Carrie Fisher lost 50 pounds, got a plastic surgery makeover, is unrecognizable

Wacky Carrie Fisher looks totally different now that she’s lost 50 pounds in nine months and undoubtedly gotten some very good work done. This lady is 54 years old and while I wouldn’t put her at 10 years younger looking or anything she looks incredible. I’ve noticed that it’s harder to lose weight the older I get (I’m not 40 yet, but barely) and my mom tells me as much too. So Carrie deserves a lot of credit for losing all that weight. She also got a very good surgeon to freshen her up, although she had that facelift before she lost the weight. It’s easy to notice that she’s had a lot of work done when she talks and only her jaw moves, but in still photos she doesn’t look all plumped up and waxy. (Except for her lips, but they’ll hopefully settle.)

Carrie is a spokesperson for Jenny Craig, and she explained that she was able to stick to the diet with the help of her consultant, whom she compared to an AA sponsor:

She’s lost 50 lbs. in the past nine months – and is ready for her bikini, or, in her case, her Princess Leia metal two-piece.

The self-effacing author-actress and Jenny Craig spokesperson, 54, coyly unveiled her latest self on Wednesday’s Today” show, accepting a hug from host Ann Curry, who proclaimed Fisher “beeeeeeeeauuuuuutiful.”

“If I knew I don’t want to know, because then I’d have to go get it,” Fisher said when asked where was the rest of her.

Before the weight loss, she said, “I couldn’t leave the house [to go shopping], because they didn’t have sizes [large enough]. I exhausted the alphabet on bra sizes.” She also admitted she could no longer look at herself in the mirror.

Now, Fisher is proud to be able to buy clothes she hadn’t imagined wearing before, though being over age 50 she’ll shun going sleeveless.

Of the Jenny Craig weight-loss plan, Fisher admitted she’s addicted to the cereal, because “it tastes like contraband,” which appeals to her. Fisher also credited her consultant, who allowed the actress “to complain to, stamp my fat foot and say I didn’t want to do it.”

[From People]

Carrie said a couple of things that I found funny and could relate to. First she said she didn’t like to see pictures of herself before she lost the weight. “I saw pictures of myself where I didn’t look like [me]. I thought that was growing old, it turns out it was mostly getting fat.” I only gained 10 pounds in the past year or so and I hate to see photos of myself. I think my face looks so different. Also I could relate to what she said about how she asked her daughter “what do I do that embarasses you?” and she said “wear a bra.” I try to tell my mom that, subtly, all the time.

She also quipped that being Princess Leia was like being Minnie Mouse and added there’s “a marijuana called Princess Leia, not that I’ve seen it.” Carrie wants to get back in her Star Wars metal bikini and joked that she’s coming out with a line of metal bikinis for women over 40. That’s it, the next chance I get I’m watching her Wishful Drinking special on HBO. She’s funny as hell.

Here’s Carrie “Before,” in January, 2011 announcing that she’s going to be a Jenny Craig spokesperson.

And here she is in October, 2009, before whatever it is she had done. I have no idea what’s up with the sparkles around her eyes, but this photo was taken outside her performance of Wishful Drinking, so this must be stage makeup.

    I don’t like her new face 🙁

  2. brin says:

I applaud her, that’s no easy feat at her age….good for her!

  3. lucy2 says:

I like Carrie, she’s funny and seems to have a good sense of humor about her most famous movie role. She looks good, and I’m glad it sounds like she’s doing well, but really, 50 lbs is not “can’t leave the house, can’t buy clothes, can’t find a bra” weight.

  4. Pyewacket says:

She doesn’t even sound the same.
Oh and I hate Ann Curry with a passion! What a boot licker that woman is!

  5. Celebitchy says:

@Pyewacket – I noticed that too! Her voice is no longer all raspy. Anne Curry bugs me too.

  6. Stubbylove says:

Happy for Carrie – she looks fantastic – a bit dramatic – but then again she’s an actress surrounded by hollywood and had actors for parents. That being said – agree with you both -ANN CURRY BUGS THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF ME.

  7. John Wayne Lives says:

I cant even watch this. The stills are bad enough.
Why would she do this to herself?!

  8. Turtle Dove says:

When I first saw the photos on another site I thought that Rosanne Barr lost a lot of weight. I didn’t even make the connection between the pictures and Carrie.

  9. gee_gee says:

I don’t care what Carrie looks like. She gets the unconditional thumbs up from me. Fat. Thin. Plastic surgery. Since “Wishful Drinking” on HBO she can do no wrong. This chick is hilarious regardless of how she looks.

  10. RobN says:

50 lbs. was a huge amount of weight when I lost it and I’m 5’10”. At Fisher’s 5’1″, that’s enough to change your whole life. Good for her but she’s just getting to the hard part; it’s the keeping it off that’s rough. Good luck to her.

  11. Nymeria says:

I think she looked much better before she decided it was time for a change.

  12. Toe says:

I think so looks good now…she looks healthy.

  13. margaret says:

she could totally play Elizabeth Edwards

  14. k says:

I really love her, but hate the new face. It’s too bad.

  15. gee says:

I think she got lipo under her chin and it totally changed the shape of her face. Not just a facelift and some botox.

  16. buell says:

Good for her! Her HBO special Wishful Drinking was funny. I never knew how eccentric her mom, Debbie Reynolds, is. And those sparkles are from the glitter she throws at the audience during the special.

  17. Truthful says:

I like her, she looks good for her age and she has balls..

remember when she served that dig at John Travolta..

was it “everyone in LA knows he’s gay”.

COS let her live and she wasn’t afraid, LOL

At least she is not proclaiming to be a size 4 like Kirstie.

  18. bluhare says:

It’s great she’s had the discipline to lose that weight. The face, though? Horrid. Just awful. Her mom looks better than she does.

  19. Liz says:

    Blind item solved

  20. Lantana says:

@Pyewacket (and CB) ita about Ann Curry. I saw her cooking segment this morning and I expected her to drop to her knees and give the guy a BJ any second. She is just a total suck-up, and she’s like that with everyone!

  21. Goofpuff says:

Wow! Hehe I would pay to see her in the metal bikini again. That would be interesting to see but I don’t think that will be happening any time soon.

  22. hmmm says:

I hate it when stars feel they have to drastically change their face like this. She looks like a completely different person. wow

  23. Maritza says:

Glad to see she got her self esteem back, she looks so much more secure of herself. Her mom has a prettier face.

  24. daisydoodle says:

Love Carrie Fisher, good for her…Hate Ann Curry, have you ever noticed that she asks the question and then answers it for the interviewee?

  25. anne_000 says:

She looks like Britney Spear’s mother now.

  26. Katherine says:

Spare me. She needed a personal trainer to stay on her diet. That doesn’t bode well for keeping it off.

Lots of womem experience similar weight loss and even more with Weight Watchers. Maybe the consultant is a sub for group encouragement a la WW. She lost a little over a pound a week. That’s a healthy rate of loss and shouldn’t cause any sagging skin issues.

I think her need for plastic surgery has more to do with her abusive lifestyle over so many years. Women in their early 50s can still look good if they are in shape. Your face really shouldn’t look like a minefield at that age. Now she looks like Mary McDonnell.

I hear you, Kaiser. Metabolism takes a nose dive around 40. Obviously the best thing to do is to start a lifestyle that includes exercise and reduced food intake. But even if your weight gets away from you people should know that losing the weight is definitely doable even in your 50s and getting your muscles back in shape is also doable with the right exercises also even in your 50s.

If she’s worried about her arms she needs to do upper arm exercises with increasing weights particularly her delts. She’ll have great arms and shoulders in less than 6 months.

  27. Kloops says:

Love her. She’s batsh!t crazy, but in a hilarious and endearing way. Wish she wouldn’t mess with her face though.

  28. WOM says:

It’s great that she’s lost all that weight, but the plastic surgery is awful. If it weren’t for the captions & headline, I wouldn’t know this was Carrie Fisher.

  29. PrettyLights says:

Good for her for doing whatever makes her feel better about herself. Her face looks a lot different but I think it’s mostly because it’s a lot thinner. My mom and sister are both bigger women and I feel for them because it’s extremely hard for them to lost weight no matter how healthy they eat or how much they exercise. It’s linked to Thyroid disease in my family. I’ve seen the kind of self esteem issues and depression it can cause, especially for my sister who went from being a size 6 to a 16 and there was really nothing she could do to stop it. My Mom did recently lose 50 pounds after having her thyroid removed at the age of 47, and she feels and looks so great and her self confidence has really returned.

  30. mln76 says:

@Katherine there is nothing wrong with hiring a personal trainer if you can afford one. In fact it’s advisable if you haven’t exercised regularly and at 54 are just starting a new routine. It also provides motivation to get to the gym if you are feeling lazy. A good substitute for those on a smaller budget is a workout/gym buddy.

  31. ladybert62 says:

She looks good and I am so jealous I just turned green!

Fifty pounds would put me right back to where I was at 25! Ah yes, it gets very hard to lose weight as you age – I am convinced the metabolism slows and as the aging body gets more difficult to shove around the block due to arthritis etc, the weight just keeps on coming even though I have reduced much bad food that I was eating.

  32. Gal says:

I haven’t watched the today show since Ann took over. Before I could take her is small doses. I had watched it for over 20 years.

  33. Sue says:

Ann Curry is a big suck up! I don’t think she has a funny bone in her body. I miss Meredith Vieira!

  34. Novaraen says:

    She looks great….good for her!

    Love Carrie…she’s hilarious. 🙂

  35. Ell says:

Glad she lost the weight but really sad about her face. That’s it then – no natural looking women in Hollywood over 45.

  36. Katherine says:

I know I know. Nothing wrong with a personal trainer but that’s not what she has. She has someone to keep her from eating too much. That kind of discipline you really need to find within yourself. It looks like she still has addiction issues.

Ladybert, as someone who has been there I can tell you that losing a large amount of weight can be done in your 50s. I was always petite all my life no matter what and how much I ate. My weight gain started slowly in my 40s and before I knew it I was 80 lbs overweight. I love to cook and eat. But I had become Jabba the Hut thinking I was cleverly disguising it with black suits and pants. LOL!

For someone who never had to diet before I was at sea. But after much thought (I hate group think) I went with a friend to Weight Watchers and found it encouraging and completely workable. Within 6 months I had lost 35 lbs and felt so encouraged. Though I took a few months break after plateauing I resumed my WW regimen on my own – no meetings – and cut out all the WW extra points you were allowed then and added a 50 minute exercise routine with free weights every single day just using an old Body Electric video. Within 4 months my stomach was flat and my arms were toned and by the end I was down to 109 lbs and never looked better – especially my butt. Even though I didn’t get back to the 104 lb weight of my 40 year old self I could fit into my old skinny jeans I wore at that weight.

So take heart and be kind to yourself. You CAN do it. I thought I could never set the time aside to do it but I did. As for aches and pains the exercising and weight loss can alleviate that. For instance, a pain I had in my knee disappeared after a few months of working the hamstrings & quads. You have to make this a priority and everyone who tries to get in your way or inadvertently sabotage it has to step back. Husbands and lovers included.

Sorry for the rant to those not interested.

  37. LBeees says:

Carrie looks great. I’ll never say all plastic surgery is bad, it’s just that there’s a time and a place for it, and it requires a deft hand.

If you’re going to get a nose job, go with the best. More than a third of women getting plastic surgery have to come back for corrective procedures. So if you’re going to do it, do it right. Pay the money for a well-regarded specialist.

    end rabblerant.

  38. lola lola says:

I love her! She’s been to hell and back and is smarter, wiser and now hotter than ever. Good for her!

  39. Lady Satan says:

Good for her for losing the weight! She does look dramatically different, but not entirely jacked-to-hell.

Maybe the difference is just a combination of aging/weight loss/a little nip and tuck. In any case, she looks (and probably IS) much healthier with that 50 pounds gone.

  40. Cookie says:

I love Carrie, she is amazing. She has battled manic depression most of her adult life. A very courageous, real woman. She looks fantastic. Hats off to her.

  41. Cleo says:

Why did Princess Leia have to SUFFER???? WHY?

  42. anti says:

    she looks great! yay!

  43. Jackson says:

She looks pretty fabulous now. I actually think she looks more like her old self now, after having work done, than she did before. Much better.

  44. Nah, nah & nah... says:

LOVE HER, big, little or Leia’ed. “Wishful Drinking” was one of the funniest and most ingenious things to make it to tv this year. I wish her all successs in whatever she’s got next up her skinny clothes sleeve.

  45. MrsOdie2 says:

She’s a hilarious, talented writer. It must be hard to look thin when you are so busty and short. Good for her! I follow her on Twitter, but she rarely tweets.

  46. jane16 says:

She looks great! I have known her for years and am very happy for her. She is a truly decent person, very kind. One of the few actresses that I’ve always liked.

  47. Elizabeth says:

If Carrie likes her new face, that’s good enough for me. She has been in Hollywood long term and should be commended for still being (relatively) sane. I am 49 and its hard to deal with the evil middle aged metabolism – I have lost 20 lbs recently in 4 months with Weight Watchers. I tried other sh*t for years but it didn’t do the fix. And yes, 40+ lbs. just found me when I was 39. But bad habits helped too.

  48. Seal Team 6 says:

I think she looks more like she used to. I also think she looks more like her mother than she did before, too.

  49. jane16 says:

Katherine, congrats to you! You’re right, its never to late!

  50. Nancy C. says:

actually the video looks better than the stills. not to sure of the hairstyle. but she does look quite good and the face is not bad..at least she left her lips alone!!!

  51. Judy says:

Good for Carrie, but her face is a different shape, and that’s not a result of just losing weight. I would never have recognized her had I not seen her on TODAY. What is wrong w/ her neck…kept wondering while I watching TODAY this a.m.–does she have goiter?

  52. Ellen Ripley says:

I love this woman. I don’t care what she does to herself, and I think she looks terrific–I agree, she looks more like her old self. More power to her.

  53. april says:

She looks better. She looked awful before.

  54. Lee says:

    You go GIRL….you look smokin……

  55. 4Real says:

Wishful Drinking was great. I’ve watched it twice. She says she woke up one day looking like “Elton John” I spit out my wine LMAO! She looks amazing!

  56. faye says:

Oh wow she had gotten big. I had no idea.

  57. Moi says:

She looks great, good for her.

  58. RuddyZooKeeper says:

Weight issues are typical for people living with bipolar disorder. Between the meds and other self-soothing/medicating outlets (eating and/or drug use are common), heaviness is unfortunately normal. Yeah, she’ll have trouble maintaining, but that comes with the territory and she knows that. Let her enjoy it–this is a huge accomplishment!

  59. Amy says:

Good on her for losing weight, but yikes…I think she looks so much older than 54. She doesn’t look “great” at all!

  60. wunderkindt says:

    Kudos to Carrie!

    @Katherine

Awesome, thanks for sharing your story!:)

  61. DreamyK says:

    Cheeses..her face. Wow. Unfortunate.

  62. Amelia says:

If you ask me, nice she lost weight, sad what she’s done to her face. She looks like Roseann’s twin sister now. Hope that’s what she was going for. Also, losing that much weight that quickly? Well, just hope it’s easy for her to keep it off.

  63. John Wayne Lives says:

It’s a day later and I’m still not over this. I love her. Adore her. Grew up wanting to be her (or Princess Leia). I dont think she looks bad, (and yay for the weight loss, I’m sure she feels better) but she doesn’t look like Her. That’s the problem with plastic surgery. All the small nuances in someone’s face that makes them uniquely them, are gone. But. I love her.

  64. Mario says:

She looks great, stop trying to piss on her parade. Stop searching for things to bitch about.

  65. The Bobster says:

She looks much better now. Before, she looked like the love child of Jabba and Pizza the Hut.

  66. eternalcanadian says:

While it is awesome Carrie feels better about her weight and health, it is too bad that didn’t transcend to her face as she is no longer recognizable as Carrie Fisher but some generic “cut and shake” cosmetic procedure. Oh my, she looks so weird now! Like Joan Rivers. 😮

  67. Magsy says:

She looks like Brenda Vaccaro. Funny her mom aged better and stayed prettier a lot longer of course her dad Eddie Fisher was no oil painting, looks like she inherited his looks.

  68. debbie welter says:

I love Carrie, mostly as an author. It’s just that I thought, from her books, that she eschewed the “looks” abyss. Because it is an abyss, a gaping maw that can never be satisfied. To be about looks is to chase smoke. It’s just too bad that she can barely articulate. I don’t think her top lip moves at all. Don’t want to see that, no matter how proud she gets of her weight loss.

  69. bob says:

i’m male, and 36, and i’ll say this about Carrie Fisher:

    i totally wanna do her.
