Paz de la Huerta’s Esquire pictorial: budget, tacky, trashy or…?

paz2

As you may remember from Katrina Bowden’s “Sexiest Woman Alive” pictorial, Esquire is currently doing a new thing for their masturbatory photos. They call it “Me In My Place” and the Esquire photographer goes into a woman’s home and basically just photographs lots of “cheeky” shots of the woman in her underwear. It’s all pretty cheesy, and the whole thing looks like low-budget porn. What’s that you say? Cheesy, porn, half-naked? That’s Paz de la Huerta’s siren call!

So Paz is profiled in the new issue of Esquire, and you can see the full slideshow online here. It’s pretty meh. I prefer Paz on the red carpet, just because the photos are SO much better (better = worse). Here are some highlights from the “interview”:

Being in a woman’s place? There’s something about it that feels like you automatically have intimacy. Especially with someone you’ve never met, it’s really strange. Because you’re not sure whether you’re going to have chemistry or not. So the intimacy can be forced. I try to stay away from forced intimacy.

On muses: There’s been muses throughout history, from Anaïs Nin to Henry Miller, Henry Miller to Anaïs Nin.

Fashion: It’s my new thing, wearing long black gloves. I have longer ones than those. I think people forgot how elegant gloves are. And sexy.

Growing up: I grew up in a loft. We used to live right on West Broadway between Prince and Spring, before Soho was a shopping mall, and we had huge cactuses. When I was a little girl I’d always crash into them, because I’d be dancing in my tutu and — bang! — I’d have nettles in me and I’d be crying. It’s my aunt’s loft. But it’s really like my home. Because I had a lot of turmoil in my upbringing, and my home wasn’t really a safe place for me. So that place became my safe haven. I grew this bond with her that’s really been one of the most beautiful relationships of my life — a relationship that was a salvation for me.

A safe place: When I have to do my work — and find a safe place — that’s usually the place that comes up for me. I have to create a safe place. It’s always been a place that’s represented a lot of nurturing and love and safety.

Paz loves the camera: I love being in front of the camera.

On her Boardwalk Empire character: Lucy is a very complicated woman — like most women — and a lot of the time she was very lost in her relationship with Nucky. She was in love with him, but she didn’t know how to be herself in that relationship fully and have him love her. So sometimes she would use her sexuality to protect herself or to get what she wanted. Not that she’s not a sexy character — and in Season One of course it’s a part of her, but audiences are going to see more of the real her. It’s going to be very different.

She’s in the Linda Lovelace movie: I’m not playing Linda Lovelace. So me and the director decided — he wanted me in the movie but I wasn’t sure about what role I wanted to play. And then I said, “Okay, but we have to work on this, we have to evolve it.” I don’t think we’ve talked about porn, but she’s our creation. I’ve yet to step into her shoes.

Boas: I love boas. I have a few. They have to feel good. They have to be made of nice feathers. Sh-tty boas are tacky.

[From Esquire]

Thus spoke The Paz. Dear God, she’s a hot mess. And shock of all shocks, she had a troubled childhood! Gee, who could have foretold that one? Let me tell you something – no one from a well-adjusted family ends up like Paz. NO ONE.

Oh, and sh-tty boas ARE tacky. She’s right about that. Of course, all boas are pretty sh-tty.

    I dig it.

  2. teehee says:

? Is all I have to say

  3. Annie says:

I think she can be quite beautiful, but she needs to cut back on the booze, it’s really aging her fast.

  4. chloeee says:

she just can’t be natural. what’s with the budget porn face in almost every picture?

  5. brin says:

Um, your character in BE is a drunken whore, that’s not complicated, Paz.

  6. honeyv says:

wow. looks like a prelude to porn. and @chloeee you’re right.

  7. Rasputina says:

Well, she’s got a beautiful profile. What ever, I want to get with her.

  8. ! says:

Holy crap it’s nice seeing her in a lighter lip color. It changes her entire face.

  9. ursula says:

without the red lipstick there is hope for her. now about those bangs…

  10. X says:

Oh, Cele, you know how I love my Paz; hot messes and all.

  11. jenn says:

Nice body, still a buttaface. Just paperbag that thing already.

  12. Quest says:

Ah…nope! She is creeping me out in those pics. It’s highly budgeted scary rather than trashy but still very tacky

Me in my place = Paz in a corner holding her ass, cause no one is doing it for her?

  13. Franny says:

she could be so pretty if she just wore a flattering lipstick color, and put on some eyeliner.

  14. gee says:

    I second “!’s” comment.

  15. Rita says:

Word of the day…Masturbatory. It’s a word one does not see very often but appropriate for so many celebs.

  16. Lala11_7 says:

Personally, I like anybody who can “drop it like its hot” in FM heels like she did in the last pic…

    I like her…she’s a bit off…which I like in my actors…

  17. Kim says:

    Trashy, tacky, ugly, etc etc

  18. WYIJM says:

The interview is… not great, but otherwise I love her. She’s crazy, but at least she’s different.

  19. girl says:

I do not think of Lucy as a sexy character.

  20. Kimi says:

First time I’ve seen her where she’s not all greasy looking.

  21. guesty says:

She’s the epitome of a hot mess.

  22. Laura says:

I’m sorry, I hate to be judgemental about someone’s looks, but this girl is NOT attractive.

  23. TeeTee says:

    she scares me!

  24. TXCinderella says:

She’s looks great…from the neck down. Why doesn’t this chick ever wear eye makeup? If it’s allergy related, surely there is makeup out there for people with allergy problems. She needs to ditch the stripper lips and put on some flattering makeup.

  25. flounder says:

    She’s kind of creepy/scary/intriguing.

  26. Alina says:

I like the second pic (where you can see her profile).. the photoshoot is tacky, cheap, trashy, but somewhat interesting ..kinda just like her

  27. gosh, she’s so…. soooo… anyway, is she such a brilliant actress or something?

  28. kg says:

loz a hate round these parts
    i think she is beautiful

  29. bb says:

    shes lookin good

  30. Ingrid says:

meh. The only thing that seems to set her apart is her ‘I don’t give a shit’ attitude – which can be good to grab attention, but is it the right kind of attention? How far will an attitude like that get you…the gutter? lol Her craziness is a turn off for me, but to all the guys that would bone a chick like this – more power to ya!

  31. bluhare says:

The woman can work a camera, that’s for sure.

  32. NayNay says:

In my opinion I think she is a low budget piece of trash. She is one step away from becoming a porn star.

  33. Sloane Wyatt says:

Paz looks great here; her body looks healthy and so does her skin. I don’t buy that she’s a complete, drunk all the time hot mess; otherwise Her complexion would be whack and her face would look cracked out Lindsay/Tara style.

Maybe Paz does her makeup look purposely as sort of a disguise? By putting out her sex kitten act right upfront, by being the provocative free spirit, and by seemingly promoting herself as an open book, Paz could in reality be creating a layer of privacy.

Coming from a volatile troubled background, I can see where she might want to put some distance between herself and the world, and personal safety seems to be a big thing with her.

The hipster thing she does with nude eye and red lip is like the ugly librarian whipping off her glasses, shaking free her hair, and turning into the Beauty.

  34. maggiegrace says:

Ima sick of this bitch. Bug off “Poth”

  35. harfang says:

Why do people other than me who are attracted to women like to look at this person? Her body is completely unremarkable and she has a hatchet face. At least she entertains me via the Fug girls, but beyond that I’m at a loss, I don’t get why she has mass media visibility.

  36. Camille says:

In some of those photos it looks as if she is about to eat your face off; as in a zombie about to eat your face off. *shudder* Scary looking woman.

  37. Hanh says:

Her face is so fug. Ugh.

  38. Jess says:

I just don’t understand men AT ALL.

  39. Deven says:

Why is this an article? Because she’s in Esquire? The magazine that should cost 25 cents? Don’t give her space. She’s absolutely horrid. Why encourage ciphers?
Is it a slow news day? I’d rather see a blank space than her picture. Just thought you’d like to know.

  40. Pat says:

To say she has any kind of depth is a joke. She’s a fall down drunk that likes to screw around. I can see why guys would like her tho, she looks like a wild, hard ride. And there’s no need to make any effort to swoon her, just buy her a drink and you’re in. She’s the type of woman you take to the back alley, not home to see ma and pa LOL

  41. lolalola says:

    That is one homely girl.

  42. original kate says:

her body and face are average at best and she seems like a raving bitch. i don’t understand men, either.

  43. Emily says:

Wouldn’t hit it if you put a paper bag over head and wrapped me in a full-body condom.

  44. Annaloo says:

God, I love her face. I LOVE her, she ‘s like a constipated looking car crash. LOVE HER.

  45. Mimi says:

I am shocked that anyone thinks this woman is good looking.

  46. sandy says:

hey, if all those other horrid actress can get attention, why not her? she is no worse than the other face lifted, botoxed, plastic, etc. i like her, she’s honest about what she wants and who she is, more power to her, continued success.

  47. truthzbetta says:

    WTF?

    “A woman’s place.”

I’m sorry, but that is a slam. There are too many misogynists in Hollyweird.

Can’t wait for women to rise up to their rightful place, alright. Some of us will be gentle, some may not.

  48. Crash2GO2 says:

I have to applaud her nude eyes. Sets her nicely apart from the Kar Krashians of La La land.

  49. Chris says:

She normally looks like a bag lady, so this is an improvement.

  50. Hakura says:

I just do NOT find this woman attractive. Like someone else said, she does have a nice profile (& body)… but other than that… Ick.

Not trying to be bitchy so much as honest… She has beady little eyes (that she NEVER lines), & big unpleasant fish-lips. I just don’t see pretty whatsoever.

  51. Sumodo1 says:

    Creepy scary!

  52. lisa says:

She wants to be the Next…

  53. Rasputina says:

Well, true. She’s not beautiful. But I, a heterosexual female, for some reason, want her. Total biscuit haze here. Maybe I fall for bad girls, if I fall for any at all. She’s outrageous and I love it.

  54. ViktoryGin says:

    Is this woman an actress?

    How?

  55. Erika says:

I’ve never seen her act, so I cannot speak to that – BUT, seriously, how can you say she’s not attractive? She is beautiful! Wonderful figure, lovely face.

In fact, most – but not all – “celebrity” women are very good looking, even the ones we (including myself) love to hate.

Seriously – just because you or I might think they’re hot messes, that doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful.

  56. Lulu says:

She reminds me Asia Argento…same odd, strange kind of beauty. I think women react strongly to her because there is a part of us that wishes we could be her…wild, daring, with a “f*ck it, f*ck em attitude”. However, society doesn’t allow us to behave this way…not without being labelled a whore, a drunk, a hot mess. She gets to act out the secret, hidden desires we all fantasize about from time to time.

  57. Hakura says:

@Erika“Seriously – just because you or I might think they’re hot messes, that doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful.”

Well, when one is generally thinking someone is a hot mess, it normally causes them *not* to find them beautiful. She does have a good body, & her profile is nice. But other than that, I just can’t see it. I don’t know if it’s the lack of makeup around her eyes, or the harsh unflattering super-dark lipstick.

Perhaps she is pretty, but is hiding it behind the makeup. I’ve never seen her act, though, so I can’t speak to that.

  58. Lana says:

I love Paz. She wears what she wants and doesn’t care about whats trendy. She is refreshing to look at. I’m sick of that same old look of fake eyelashes, hair extensions, spray tan and nude lipgloss look. Paz is sexy in a natural way.
