Viola Davis & her husband are adopting a baby “domestically”

I mentioned this yesterday, but it’s worth repeating. I LOVE VIOLA DAVIS. She’s so awesome. She used to be just a scene-stealing character actress, but over the past decade, she’s gotten more high-profile work, and she even scored a Tony Award and an Oscar nomination for Doubt (she was in the Broadway play, as well as the film). She’s in The Help, and her performance is being praised as the best part of a mediocre-to-okay film. These photos are from the premiere of The Help, and Viola brought her actor husband, Julius Tennon, as her date. They’ve been married for nine years.

Quick question: how old do you think Viola is? And while you’re thinking about that, guess how old Julius is. Viola is 46 years old (today is her birthday – happy birthday, Viola!). I can’t even find how old Julius is – but Viola told E! News that he has two “children” from a previous relationship though – a 35 and a 33-year-old. Oh, and he has SIX grandchildren. So that makes him…? At least 55, right?

Anyway, on the red carpet for The Help, Viola announced to E! News that she and Julius were in the process of adopting a baby! This will Viola’s first child, but as I said, she’s been a step-mom and step-grandmother to Julius’s kids and grandkids, and I think it’s really cool. Oh, and Viola is adopting “domestically”.

Congratulations to Viola and Julius. They seem like a solid, lovely couple and I’m sure they’ll be able to provide a wonderful home for a baby.

I still really want Viola to rethink this wig though.

Oh, I love her too. Honestly, she should have won the Academy Award for her role in Doubt (Streep as Best Actress in a Leading Role for Doubt as well).

  3. I like her too! Although, I never knew about her before the movie “Doubt.” But I see she has been working for a while, good for her!

Good for her. I understand all children need and deserve good home but Americans need to adopt more domestically.

Befre this turns into a condemnation of foreign adoption as I suspect you’re really trying to go there, be aware of the different requirements for adoption.

Viola and her husband have many factors that could make domestic adoption preferable for them. Her husband’s age may make him too old for foreign adoption in a number of countries. That they have been married for 9 years is another factor. There may well be other factors that are individual to them as a couple and as individuals that we wouldn’t be privy to that could be factors in deciding how to adopt. Since they are adopting an infant it may very well be that they have contracted for a private adoption and are supporting the mother through pregnancy – which seems likely since she seems to already know that they are adopting an infant and when it will be.

So careful with your kneejerk judgments about this.

Congrats to her and her husband.

Great story, but can you rethink the link with the video that automatically starts? ? Its too loud especially if you’re trying to be discreet.

  17. SEF says:

If you love Viola, go back and watch the really great movie Kate and Leopold (starring Meg Ryan and then-newcomer and super hottie Hugh Jackman). She had just one quick scene in the movie but it was FABULOUS.

  18. Eve says:

    @ SEF:

I remember that! She calls Hugh Jackman’s character “fancy pants” while issuing a fine because he refused to pick up the dog’s poop.

Please tell me there are professional hairstylist who are on the phone to Viola’s people to do her hair. She’s a strong talented actress who needs a good team around her.

Get on this celebrity hairstylist! What are you waiting for?
