Beyonce covers Dazed & Confused, W Mag: does she look tweaked?

For the month of July, Beyonce pulled out all of the stops and did two major editorials and covers, likely to promote her fourth album, which is now rumored to be in the midst of a Fall push-back. But no matter about the album – look at the pretty pictures. Or not so pretty, whatever your take. Beyonce appears on the cover of both Dazed & Confused AND W Magazine for July. For D&C, she’s got the blonde hair, but most of the better-quality scans I could find were of the W Magazine shoot (the ones with the longer weave, mostly pulled into a ponytail), so most of the pics here are from W. Here are some highlights from various interviews:

Beyonce on being an icon: “Being an icon is my dream. It has a lot of responsibilities. I feel like every time I take a picture and every time I perform on stage, I am conscious of my legacy. I’m conscious of the fact it’s going to be around even when I’m not… There are certain things that I just couldn’t do because I’ve worked so hard for my legacy and my career. Probably harder than anyone I know. So I respect it and I take it very seriously.”

On taking some time off from music: “I needed some time to live. I’ve been signed to the same label since I was 12 years old and never had more than a month and a half off since I was 13. I’ve worked so hard for so many years and just felt like, ‘Well, why not?’” she told Dazed & Confused about taking time away from the music industry.

More on her time off: “I had talked about taking a vacation before, but always ended up in the studio after two weeks, so no one believed me. This time, though, I was serious. I was going to give myself a year to do the things I never get to do. Simple things like play with my nephew, pick him up from school, visit museums, go to concerts, see some Broadway shows, learn to cook a meal and spend time with my husband … Yes, I needed some relaxation, but I wanted inspiration too, from regular everyday things.”

[From Various Sources]

By the way, I’ve just spent way too much time looking at these Beyonce photos, and I’m going to reiterate what I’ve been saying for a few months now: bitch got tweaked. Her face is different, and it’s a subtle difference, but it’s the result of something surgical, or perhaps fillers and injections. My guess is that she got very subtle rhinoplasty, some ’Tox in her forehead, and definitely something in her lips. She still looks like Beyonce, but it’s… different. It’s like Beyonce Kardashian in here. Here’s the W Magazine shoot:

These are weird and shopped to hell.

  2. RocketMerry says:

And her eyes! Let’s not forget the eyes. When she’s not wearing tons of eye shadow you can see she did something to them too. Pity.

  3. Shay says:

    spray on abs.
I’ve noticed that Beyonce uses spray on abs a lot.

  4. Nanea says:

Someone wants to look like Halle B.

  5. S says:

I can’t believe her people would approve those. 3 of those don’t even look like her! Did they get a stand in??

  6. cvb says:

She shares july cover of W with nude Xtina. Suprise.

  7. constance says:

I think she has had some minor “improvements.” At least she isn’t at Code Red Cat Lady stage.

The majority of the issue photos… OUCH! She looks like a man. Photoshop or what?!

I’m glad she really has left that gawdy cocktail/wedding/engagement ring behind. It’s as distracting as rappers with diamond crusted kid’s cartoon characters around their necks.

  8. rraven says:

I sometimes feel so sorry for her, like all that stuff about being iconic and a legend, it just sounds exhausting. Virtually every icon I can think of became so as a by product of living a sincere life not as part of some diabolical carefully contrived plot. Every one from Marilyn Monroe to Mahatma Gandhi, they were just living their lives doing something they loved or believed in, the icon stuff just happened.

  9. spinner says:

Looking at these terrible pics, I can’t help but get the feeling that Beyonce is on her way out.

  10. Ruby says:

I agree with Kaiser she has had some work done. Also Photoshop much? Sheesh! Like Kim K messing with natural beauty.
@ rraven I agree with the whole iconic status it’s something you are given it’s not something you can set out to get. It has to be bestowed upon you.

  11. BW says:

    Did someone steal her eyebrows?

  12. poodlemom says:

She definitely has bigger boobs…her nose looks different…and she looks like a white girl in the first photo. Maybe it IS Kim Kardashian!

  13. clare says:

I lost all respect for her when she started stealing songs from other songwriters and passed them off as her own. Look at Aisha’s blog.

And this word “icon” nowadays is meaningless and a joke, and just PR. I mean really, Katie Holmes -a fashion icon!

  14. Blue says:

I don’t know who that chick is but it’s not Beyonce. Most of those pics looking nothing like her.

  15. Blue says:

Icon you say, well they’re saying Amber Rose is an icon so……..

  16. SolitaryAngel says:

Well, they put her on the right magazine cover; “dazed & confused” is: 1. exactly how she looks in these photos, and 2. how I feel after looking at them!!! o_0

  17. Shay says:

If she is on the way out, I wonder why. Maybe it’s related to the way these female singers feel that they have to compete with the cheapness of Lady GaGa and won’t stoop to that level, and good on them.
Just today at the gym I saw, yet again, GaGa’s crap-desperate- slutty video for Born this Way and thought how most music has really devolved into cheap rubbish. It’s like Rihanna and Lady GaGa preside over the 11th circle of weird assed sluttiness.

Also, it’s pretty sad to see Beyonce, in some of her clips, resort to porno styled cheapness and this is what these images are. Bargain basement black Bettie Page, that doesn’t really work. She looks like she is trying so hard to be relevant and she doesn’t really have to stoop so low.

  18. Helen says:

Just fuckin’ horrible photoshop. Do these people who put out these magazine NOT have eyes?!

  19. WickedSteppMom says:

Oh, she looks tweaked all right, and not just in the plastic surgery kind of way…

  20. Deb says:

The pics with the bleached eyebrows are the worst. I hate that “no eyebrows” look.

  21. Thea says:

She did have something done and it is obvious. Also when she tried to sing live, did not even sound like her. Voice was deeper. Wonder how that will affect her singing career, because she does not sound the same at all.

  22. Zombie Nurse says:

I would not have known that was Beyonce if I hadn’t been told.

  23. tapioca says:

“It’s like Rihanna and Lady GaGa preside over the 11th circle of weird assed sluttiness.

Also, it’s pretty sad to see Beyonce, in some of her clips, resort to porno styled cheapness and this is what these images are.”

Then there’s Madonna desperately trying to hang on to her youth (in her underwear), Shakira pole dancing (in her underwear) because she can’t write a catchy melody anymore, Britney being medicated just to get her on stage (in her underwear), Whitney suffering from emphysema & Christina stumbling around with a bloodstream that’s 40% proof (thankfully not yet in her underwear).

Thank the Lord for Adele or I’d have lost all faith in female performers!

  24. murt says:

I dunno – it’s impossible to tell from these pics because she’s got so much make up on and because the pics have been photoshopped.

  25. ladybert62 says:

those pictures are ugly and not attractive.

  26. azurea says:

She just looks plain old ugly in these photos.

  27. Audrey says:

I love the Dazed and Confused cover, all else looks bad.

  28. Bill Hicks is God says:

I agree with other posters about competing with GaGa. You can practically see the desperation coming off these photos in waves. She’s done and should just run along and be Mrs. Jay-Z and call it a day.

  29. jocular says:

You cannot trust magazine photos to tell you if someone is ‘tweaked’ or not, the magazine does enough tweaking themselves, watch The September Issue!

  30. Hmmm says:

    Looks as dead-eyed as Brit-Brit to me…

  31. bored says:

I think the second batch of pictures looks strange because of the shaved (or made up to look invisible) eyebrows. I don’t think its tweaking..

  32. kazoo says:

@rraven, exactly! she’s always rubbed me the wrong way. i think it’s her try-hard and she just seems to do things (singing, “acting”) for accolades, not because she actually enjoys them or is even good at them.

  33. the original bellaluna says:

@ Tapioca – Hearts to you! Love your comment, and it’s sadly true.

Most of these shots don’t even look like her. I thought it was someone else when I clicked on the link, going “Who the heck is that?” If not for the psychedelically bad fashions and that ridiculous belly chain, I’d never have known it was her.

  34. 4Real says:

Well those were photoshopped from hell and back…she almost looks Badu-ish in a couple of these. She probably just got those smile ( ) lines filled in.

  35. Sue says:

Yikes! That’s all I have say or need to say

  36. misspdx says:

@ WickedSteppMom .. I was thinking the same!!

  37. Trillion says:

#24: Don’t despair. There are tons of amazing female performers, just not all on the level of fame of Adele. Dig deeper and ye shall find. I don’t know what kind of music you’re into but here’s a short list of amazing, uncompromising, talented divas: Allison Goldfrapp, Allison Mossheart (The Kills, Dead Weather), Joanna Newsom, Florence (Florence and the Machine- not my fave musically, but she’s admirable) Beth Ditto (Gossip) and there are many more. Dive down the diva rabbit hole!

  38. I Choose Me says:

    Co-sign everything rraven said.

  39. ViktoryGin says:

    @ rraven

    hear, hear!

My friend and I was were having a discussion recently about the trend of instant iconoclasm among this new generation of celebrities, most of them of them devoid of the talent or it-factor to even achieve it. For people of the past like Michael Jackson, it just came as a natural by-product. For this new crow of pathetic famewhores, however, it’s the end goal.

    And where are her eyebrows?

  40. Is this Beyonce? All dis pictures rub me d wrong way

  41. really says:

    she is soooooooooooooooooooooo ANNOYING.

Her icon jibber jabber is a JOKE. And please take that ridiculous blonde wig off, which she has not the facial fetaures to support! She is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fake, just like her nose job and lipo!

  42. Alex says:

Although it’s fairly hard to tell in some of these photos (it’s more obvious in her latest music video) the difference to me appears to be in her brow area. It looks like she got a slight brow lift or heavy Botox in the area. Bad idea.

  43. Justaposter says:

There is a blind running around stating that some ‘handlers’ are totally freaking out because someone singer got her nose done, and now does not sound the same.

I think Bey was the popular guess.

If she is on the way out.. can she please take her Mama and those tacky clothes she hawks.

  44. JaNa'e says:

i dont give dang about how many overly photo-shopped magazine covers she puts out, how many times she tries to put out another single because the previous one failed or how many interviews she gives saying the same ole thing my advice for beyonce is simple:

    2. and please gain about 15 pounds back, you look like skeletore

until these two things happen her career will continue to be on the fast track to being OVER.

  45. Elizabeth says:

ITA – bitch got tweaked. I haven’t liked her recent music (and don’t get me started on that crap-tastic video for “girls rule the world”). She’s got lots of talent but it hasn’t been on show lately. I agree her time may have come and gone and that’s sad because she’s got talent. But with RiRi being successful in Ronald McDonald wigs and almost-no-clothes, what Bey to do?

  46. mikeymike says:

All yall bitches on here are pathetic…. She is probably one of the only respectable artist out there and she is a beautiful person GTFOH!!!!!!

  47. RHONYC says:

she doesn’t have the correct teeth placement for that open-mouth sexy thing. she should stop, it makes her look slow. 🙁

  48. Amanda G says:

I’m sorry, but when did she take time off? LOL Anyway, I like Beyonce. She definitely had a nose job, but it looks good.

I think this album might be her “bionic” though.

  49. Mugs says:

    Is that Raja Gemini? LMAO

  50. Nick says:

In that second to last pic she looks like Vanessa from The Cosby Show.

  51. jover says:

Sign on with rraven, clare kazoo and others For God’s sake she makes pedestrian dance pop music; it ain’t earth shattering; what I most despise about her is she uses “music” just to finance her fake celebrity lifestyle; if she made that money waitressing she would do so; her head is so far up her rear, and all she has is flunkies surrounding her, that she’ll need to hang on to Jay-Z to find her way around. And someone please tell this tacky ho that no you’re music will be forgotten in 30 years; Icons played at places like WOodstock – a place and a vibe she wouldn’t even understand.

  52. Deven says:

#9 rraven You’re completely right about that. I’ve never heard any icon refer to her/himself as an icon. That’s a label which must be applied to you by critics and the public. You don’t refer to yourself in that way…it’s so gauche and not necessarily true.

  53. AngelMay says:

Not subtle at all! Her nose and mouth are completely different. Another natural beauty who had to jack up her face.

  54. lucy2 says:

I’ve always thought she was a beautiful woman, but she looks really odd here. She should not be without eyebrows! These are awful photos.
Totally agree about the icon self-talk, give it rest, Beyonce! She’s a pop singer – entertaining sure, but changing the world or the industry? No.
I also am always annoyed by entertainers talking about how they work harder than anyone else they know. All that means is they travel in privileged circles.

  55. Meanchick says:

If this is Beyonce’s natural look, then I’m the Flying Nun.

  56. Novaraen says:

All I can think of is PHOTOCHOP!!!!

Seriously these photos are so touched up, it’s ridiculous.

Oh and I never knew about the nose job until seeing those before and after pics. She definitely got her nose tweaked a bit to not look so African American. Trying to wash that black right outta her hair(and everywhere else), it seems.

  57. phaksi says:

Beyonce looking like “skeletor”? Even when she lost weight for dreamgirls she was nowhere near being skeletal

  58. Charlotte says:

I love the one with the ice cream cone (dazed and confused), but the others are awful. And Kaiser, this time I totally agree with you. She’s had something done. She looks quite different, actually. At least in those W shots.

  59. Jaana says:

her face is not jacked up at all..she had very light surgery..Its not Fergi you know.

  60. Hilary M says:

I do believe she’s using a body double for these photos… and that body belongs to RAJA, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race! Whom I would prefer to be in W Magazine instead…

  61. Nash says:

In what world is she an icon already? She’s a huge star as a matter of fact but an icon?! That is not how I’m seeing her.
