Jennifer Connelly & Paul Bettany welcome baby girl Agnes Lark

Aw, Jennifer Connelly had her baby! She and her ginger Godsend of a husband, Paul Bettany, welcomed baby girl Agnes Lark on May 31. Damn! They kept that quiet. Apparently, it was a home birth. Baby Agnes joins two big brothers – 7-year-old Stellan and 13-year-old Kai (who is Connelly’s son from a previous relationship). What are your thoughts on “Agnes Lark”? I like the “Lark” part. I think that’s adorable. As for “Agnes”… well, I hope it’s a family name. It sounds like a grandmother name.

It’s a hat trick for Jennifer Connelly: the Oscar-winning actress, 40, is now a mom of three! The Dilemma star and husband Paul Bettany welcomed a baby girl, Agnes Lark Bettany, at their home in New York City on May 31, her rep tells Us Weekly exclusively. Little Agnes was born via scheduled home water birth in a birthing pool, the rep explained.

“Everyone is healthy and doing well,” Connelly’s rep tells Us. “The family is very excited.”

Agnes joins big brothers Kai, 13 (his dad is Connelly’s photographer ex David Dugan) and 7-year-old Stellan, Connelly’s son with The Tourist star Bettany, 40.

Us first broke the news first back in December that the actress was expecting again.
In January, Connelly opened up on the Late Show with David Letterman about extreme nausea — and cravings! — during her third pregnancy.

“The first three months were very sketchy,” Connelly admitted. “You know how like you have your cell phone and you have to stand in one spot? It was like that with nausea. I had to stand in one spot, which happened to be in front of my refrigerator, which was open with me dipping pretzels in cream cheese and stuffing them in my mouth.”

After meeting on the set of 2001’s A Beautiful Mind, Connelly and British actor Bettany, 40, wed in a small, intimate ceremony in Scotland in 2003.

[From Us Weekly]

Congratulations to Paul and Jennifer! Both of her sons seem to have gotten her coloring, so it’s probably too much to hope that little Agnes is a strawberry-blonde/ginger, like her daddy. It would have been awesome, though. Can’t you just see Paul with a ginger baby girl? That thought just made my ovaries weep.

  4. brin says:

They are a beautiful couple…much happiness to them on the birth of their baby girl!

  5. isabelle says:

In that photo where she’s on her own she looks exactly like Yasmin Le Bon!

  6. nnn says:

    So happy for them !

  7. SiaMean says:

Congrats! What a beautiful family 🙂 Also, L O friggin L @ the dogs face in the last picture. Looks like hes thinking…”Really guys? You have to take a picture of me dropping a deuce?”

  8. Jen34 says:

I prefer the name Agnes to Peaches, Apple or some other ridiculous name. Actually, when the name Emily came back into fashion, it always reminded me of women my mom’s age or older. Now there are thousands of pony-tailed Emilys running around. Maybe Agnes will come back in style like the name Amelia has.

  9. Quest says:

    Congrats to them. Lovely couple

  10. Stephie says:

The last photo where the poor dog looks embarrassed is hilarious! (gross of the paps to snap that though)

  11. Bodhi says:

Congrats!! I had my son via water birth as well & it was a wonderful experience. I had him at a birthing center though, not at home. My midwives were amazing & I am so happy that I was able to have him the way we planned.

And I think it would be awesome if she has her daddy’s red hair! I bet she is so cute!

  12. Eve says:

I love the last photo too. His face is priceless — I look that grumpy in the morning as well.

    @ Stephie:

The dog looks indeed embarrassed (or maybe it was just focusing on the job, you know).

  13. MJ says:

I really like the name Agnes, but I know it’s kind of grandmothery.

They are such a gorgeous family. I am so envious of Jennifer’s complexion… wow.

  14. Schnauzers!!!! says:

They are both BEAUTIFUL! I’ll bet all 3 kids are gorgeous…*sigh*

Glad the birth went well and little Aggie is doing A-ok! 🙂

  15. snappyfish says:

Love this couple. Agnes is a very British name. Maybe a nod to that.

Congratulations to this lovely talented family

  16. LadyJane says:

Cute name but how do you pronounce it without sounding drunk?

  17. lucy2 says:

Don’t love the name, but congrats to them, and LOL at the embarrassed dog photo.
    Good Lord, Jennifer is beautiful.

  18. constance says:

    Congrats!

Lark is nice, but i personally like Wren as a name when songbirds are concerned.

  19. LadyJane says:

Also nice to know that some celebrities value natural birth, instead of opting for a c-section at 8 months and mommy ‘treating’ herself to a simultaneous tummy tuck.

  20. MarenGermany says:

    congrats.
Jennifer is one of few women that seem to get more beautiful with aging. Like a whine.
    and those Killer-eyes of hers….

  21. gee says:

The name is pretty! And that little girl will look just like her.. she has strong genes, her sons look just like her!

  22. esblondie says:

God, I just love these two.

  23. fabgrrl says:

I always wanted to name a daughter “Lark” but my husband didn’t like the name :^(

  24. Iggles says:

Not wild about the name Agnes, but congrats to them both! I love this couple! They seem grounded and in love!

Funny thing… My sister was friends with girls in high school with the names – Agnes, Audrey, Martha, and Mildred!

Old time names, for sure. I surprised she didn’t know an Ethel or Eunice!

  25. tiredofrumers says:

lark reminds me of lark “lisa turtle” voorhies. maybe they’re friends with her? lol! congrats on the baby girl to the bettanconnellys!

  26. Jazz says:

Poor dog can’t even poop in peace!

Congrats to them both, Paul is just delicious.

  27. j says:

Congrats to them, love the name, sounds like a great birth. I had a home waterbirth too and it was an awesome experience!

  28. danielle says:

She is just ungodly beautiful! Congrats to the new parents.

  29. bluhare says:

OK, I’m clueless but how to you “schedule” a home water birth? Don’t babies come out when they feel like it unless there’s a cesarean?

I wish I looked like Jennifer Connolly, but I’m amazed you all don’t get on her eye makeup like you do Princess Catherine (or whatever the hell it is we’re supposed to call her now)?

  30. Solveig says:

This is the most beautiful couple, Brangelina my skinny a**! 😀
    Congrats!
I like the name Agnes, not so much “Lark”, but well, it’s their kid.

“[…]I had to stand in one spot, which happened to be in front of my refrigerator, which was open with me dipping pretzels in cream cheese and stuffing them in my mouth.”

    LOL
I don’t think that I will ever get pregnant if not by accident, but I’m already this way.

PS: that dog is adorable in his uglyness, I love him.

  31. 4Real says:

    Loved her since Labyrinth…

BUT!! Since this IS a “BITCHY” site I’m gonna need pictures of the lil one to take her off my Blind Item list of potentials…

  32. tracking says:

    LadyJane, cosign!

bluhare, re: scheduling water births. You have the equipment on hand and your doula’s number on speed dial. That’s pretty much it.

That family is so beautiful it’s sick (in a good way of course).

  33. Nanea says:

    Congrats to the happy family!

I’m glad they went with actual names instead of picking something geographical or a fruit or what could be a future job description.

If little Agnes is ever stuck in a tight spot at school, she can always say: It was the nightingale, and not the lark.

  34. Gwen says:

    Aw, congrats 😀

  35. pinns says:

    Agnes: God. Awful. Name.

I have also seen it spelt backwards – “Senga” – as if forwards wasn’t bad enough! (If it’s that bad, just choose a different name FFS!!)

  36. the original bellaluna says:

AW! She had her baby on my baby’s birthday! How sweet! 😀

    Congrats to them!

  37. LadyJane says:

BTW they say ‘scheduled’ home birth because you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who, upon hearing you had a home birth, think it was only because you didn’t make it to the hospital on time.

  38. RocketMerry says:

Wow, that girl shall be gorgeous!

  39. Justaposter says:

I wonder if that was a family name?

Like someone else said above me, it beats the hell out of Apple and the like!

    Congrats on the baby girl!

Hey is anyone else old enough to remember her modeling on Seventeen? Or did I just out myself as an old fart? LOL

  40. Solveig says:

@Justaposter, I don’t remember her modeling, but I remember her in Once upon a time in America and in Dario Argento’s Phenomena. I was a very little girl when I saw those movies (yes, back in the days it wasn’t much of a problem to watch a horror movie as a kid, lol) and she has been stuck in my mind since then. I’ve always thought she was – is – exceptionally beautiful.

  41. Lisa Turtle says:

I like the dog’s guilty expression in the last photo. Caught releaving himself right on the street.

  42. Esmom says:

I remember her as a Seventeen model…she is even more beautiful now. And I’m outing myself as even older because I also remember Whitney Houston and Phoebe Cates as Seventeen models!

  43. Buffy Wilson says:

Sweet Jesus those two are gorgeous. That first photo doesn’t even look real!

  44. benny says:

She looked better before all her plastic surgeries. I never realy understood all the love for her — her acting “talent” consists of crying without ruining her makeup, like Demi Moore in Ghost. But, whatever. I’m sure the kid is very cute.

  45. Marianne says:

I don’t like the “Lark” part.

“She looked better before all her plastic surgeries.”
    ____

“All her plastic surgeries” consist of a nose job, well done, but not necessary, IMO. I don’t see any trace of other surgery improvement in her face.

“I never realy understood all the love for her — her acting “talent” consists of crying without ruining her makeup, like Demi Moore in Ghost.”
    ________

She’s always been out of the spotlight and she’s living a low key life. I like her as an actress although maybe she hasn’t that kind of charisma that makes some actors more impressive than others, but she’s far from being a one note actor.
Finally she’s educated but doesn’t shove this fact in our face everytime she’s interviewed, she’s fluent in Italian and in French, and she’s an ambassador for Amnesty International (which is far more reliable than the effing UN).
Those are the reasons why I like her.

  47. truetalk says:

    hey larky.lol

  48. jc126 says:

AGNES?? Are they serious??? HORRIBLE NAME.
Lark, however, I like. I don’t usually go for unusual first names, but Lark is cool.

  49. MJ says:

I think the reason she doesn’t get blasted for the lower lash eyeliner like Waity is that she has the thick, black lashes and colouring to match. On her, it doesn’t look so much like her eyes are about to jump off of her face.

  50. Homer says:

If you asked me if I liked the name Agnes when I was 12? Hell fucking no. But Now I love it, it would totally suit a child of theirs. In fact only a child of theirs could pull it off, and I just now realized that I would honestly 100% be a lesbian with Jennifer Connelly. D:

  51. Dingles says:

What a sexy couple. Jennifer is so stunning it hurts my eyes. She’ll be 70 years old and still gorgeous. Also, I love name Agnes Lark. Imagine Paul Bettany saying it out loud and you’ll understand.

  52. jc126 says:

I’m not fond of the name Stellan, either, to be candid. I know someone who named her son that, and it’s jarring to the ear. Sounds like a combo of Stella and Ellen, not particularly masculine to American ears.

  53. RHONYC says:

    CONGRATS TO THEM, YAAAAAY!!!

Xmas comes early this year to both the Bethenny’s & the Beckhams!

    so lovely!!! 🙂

  54. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Agnes may resemble her daddy. I’ve found that little boys often look more like their moms and little girls look more like their dads.

Agnes reminds me of the little old lady next door who used to invite us over for creme filled cookies and orange juice, when we were done playing kickball, because she was lonely.

  55. DD says:

    Love her! She’s so beautiful.

  56. dj says:

Congratulations to the family. OMG the only little girl in a family full of boys ought to be wonderfully spoiled. That first picture is gorgeous! He looks so proud of his beautiful wife.

  57. Louise says:

I laughed for five minutes at the expression on that poor dog’s face!

  58. Katherine M. says:

This is Jennifer’s 2nd water birth. She had Stellan (named after Paul’s good friend, the respected Swedish actor, Stellan Skarsgard) while she was with Paul on location in London.

Agnes sounds lovely yet serious enough to command respect when she’s older. They can give her a cute nickname in the meantime. There are several very respected foreign female directors named Agnes. One being Agnes Holland (Europa,Europa) who lives in Brooklyn – maybe they know her. Lark is too affected for me but maybe it means something special to them.

And, Kaiser, as much as I also find Paul very handsome it is the beauty that is Jennifer Connelly that needs to be passed down to their daughter. There are few women as beautiful as Connelly who have EVER graced the screen.

  59. Annie_Grey says:

Aggie will probably be beyond gorgeous.

  60. original kate says:

i love the name agnes. jennifer is gorgeous but her husband looks like an alien.

and LMAO at the dog photo.

  61. Charlotte says:

Connelly is breathtakingly beautiful. I was sad a couple years ago when she lost so much weight!!!! She’s too gorgeous to be so “light”. Glad that she looks healthier (due to pregnancy, no doubt). Good for them.

  62. Charlotte says:

LMAO! Just looked at the shot with the dog, as everyone was talking about it. Hilarious!

  63. Amirza says:

Paul Bettany is so hot in Priest

  64. Free Aion says:

you’re really a good webmaster. The web site loading pace is amazing. It seems that you’re doing any unique trick. Also, The contents are masterwork. you have performed a excellent process on this matter!

  65. Ronald H. Witt says:

Probably the most elegant actress of our times.
