Mel Gibson pleads no contest to battery charge, won’t do jail time

wenn2753646

But I thought Mel Gibson didn’t touch her and if he did touch her it was only because she’s a crazy golddigging whore who should be rightfully buried in the rose garden, which makes whatever Mel did or DID NOT do completely justified?!? Wow, my mind is blown. Mel Gibson has just accepted a plea deal on that whole “punching Oksana Grigorieva in the face” thing. The plea involves no jail time. Nuts!

Mel Gibson has struck an agreement with prosecutors and has made a plea deal in his looming criminal case … sources connected with the L.A. County District Attorney tell TMZ … and Mel will not get jail time.

Our sources say Mel will appear in court Friday and will plead no contest to simple battery — a lesser charge than corporal injury on a spouse.

As we first reported, Mel had been agonizing over the impending criminal charge — related to the January 6, 2010 blowout with Oksana Grigorieva — worried that a prolonged court fight would be a strain on his family, particularly his children. We’re told … even though Mel believed he could win the case — he struck the deal to protect his loved ones.

We’re told the deal involves counseling but NO JAIL TIME.

When contacted for a response, Mel’s lawyer, Blair Berk, released the following statement to TMZ: “I know from almost 20 years as a criminal defense lawyer that sometimes justice can come for a client at too high a personal price. That is particularly so for Mel, whose right to due process can only be exercised in this case with an enormous media circus attached.”

Berk goes on, “Mel’s priority throughout all of this has been that the best interests of his young daughter Lucia and the rest of his children be put first in any decisions made. It is with only that in mind that he asked me to approach the District Attorney with a proposal that would bring all of this to an immediate end.”

[From TMZ]

You know what? I like TMZ sometimes because they get good scoops and they often offer a particular kind of gritty perspective into the raw slanted stories pushed by a celebrity’s publicity team (see also: Halle Berry, Lindsay Lohan), but for the love of GOD, I really wish they would STOP sucking Mel Gibson’s dick. I know Mel needs his dick sucked all of the time, and if he doesn’t get it done, he gets really, really upset and starts smacking babies, women and trees, but does TMZ’s analysis of the plea deal have to include details like “Mel had been agonizing over the impending criminal charge…worried that a prolonged court fight would be a strain on his family, particularly his children. We’re told … even though Mel believed he could win the case — he struck the deal to protect his loved ones”? For TMZ, Mel = Jesus on the cross.

By the way, did anyone else read Vanity Fair’s article about Mel in the March “Hollywood Issue”? There are a bunch of really petty jabs at Oksana in that piece too, all said by Gibson loyalists. It’s worth a read, just so you can see Mel’s dwindling support in Hollywood, and how they defend him.

    Kaiser you are insanely funny!

  2. Luls says:

Oksana is a crazy bitch. he’s crazy too, but not as vindicative and evil as her. ‘Nuff said.

  3. Nikita says:

    Thank You Kaiser. Well said.

I really don’t want to have an opinion of Mel and his yellow teeth one way or the other. But I read TMZ’s crap from yesterday (or the day before) about ‘poor Mel is only worried about his children’ and I literally laughed out loud at my PC.

    Please.

  4. Toot says:

@ Luls, Why do you consider Oksana “evil and vindictive”, and especially worst than Mel? I would have taped Mel’s crazy ass too if he talked to me they way he did her. No one would believe her at all without those tapes, but with them some people were able to see Mel for what he truly is.

  5. _TheProcastinator says:

Luls how can you say that? Oksana is the innocent victim here. Mel is evil, vindictive, dangerous, vile and psycho. They don’t come much more vindictive, vile or psycho as him. Ok, except Charlie Sheen.

  6. kg says:

its sad that men can beat their wives and nothing happens.

  7. Leah says:

    he’s a major a**hole

  8. Salina says:

Oksana is no innocent but mel is a turd hopefully they will go away for a while.

  9. AE says:

We’re told … even though Mel believed he could win the case — he struck the deal to protect his loved ones.

OMG, What a disgusting pathetic douchebag. Lunatic struck the deal so he wouldn’t have to go to jail and because he didn’t want to be on court where many things against him would be proven.

  10. susieqinBA says:

Mel NEVER had any of his kids “best interests” in mind; his precious false “devoted father” image was his only “best interest”. That is such pathetic PR, and “he believed he could win/protecting his loved ones” (laugh my britches off! yeah right!) Sasha was going to testify and THEN Mel cuts a deal; there is lots of accusations that would be proven true about him, his “loved ones” would be dragged into court forced to testify against him (so of course he wants to “protect” his loved ones from telling the truth! see, he can’t bully/terrorized them in court), so he figured it’s not a good idea to go to trial because the evidence would show that he was NOT framed. Blair Burke is as much scum as Mel is, the DA is too to work this deal.

All I can say is that if Mel is “ordered” into counseling that he SINCERELY gets the RIGHT counseling that would get him out of Hollywood and Malibu and away from all of his people/kids/family that will penetrate his heart and that he would genuinely change; that is the ONLY Mel will ever get the TRUE help he needs.

  11. Kaboom says:

All hail L.A. celebrity justice where even Pol Pot could have gotten away with probation if he had made Hollywood enough money.

  12. Kim123 says:

Actually I think this is a normal for a first time offender. My cousin received probation for hitting his girlfriend and he is so poor he doesn’t have a pot to piss in.

  13. sapphire says:

“Pathetic douchebag” is so true. Wonder how much the plea cost…

  14. Wiggles says:

Mel who?? OOoooyeah, right – almost forgot about that schmuck – and I see there is an Osky basher to followup, sweet.

    Yo Mel

Mel so stupid he thinks taco bell is a mexican phone company.

Mel so nasty he pours salt water down his pants to keep his crabs fresh.

Mel is so mean he makes Onions cry.

Mel’s teeth are so yellow, when he drinks water it turns into lemonade.

    LOL

  15. susieqinBA says:

He’s pleading “guilty” to battery but what about child endangerment which the battery put the children in danger and threatning with a gun?

I guess that was part of the plea deals sleazy Blair Burke worked out with the DA a few weeks ago when Mel was spotted in Costa Rica because the DA was going to file charges. Drop the other charges of child endangerment and threatning with a gun and we’ll work out a deal on the battery charges.

“He knew he could win” but he runs away and gets out of the country when they’re ready to arrest him.

  16. sapphire says:

@kim123, Sadly, you are right. Counseling and probation for the first offense.

  17. DeeDee says:

You guys are crazy if you think Oksana is innocent. She is a golddigging whore who got knocked up for a paycheque.

No woman ever deserves to be hit, period. Whatever he did or didn’t do, he does have an anger problem.

That being said, anyone who tries to extort someone else is lower than the lowest life form. She lied about the level of abuse, and only recorded the tapes for some leverage. Don’t believe me? She signed a deal for 15 million dollars to keep quiet. Everyone close to her has said she either severely embellished the truth or outright lied. (dentist that fixed her veneer, bodyguard, etc)

And before I get jumped all over, my mom was a domestic abuse victim, and there is never an excuse. Just don’t be calling Oksana innocent.

  18. susieqinBA says:

I read the Vanity Fair article. Funny how these people who worked with Mel never knew him to be an alcoholic or anti-semitic. I truly believe he is a generous guy, very very charming this is that Schizophrenic side that deceives people and they even think Mel is a great man at heart, but it was mentioned that there is deep anger/hostility issues in him: duh! that reveals the heart of the man – he is not sincere at heart as these people believe he is. The article mentions practical jokes and “craziness” on the set, I find that kind of joking around not funny or humorous at all; he has a very perverted sense of humor that’s disgusting and VERY childish/immature.

Also, it’s funny how there is no mention of his affairs/flings, partying. Mel has managed to keep his true self very well hidden for many years and deceive all these people. They said it is interesting that he has managed to keep this “dark side” hidden. In one sense it might make you pathetically sorry for the guy. But like I said the ONLY way Mel is going to find his deliverance is that he is going to have to get to his heart and examine his heart intensely (which is not where he wants to go) this is what the right counseling will help him and he is going to have to leave his family/friends/kids/Malibu/Hollywood: Mel is going to have to leave that lifestyle or he will NEVER get the true help he desperately needs. Mel is obviously nothing but a child, a deeply confused, vulnerable child.

  19. Hana says:

to susieqinBA: You definitely got great points. i agree with everything what you wrote.

  20. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

It wouldn’t be his “schizophrenic” parts that allows him to deceive people. Schizophrenia is not a personality term, nor is it something that people can just turn off and on or knowingly use to deceive people.

Did you mean his manipulative parts? His somewhat sociopathic parts/tendencies?

  21. OXA says:

I am appalled at how many people think she deserved to be abused and terrorized by Mel Gibson. How anyone can think she deserved to have her life threatened as he demaded blow jobs b4 burrying her or burning the house down, is beyond me. There is never and excuse for this behavior & I do not believe it suddenly started with Oksana. He is known as an bigot and a bully who habitually screwed around on his wife and kept mistresses on the side. He should be jailed and castrated for good measure cuz councelling for his DUI & rage issues against women and Jews didnt work.

  22. Shy says:

Well I had zero hopes that he will get jail time anyway. So no surprise here. I mean they didn’ sent to prison Chris Brown after be beat up Rihanna. When she was all blooded and everything was proven. How can they sent to jail Gibson for allegedly slapping her. When there are not in-your-face proofs like it was with Rihanna.

But hey – HE WILL OFFICIALLY CONFESS that all of this is true 🙂 And TMZ can suck it with all their anti-Oksana lies. Can she sue them? 🙂 She totally should. And I really hope that now she will sue Gibson too.

And TMZ promises live court appearance of Mel. Can you imagine how humiliating will it be for him to sit there like he is some Lindsay Lohan and CONFESS that he did all those stuff.

  23. Nibbi says:

he really needs to stay clean-shaven. he literally looks like my conception of satan with the mutton-chops and goatee. i mean that’s just bad pr for him in times like these.

  24. Hmmm says:

I think that Mel is a bully, and a woman beater. Also anti-Semitic. Clearly rich celebrity justice has triumphed. If he were truly pure, he would have insisted on a trial.

I am hoping that popular justice gets him in the end. May all his projects wither and die.

  25. Rio says:

I’ve always been on his periphery (my friends and family have either known him or worked for him, I’ve met him a few times, my roommate’s father owns the vineyard that supplies his Communion wine) and we’ve always said the EXACT same thing- from the early ’90s until now.
“Really, really charming guy- buys coffee and doughnuts for the movie crews, great sense of humor. But you look into his eyes when you’re talking to him and realize the man is nuttier than squirrel sh*t.”

As for Oksana- I’m of the sympathetic camp. I’m personally of the opinion that she honestly did not know what she was getting into with him. Was she maybe coming in with a “golddigger” mindset? Maybe. Did she realize how deeply disturbed he was until much later? I doubt it. Like I said, he’s a VERY charming guy. It takes awhile for the “oh, wait…” thing to kick in.

That being said, “golddigger” or not, nobody, man or woman, deserves to get their teeth cracked, to be threatened with death, to even feel the need to record phone calls- no matter what the intention was (for the police or the tabloids). Why are we so quick to beatify Rihanna and tear down Oksana? If the picture of Rihanna’s face hadn’t been released, we WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN what was going on. She never said a peep. So, a woman who stays silent throughout undoubtedly years of emotional/mental/physical abuse is a saint while one who- despite the intended audience- goes public with it is branded with the proverbial scarlet letter?
    How f*cked up is THAT?

  26. Trashaddict says:

I’m going for no residuals. I won’t watch his movies any more. I suggest those of you who don’t like his sorry ass, do the same.

  27. icantbelievethis says:

Hmm, wasn’t TMZ reporting forever that Oksana was definitely getting charged with extortion and Mel not charged. Looks like they need new sources.

I’m glad he got charged with something. Hopefully there is or will be a retraining order in place.

There should’ve been 2 separate charges . . the actual hitting and then the threats.

  28. Chris says:

Fame is a funny thing. After the circus Mel’s life has become you’d think he’d be hanging his head in shame and quietly disappearing from public life with his millions of dollars, but no, he’s still trying to keep his high profile career going. As for the photos my God, he thinks he’s just going to smile his way through it.

  29. Hakura says:

@Shy“But hey – HE WILL OFFICIALLY CONFESS that all of this is true…”

But if Mel is pleading ‘No Contest’… It’s not the same as pleading guilty. He’s basically only saying ‘though there’s NO admission of guilt, there’s a good chance he could be convicted based on the prosecutor’s case’. So I don’t think, under those circumstances, that he has to make any admissions of guilt or responsibility.

I’m really horrified that he’s not getting *any* jail time at all. As someone else mentioned, Chris Brown sure as hell should’ve gotten some kind of time for what he did to Rihanna.

My thing, in regards to Oksana… is that no matter what sort of person she is, or what reasons she may have had for being in the relationship, she did not *force* Mel to act the way he did. (She’s not Charlie Sheen with special ‘extra-terrestrial brain powers’, after all.) So no matter what, if Mel *did* the abusive things he’s being accused of, he should be held responsible for it, which is all that this case is about.

That’s certainly not to say I think Oksana is necessarily a moral pillar by any means, but it’s a moot point *if* Mel is guilty of abuse.

  30. Eve says:

I’m going for no residuals. I won’t watch his movies any more. I suggest those of you who don’t like his sorry ass, do the same.

Same here. Not that I liked his movies to begin with, but from now on (or ever since I heard about his behaviour) I simply refuse to wach anything he’s in.

  31. Crash2GO2 says:

“Really, really charming guy- buys coffee and doughnuts for the movie crews, great sense of humor. But you look into his eyes when you’re talking to him and realize the man is nuttier than squirrel sh*t.”

Ugh that just gave me a shiver. Reminds me of someone I know…

  32. Praise St. Angie! says:

Rio and Hakura, thanks for your posts.

it never fails to amaze me how people will imply that Oksana “deserved” what she got because she was a gold-digger who knew what she was getting into.

I DO think that part of the reason she got involved with Gibson was his money (DUH, why do you think people like Marilyn Manson get hot ladies?) but I also fully believe that she had no idea of the extent of “the crazy” that Gibson possessed. I think, like a LOT of abused women, that side of him was hidden to her, and came out progressively during their relationship. she realized (correctly) that no one would believe her if she simply accused him, so she did what she needed to do to protect herself and her children.

yeah, she’s likely no “moral pillar” (excellent term!) but he could have walked away from her manipulations if he wanted to. VERY easily, too, considering he was the one with the power/money/connections in the industry.

  33. bluhare says:

When he first went public with her, my first thought was she was after his money, and I still think so. I also agree with most of you that no one, no matter how greedy, deserves what it appears she got.

I also think that Mel Gibson isn’t an idiot either, and has to know that most younger women who want to hang with him aren’t hanging with him for his (now lost) looks. I give him props for giving a sh*t about their daughter, but those are the only props he gets. He’s getting off easy. Really really easy. I’m interested in what her financial settlement’s gonna be now (see: gold digger!).

  34. Hakura says:

@Praise St. Angie!“I think, like a LOT of abused women, that side of him was hidden to her, and came out progressively during their relationship.

I agree entirely. That really goes right along with CRUSH2GO2‘s comment… Seeming like such a wonderful person to the world, but hiding something dark & wrong behind his eyes. They’re by far the worst kind, as they’re the most capable manipulators.

I’m sure Mel has given “crying, begging apologies’ & ‘Heartfelt promises it’ll never happen again‘ worthy of an Oscar. But he wasn’t a marionette on strings, being controlled by someone else. He made some very bad decisions, & has to take responsibility for them. Her reasons for being in the relationship was probably both profit-oriented *&* being charmed. She’s made her share of bad choices as well.

But like you said, she didn’t ‘deserve’ to be abused. It really shocks me how many people think it’s ‘justified’ behavior under any circumstances.

@Bluhare” I give him props for giving a sh*t about their daughter, but those are the only props he gets.”

I know this may be cynical on my part, but part of me wonders if his actions with his daughter are genuine… or if it’s just another method to manipulate people’s perceptions, to make himself look more decent. But that could be wrong of me.

  35. hana says:

    to Hakura:

    No.You probably are not wrong.

  36. Hakura says:

@Hana – I really hate to think about it that way. I just hope, for the little girl’s sake, that he really DOES care… & that he gets his issues under control enough not to subject her to them.

  37. REALIST says:

I doubt he was concerned about harm to anyone else but him. Trials tend to be messy affairs that bring out unsavory facts that tend to “tarnish” the reputation of an otherwise sympathetic defendant.
Mel is not a sympathetic defendant. Only Charlie Sheen would receive less good will from the public than Mel-or maybe it’s a toss up. In any case, pleading to a lesser charge-very smart move.
