sewell.

    What are bunny lines?

  40. malachais says:

Blond hair doesn’t work for her, the dress looks awful. I can’t help but feel suspicious that she never goes to premieres with John, ugh.

  41. Newbie says:

She’s so gorgeous! I’ve been glad that her movie career has been taking off. But this look is terrible. And she’s getting too thin. She’s got the “clotheshanger” look. Why oh why is it such a terrible thing for women in hollywood to have curves? They’re always wanting to get rid of them. Even women WITH curves, who constantly talk about how they’re “proud to be who I am” eventually join Jenny Craig or whatever and become bulimic.

  42. Tinman says:

    Lucy does not look good.

  43. original kate says:

did she lighten her hair for a movie or something? it is really unflattering on her. she needs to go back to brunette. i love the dress but hate the color; if it were black or midnight blue it would be gorgeous on her.

and what are botox bunny lines? sounds bad. and botox wonk eye? omg.

  44. Marjalane says:

Emily Blunt is supposed to be what, 27? She looks at least ten years older than that, and this frilly prom dress makes her look like she’s trying too hard to look young. Why do these women think that they need to celebrate the weight loss and new ‘tox by pulling back their hair into a torture ponytail? It looks ghastly.

  45. Madison says:

Tragic, the hair and dress color make her look washed out and too skinny, she needs to change her hair color and put on some weight.

  46. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

These ladies wouldn’t need all of those fillers if they’d some food in their cheeks. It’s alright to eat sometimes, no? And where the hell is John? We’re approaching the crunch and you’ve got to intervene. You get the burgers, I’ll hunt down a colourist, and whoever has been doing costumes for Kelly Kapoor should come, because Mindy’s been bringing it this season.

  47. Kim says:

The color is very wrong on her skin tone. She looks completely washed out. She is WAY to thin right now also – looks anorexic =(

  48. Lisa Turtle says:

Not pretty. Severe Wonk Eye. Shades of Paris Hilton.

  49. gossip_ho says:

    the dress is hideous

  50. Stephanie says:

Botox wonk eye, right on. That dress is truly unfortunate, and her hair looks so much better down. She is such a pretty woman and just didn’t get it right here.

  51. bros says:

yes, she has always had a bit of a lazy eye, which has been noticeable before she started losing weight and veneering herself.

  52. KateNonymous says:

She looks like SJP, and that dress looks like something SJP would wear. Not the best for her on either count.

  53. marisa says:

The Elie Saab dress is fug.

  54. Laura says:

Matt Damon just gets better with age.

  55. MyKosmo says:

I agree, the color of the dress doesn’t suit her, at least not in these shots. Also, I don’t care for the style and the ruffles, which also doesn’t suit her. Since her hair color was lightened, she can still carry that, but she doesn’t look as dramatic now. I agree, she looks a bit too thin in the pictures for some reason. I just remember her as being with Michael Buble, who I consider to be a womanizer, so I’m thrilled that she’s now married to a completely different kind of guy & seems happy 🙂

  56. Az says:

Meanwhile, how gorgeous does Mrs. Damon look?

  57. Isa says:

I had to do a search to find out what Bunny Lines are. Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellwegger’s picture came up.

  58. Vera says:

I kinda like it the way it is, but it would look loads better if the sleeves ended where the detailing does (the detailing that is the same that goes on the chest and upper-arms).
