Chelsea Handler and Reese Witherspoon’s drunken speeches: funny or lame?

wenn3378604
Chelsea Handler was at the MTV Movie Awards last night, where she presented the Generation Award to Reese Witherspoon along with Patrick Dempsey and Robert Pattinson. Chelsea giggled uncontrollably as everyone else spoke, and she seemed somewhat blitzed as usual. She looked great, for her, in that she had that awful pee-yellow blonde hair fixed (leaving dark roots like Madonna, to add depth or something and not wash her out). Her makeup was pretty and flattering, and apart from the bulging Botox vein in her forehead she looked good – again with the qualifier for her. Her bunchy Lavin dress was underwhelming and not that flattering on her figure, but it wasn’t terrible. Her shoes are just ok with that outfit.

At the MTV Movie Awards, Chelsea delivered her lines in that kind of lame monotone she uses for everything. She joked that Reese had an ass smaller than Justin Bieber even though she has two kids. Then she said that “So far, the only flaw I found is your decision to do Legally Blonde 2, but I forgive you.” Then she added “It’s ok, we’re friends.” Of course they are and of course Chelsea wants us to know it. They share the same rep, Stephen Huvane, were seen out to dinner together last month, and are co-starring in the upcoming comedy This Means War. Kaiser reminds me that this is Chelsea’s big debut, so she really needs to sell it. What better way than by hitching her star on Reese?

As for Reese, she wore a cute form fitting leopard print dress with nude heels. (Her ankle must have healed already.) Her hair was loose and pretty and I like her look and find it kind of effortless. I was going to say that she’s not pregnant, but I swear from the side she could have been. I just think she’s a healthy weight now and not stick thin.

I just watched Reese’s acceptance speech and she did seem a little drunk, so maybe the pregnancy angle is out. She cracked “I got really nervous when they told me I was gonna get this award, because Sandra Bullock got it last year and she made out with Scarlett Johansson. And then they told me Chelsea was giving me the award and I was like ‘Who knows where her mouth has been?’” She also dropped the F bomb when she was talking to Robert Pattinson, saying “By the way, Rob, the punchline to your joke was ‘I played your mother then we have a sex scene, so really you’re the best motherf’er in Hollywood‘.” I guess Pattinson also dropped an F bomb during his speech, and that neither Reese nor Rob’s F words were censored by MTV at first, which may cost them with the FCC. Reese was referring to the two movies she’s done with Pattinson, Vanity Fair in 2004 (his part as her son was cut) and Water for Elephants this year.

She also said that “I just want to say to all the girls out there… it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. When I came up in this business you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed. And, like if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone you hide your face. [laughs]. It’s totally possible to be a good girl.” Chelsea made a (sort-of faux) sex tape years ago and sent it all around hoping to drum up some interest in her mediocre comedy act, so Reese may as well have been addressing her instead of the audience and (presumably) Blake Lively.

I think Reese’s comments were directed at the Kartrashians and Blake Lively. Also I can’t believe Chelsea and Reese are the same age, Chelses looks so much older. Oh yeah I forgot Chelsea is lying about her age.

  2. the original bellaluna says:

So I guess Reese’s “womb watch” is over. For the moment, at least.

LOVED her comments about making it without a reality show and/or a sex tape. I would have been much more pointed and much less kind. But that’s just me. Spare the snark, spoil the “starlet”. *gigglesnortguffaw*

  3. beth says:

“I got really nervous when they told me I was gonna get this award, because Sandra Bullock got it last year and she made out with Scarlett Johansson. And then they told me Chelsea was giving me the award and I was like ‘Who knows where her mouth has been?’”

This is gold. And to think, this came after Chelsea’s “It’s ok, we’re friends” speech.

  4. You don't say says:

Resse going after tacky reality TV people, (who deserve it), and talking about being a “good girl”, while being friends with Handler is a bit disingenuous if you ask me. Handler is working her perky, blonde girl friendships well…But she is still a bitch.

  5. mia girl says:

I thought Reese’s words were harsh but great. Some commenters on the Lively thread were admiring her guts and balls to show up after the leak of the photos, but I don’t think she had any shame about it. It’s a tactic.

This current generation of teens/young adults watching the show could probably due with hearing what Reese said, as many are losing the ability to understand that famewhoring is wrong. It is becoming an accepted/legitimate way of moving ahead.

Plus, can you imagine what it must be like for a bunch of these slightly aging actresses to see what some of these younger girls are doing to get ahead, and that it is working? It must drive them crazy.

  6. WickedSteppMom says:

Chelsea looks appropriate in that she looks like she’s wearing a trash bag.

  7. Lisa says:

Reese’s acceptance speech and obvious dig at all the reality whores such as the Kartrashians, Paris and actresses such as Vanessa Hudgens, Miley Cyrus and Blake Lively make me like her even more.

  8. TheGoodRain says:

I agree with Mia Girl — it must suck to be an actress trying to make it legitimately in Hollywood when there are all these girls passing out nude photos like they were Las Vegas calling cards.

The casting couch has always been around and actresses have always had to deal with that, but it sucks that just when we’re starting to get some powerful female Hollywood players we get girls that are trying to make sex for a part open and accepted.

I can’t watch or buy anything the Kardashians do, because after every word out of Kim’s mouth I think, “Oh yeah? You got peed on.”

  9. Boo says:

I love Reese. But I wish all the women in Hollywood would stop using the I Gotta Pee So Bad Pose in an effort to look as narrow as possible…it’s ridiculous.

  10. asd says:

Hey Celebitchy are you secret member of AA or something? In your opinion there is a lot of drunken celebs. They seem to be sober for me.

  11. Sakyiwaa says:

    i loved Reese’s acceptance speech!

  12. Melinda says:

I’m glad Reese is calling attention to these groty fame whores who are using sex tapes to get ahead in Hollywood. It’s so insane that no one seems to have any shame. I hope this is the beginning of a back-lash against the trend. I think this completely staged engagement and wedding might be the beginning of the end of the Kartrashians, at least I hope!

  13. lucy2 says:

Reese looks cute. I didn’t watch, but the transcript of her comments are funny, and I like what she said about reality shows.
So sick of Chelsea and her social climbing – if she’s making friends with costars or whatever, great, but quit shouting it from the rooftops all the time, it’s lame.

  14. Rhiley says:

Reese is such a great role model for her daughter. I know she is not perfect and didn’t get pregnant the first time under the best circumstances but she is really a great role model for all tweens. And Election isn’t only her best movie, it is one the best movies ever made. Tracy Flick for President!

  15. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

When Earl Camembert said that he and Floyd Robertson were friends it did not end well.

  16. garvels says:

Kudos to Reese for her comments directed towards the reality TV talentless famewhore bimbos who will do anything and everything to get their names in the tabloids and on product endorsements.

  17. Aly says:

I love her comments. Wish more actresses had the guts to call out the famewhores that now pass for role models.

I too wish this is the beginning of a hollywood backlash. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see movies where actress/actors could actually act?

  18. Bitchbelying says:

    Lame. Both.

  19. Julie says:

Nice speech Reese., now drop the famew—e that is CH!

  20. katiemarie says:

Love Reese and LOVE that she said that.

  21. PICOPINK says:

Reese looks great..but that pose is AWKWARD!

  22. Lindy says:

You know what? I love Reese. I don’t think she’s being bitchy with those comments–she’s absolutely right on! When you even try to compare someone with her talent, her intelligence, her work ethic, etc. to some talentless famewhorey chick like Blake Lively (who may also be ambitious like Reese but channels that ambition into wearing skimpy clothes and sleeping her way up), well, there really *isn’t* a comparison. Team Reese!

  23. Rachel() says:

I love Reese so much! I don’t think she seemed drunk. If so only very slightly.

  24. jocular says:

Elle UK Interview – Reese “We’re just too hard on each other. Women need to be more supportive of each other, stop tearing each other apart. There’s plenty of room for all of us. There’s plenty of men for all of us. There’s plenty of jobs. There’s plenty of room! I really believe it.”

  25. Kat says:

Love Reese, detest Handler. Wish they’d stop hanging out together. Handler strikes me as the antithesis of Witherspoon. RW is too classy for the special brand of mean spirited bitch comedy Handler is shilling.

  26. Amanda G says:

I like what Reese said about the sex tape/picture stuff.

  27. Lisa Turtle says:

I have nothing but respect for Reese. I think she is a real worker. She is as down-to-earth as any Type-A person is capable of being.

Chelsea grates on my last nerve. I feel like all her jokes revolve around a punchline where she can call Lindsay Lohan a crackhead and call Angelina a whore. There is nothing female-empowering about her name-calling schtick. I generally dislike when any girl calls another girl a “whore” or a “slut” – its not a clever insult. The fact that Chelsea does it on a nightly television show is the part that makes her so freaking annoying.

  28. ZenB says:

Is Reese REALLY friends with Handler? I question a lot of Handler’s so called friendships. She’s the female Jesse James… you can take the person out of th trailer but you can’t take the trailer out of the person…

I thought Reese was funny. I will never get the appeal of RPatz. Now I know how older women felt about Orlando Bloom. LOL! I just don’t like being on Team Older Women. *shudder*

  29. Madison says:

Reese looks really good nice dress and shoes she tried to be funny but I thought her comments were eye rolling lame, not funny at all.

  30. melikesit says:

Normally I like Reese but I didn’t care for all of her speech. I intensely dislike women who buy into, perpetuate and advocate the good girl/bad girl (aka: Madonna/wh*re) dichotomy. It does more harm to women than any sex tape or nude picture ever could.

And it was an odd tactic for her to take considering she’s been all rah, rah women need to stop tearing each other down, we need to band together and we need to support each other, we’re harsher on each other than any man and that’s why they think it’s okay to do it to us mantra she’s had for years.

She played into and exhibited the same attitude that she’s spoken out against for quite some time.

And I’d have liked her speech if while she was shaming these other women she’d also called out the power players in HW who respond to and in certain cases demand this behavior she dislikes so much. Because these sexual “bad” girls that she detests wouldn’t get anywhere if the people in power in HW didn’t respond to it or demand it. Start calling the people in power out for engaging in the practice to begin with and maybe something will change.

  31. Charlotte says:

I don’t think Handler looks good in that dress at all. I like Reese’s dress ok, but that’s about it.

  32. lisa says:

Wonder if she gave as speech to her friend Handler on her disrespect for other women

Funny how they can be so moral when it come to people outside their circle.
Just like Handler saying she won’t make fun of her “friends”.

Yeah.. Reese could be right, but um.. I don’t see these people making sex tape/and nude pics becoming A listers. They get followed by a certain group, then are dropped the minute someone else comes along that they find cooler.

the Jersey Shore/Kardashians are having their time just like Lindsey, Paris, Brittney, Jessica and all the others,
    now not so.

reality only last for a time then REALITY wakes you up.

  33. Leslie says:

Reese just voiced what many people say everyday. Handler has to be in her 40’s.

  34. Denisha says:

We all know where her mouths been….yucky!!

  35. katiemarie says:

I really liked Reese’s quote about supporting women and not putting other women down but I don’t see how her acceptance speech is necessarily hypocritical. Because shouldn’t we, as women, be supporting strong women who are working hard, who have talent, who are TRYING to make a name for themselves without degrading themselves? Why should we have to be supportive of women who sleep their way to the top, or knowingly take naked cell phone pictures when they KNOW that they are a public figure/celebrity, and therefore it’s just a matter of time until those photos come out?

As a woman, I’m certainly not PROUD of women that act in such a way and I reserve the right to say so, which is what Reese did. Intentionally making a sex tape for publicity – a la Kim K or Paris – is so disappointing, trashy and sad and it doesn’t hurt to remind young girls of that.

It’s one thing to condemn women making unnecessary bitchy comments, or mean behavior and cruelty to other women. It’s another thing entirely to tell girls – you can be successful and powerful by NOT resorting to trashy, degrading, and immoral tactics based off your sexuality.

    Okay, rant over. 🙂

  36. Hill says:

She will receive an award from MTV, which produces a lot of stupid reality show …. Why is she here? .. Hypocrite

  37. Sue says:

Reese seems to be hypocritical because last time I check Chelsea Handler was a fame whores who does anything to get her names in the tabloids, like posing nude with 50 cent than posting the pictures on twitter but let me guess that’s different right Reese.

  38. Connie says:

@katie marie: spot on! I was thinking the same thing reading the comments and I agree100%

  39. beth says:

chelsea can hope to hell that what she says is true, in the best meaning of the word, but she’s no where near reese’s league, and judging by reese’s comment on where her mouth has been, i think that slip gave her away what she really thought about chelsea. if anything, they’re ‘friends’ – chelsea decided it, and reese just has to play along with it. there are many types of ‘friends’.

  40. Mrs. Odie 2 says:

They’re all famewhores! It’s their job! What, the MTV Awards are some sort of gathering of moralists and scholars? None of them is in a place to look down on others unless she is too classy to BE there in the first place.

  41. Maddox says:

I’m not surprised by the sentiments as much as the fact that they actually came out of Reese Witherspoon’s pouty little mouth. This woman always looks like she just sucked on something really sour so, it’s no big leap to assume that she lives with a bitter taste in her throat. However, she usually doesn’t let it pass her lips. I like the diva look on her, she should own it. We all know that’s who she is anyway.

  42. Dea says:

What Reese said, I am saying on my website saynotokardashians for months now. But it was great to watch her saying it as it is quite powerful to be said on TV in front of millions and coming from a well-known celebrity. Great job Reese. I hope the media will listen though, as it might go on deaf ears. All they care nowadays is making money. And unfortunately sex sells.

  43. Sue says:

I forgot Chelsea Handler has a sex tape and Reese has no problem showing her face with her friend Chelsea .

My theory is one that Chelsea slept with their PR guy Stephen Huvane and got dirt on both Jen and Reese and is now blackmailing them because I just can‘t see why they would be friends with her unless their just as vile and nasty as she is on the inside and only plays the nice girls image for the public.

Second theory they love the ass kissing Chelsea does , her fighting their battles without getting their hands dirty and the free pass to do whatever they want and not have Handler talk about them on her show or stand up. So they’re willing to play nice and say a couple of nice things about her as well as a photo op or two every couple months to keep up appearances.

  44. cookie says:

Someone please explain why we should consider an actress whose career is mostly made up of churning out sexist, inane rom coms more valid than a successful reality star. Reece isn’t that special.

  45. jemshoes says:

Is Reese heading for some kind of professional pre-midlife crisis? Why else would she be OK being associated with Chelsea Handler, even if it’s just to promote the movie they’re in? Disappointing.

  46. Dauphine says:

I totally agree with everything you said, melikesit – v. eloquently put.

  47. Renee says:

@Boo: I’m never going to look at pics like that the same again, lol.

  48. bogie says:

She slammed Chelsea and all I see is a woman doing what she needs to to sell a movie. When the movie is over so will any association. With that joke you know Reese knows what she is all about. She still wants to work and no matter what business you are in you deal with people you do not care for, at least for them it is a few months versus most in the world a few decades.

After that speech I want to chill so hard with Witherspoon

  49. Laughternrain says:

I’ve always respected and admired Reese for how she handled her marriage split. She was so classy and dignified. So I’m disappointed she is even REMOTELY ASSOCIATING with Handler, let alone friends with her.

  50. Camille says:

    Chelsea Handler looks like shit.

Reese is adorable. The only thing I don’t like about her at the moment is that she is friends with that Harpy Fame Whore Handler. I hope that once their movie is done and dusted that they stop being ‘friends’ 🙁 .

  51. maria says:

I am actually shocked nobody has noticed her insensitive remarks over transgendered people over the last year and a half starting with the Trans man who birthed his wifes kid-CH is very under educated on Trans issues and that they are he highest amongst LGBT suicides. er jokes perpetuate the hate. She asked Chuy on a recent episode(the one with Sharon Obbourne) what she though of the trans man birthing his wives baby and amongst jokes he said ‘it is wrong” well who the hell are they to say but she also goes on displaying her utter stupidity on how it works that some transmen do not remove female organs immediately due to finances and choice. The other d bag on the show said he is ‘Woman’ for doing i and the horrible trans phobic jokes took up a large segment of her show. I ‘like’ her on FB and post all the info for her but I know she never reads it. My heart goes out to Chaz and the Beatie family-who is she to dictate what makes a family? She needs some advocate that can reach her to seriously educate her on transphobia and gender vs sex organs, how her jokes perpetuate sucide and hate crimes. A simple easy read is ‘The social Construct of Gender’and any book by Kate Borenstein or LEslie Feinberg. She also is always making LGBT stereotyped jokes that are nothingmore than hate speech and she did some crap for NCLR and says she is an advocate for the queer community? I don’t think so. Her tirade is not comedy but will support some hate mongers bashing of a Trans person..recall ‘boys don’t cry’ that is real and still happens even in our mecca of San Francisco. Even by other Queer people and the HRC(not supporting Trans people for job protection) She comes off like a hating dumb ass all the time and i have watche her show just to count how often she maked trans jokes and they are nearly 2 episodes or more a week. It takes courage to transition and to do so publicly is harder. I hope she stops it GLAAD came out on her about this but she has been doing it for ages. I wish she would have these glitches focused on E will never report on it she won’t comment on it so who can reach her?
