Is model Candice Swanepoel’s weight loss really that radical?

wenn3273046

Previously, the only opinion I had ever formed regarding Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel was “Oh, Megan Fox! No, that’s not Megan. It’s just some blonde chick who had Megan’s 2008 Face.” Also, in my mind, as I’m reading her name to myself, I pronounce it “Swamp Pole”. For no reason other than the fact that I can’t be bothered to learn how it’s actually pronounced. Anyway, these are new photos of Candice yesterday, doing two events for Victoria’s Secret. As you can see, chica is THIN. Really, really thin. How thin? For comparison, this is a photo of Candice from last August:

wenn2957290

She was thin, but she looked healthy. She looked like she regularly dined on yogurt and strawberries, every other day. The new, radically thin Candice is now becoming a topic of conversation:

When South African stunner Candice Swanepoel made an appearance Wednesday in Los Angeles to model the new line of swimwear by Victoria’s Secret, her slight figure caused a major stir.

Overnight, buzz cropped up about Swanepoel’s seemingly shocking weight loss, given that she appeared thinner in L.A. than she had in photos taken only months earlier. HollywoodLife.com went so far as to call her “scarily, skeletally, stick-thin” and CBSNews.com called her “startlingly slim.”

During New York Fashion Week in November, Swanepoel, 22, told ABCNews.com that she was having trouble keeping weight on. “Actually, this year my problem has been more putting the weight on and getting muscle on because it’s been really busy,” she said. “I’ve been traveling around like crazy. I get skinnier if I’m very busy.”

Calls to reps for Victoria’s Secret were not immediately returned.

[From People]

You can say what you will about Vicky’s Secret promoting an unhealthy body image, etc, but I give them credit for choosing models who look healthy. This does not look healthy, and it makes me wonder if someone from Vicky’s isn’t sitting down with Candice and offering her some Doritos and a milkshake.

I never thought thighs could be too skinny (thighs are one of my problem areas). But I was wrong. That is scary looking. Wow.

  2. Dhavy says:

Alessandra doesn’t look any better in the second picture and is that Adriana Lima? They all look too thin!!!

Candice is a beautiful girl, I hope she stops losing weight

    • Sierra says:

Alessandra has always been too skinny, but ppl aren’t talking about her weight…she’s so boney (especially when you look at her arm in the pic with candace.) candace looks good with a little more weight on her. (she’s still thin but has curves, rather than looking skeletal, like she does in the one pic.) (and if the camera adds 10 lbs, wow… they must look sickly.) Adriana Lima, on the other hand, always looks thin, healthy, and curvy and it’s great to see a woman in VS with some REAL curves and not trying to look anorexic.
(as for the measurements that they keep saying she has…. she can’t be that big! even with the curves.) i believe her tho when she says she looses the weight from being over worked. i’m 5’4″ and naturally about 112lbs. when i got into nursing school(while still working full time and being a single mom), within a cpl months i lost 20lbs. i had never been quite that thin, as i LUUUVVV food. i just didn’t have the time in my schedule to eat or sleep or do anything.. (i liked being thin, but i gotta say, i felt like crap)

  3. Eve says:

When I saw that first picture I thought it had been photoshopped by the same people who retouched those Ralph Lauren’s disturbing adds.

  4. Victoria says:

I want to hold all three of them down and force feed them cheese burgers.

  5. Celia says:

nope. she looks incredibly beautiful! even at this low weight. it works for her!

    • vivienne says:

sometimes people have a hard time gaining weight when they have a lot going on in their lives. I have a problem putting on weight because of my super fast metabolism, and yes i do eat cheeseburgers. Sometimes skinny people are just programed that way.

  6. Kat says:

She looked stunningly perfect, figure-wise, in her “before” photo. Now, looking at her current super skinny shots, I just want to sit her down and give her a milkshake and some pizza. I’m certainly not bashing her for it, though. It sucks no matter your body predicament: some women can’t put on weight no matter how much they try, some women put on weight even *looking* at food.

  7. OtherChris says:

Too skinny. Who is that woman on her left? If that is . . . an actual woman.

  8. Brittney says:

Alessandria looks a lot skinnier, too. I didn’t even recognize her at first. These pictures just make me sad.

  9. sasa says:

I think she only looks emaciated in the first photo and it’s more due to her strange pose.

What is the deal with those hideous robes?

  10. Ally says:

Here’s how to be in management in modeling and in Hollywood. Whenever you meet an actress/model, say: “Lose 10 pounds.” Ta-dah! That is the sum of these morons’ skill set as managers.

It’s really upsetting when girls start out and make a name for themselves as models with a young, slim, healthy figure, and then are told by some idiots that they need to starve to keep working. Two of my favorite models, Anja Rubik and Jessica Stam have thinnified to this point, where it hurts to look at them, like looking at someone with an injury or who is in pain.

Gah, fashion industry, why do you work so hard at being loathsome?

  11. DGO says:

Adriana’s the only one who looks good.

  12. Macey says:

I thought her pic was photo-shopped too.
That is scary skinny but I can related to losing weight rapidly when Im stressed or really busy.

  13. jae says:

ALESSANDRA AND CANDICE LOOK LIKE SHIT

  14. EdithP says:

    Eve, my thoughts exactly.

  15. TQB says:

In a word, YES. It is jumped-back-from-the-computer-screen-in-shock-and-horror radical.

  16. Maddie says:

Scary looking she looks like those horrific photos from WWII.

Men like women with curves no matter how skinny you are, they want to know that their with a woman not a twig.

  17. teehee says:

Do they have no intestines at all?

  18. Missy says:

Some people have very slim features, but very healthy-looking (as in, not gaunt)faces. These pictures of Candice lead me to believe that she is just a naturally slim woman who needs to eat more than others to maintain a ‘healthy’ weight.

  19. anti says:

@#3: i did too. they must have implants, maybe even buttock implants. that side shot of them is horrible, as is the first shot. not sexy at all.

  20. sasa says:

I actually made the effort to look at other photos from the set and I agree she overdid the weight loss. It’s not radical but it’s certainly there. She looked better before.

  21. Carles says:

    Wow this bitch is hawt

  22. KJ says:

There’s actually a picture where she looks far, far worse than Alessandra. If you go to Dlisted its the header pic where shes bending forward and blowing a kiss. She looks awful. Alessandra has always been one of the thinner, less voluptuous models. I would bet that she’s no bigger than a very small b cup. And Candace has always had crazy proportions, she’s got a tiny waist in comparison to the rest of her, but now she looks just frail and emaciated. I’ve never been up in arms about Vickies promoting unhealthy body types because as far as models go, Vickies models are pretty big. The fact that they have actual hips and boobs on most of them is a miracle. You look at the fashion runways and most of those girls are built like skinny twelve year old boys. I hope it’s just a “I’ve been too busy and haven’t been taking care of myself” kind of thing and not something she’s putting effort into. Although I’m not as small as she is at all, I too lose weight if stressed or busy, but if you know you’re like that it’s imperative you make time to eat healthy meals.

  23. jessica says:

What is with her thigh in the second from the last pic????? Is that evidence of photoshop???

  24. TXCinderella says:

She looks really beautiful in the second pic and has a fuller face. In the first pic she is WAY too skinny and her face is sunken in. It looks disgusting. I just don’t buy that she is too busy to eat.

  25. wendy says:

I’ve been waiting all day for Hot Guy Friday only to realize minutes ago….*sigh* …..it’s only Thursday.

  26. LadyBert62 says:

Oh my – that is way tooo thin – that is not healthy. The “before” picture makes her look healthy and normal – the “after” picture makes me think she might have body dysmorphia mental illness – that girl needs to eat and/or see a therapist.

  27. Ally says:

As a recovering bulimic, those pix are triggering, and are probably going to send a lot of young women back to rehab. It hurts to admit, but it’s true.

  28. fizXgirl314 says:

wow, those two girls make Lima look like a full blown fatty…

  29. Heatheradair says:

damn, this is so not helping me on a day when I was already feeling fat and hating my new hair cut (ugh, the envy of all of that long, shiny hair they’ve all got….).

I don’t agree that she’s necessarily one of those girls who struggles to keep weight on – I tend to believe when we’re taking care of ourselves, our bodies will level out at their healthiest place, even if it’s not the most swimsuit-catalog-ready number on the scale.

    This girl isn’t eating.

When the weight loss is rapid and it’s noticeable and it makes people uncomfortable to look at, it’s a problem.

And sure, it probably IS due to stress and not taking care of herself (I drop pounds when I’m emotionally wigged out, too). But it’s still pretty dramatic.

all of that said: I find it hard to blame the girl – they’re being expected to show up to lunches and functions in bikinis. I’d be starving myself to within an inch of my life, too….

and hey, even underweight she still looks ok (all of them do) so it’s hard for me to hate on ’em much (as I sit here trying to re-adjust my muffin-top in jeans that totally feel too tight today :))

  30. motheroftheyear says:

A thin fashion model?! Why, I’ve never *seen* such a thing!

  31. fallen says:

I agree, she looks great in the second pic but her and the women to the right look unnaturally thin. Adriana looks great though.

  32. P.M. says:

Damn. I’d seen months ago that Ambrosio had lost weight & was starting to look gaunt but this? Just the difference in the size of Candices’ thighs holy crap. Lima’s the healthiest looking of them. Is that why all their heads look so big cause their bodies are so skinny?

  33. Rachel says:

She looks like Kate Bosworth now. That is NOT a compliment.

  34. Rita says:

My tummy wasn’t that flat when I was 12 and I was a slender child. I wish these ladies would enjoy their beauty instead of being slaves to it.

  35. dutchie says:

Her name is probably derived from a word like ‘zwanenpoel’, meaning something like a pond full a swans or sth

  36. danielle says:

I think Adrianna Lima is the only one of the three of them that looks healthy…and she’s still very thin. Makes me sad that girls think they need to be that skinny to be beautiful.

  37. Aries_Mira says:

That is downright scary. She looks like a cartoon that’s drawn all out of proportion.

  38. jinni says:

If Victoria turns my Doutzen into a bobblehead, I’m going to cut a b*itch.

  39. theoriginalsisterkitty says:

I am shocked at the commenters who think she looks good at this weight. I looked at her and thought she is going to die soon. I know a someone who suffers from anorexia and it has triggered a whole set of diseases as well as making her age. There is no man I know who would think that is attractive. Not one man…The modeling industry is sick and I never put my daughter or son into that scene

  40. mariangela says:

It’s pronouced Swun uh pole 🙂 say that and No south african can be offended unlike the way Charlize THeron’s name is pronounced in America 😉 haha I’m only kidding fyi

She looks far too thin, she is so gorgeous and healthy in her before so her after looks horrible. It’s not just too thin, it’s emancipated to the point that it just looks gross. First picture is the worst. It doesn’t suit her so I hope it’s temporary.

Her face however is gorgeous, I love it at any weight 🙂

  41. theoriginalsisterkitty says:

On another note..Alessandra looks like she is really phoning it in this photo shoot. The blonde is trying but her emaciated body outshines anything else. Adriana is the only one modeling and she looks good. Work It!

  42. Alix says:

    @ jinni: You said it!

I think the photo’s been way ‘Shopped. I certainly hope so.

  43. sasa says:

“There is no man I know who would think that is attractive. Not one man”
    ————————–
Go to a male oriented gossip site like Moejackson and you will find A LOT of men think she’s attractive.

Honestly, while I think she’s too thin, I don’t think she on the verge of death or anything like that. She probably lost like 6 pounds from her previous weight.

  44. Solveig says:

If you want to force them to eat, at least give them something healthy, not cheeseburgers. It’s not like you save them from anorexia killing them with high cholesterol levels.
Anyway, she’s really thin but her bone structure is also very thin to begin with. Therefore her weight loss seems even more dramatic. She’s not anorexic looking, although the first picture is absolutely scary, her pose doesn’t help.

  45. RHONYC says:

god, long gone are the days of the 90’s victoria secret models that could turn even the straightest broad even a ‘lil’ gay and blow her entire check on a ton of their lingerie. *a-hem*

it might be just me, but uhhh:

~ gaps between the upper thighs

    ~ shoulder bone impressions

    ~ and exposed rib cages

have N-E-V-E-R been sexy in lingerie.

VS, please oh, please do an anniversary issue and bring back the greats:

tyra, stephanie, jill, claudia, laetitia, karen & cindy for the love of god b4 someone starves themselves to death!!!

    “goooo MEAT!”

    😉

  46. Turquoise Blue says:

She looks crazy thin. I’m not sure how much difference it is from her previous weight though. Remember, the ‘curves’ Victoria Secret models have are fake – pretty much every single one of them has breast implants. Alessandra looks skinnier too, almost like they’re competing with each other or something.

  47. Dana M says:

OH.My. Lord. That is just very disturbing to me. If I were a VS marketing exec, I would have given her some time off to get healthy. I would not want my brand to get negative press. (Alessandra isn’t looking any better…she looks sickly too. Look at her arms).

I can’t imagine anybody wanting to look like these skeletal models. Just gross. These images do not help to lure me into a Victoria Secret store. I guess I am not a target market….perhaps targeting tinny bopper girls?! Sad.

  48. spotchecker says:

at this point, she should have both her bone density & cardio related health checked, as they can both be severely impacted by any severe weight loss. i knew somebody anorexic/body dysmorphic growing up, luckily they grew out of it, b/c they are very tough to deal w/. i hope someone gets serious w/ her [and anyone else out there dealing w/ this] very soon @ her health b/c the longer term effects don’t just disappear.

  49. sasa says:

I hate to say it but I honestly feel she would look better with bangs. Her eyes would be more pronounced.
    :tapeovermouth

  50. poodlemom says:

These are the scariest photos I have ever seen. They all look like “lollipops with fake boobs”. How do the plastic surgeons get those fake boobs to stay on those stick bodies?

  51. Kim says:

EWWWWWWWW!!!!!! Who would hire her as a model- she looks sick!!!! Esp Victoria Secret – those women need curves. I really hope she is just an anomole and is genetically this thin and not on drugs or anorexic.

Lifestyle/traveling is not an excuse. You can eat anytime esp protein. There are protein bars etc. she could take to every country in the world and be able to eat.

  52. marycontrary says:

    Ally-
Sorry to hear that these photos trigger you (and probly other women too).
It pisses me off to no end that this is our society’s beauty ideal and ppl are literally killing themselves to attain it.
    Stay strong. Stay healthy.

  53. sorrento says:

You know if these girls had gained a few lbs there would be side photos and hits of a baby bump, there’s no winning at what one considers beauty anymore, something’s got to give so we can all at least strive for normalcy.

  54. Isa says:

I remember seeing some pictures yesterday and being surprised that she has a bit of cellulite. (I know skinny people can have cellulite, I’m not sure why I was surprised but I was.) http://www.popsugar.com/Pictures-Adriana-Lima-Alessandra-Ambrosio-Candice-Swanepoel-Bikinis-Victorias-Secret-15330185?page=0,0,1#1

I didn’t notice she was so skinny. I’m starting to worry about my eyesight. My husband says she is waaaay too skinny. I didn’t ask, but I’m sure he thinks she is still beautiful.

Am I the only one that doesn’t think Alessandra is that beautiful? She’s certainly not ugly, I’m just kind of meh on her.

  55. sasa says:

I find it very very sad that girls can be triggered from photos like this.

However, I feel that if you are insecure and impressionable to that level and so focused on the outside, it’s going to show up in some way or another.

And, Candice aside, there ARE a lot of girls who are naturally thin. It’s not a myth it’s reality. Quite a few of them are actually unhappy with their thinness.

Society has problems but the root of them is not at the what’s pretty debate, it’s a lot deeper (and so covered over with piles of different issues, it’s difficult to see). But I would venture it’s closer to: why does there have to be a uniform “pretty” when we’re all so different.

  56. Snarky_Pup says:

    @Isa,

Thanks! There is a God! Ha ha!

I think they all look great. Candace is a bit too thin but she just seems to have that sort of body. I don’t like whatever she’s doing to her lips but I think she’s a gorgeous girl. Heck, they all are!

  57. Marie says:

As I sit here eating my enchilada I think hahaha skinny bitches you are missing out!

  58. sasa says:

Isn’t it a bit sad that we want to break the rules on what society deems pretty and at the same time shred the girls who are too thin to pieces? So in pretense of trying to do a positive thing actually do a negative thing.

Yeah, not much growth comes out of judgment. It’s like putting a band aid on pneumonia.

  59. Trillion says:

Imagine how cranky these girls are, and if that in itself weren’t bad enough, they’re paid to smile. It must pain them.

  60. Becky says:

Beautiful face but otherwise “tits on a stick”. Good luck finding someone that thin with breasts that full that aren’t fake. I know there are people out there who are naturally built that way (very thin with a full bust) but I haven’t met too many. It’s not a healthy or realistic image. High fashion models have always been very thin but twenty years ago the lingerie/swimsuit models were much healthier looking.

  61. Clairej says:

Not sure she is even beautiful. People seem to love her, but get nasty about far more beautiful people on here. To me just has the same old usual look – big hair, fake lips and skinny. All those Victoria Secret models look like each other, its almost boring. Adriana looks the best. The girls of the 90’s were so much more glamourous.

  62. Isa says:

    Snarky_Pup–I know, right?

I think her weight loss looks so drastic because she was already so tiny.
She had a 23 inch waist before.

They do all look great. Alessandra and Adriana have babies and that just kills me. Of course I didn’t look like that before I got pregnant but still! haha.

  63. sasa says:

Neither her lips nor her boobs look fake to me.

“It’s not a healthy or realistic image”
If you put a realistic image it’s going to be an overweight person. Honestly, if everyone ate healthy and worked out there would be many more people looking pretty close to what models look like then there are now. Yes, models come from tall and thin stock but it’s not like they are aliens. They just work a lot on their appearance and wear a ton of make up and flattering clothes. I find them to be pretty much like everyone else.

  64. Kira says:

Wow, that is too thin. I don’t find that flattering at all. Adrianna looks ok. I refuse to support any fashion house that endorses women this thin. I’ve never bought from Victoria’s Secret and I’ve always wondered why women would buy anything from them??? Further, their loungerie is made like crap and falls apart after only a short time.

  65. dovesgate says:

What I don’t understand is if she were starving herself, how could her hair look so shiny and gorgeous? Isn’t that something that gets affected when you’re starving? Only so much of that can be extensions unless its a wig. Can anyone tell if its real hair or not?

  66. Sparkly says:

Wow, she looks so absolutely proud, but she doesn’t look very good at all. 🙁

  67. Dingles says:

“I get skinnier when I’m very busy.” What a load of horse sh!t. I’m so over these anorexic women making up lame excuses like they’re just too busy to even grab a bagel or they simply forget to eat. Sorry, but no one is THAT busy, and if you go without adequate food for a couple of days then trust me, your body will remind you to eat.

“Oops! I’ve been so busy that I’m now 15 pounds underweight. How forgetful of me!” Yeah, whatever sweetheart.

  68. Cali says:

My goodness she looks starved and Alessandra doesn’t look much better. They are very pretty and naturally thin already so when they push it– geesh please stop before your heart give out it really doesn’t like malnutrition. The only one that looks great and healthy here is Adriana.

  69. KJ says:

Actually Dingles – not everyone stuffs their face like gluttons when they’re stressed or busy. It’s actually a very legitimate idea – because it happens to me. I’m by no means anorexic. I’ve never had an eating disorder. In fact, if anything is wrong with my eating, it’s that I eat very poorly and unhealthy. I eat fast food more than 3 times a week, and I don’t watch my weight or count calories. But I have a naturally high metabolism. And when I’m stressed or busy, my appetite goes down. Those are facts. Don’t lump everyone into the same group simply because you don’t understand the sentiment. I’m not saying that definitely is her issue. It very well could be but it’s just as likely that she has an eating disorder. What I am saying though is that people who lose weight while stressed do exist, and the busier you are, the more stressed you can get. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp.

  70. Pirouette says:

Dingles, I totally agree. That’s a lame excuse. Not many people would really care if she admitted that she intentionally lost weight (unless, of course, she has a disease that causes rapid weight loss). Even if she has an eating disorder, people still think she is “hawt” and tell themselves whatever they want to justify their apathy and superficiality.

  71. leeloolab says:

@sasa – the boobs may not look fake to you, but they ARE fake. You might want to revisit your concept of a natural woman’s body if those implants are fooling you…

Adriana looks gorgeous, and Miranda in the other posted pics today, in the dress – she looks incredible! Those are women who inspire me to buy Victoria’s Secret lingerie 🙂

  72. sasa says:

I have no appetite when under extreme stress. When my dad was very sick I lost too much weight. It was a bad period and it passed. Does that make me anorexic? Can you be anorexic for half a year if you’re at your normal weight the rest of your life?

Further, does eating unhealthy junk food constitute an eating disorder? It IS disorderly eating.

Skimming through these categories, how many people are actually free of a disorder?

  73. Confuzzle says:

I just want to see them eating a vegetable. I get the feeling their diet is smokes and uppers.

  74. moi says:

she has no muscle tone – or VERY little. the other girls, especially Adriana, have muscle and some fat, which makes them look healthier.

she may be naturally slim, sure. but she looks unhealthy.

  75. miri says:

unhealthy weight shows better when you look at their shoulders, the bones in them should not be showing.
their hair is kind of covering them up, but you can see the sharp edges of their shoulders in the one with the white dress and the other with alessandra and the blonde girl.
adriana is just right. Oh, boy, gone are the days of
heidi klum, tyra, Naomi, helena, Herzigova, Seymour, etc… now even lingerie models are becoming anorexic looking, not womanly.

  76. Anonymei says:

All the girls are beautiful and thin. Compared to the older pic this girl is no period, heartbattack waitiing to happen thin. I hope she gets back on track. The other two look healthy.

  77. Kiska says:

Don’t they say that pictures/film add 10 pounds. Can you imagine how skinny they look in person?

  78. mew says:

Just yesterday read on WHO:s page that MILD thinnes is BMI 17-18, moderate thinnes is 16-17… compared to that, it’s not so bad. She’s tall, her BMI is probably 17,5 or so, so no worries. WHO says so!

  79. LaBetenoir says:

haha, in case you’re interested, Swanepoel is a fairly common Afrikaans surname, and it’s pronounced like it looks: Swan-a-pull.

That chick is trumpeted like the second coming around here. So I’m interested to see if the local dudeblogs even mention her skinniness….

  80. Addie says:

Her surname is pronounced Swan -uh-Pool.
A very common surname here in South Africa, just like Theron is pronounced Teron, again very common surname here.

  81. NicoleAM says:

I happen to be underweight for my height and I have been all my life. I do not have an eating disorder, never have. I take offense with the usual garbage that is written in repsonse to these posts: REAL women have curves, no man would want a twig etc etc. Everyone has insecurities and it is equally hurtful to bash skinny women. And I’ve had no complaints from any of the guys whom I’ve been with! Some men actually prefer smaller women and some prefer curvier. If the issue at hand is that you fear she’s starving herself than stick to the issue and stop lumping all thin people together. May be hard to believe but we’re not all on a 24/7 diet. I enjoy my bacon cheeseburgers aplenty thank you very much!

  82. Mrs. Darcy says:

While I do agree that people can be too stressed/forget to eat (I have rarely been one of them!) – I have a good friend who is a skinny bitch, love her to death, but she can not eat for the whole day, then sit down and consume three courses and not gain an ounce(and no, def, not bulimic). I do think metabolism varies wildly in people. I do find it weird when models use this excuse however, their bodies are their bread and butter, from a young age the way they eat and look is given intense scrutiny. So when one of them suddenly loses a lot of weight I find it hard to believe they are that unaware of what they are doing.

  83. Anna says:

Well she makes the other two girls look big, I think that’s saying something. (I’m not saying they are big AT ALL don’t get me wrong they a miniscule and perfect, but if you’re the same height and look way smaller than them you must be really really skinny)

  84. samihami says:

“Some people have very slim features, but very healthy-looking (as in, not gaunt)faces. These pictures of Candice lead me to believe that she is just a naturally slim woman who needs to eat more than others to maintain a ‘healthy’ weight.”

Actually, that isn’t true. It is very common for anorexics to have painfully malnourished bodies and still have more normal looking faces. I don’t think the medical community knows why that occurs. But I know it to be a fact–my mother has been anorexic my entire life and you wouldn’t realize it by looking at her face.

  85. sasa says:

“@sasa – the boobs may not look fake to you, but they ARE fake. You might want to revisit your concept of a natural woman’s body if those implants are fooling you…”

What are you, her plastic surgeon? I’m not saying it’s impossible she has implants, I’m saying that you’re innocent until proven guilty and nothing about her boobs screams implants. Even my small boobs can look like that with a high power push up.

    @Miri
My BMI is always around 18-18.5 and the bones in my shoulders are clearly visible. It’s a build thing.

I’m not saying she not too thin, she is, but screaming anorexic and shredding the girl to pieces is not a very positive message to send. It doesn’t help other skinnies, doesn’t help anorexic girls and I would venture to guess it also doesn’t help fatties (even if it makes them feel better for about 3 seconds)

  86. Maddie says:

Most of you are commenting on her being naturally skinny, well if she is naturally skinny then she was fat before, she lost a lot of weight period.

Being naturally thin is one thing she isn’t naturally thin or this would have been her weight for the last 5 years.

She is too thin and with all this craziness going on with children and obesity you would think people would be more concern, because all this “she looks good” when she really doesn’t sends a scary message to young girls who are already under pressure in this day and age.

P.S. Tori Spelling is what I would call naturally skinny, I know she had those photos going around when she too loss way to much weight.

    —————-
I didn’t see it like that. I saw that most said: starved, unhealthy, disordered, gross..

She’s been a VS model for I dunno how many years, gave an erection to thousands of dudes probably.

Now she got too thin for whatever reason (to me she still doesn’t look like she’s gonna topple over but whatever)- what are VS supposed to do, fire her? If you think of it this way- her body is her working tool then she’s having a bad period at work. Everybody does at some point. It will show in her results without people pointing fingers and calling her ill.

  88. snapnhiss says:

I used to think the Victoria Secret models were sort of intimidating in their beauty and hyper-femininity, if that makes sense. They were all perfect specimens of womanhood, with their sleek yet voluptuous figures… yet these recent models look like they’re a step away from dying. Who are they supposed to be appealing to in the marketplace? At least with Tyra or the others, I could dream of looking that fantastic in lingerie, I can’t imagine anyone aspiring to look like this.

  89. lucy2 says:

Looks like she’s naturally thin, but then went overboard. The other photos aren’t as bad, looks like a normal skinny model, but the first photo and the one at D-listed are really telling – unless they’re Photoshopped, which would be a relief.

  90. jello says:

Once upon a time I thought the Victoria Secret models were sizzling hot. But when I saw these pictures my first thought was Yikes! they barely look human, more like scarecrow thin, blow up porn dolls.

Who does this appeal too? Even accounting for the over done plastic sexuality—most men like their women with some meat on them.

  91. Mizz Tickles says:

    Great post Rhonyc!

  92. sasa says:

Why is it so much about what men like? Yes the average guy likes his woman booby and plump. But selling lingerie (or clothes) is not just about appealing to men, it should be about appealing to everyone.

Those girls have to be eye candy for men but at the same time they have to be unique looking (or else everyone could model) AND they have to appear somewhat girly because if they seem overtly sexual young girls just wouldn’t identify with them. Not an easy task when taking everything into consideration.

  93. MsCatra says:

Those are the scariest thighs I have ever seen. I, too, tend to not eat when I’m really stressed or upset (the thought of eating actually makes me physically nauseous when my throat feels tight), so I can understand that, but the girl owns a mirror and any normal, healthy person is gonna look at that image and realize it’s time to force some food down.

  94. MikeyAngel says:

She is so beautiful, it is sad to me that she obviously felt the pressure to get so very skinny. It does appear to me that this goes beyond the, “I am naturally thin and have a hard time putting on weight” theme that has resounded over and over. On a side note, I am not too fond of VS not having extra large sizes. I am a little chubby for sure, but I am no heifer, I have a thicker build at 5 foot 8. At my most perfect I was 150 pounds and a size 8 and had a rockin’ body, and this is when I was an athlete and worked at a golf course doing manual labor picking up golf ball baskets, etc. I think it is bs that you have to be like a size 10 or below to wear their clothes. Us normal sized girls like to wear sexy stuff too. Pisses me off.

    ITA!
As for that “I’ve been traveling around like crazy. I get skinnier if I’m very busy.” doesn’t mean that she – or people who face the same issue – doesn’t eat, but more probably means that the body burns calories faster than usual, getting skinnier. I’ve been through rough periods and although I ate like a pig I lost weight. It was a scary moment in my life, and the fact that although i ate much I lost weight made everthing even scarier..

  96. MaudeLebowski says:

Her knees are the broadest part of her legs. That first picture with the frontal stance makes me physically ill.

  97. TeeTee says:

what’s sad is she THINKS she looks great and she doesn’t..she almost scary.
The pic doesn’t even look real.

    not cute.

oh my god, the US doesn’t spend billions of dollars on the “weight gain” industry so if you’re lucky enough to be thin just count your blessing and STFU *eyeroll*

Adriana is the only one in the picture that convince me that she’s skinny and healthy! The other two look like skeletons
