Linda Hamilton begs Betty White’s hopeful date to take her to the Marine Corps Ball

After Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake both officially accepted their Marine Corps dates, it was the start of a trend that will hopefully not go too much further. Still, I think we’ll all make an allowance for Sgt. Ray Lewis, just because he was so earnest and cute (not to mention creative) when asking Betty White to go to the Marine Corps Ball. Sadly, Betty had to decline Sgt. Lewis’ invitation to the ball, but CB predicted that he’d have no trouble securing a date in the aftermath, and she was absolutely correct. Actress Linda Hamilton has stepped up and made her own video, which plays off Lewis’ training theme and commences with a few clips from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, to ask Sgt. Lewis to take her to the ball in place of Betty:

“I’m no Betty White…” Don’t you just adore that? Well, I adore Linda Hamilton, and I hope that Sgt. Lewis feels the same way because she seems truly honored by the prospect of attending the ball. No word on whether he has accepted Linda’s counter-invitation, but how can anyone say no to Sarah Connor?

If you missed it, here’s Ray’s original video:

Oh, and it turns out that there has already been yet another Marine who has asked a celebrity to the ball. In this case, we only know him as “PFC Hart,” but he’s invited Miley Cyrus to go be his date. Something tells me that (whether or not Miley accepts) this poor guy will be disappointed, and Miley probably won’t deal with the situation with even half of the diplomacy (or truthfulness) as Betty White did.

Linda oozes cool! Love her more for this..

  2. silken_floss says:

Love you Linda, but gurl those boots :/

  3. lin234 says:

I didn’t know Linda was so funny! The video could have turned out awkward but she pulls it off flawlessly. How awesome of her! She needs to act in a comedy. She’s got great timing.

  4. Tierra says:

I missed Betty’s response to this, did she turn him down via video?

I doubt Miley would even have enough class or consideration to acknowledge this. PFC Hart may be a great Marine but he has bad taste in celebs.

  5. DenG says:

I read that Ray Lewis said he’s been approached by “bigger celebrities” than Linda Hamilton. Insensitive AND Fame-hungry. This is getting tiresome.

  6. Jackson says:

Linda is crazy. Straight-up crazy. I hope she is back on her meds but IDK. I’d like to get behind this but I just can’t. I hope this little trend of YouTube date requests ends here.

  7. Smc says:

My husband worked with Lewis. he’s a grade a jerk. Linda and betty deserve better dates to the ball.

  8. Quest says:

I love the Marine. There is an opportunistic trend happening here…granted the first invite to be genuine and maybe the second but it is starting to reek of getting 60mins of fame.

  9. DD says:

Awww that’s awesome! Hopefully HE says yes!

  10. Lady D says:

I think she had the best body I have ever seen on a woman in my life during that Terminator movie. That was a body to aspire to. Now I’m going to go do aerobics.

  11. Maritza says:

Foolish nonsense to think the celebrities feel obligated to attend, please…just say no! I think Linda thinks this will help her career.

  12. Lady D says:

Quest, 60 minutes of fame? Inflation has struck again.

  13. arock says:

she looks like a really old super hero in the first pic.

  14. Rhiley says:

Linda Hamilton is a loon, desperate for attention. I guess with James Cameron having a fairly quite year, Hamilton has to try to grab headlines wherever she can. I am surprised she didn’t go on some talking spree with Ahhhnold’s impending divorce.

  15. britt says:

why would anyone ask miley cyrus anywhere

  16. MJ says:

Linda Hamilton looks amazing! She’s 55 years old and looks way better than “36” year-old Chelsea Handler. I actually really like her boots, and while I’d never wear anything she has on in the above pictures, she looks like she has her own style going on. She kicks ass.

  17. Zoe says:

I lived in LA for years and met just about every celeb out there. I must say, Linda Hamilton was among my favorites. SWEETEST lady ever, seriously. My experience with her was amazing. All these people saying she’s a “loon” – last time I checked, having a mental illness doesn’t make you crazy. She has battled bipolar disorder, something she was brave enough to talk about publicly and that sort of ridicule and stigmatization (not to mention stereotype) is the reason she and other celebs should continue to speak out, to break down those types of comments. I found her to be a lovely person and bless anyone who tries to overcome their personal difficulties, nonetheless join a serviceman at a ball. Some people will find anything to be negative about.

  18. Swan Hakka says:

Very cute….the first time, now the “Marine asks celebrity to the big dance” meme is played out…big time. What started out as a fun little idea is now just another attention-grabbing fad.

  19. Blue says:

I hope this stops soon. It’s really annoying now.

  20. girl says:

I don’t know. I think it is kinda cool. My husband was deployed twice (so far, going again soon) and the biggest celebrity he saw was Charlie Daniels. All due respect to a performer who would willing go to a war zone to entertain troups but we aren’t big country fans. I guess the day of USO tours by names like Marilynn Monroe and the like are gone. Returning vets now don’t have it as bad as Vietnam vets had it when they came back though. What happened to those servicemembers was absolutely horrid.

  21. bluhare says:

I’m with the trend needs to stop people. Cute the first time, not so cute any more. Maybe I’ve just got sour grapes since everyone I’ve asked to camera me for my “take me to the movies, George Clooney” video just laughs their asses off.

  22. MJ says:

Well said, Zoe. I have friends and family members who suffer from Bipolar Disorder and they are not “crazy.” It’s a terrible disease that takes considerable personal strength to manage (probably more than I have!) and it makes many people miserable, even suicidal. I have a lot of respect for celebrities who are open about their mental illness, considering how harshly they are judged by the general public.

  23. The Bobster says:

All he needs to do is see a recent episode of “Chuck” to turn her down.

  24. original kate says:

“I hope this stops soon. It’s really annoying now.”

    this.

  25. antisara says:

SHE’S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! I hand’t seen her since Terminator…there was some movie in Lifetiome where she tracks a lost kid in a desert or something like taht. She has been uder the radar for a while…

  26. Rita says:

Gosh, this is just terrific! Love the part where she says, “I know you like your dates vintage”, great!

  27. REALIST says:

I predicted a rash of invites after Mila’s.
It was nice of Linda to take up where Betty left off. I bet Linda has a bit more “shake your booty” factor than Betty.
Betty bowing out-she has legit reasons-she’s ancient.
I hope other invitees demonstrate an equal amount of class in accepting their invitations; or in Linda’s case, an equal amount of class in picking up the ball from decliners…

  28. REALIST says:

BTW-Very classy video from Sgt Lewis. He will get a date for sure-I hope it’s Linda, because she gave her reply an equal amount of effort and sincerity.
Re: Miley-there are lots of reasons she should stay away from the ball. There’s the teenybopper fame factor, which could spoil the event for everyone else. There is also the underage drinking and/or jailbait potential. She’s basically just trouble in this situation. Since I am a lawyer (also), this is a “risk evaluation”.
She should talk to her PR manager, come up with a very gracious reply declining the invitation, and then make sure she has an equally attractive (but over 18; 21 if there is actually alcohol) understudy waiting in the wings.
An even better “fun for all” option would be to offer to make an appearance and sing a few songs. Then she’s doing her part without creating problems. I am sure her potential date would (or should) understand.
I hope Miley reads CB for my thoughtful and prudent advice:)

  29. Shaz says:

oh, she is just way adorable and funny! why isn’t she in more movies, dumb stupid hollywood!
