Christina Aguilera slams Lady Gaga

fp_7262978_aguilera_christi
I saw the first episode of The Voice last week, and if anyone needs a “poker face,” it’s Christina Aguilera. She regularly makes expressions to show her disappointment when a contestant is revealed as less than svelte or somehow non-traditional looking. She generally comes across as a superficial person, and seems much less nurturing than the other judges, particularly Blake Shelton. (Shelton has apologized for his anti-gay remarks on Twitter, which he explains were a rewrite of a Shania Twain song.)

As part of the show, the judges pick a team of singers (after the “blind” auditions) and coach them to compete with other teams. It sounds like it was during one of the mentoring sessions that Christina went off on Lady Gaga in a scene that had to be cut from the show.

Christina was unable to contain her feelings [about Lady Gaga] during a recent taping of “The Voice” – and began blatantly bragging about how much more entertaining she is than Gaga.

“Christina told a contestant she was 10 times better than Gaga, said her rival was annoying – and expressed her amazement that Gaga ever got famous,” disclosed a set insider.

“It caused quite a scene, and producers insisted on reshooting the segment.”

Christina has had other shocking outbursts, and she has become extremely unpopular with show staffers. One describes her as “a bitter person with an ax to grind about everything,” adding that the singer’s cursing requires that her on-camera comments be heavily edited.

“She’s like a bitter old woman trapped in a 30 year-old’s body!” said the insider.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, May 16, 2011]

I believe this. Back in 2009, someone asked Christina if she thought Lady Gaga was copying her, and she denied knowing who Gaga was in an hilariously bitchy way. “I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure. I really don’t spend any time on the Internet.” Lady Gaga in turn called the comparisons to Aguilera flattering and said she should send her flowers.

Two years later and Gaga is all over the place with hit singles, touring and raking in the dough while Aguilera’s last CD was a big flop and she’s forgetting the words to the National Anthem. I could see Aguilera going off on Gaga. It’s just a shame that producers decided to cut those scenes, because the show could have received even more buzz. I’m surprised we haven’t heard more stories about how Christina is drunk and/or generally wreaking havoc behind the scenes.

  1. Tigger says:

As much as I don’t want to be sticking up for Christina, she is much, much more talented than Gaga. I mean her Stripped album is still one of my favourite albums. Besides, she was one the first popstars to ever stand up for gay rights.

  2. Marjalane says:

A comparison of these two is like trying to choose between a tornado or a hurricane. Neither is very appealing.

It is funny on The Voice how clipped and compact her comments are- I figured they must be edited.

  3. brin says:

Sounds like a real-life “All about Eve”. They could do a remake and call it “All about Diva”

  4. Hautie says:

I watched Oprah yesterday and GaGa performed live and she was great.

But I also realize it has to hurt poor baby Xtina not to be the “It Girl!” anymore. Yet, I am waiting till she enters rehab shortly, for exhaustion.

Cause she is still looking like a hot mess.

  5. Tiffany says:

What is going on with this girl. I know she was never known as the smartest or nicest person but she has talent and seemed to have good people around her. Are they gone? Christina can learn a few things from Gaga about how to treat fans and be confident w/o being a bitch.

  6. Ja says:

Maybe Cristina can’t find the right words but I get the message and I think she’s right. Singing is about voice. Period.

  7. Jacq says:

Watching her rip on Gaga would be about the only thing that Xtina could win me over with. Or off the rails stories about careening around backstage wasted.

  8. Elizabeth says:

    @ Ja
I would agree that singing is about voice. But entertaining goes beyond that – and that’s what Gaga, Britney and Madonna understand. When Xtina won the grammy over Britney, she said it showed the grammys recognized her for having a better voice (or something like that). And that is true But entertaining people is about the total package – acting, dancing, staging, etc.

  9. zxc says:

And year later Xtina has #1 tv show and Gaga is flopping. Life is full of surprises.

  10. tapioca says:

Gaga may have won the most recent battle, but I can’t help feeling Chritina’s going to win the war, especially if LG sticks with her recent commitment to putting all her energies into image over music. As long as CA doesn’t start huffing on a crack pipe like Whitney she’ll always have her voice – and I genuinely believe she can make a comeback like Mariah did with the Emancipation of Mimi after all the Glitter/cutting/insanity debacle.

  11. hottathanholywatta says:

Its sad that she has to put down another female entertainer because there’s more than enough room for both of them in the industry. It just goes to show how terribly insecure she is. Her last album flopped, her movie was catastrophically bad and she’s a drunk. Time for rehab

  12. lucy2 says:

I think she’s been pretty good on the Voice so far, but who knows. I hope she gets her personal life together, it would be a shame to see her spiral downwards because she is really talented.

  13. Samigirl says:

…I was about to say, wasn’t this feud a big deal in 09? CA is old news.

  14. Missfit says:

Hypocritical much? Yes, Christina sings so much better, but she needs to stop being so cocky about. Even some of the artist she has claimed to like (Rhianna or whatever) can’t sing for shit and are about image too. But other than Christina singing better, her slutty image is the same crap as Gaga’s. And her acting like a loony ranting bitch on that show is only making me dislike her even more. I hate fuckin divas that act like their shit doesn’t stink.

  15. Lala11_7 says:

My…Chrissy is REALLY coming off as a “C U Next Tuesday”!!!

I would rather listen to Gaga than listen to her bombastic voice that has NO subtelty (sp?) at all…

    And I’m not even a Gaga fan…

This is what Chrissy has done for me with these remarks…she has ensured that I will be watching Gaga on Saturday…

  16. NayNay says:

I personally do not like either one of them, but she is SPOT ON about GaGa. Christina has one hell of a voice, and gaga, not so much. Gaga, to me, is a talentless hag.

  17. Marc says:

I love how american press and blogers call Burlesque total flop and her other stuff as well. You know in the end Burlesque made over 120 000 000 $$$, she sold 1 200 000 copies of her cd last year. And i don’t think she is drunk all the time. So it’s not that bad.

BTW she is great in The Voice.

  18. decent mama says:

@tigger: one of the first pop stars to stand up for gay rights? Please! Get your gaystory right.

  19. Amy says:

Christina can sing but her music sucks and she doesn’t write anything. Gaga is a singer AND a musician and actually writes her own stuff.

So, Gaga can pull the craziest stunts and say the stupidest things but will always come out ahead in the talent department, if you ask me.

  20. KimnotKardashian says:

She can talk as much shit as she wants because she has the voice to back it up. Personally, I love the boozy floozy. Continue being outrageous, Christina!

  21. EarthWindFire82 says:

Christina was THE chick some years ago, and has fallen off. She’s angry that she isn’t selling like she used to. Truthfully, I think Aguilera’s voice is stronger, but GaGa is talented as well.

  22. MJ says:

@Tigger – Xtina was definitely not one of the first pop stars to stand up for gay rights. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Cher have been activists since the early to mid 1980s.

  23. Janna says:

What a joke. Another made up story by the Enguirer. It all sounds totally unbelievable.

And I have watched the show, and I didn’t think Christina would work. But she has come across very likeable on the show.

  24. Janna says:

@Amy, before you make such statements, learn your facts. Christina co-writes almost all of her music. She co-wrote almost every song on Bionic. And she definitely did on Stripped, because it was an auto-biographical album, except Beautiful she didn’t write. Every song on there was personal. On Bionic, many of her collaborators talked about writing with her and about her definite ideas.

  25. garvels says:

I believe this. It is really sad that Christina has squandered her talent. I personally think her voice is far superior to Gaga but she lacks Gaga’s discipline, drive and focus. I really don’t care for Gaga’s bizarre personality but I do enjoy her music.

  26. honeychurch says:

Gaga > Xtina. That is all.

  27. bluhare says:

Christina Aguilera started drinking her own KoolAid quite a while ago, and it’s not doing her any good. divorcing her husband doesn’t seem to have helped her one bit; seems to me he may have done a lot to keep her under control.

Yeah, she can sing it. Problem is she can’t just sing; has to embellish every frickin’ note. She’d be well advised to put some serious energy into that show; if she messes up she’ll have a long climb back up.

The only thing she can slam well is a vodka tonic. And don’t get me started on the weaselly boyfriend.

  28. vale says:

I still suspect that it was Gaga’s people that started the whole thing in 2009 about Christina Aguilera looking like Gaga. A marketing ploy to garner attention to Lady Gaga, because honestly, I read gossip sites every day and only heard of Gaga at first through the “trolls” commenting. That’s just my opinion.

  29. bored says:

i love her on the Voice. I’m over the Madonna impersonator.

  30. original kate says:

lady gaga is a decent musician but her voice is hideous and all her gimmicks are stolen from other artists, even the pod. spinal tap did the pod much better in the 80s, gaga.

as for xtina i wish she would get her shit together and just sing as she does have a lovely voice. maybe she should reinvent herself as a jazz singer or something and step away from the pop crap.

  31. jover says:

Thank you original kate for referencing spinal tap; gaga’s a marginally talented increasingly annoying hack; Spinal Tap is brilliant – i wonder if gaga and her little monsters would even get Spinal Tap; no true artist would release Judas and be so self-deluded to think that song/vid were anything but forgettable junk.

  32. thinkaboutit says:

Sure she has a voice but she isn’t entertaining. That’s why she was always “the other one” to more compelling pop stars. She has a nasty attitude that is written all over her face. No wonder she was forced to cancel her tour – who’s going to pay $90 to go see a miserable heavy has-been frown and exercise her vocal cords for 3 hours?

  33. wendy says:

Gaga is incredibly talented. People that think otherwise are out of their minds. It’s one thing to not be into her music but to deny someones ability to play the piano and belt out live tunes is so stupid.
Xtina you can sing but your awful vocal gymnastics make me not want to listen to you.
Gaga is sooooo fun live!! Best money I ever spent both times I saw her.

  34. Lisa says:

And this is why Gaga is laughing all the way to the bank while this poor drunken wh0re is becoming more and more irrelevant as the days pass. I’m not a fan of either, but please “Xtina” you’re past your prime. Now go sit somewhere.

  35. Janna says:

@Lisa, you really believe everything a trash magazine has to say and immediately condemn somebody? Enquirer has to fill a ton of pages week after week. Probably 20 percent is true of the gossip stuff. A writer for them once spilled the beans after he quit and said they made up as much stuff as they could get away with and that they were rarely sued because it was too time-consuming, expensive.

  36. Kim says:

Christina has a way superior voice to Lady Gaga but she is a mess in her personal life and her hey day is over. If she said these things about Gaga it just makes her look petty & jealous.

  37. Lisa says:

@Janna-I’m stating what I see and Cristina’s actions speak louder than words. She’s a mess PERIOD. I’m not condemning her at all. But you probably know her better than I do or so it seems *shrugs*

  38. TXCinderella says:

Christina is jealous because everyone loves Gaga…and her records are selling. Christina may have a beautiful voice, but it comes from an ugly place.

  39. Kimberly says:

Xtina is just pissed that Gaga is selling better than her. Gaga’s last CD isn’t good and neither was Xtina’s.

I agree with above Xtina’s stripped cd was the best!!!!

That was so long ago though and before xtina became the bitter drunk she is today.

  40. Elfie says:

I believe you don’t need sparkles or awesome choreography to entertaing. If I go to a concert, is too watch the artist on live. Not the awesome dances, that’s just a plus.
There’s something called Eurovision, and last year’s winner was just there singing and dancing like crap, while other contestants wore shiny dresses to impress. Christina should just do another ‘Back 2 Basics’ album, and she would totally slam Lady Gaga. Come on Chris, I’m rooting for you.

  41. Lia says:

I’m not a fan of Aguilera, but in this case, if she’s dissing GagGag, I’m on her team. Gaga is talentless, so she has to be outrageously ridiculous in order to draw attention away from her pathetically homely face and less-than-stellar voice.

  42. bagladey says:

Christina Aguilera comes across to me as a pig.

  43. harfang says:

I’m embarrassed, I’ve continued to feel that at the very least Xtina has a great voice. I didn’t know about the insane arrogance, or about her blatant transphobia, exposed in her snark about Gaga. The wolves to which Christina is throwing herself can freaking have her.

  44. Cherry Rose says:

I’m sorry, but why is everyone all “Ooh, Gaga can play the piano and sing live and does her own lyrics”? Frankly, there are many female artists that can play the piano, such as Tori Amos or Amy Lee of Evanescence. Plus, they fully write all their own lyrics.

Writing lyrics for pop songs doesn’t take a rocket scientist, sorry to say. Most of it is drivel and has no real meaning to it. Pretty much anyone could write lyrics for a popstart sadly. It takes a true talented person to write lyrics that are meaningful and deep. Gaga’s songs are neither.

While I do think Christina does have an awesome voice, she has always been second fiddle to Britney Spears (her main rival for quite a few years) and her main problem is that she always tries to play catch-up to other popstars out there.

If she just went her own direction, like Back To Basics, and stopped trying to compete with other popstars in what’s hot, her career would not be where it is now.

It’s sad to see a popstar who actually has the vocals to set her apart from everyone else to try to be exactly like everyone else. That is what makes her fail. She’s not like other popstars, and should realize this.

However, her comments about Gaga are spot on. Gaga should have never been as big as she is now. She consistenly rips off other artists, such as Grace Jones, David Bowie, and Madonna, and hopes that her fans (who are mostly teenagers) will not realize that and think she is doing something new and avant garde. She’s not. She even ripped off Shikee from Android Lust from one her of costumes that was featured in Android Lust’s Stained video.

Let’s not forget that Gaga was recognized as a poseur and laughed out when she tried to make it in the rock scene.

Gaga’s star is fading fast, because more people are realizing how talentless she really is and how much she blantanly copies from other artists, who were much more successful and greater than she will ever be.

  45. hmm says:

You know the show is a hit when the knives come out. Yesterday it was Blake Shelton and today it’s Chapter 46 in the Xtina is evil chronicles.
I know when it comes to negative stories about her, no proof is required even if the story sounds compeletely made up. If she had made these comments we would have heard about it weeks ago when they taped the shows in front of a live audience.
It’s funny that there were no stories on here or on any of the other anti-Xtina sites when The Voice did so well, but if it had flopped there would have been banner headlines. And she is as charming and genuine as the other judges on the show and they ALL express their disappointment or joy at the appearance of the contestants.

  46. jemshoes says:

Sounds like Christina just isn’t in a good and happy place at the moment, personally or professionally. My 2 cents is that I still think Christina can sing, and has a real voice, compared to her “rivals” Britney (back in the day) and Gaga (here and now).

  47. Conando says:

Yeah, this story was proven to be complete bs by people who attended the tapings and those who work on the show, especially since they haven’t taped a new episode for over a month:

    http://rumorfix.com/full-entry/2011/5/5/did-christina-aguilera-slam-lady-gaga-during-a-taping-of-the.html

  48. dovesgate says:

@Cherry Lee – Exactly. Give Gaga a piano and a mic and lets see what she can do without all the show supporting her. I heard a hint of what seemed like talent from her at some awards show (VMAs or Grammys?) and yet, all she actually releases is ripped off pop that needs the outlandish costumes and crazy videos to distract from the fact she steals from other artists.

BTW – Love me some Tori. I hope she adds US dates to her tour this fall sometime soon. I will gladly shell out my hard earned money to see someone whose music touches my soul before I will hand it over for someone who shows she lacks originality with every track she “borrows”.

  49. Kosmos says:

Personally, I do not like Gaga and I have to agree with Christina as to why it is that Gaga ever became this big in the first place. Christina definitely has a far better voice than Gaga, but C sounds so arrogant and over the last year or so since she’s come back into the public eye, she seems so different than in her earlier years. She doesn’t appear to be more than just a good voice, sorry to say.

  50. maaak says:

@Cherry Rose: Thank you for mentioning Shikhee and Tori Amos, two of my favorite musicians. However, this statement is very curious:

“Let’s not forget that Gaga was recognized as a poseur and laughed out when she tried to make it in the rock scene.”

This sounds like the same treatment Tori Amos received in her Y Kant Tori Read days before she starting copying Kate Bush’s sound and album covers. It seems she and Gaga would have much to talk about.

Gaga is not the most original, surely, but she’s very uncompromising in the way she presents herself, and she’s worked hard to get what she wants. She presents worlds for her fans to explore, a lot like Tori Amos would in her Choirgirl Hotel or Scarlet’s Walk eras.

The fact of the matter is that people are going to be similar. You can call it being inspired by someone, or you can call it ripping someone off. Whatever it is, Madonna did it for years; “Hung Up,” for instance, is an Abba song with her voice instead of theirs, but I could point you in the direction of a few people who aren’t aware of this. (Perhaps Madonna paid them to forget it altogether.)

I see people trashing Gaga for copying because she’s new, and a lot of artists who are finding their footing have to be compared to someone. Gaga, however, has set herself to be the standard in her field of showmanship, and if Alice Cooper says Lady Gaga is doing something right, then she must be. He did shock rock before Bowie and Grace, after all.

  51. Cherry Rose says:

@ maaak – Sorry to say, but David Bowie was around long before Alice Cooper. For his first album, Hunky Dory, Bowie dressed up like a woman for that period, so in terms of shock, Bowie came first.

But it’s nice to see another Android Lust fan around here.

  52. JenJen says:

Good for her, it needs to be said, this Gaga thing is a flash in pan. I can’t believe the way people suck it up. She was on Oprah saying my sister, that is 19 is a clothes designer……Really, what did she did before….

  53. Caz says:

The only way Xtina can get publicity now is to diss another performer, or fall down drunk. As another poster said, there is room for two. Xtina has always been arrogant and bitchy. Thrown in a truckload of jealousy too.

  54. Jag says:

#22 is right, isn’t one fo the first stars to stand up for gay rights. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Cher are early activists and Jennifer Lopez is supportive of the gay community too and there are others.

#33 Is absoulutely right…I was going to say the same thing. Lady Gaga is a piano player and truly writes her on music. I doubt that Christina A does…there were rumors about her and Joss Stone
offering sexual favors in exchange for tracks from producers.

I’m not a fan of either but I don’t doubt that Christina is obssessing about another popstar’s success and being insecure rather than pull herself together.

    #50, good point!

  55. MourningTheDeathofMusic says:

    #8 Elizabeth:

I listen to music via the radio. It is my ears that are in need of the entertainment, not my eyes.

If I’m going to put forth even a dime towards going to a concent to see someone in person, I don’t need them flaying about on stage with a mass of other visuals to detract me from the performers actual lack of true talent.

  56. jeff says:

theres no denying christina has the better voice, but gaga is more entertaining.problem is,christina comes across as downright nasty, whereas gaga is…well….odd.thing is,though,in 30,or even 20 years time there’ll be newer big diva stars having hissie fits at each other, who are constantly in the tabloids.britney, rihanna, xtina and gaga will either be forgotten,or fading memories.

  57. Kat says:

Haguilera is one to talk about contestants’ looks…chick looks ROUGH lately. Fat and haggard.

She’s always been rude and nasty, so I have no problem insulting her. Took a backseat popularity-wise to Britney 10 years ago, and now is jealous of Gaga.

  58. Patrick says:

There is no comparison between Xtina and Gaga. Aguilera has lyrical depth while Gaga’s music makes noise. Aguilera is original while Gaga wants to be the next Madonna. Every major artist will have an album that doesn’t sell well. As for as Gaga, she is just getting started. What do people actually get from Gaga? Her music doesn’t speak volumes or depth. And with me being gay, I feel like she just stereotypes gays as if we are freaks or queens which is not cool. Some of you need to realize real talent and Gaga is not it. Do your research on how many people Gaga has copied from Madonna, Xtina, and Grace Jones, etc. By the way Xtina’s “Bionic” doesn’t sound nothing like a Lady Gaga album. You people give Gaga too much credit for her narrow music.

  59. kat says:

Umm this is not true christina did not slam lady gaga. People make stuff up all the time for a story. First of all she has an amazing voice and does not need to slam other celebritys. People would say she was slamming britney spears all the time when she was not. Christina does not need to slam anyone and she will come out back on top like she always does because she can genuinely sing.

  60. theking says:

cherry rose knows her stuff! fyi: gaga writes only some lyrics, and almost none of the music, and then it is edited by all the professional producers. if you want to hear a real song gaga wrote start to finish you can just go to youtube and listen to all the horrible amateurish demos.
