Evan Rachel Wood: “The secret lives of politicians are always shady”

erw1

Evan Rachel Wood is profiled in both of the November issues of GQ and Elle Magazine. Never a cover girl, always an interview. Thankfully, I’m not feeling the Jolie so strongly in Evan these days (but there’s still some faint Jolie stuff happening). Evan is trying to carve out a new identity for herself, I think. And it’s mostly working. She’s post-Marilyn Manson, with one of the most promising careers in Young Hollywood. When you think about Evan might even be in a stronger position, career-wise, than other young talents like Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain. She’s on that level, I believe. Plus, Evan gives good interviews, she’s interesting on the red carpet and she gives good photo. All of a sudden, she’s everywhere and she’s interesting but not famewhorey about it. Basically, I like this new Evan. Here are the highlights from both her Elle and GQ articles:

Evan on the roles she chooses: “I always want to do things that reflect where I am. I do the roles that give me butterflies.”

Evan on her nude scenes: “I learned that I needed to control the situation in order not to be too self-conscious. I said to myself, I’m an awesome naked lady, and there’s an energy that I’m going give off right now that lets you know how you’re going to feel about this.”

ERW on her Ides of March character, where she sleeps with multiple guys in a matter of weeks: “I don’t think she’s actually ashamed of what she did. It’s strange: The one thing that could take down any politician is sleeping with the intern. But it has nothing to do with being a good politician.”

ERW on Anthony Weiner: “The secret lives of politicians are always shady. People need to accept the fact that their leaders aren’t perfect. No one is.”

ERW on how her bi-sexuality is for real: “No, that’s for real. I’ve been that way since I can remember. I remember growing up and loving when I knew there was a girl like me who I looked up to. I figured I should return the favor. You don’t have to be ashamed.”

[From GQ & Elle]

I love the quote, “The secret lives of politicians are always shady.” Like it’s a universal truth that she’s learned at the ripe age of 24. Still, she’s probably right. I also love her naked pep talk to herself: “I’m an awesome naked lady, and there’s an energy that I’m going give off right now that lets you know how you’re going to feel about this.” I need to give myself that pep talk more often.

Here are some photos of Evan leaving her NYC hotel the past few days:

I wouldn’t call Jessica Chastain a “young” talent, not by Hollywood standards anyway.

    ” I’m an awesome naked lady, ” — I love that.

Shes no Jolie but i like her.

Love her hair (in 1 pic).

  3. Karen says:

I really like her! But right now all I can think about are those crazy skinny stiletto heel boots in the last pic. If I took one step, I’m sure the heel would snap off under the weight of anyone over 100 lbs.

I love you, black Prada sunnies.

She looks SO good when she dresses like a girl.

i want that red dress, and even the sunglasses and leather jacket and tights… heels no; everything else yes

It is frustrating that women in Hollywood continue to be defined by whomever they’re boning – or worse – who they boned in the past. So she was with Manson. Whatevs. Clearly, they’re both over it. She must be sick of hearing about it. I think it shows that she’s got a bit more depth, dating someone like that, than just arranging through her publicist to have a pretty boy toy at her disposal (coughAnistoncough). The truth is, Evan is extremely talented and works hard to stand out from the other mostly vapid starlets. And she does. She’s going places, no matter what man she is attached to.

Those heels are the new thing. I saw them at the designer debut at Harrod’s months ago. I swear they look like a spike sticking out of the shoe. Shown by more than one designer.
Never going to be a look I’d wear. I know I’d bust my ass. One crack or grate and down you go.

Didn’t she bust up Dita’s marriage? Or was he already out by the time they hooked up?

I’m glad we have the intellectual prowess of ERW to let us in on the shady underbelly that IS the private life of our politicians. Really, when you think about about it, she would be the foremost authority on the subject, right?

Thank God we have these Hollywood types to explain life to us.

    @MSat
    Completely agree

ive always really liked her, ever since i first saw ‘Running With Sissors’ and i think that she is unbelievably, timelessly gorgeous – think of her in True Blood, or in Mildred Pierce – so it really really pains me to say this, but holy crap, i really HATE the short hair on her. on a good day it looks like some lame-dated-1988-REM fan in college-look. and thats on a GOOD day. and that was even lame back then.

i know that you don’t have to have long hair to be considered hot or pretty or beautiful or whatev… but it just doesn’t work on her, i just don’t get it. i can’t remember the last time a celebrity’s hair bothered me this much, like, it actually irks me…. what is wrong with me that it could bother me that much?? i can’t help it, it’s like beauty squandered. it drives me nuts!

wow… those last two pictures. I’m totally getting Kelly Osbourne vibes. I do like her interviews, though.
