Brad & Angelina rent an entire “private” train for their entourage (and a film crew)

Don’t believe the reports claiming that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie rented out an entire train so that they could safely travel to Scotland, where Brad will continue filming World War Z. I mean, a train was rented, but it wasn’t just Brad, Angie, the kids and the entourage on the private train. It was the whole crew of World War Z! So, about 250-350 people in total, it seems. These are photos of their arrival in Glasgow (which is standing in for Philadelphia, oddly enough). The journey from London to Glasgow is 350 miles, and takes five hours by train. Five hours with Brad, Angelina, the kids, the entourage and more than 200 crew members. That must have been a special experience.

Brad Pitt has described his family as being like “a military mobile unit” when they’re on the road.

Tuesday they proved it by boarding a privately hired train to take them and the World War Z crew from London to Glasgow, where Pitt, 47, is filming next.

“Three cars suddenly drove onto the platform from the street, pulled up alongside the train and then they all got out,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “Brad was in one car with some of the kids and Angelina was in another with the others. They were all smiling and looked really happy, but then I suppose it’s not every day that a kid gets to have their own train to play with!”

Adds the onlooker: “They had a huge entourage of about 20-30 people with them.”

The Virgin charter is a bespoke service regular used by English soccer clubs that allows clients to personalize the catering and station facilities. As with most English trains this one includes a shop, toilets and a counter serving hot food and drinks. But there is one thing missing: sleeping compartments.

“The price also depends on how far they are going, and the number of carriages they want, as some people want eight carriages and others nine – it all depends on the client,” a Virgin spokesperson says.

The sleek, silver-and-red Virgin train that had been specifically chartered for the Jolie-Pitts and estimated 350 associates and crew pulled into Glasgow Central Station at 2:30 p.m. And there were about 100 fans gathered to try to catch a glimpse of the famous family.

Welcome to Scotland
With the Scottish highlands now on their doorstep, Jolie, 36, can finally take a break from the hectic bout of sightseeing that has seen her and 10-year-old Maddox, Pax, 7, Zahara, 6½, Shiloh, 5, Knox and Vivienne, 3, visit a host of London toy stores and theaters in Surrey, where the family have been based during Brad’s filming.

For the next few weeks, the World War Z team will take over the main square of Glasgow (just a few blocks from the train station), which has been converted to look like the American city of Philadelphia to a convincing degree.

Apparently, it costs $40,000 or more to “rent” a “private” train for this kind of journey. So… is that more or less expensive than flying everybody? Less expensive, right? It’s probably a nicer journey by train, though. I prefer trains to planes, any day of the week.

So what kind of trouble will Brangelina and the kids get into in Scotland? I’m sure Angelina will hunt out some kind of kid-oriented activity, some museum or theme park or something. I hope she eats something while she’s there too. Not haggis.

UPDATE: The Jolie-Pitts take the cover of People Mag this week:

jp1

They’ve munched on crickets in Cambodia and surfed the waves in Cancun, but for the six children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, life in the boisterous family is as much about everyday bonding as it is the big adventure.

“The children are always playing, jumping on each other and sharing fun moments,” a source tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “They share a special bond.”

Leading the pack: oldest son Maddox, 10, who “is almost like a teenager now, the way he understands things,” says another source. “He’s grown up very quickly.”

But his younger siblings are rapidly growing up, too. Six-year-old Zahara and her 5-year-old sister Shiloh are especially close, while 7-year-old Pax “has become more independent in the past year,” says an insider. And with twins Knox and Vivienne now 3 – they help pack their own suitcases! – the family is settling into a lower-key, if still decidedly adventurous, rhythm.

“Now that all the children are older, things have calmed down a bit in the household,” says the source. “There’s a great family dynamic right now.”

I don’t get why this is a cover story…? Conspiracy theory?

  1. Angelina says:

I was walking past the set yesterday and they it was certainly weird seeing yellow Philadelphia cabs on Queen Street in Glasgow lol

Might get to see Brad yet haha

  2. merski says:

Why not haggis? It’s so delicious!! Haggis & Whisky Pie is the best. Yum! 🙂

  3. Philadelphia blew it says:

they wanted to film in PA, but the state was holding up millions & millions of tax credits, permits, etc. for this film and several other projects. Why? New governor trying to make old governor look bad. WWZ said they can’t wait around and made plans for Glasgow. Oh, just like debt ceiling nonsense, they ended up approving the credits just like the old governor planned to- political posturing is bad all over.

  4. Jen D says:

Haggis isn’t that bad! No worse than sausage, if you like that kind of thing. It just has a bad rap because everyone always describes how it’s produced.

  5. Angelina says:

I am Scottish and I can confirm that Haggis is truly the most horrible food ever that and Irn Bru yuck

  6. Addie says:

Bravo to Angie & Brad for navagating their 6 AND themselves through such a busy looking station.
With security and nannies, that still does not look easy.

Good for them for joining the crew on the train and enjoying the scenery!
My 22 year old friend passed away unexpectadly on Monday, this made me think, life is too short not to stop and take a look at what beauty life has to offer.

Angie lives a bold, happy life – Fact.
She will know she had a full life on her deathbed.

    Sorry to get off topic.

  7. shay kay says:

    @Addie
I am so sorry about your friend.I think it’s healthy that you are noticing the beauty in the world now as opposed to taking things for granted. We all do this and sometimes we get a very loud wake up call. Two friends of mine from high school passed away and I immediately started appreciating the small, mundane things in my life.
I wish you all the best in your time of grief.

  8. Addie says:

Many thanks for the kinds words.

Upside to death is that people can self reflect their own lives.

About the people cover: Very random story with nothing new that most didn’t know already.
    Cute recap though.

  9. dfsdg says:

That People cover is not related to a conspiracy theory, just like a similar cover in March or April was not (although you seemed to think it was).
There are new pics of them, no other big celeb story this week and the fact Brad & Angelina still sell = this cover.
Some people over think a simple cover.

  10. Bite me says:

About the people cover…the sales of all tabloid are down including people… Maybe just like the sandy b cover last week people is going back to stars that sell… Idk

  11. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Ladies, ladies, ladies all this Haggis talk is making me hungry and queasy at the same time. LOL Man I would love to go to different places and have weird food. Not sure if I could keep any of it down but I still wanna try it.

Anywho, I am guessing they made the cover of People because its been a bit of a slow Celeb news week. Certainly adorable though. I would like to grow up Jolie-Pitt, my childhood sucked something fierce.

  12. WTF says:

i can’t wait for the “oh they weren’t even in the same train car” comments to start 🙂

  13. Mayday says:

oh my look at how TALL shiloh has gotten!

  14. mln76 says:

Well the people that believe the reports that they rented out the train all by them selves can kiss it.
Oh and WTF People is saying they arrived to the station in 2 separate cars not that they rode in separate cars.

Anyway sounds like a fun way to travel I have always wanted to go cross country or travel around Europe by train.

  15. N.D. says:

Didn’t know it’s possible to rent the train 🙂 TBH I don’t think it is in my country no matter the money. Even Kim Chen Ir had to bring his own 🙂

Funny how with constant attacks on them in tabs any normal bland article about them (something other celebs enjoy regularly) makes people all worked up about conspiracy. That only shows how crazy this vicious hunt has gotten over the years. It screwed everyones perspective completely.

I’m real curious what would it take for haterade to finally stop. Them retiring? Jen getting married? Time passing by didn’t seem to have any effect at all.

  16. mln76 says:

@N.D. I think the anger INCREASED because they didn’t break-up and their kids are normal and happy. People want them to be punished or have their ‘karma’ bite them in the ass. The fact that all these years later their family is thriving and they are as united as ever irritates the hell out of the tab media and the people who believe the tabs verbatim.

  17. sandy#1 says:

that sounds like fun, those children are very blessed to have their parents, who knew brad would get his dream family? what a great life they have.

  18. hope says:

I think their previous cover few months ago must have sold pretty well and that’s why they are on the cover again. It’s not like their are insane rumors about their family out there that they need to counter.

  19. Said it once,I’ll say it twice *TEAM FAMILY!!*

  20. cmc says:

Where’d they find a photo of the Empress smiling?

  21. Cheyenne says:

Angelina: I am Scottish and I can confirm that Haggis is truly the most horrible food ever that and Irn Bru yuck
    ===========================================

Is it as bad as Marmite? A Brit friend of mine swears by Marmite. I tried it once and it looked and smelled exactly like axle grease. Bleah.

  22. Bermuda Blues says:

Conspiracy Theory: Angelina really wants that movie “In the Land of Blood & Honey” to recieve some positive press. Brad wants an Oscar, or at least a nomination for Tree of Life.

  23. Sakyiwaa says:

Hmm! Here’s one; They’re actually One Big Happy Family… Gasp!

  24. Freya says:

    “Team Family” sounds good!

  25. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

Bermuda Blues, that’s a NO GO. Her movie ITLOBAH and TOL are already and have always been getting positive buzz. Oscar short list and all. Google them. I think she LAID IT DOWN and folks are hyped. Not enough great words can be said for TOL, heck even Moneyball is getting great buzz.

This is not any kind of exclusive interview with THEM it appears. Seems like People just wanted to cover them. How exactly is that THEIR problem or fault?

Look at those kids. They SCREAM magazine covers. United Nations and all, cuteness overload. Are you kidding? No magazine would miss the opportunity to cover those kids, not to mention their parents. Admit it, that family IS special in more ways than one. The fact that they are still strong is mind blowing. NO ONE COULD HAVE GUESSED IT, but they are going for it. Enjoy it.

  26. louiset says:

Bermuda Blues: “Conspiracy Theory: Angelina really wants that movie “In the Land of Blood & Honey” to recieve some positive press. Brad wants an Oscar, or at least a nomination for Tree of Life.”

It’s comments like these that baffle the hell out of me. How is it logical to think that an article or photos will make a critic give good reviews. Oscar ballots aren’t going to be mailed out for months. I doubt anybody will remember this cover a week from now nevermind several months later. People Mag has a lot of why? covers. It’s funny that just because it’s Brad and Angelina that means something is going on.

  27. Cheyenne says:

@louiset: Logic is in short supply among Angiephobes. The ones who crack me up are the revisionists who whine about how Brad and Jen would have made a much better family together if only mean ole Angie hadn’t stolen him away from her. I’m like, bitches, please. She never wanted anything to do with the family he already had, let alone create a new one with him. She wouldn’t go with him to his parents’ 40th anniversary party. Major diss. I don’t know what the hell she wanted out of the marriage, because she sure didn’t put anything into it. I think she just wanted the prestige of being Mrs. Brad Pitt.

  28. Franny says:

Shiloh is going to be so gorgeous when she grows up.

  29. Camille says:

@Cheyenne: Aww come on now about Marmite lol.
It *is* an acquired taste though and it is usually something you start off having as a kid and you get used to it (although yeah people do either love it or hate it- the same with Vegemite which is a similar product).
I live in New Zealand and it is considered something of an NZ icon/staple here 🙂 .
It is yummy on hot buttered toast 😀 😉 .

  30. Cheyenne says:

@Camille: ARGGHHHH!!! I took one spoonful of that horrible stuff and thought I was dying. Never again.

  31. Camille says:

    lol@Cheyenne 🙂 😉

I don’t think I would ever eat it from a spoon LOL.
It is meant to go onto toast or have it with cheese on a grilled sandwich for example 😉 . No wonder you thought it was revolting lol.

  32. bugsy says:

People Mag is so up their ass.

  33. Lisa says:

    Shiloh to be so biger

  34. The advantages of renting to buy a house. There are advantages for both the titled owner and the lessor. If the buyer does not have the bank or credit to get a mortgage but is still wanting to be a property owner then a rent to purchase deal is a great option.
