Tina Fey gave birth to a second daughter, named her Penelope Athena

Tina Fey gave birth to a character from Greek mythology! Yay! Last Wednesday, Tina Fey gave birth to her second daughter, who she named Penelope Athena. Yes, Tina Fey is totally Greek (she’s actually only half-Greek, I believe). Thoughts on the name? I don’t hate it – but I’ve always liked the name Penelope. Athena is kind of meh, but I doubt anyone will call the little girl Athena. She’s not an Onassis, after all. Penelope joins her five-year-old big sister Alice, who is amazing. Tina is 41 years old – and her husband, Jeff Richmond, is 50.

Tina Fey, already mom to 5-year-old Alice, has introduced a new addition to the family.

The 30 Rock star welcomed a healthy baby girl, Penelope Athena Richmond, on Wednesday with her composer husband Jeffrey Richmond, 50, her rep tells PEOPLE.

The multiple Emmy-winner joked with Ellen DeGeneres during her pregnancy that she and her husband wanted to wait to discover the baby’s gender. “I’m just going to see what it chooses to wear to prom,” Fey said at the time.

The comedian also called her second pregnancy “easy.”

The Bossypants author, 41, first revealed her pregnancy to Oprah Winfrey in April.

She spoke about agonizing over having a second kid – but explained how she and her husband decided it was time to expand their family.

Said Fey at the time: “My husband and I really decided that we felt rather than risk having 30 Rock end in several years and feeling like part of our family is missing that we were going to prioritize our family.”

[From People]

Congratulations to the happy family! Not only was this pregnancy “easy” for Tina, it was one of those rare celebrity pregnancies that didn’t feel like it went on for a year and a half (side-eye at January Jones). Plus, Tina looked super-cute while pregnant too.

I’m secretly thrilled that Tina had another girl, by the way. The world needs more hairy, smart, sassy Greek girls.

OOh, an excuse or two to have Greek themed Birthday parties with little girls having archery contests and winged footed races.

  2. Rita says:

I see the spammer went bye-bye. Keep that Spamdar up Kaiser.

As for the name, I like Penena, then she wouldn’t need a middle name.

Morning to @brin, bellaluna and you other gals. Beautiful day here.

  3. the original bellaluna says:

    Aww, I think it’s cute!

Mornin’ Rita, brin, all! Yeah, but Rita you know people would be misspelling it all over the place and calling the little one Panera. 😉

It is beautiful today, but early yet. I’m sure it’ll be hot & sticky by 9 a.m.

  4. The Truth Fairy says:

    Congrats to them.

I’m pretty sure PA is another good-looking gal in the making, just like Alice.

  10. Lucy says:

Its funny that when a celebrity names their child a “normal” name, that it almost seems like a wierd name for Hollywood…Alice and Penelope, mmmm, how odd, thought it would be something like skyrider and rainforest….know what I mean?

  11. Seal Team 6 says:

    hahaha Lucy!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean! “Sandra Bullock named her baby Louis? Oh…. that’s an odd name for a celebrity to choose…”

  12. Robert says:

Tina Fey is a Greek Goddess.with BRAINS

  13. Alix says:

I actually like the name Penelope more than Alice (though she’s got a kickaaa middle name: Zenobia!). Nice to see (1) normal names, and (2) names that honor Mom’s ethnic background for a change. It always seems to be about the dad’s.

  14. mln76 says:

Is Penelope really a ‘normal’ name???
I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with that name LOL I think it’s a bit old fashioned. But who cares I am so happy for Tina she’s awesome!!!

  15. Happymom says:

I love her and I love her girls’ names-I’m in the traditional boat. And now for my shallow, snarky aside: wow-I didn’t know her husband was so-um-short.

  16. ZoiGR says:

@mln penelope is not normal name?hmmm
an ancient Greek name and there long before USA was discovered !!
I am happy that Tina holds customs and traditions of greece :)))
btw she have greek name also Stamatina!

  17. mln76 says:

@ZoiGR I like the name Penelope just saying it’s not by any means a common name. I am curious if anyone commenting on this board knows someone with that name. It’s not Jennifer or Lynn or Susie.

  18. Blue says:

I like the name and congratulations to them.
No comment on her husband. They love each other and that’s all that matters

  19. Courtney says:

you people are idiots there’s always been normal/strange names in hollywood and paying homage to ones ethnic backround isn’t new for example Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon’s daughter is named monroe partially to honor Mariah’s roots in ireland as it means either from the hill or from the mouth of the River Roe in County Derry. by the way her older daughter Alice’s first name isn’t Greek it’s English. @MLN Penelope goes back a fair ways in the entertainment industry as does a name like Lynn Or Joanne Or Patricia as for example in Lynn Redgrave Joanne Woodward & Patricia Neal although Ms Neal’s birth name was Patsy and changed to Patricia by her agent after she won a Tony Award in 1947

  20. Robbie's Girl says:

    My middle name is Athena!

  21. Aries_Mira says:

My daughter’s name is Artemis. Not common at all over here in North America (neither are our names for that matter), but we wanted something unique and beautiful. Plus, both hubby and I love learning about ancient pantheons.

  22. NancyMan says:

    Ditto Blue…

Wow, her husband must be really sweet and supportive.

  23. BW says:

My best friend when I was little was named Penelope. We all called her Penny. We were English and Jewish, so I’m not sure why her parents went with a Greek name, other than that they liked it.

  24. gee says:

@BW – Penelope Cruz doesn’t get flack from her name and I do not think she is of Greek lineage. It’s just a cute name.

  25. Mika says:

@Blue – I totally agree about her husband.

Also, Kaiser, I agree about the girl thing. I feel better about the future knowing that it will include two women raised by Tina Fey.

  26. What kind of shoes are those she’s wearing!??

  27. tracking says:

Yes, can’t wait to see what Tina’s daughters become! A friend named her daughter Penelope earlier this year. I think it’s a sweet name, based on a character who was highly intelligent (outwitting a slew of powerful men) and faithful. One mildly snarky comment though–somehow Tina managed to avoid being pap’d in her last trimester. Good for her, but all pregnant women look adorable in second trimester pics!

  28. aenflex says:

She is beautiful and smart and I’m betting she’s a great mom. This rocks! My mom almost named me Athena, butI am glad she didn’t, hate to say it.

  29. Buffy Wilson says:

In grad school I had a pair of cats named Penelope and Athena.

  30. WOM says:

Love the name. Tina Fey is ten types of awesome.

  31. Ruffian9 says:

“I feel better about the future knowing that it will include two women raised by Tina Fey.”

    Yup.

    Alice and Penelope…very cute.
I’m sure her hubby is awesome. He’s good enough for Tina!

  32. frankly says:

Baby name posts = Courtney. That’s all you can ask for in this world.

  33. blouson says:

I knew two Penelopes. One we called Penny. The other I didn’t like so when we (sister and I) talked about her we always referred to her as cantelope.

  34. blouson says:

    I mean cantalope.

  35. Lisa Bessolo says:

Hi Tina Fey! I just finished your book and it ruled! Your wonderful sense of humor made me laugh so hard. I’m jealous of your friendship with Amy Poehler. She sounds cool. And Lorne Michaels, what a great mentor, and now I know the stepping stones of your smarty pants rise to becoming bossy pants, or the coolest, funniest (little geeky but in a cool way) woman in the green room or the writers huddle!! Huzzah to you missy. And your sweet girls and hubby are very lucky. //Re: breastfeeding, take Fenugreek capsules to increase milk production. Seriously. It worked for me. Some people think it works because milk ducts in breasts are stimulated like sweat glands by these seeds. rock on…
