The curtain goes up tonight on Katie Holmes’ Broadway debut in the Arthur Miller classic drama “All My Sons,” and the Scientolowife has had to tell her mega-star husband Tom Cruise to back off so she can prepare for her big night. According to sources, the pressure of rehearsing for the play, being a full time mom to 2-year-old Suri, and the demands put on her by husband Cruise have caused Katie to snap and demand some time for herself.
During rehearsals, Tom wanted Katie, 29, to join him in California at least once a week. She flew back to the West Coast for short stays several times. Finally, a weary Katie told Tom to back off until the play opened, a source says.
“Katie’s trying to turn her career around and also trying to be the perfect wife for Tom – and they finally had it out. Tom said if Katie couldn’t come home for the weekend, he’d fly to New York to be with her,” the source said. “That’s when Katie flipped out. She felt that he was smothering her and she needed to be by herself to prepare for the play.”
The “Mission:Impossible” star didn’t make the trip out that time, said the source, “and it gave Katie a small taste of victory because usually Tom calls all the shots,” said the source.

I do remember the time earlier this summer when Katie flew straight from a rehearsal in NYC to L.A. to walk the red carpet with Tom at the premiere of “Tropic Thunder.” She looked completely wiped out in those photos. So it could be true that she decided to nix the bi-coastal visits after that – they must have been exhausting. Reports say the rehearsal schedule has been grueling for the whole cast, and when Katie’s not there she is often seen taking daughter Suri out for a little Mommy time. Good for Katie for finally standing up to her husband. Every mom – regardless of occupation – deserves to have some alone time, and Katie is no exception.
But even though I do believe that Katie is in a controlling situation, and Tom calls the majority of the shots, I also feel some sympathy for him in this case. After all, it’s not just his wife who is thousands of miles away – his daughter is gone, too. I can’t help but think Suri would be a lot happier at home in L.A. with her own room, her own things, and her other siblings around her.

The whole situation is senseless. Why should Katie be working full time on the play, full time as a mom, full time as a wife flying back and forth? It’s retarded, everyone loses (except Tom).
He was just with her, like, last night… in New York.
This doesn’t make any sense. Unless that’s why HE went THERE.
I doubt Katie tells Tom ANYTHING about what she will and won’t do.
Tom just needs to plug her into an outlet and let her recharge. She’ll be fine.

Another dowdy outfit. What in hell is she wearing, shuffling around Broadway looking like that? She doesn’t look like a star but she looks every inch the cult member. Her expression is starting to disturb me. There’s more going on inside her head I think.

Jesus, the header pic (and it seems like, every PHOTO I see of The Bot in the last year)… The Bot has aged like 20 years. She’s my age… and she looks like a 40-something, drug-addicted trophy wife. Yikes.
I hope at some point she grows a spine, but I doubt it’s happening anytime soon.
Damn that’s even worse than previous outfits….she must close her eyes and pick out anything at this point, she must be tired or pregnant or both!
I’ve never liked Tom, and I’ve never cared about Katie. Her expression in recent pics is very sad though. She is not in a happy place. I don’t think it’s just a way of shielding herself from the paps. I hope she finds something of herself again doing this play. I hope she learns how to dress better too!

I’m glad she’s got the capacity to stop dressing like Vicky Beckham. SHe’s always looked uncomfortable and waaay out of her element in the couture. If she isn’t preggers, I hope she is just sick and tired of the painful spike heels and frou-frou and just wants to be comfortable like the rest of the world (except the dumbass Beckhams).
