Michelle Pfeiffer on the botox & plastic surgery epidemic: “It’s kind of sad”

pfiefferelle1

Elle magazine has compiled a collection of quotes from its “Women In Hollywood 2011” feature, which includes the above photos of an ethereal looking Michelle Pfeiffer wearing a 1950s vintage James Galanos dress. Yes, the lighting is very kind, and the greyscale adds to that effect, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Pfieffer is 53-years-old and looks positively remarkable as such.

Pfieffer herself has been the subject of plastic surgery rumors, and if you look at this photo comparison, which alleges that Michelle has had some work done on her face, I think it’s fairly obvious that she’s had a nose job. As to the cheek implant claim, it’s probably more of a case of weight loss and makeup. Whatever the case, she’s likely just had a few tweaks done like everyone else in Hollywood and doesn’t come close to being a surgery addict or a botox monster. On that topic, Pfieffer has a few choice words for Elle:

On Playing Al Pacino’s trophy wife in Scarface: I was terrified the whole time. I was so out of my league with all of these seasoned actors. Here I was, this little waify thing in these little flimsy clothes, and who was I? I was the girl from Grease 2!

On Plastic Surgery: I’m all for a little something here and there-fine. It doesn’t matter to me if people have plastic surgery or they don’t, or if they do Botox. But when people don’t look like themselves anymore, that’s when you kind of go, “Oooh,” and it’s kind of sad. It’s uncomfortable for us, but if they’re happy with what they see in the mirror, does it matter?

[From Elle]

She’s absolutely correct on cosmetic enhancement really only mattering when people no longer look like their former selves. Like Megan Fox, Heidi Montag, and Nicole Kidman, among many others. Pfieffer also takes great care to not sound too judgy (although it’s easy to take her words out of context) about the topic either because, clearly, she’s not one-hundred percent natural herself. Still, she’s pretty damn close, right?

Here’s some photos from the set of New Year’s Eve in February, where Michelle shares a scene with (gulp) Zac Efron:

What a hypocrite! She’s had plenty o work done and yet sits there on her high horse. She’s like Halle Berry, et al. Those actresses who are known for their looks and think they can fool the masses into believing it’s all natural…

  2. Addie says:

This is one woman who does not need any plasic surgery.

She is a true beauty, has been from her younger days and has aged well, subtle surgery or not.

  3. Eve says:

Hear that, Kate Winslet? It’s possible to say something reasonable about plastic surgery in this business without sounding like a self-righteous b*tch OR/AND like you’re flat out lying.

    EDIT (@ Kiki):

She DID NOT said she hadn’t any work done.

  4. AcornPaste says:

For me, it’s either you go under the knife or allow yourself to age gracefully. No in-between ‘Yes honey, you can go under the knife but don’t do it too often’ thing. I’d rather hear ‘natural’ people be self-righteous about plastic surgery than someone who had a few tweaks here and there. Sorry Michelle.

  5. brin says:

I think what she said was fine and didn’t sound harsh at all.

  6. Ashley says:

Michelle in my opinion is the most beautiful hollywood actress around. Of course she has had work done, they ALL have, NO ONE is all natural in hollywood.

  7. Zvonk says:

    @Kiki
Did you just read the title of the article, and base your judgement on that? Clearly she is only talking about those that have such drastic plastic surgery that they no longer look like themselves. At no point does she deny having procedures herself. On the contrary, she alludes to having had work done.

  8. lucy2 says:

I think she’s had a bit done, but it was well done, not too much, and she still looks like herself – beautiful.

  9. serena says:

    Ewwwwwww on the nose.

Halle Berry? Seriously? She IS natural.

  10. the original bellaluna says:

I think she’s beautiful. She doesn’t look Lardassian-esque or like an alien-being. She doesn’t look stuffed-and-plumped beyond recognition.

    I’ve always kinda liked her.

  11. Diane says:

That black dress is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen her in.

  12. RocketMerry says:

    Love the Pfeiffer. She’s gorgeous.

  13. Angela says:

She’s one of the prettiest Hollywood actresses IMO, but I think she was just as pretty with her wider nose and thinner lips.

  14. Micah says:

    She’s Fabulous!

  15. AZ says:

She was beautiful in Scarface 🙂

  16. Annaloo says:

I think it’s safe to assume that it’s a pretty open secret Ms. Pfieffer has had work done. I’ve gone to two different surgeons in two states for procedures, and both have talked about her as an example of “good” cosmetic surgery.

Apparently one procedure she has had performed was to get a mini face-lift every few years. Subtle pull here and there, so that the Marie Osmond/Shar-Pei effect never had a chance to happen…

  17. Jessica says:

I agree with AZ – Love her in Scarface!!

  18. clare says:

She looks lovely and recognizable, so that’s great tweaking.
However, I’d like to see more women go bravely and brazenly into mature womanhood without the fillers, etc.

  19. Ashley says:

For all the subtle work she’s had done, I’ve often wondered why she seems so adverse to brightening her teeth. I’ve noticed that several times at promotional appearances.

  20. Samigirl says:

@Serena, have you NOT seen old Halle Berry pics? Girlfriend had a nose job. A subtle one, but she definitely had a bump shaved down.

  21. The Other Katherine says:

    Still one foxy lady.

  22. Pamela says:

    1. If Michelle had plastic surgery ..it was ages ago. A nose job at 20 in Hollywood is like getting highlights anywhere else is the country. It is not really the same (imho) as completely re-working your entire face at 40 to the point where you look like Frankenstein…all in the hopes of looking younger.

    2. That said, it is easy for her to say that people shoiuldn’t tweak. LOOK at her. If everyone looked like her–no one would be getting any surgery.

  23. Kimbob says:

I think Michelle took the high road on this one. She gets her point across clear and concisely. She said what we all think when we look at celebrities who have obviously overdone the surgeries/tweaks/nips/tucks.

If anyone is going to talk/criticize plastic surgery/shots/whatever the hell these people are doing to themselves….this is the way to do it. Bravo! Well-said!

  24. whome says:

she was not passing judgement… we are hello.@ kiki she looks great and its never an issue to get a tuck here and there (we are creatures of vanity after all) but to make your self into a entire diff person ( which neither she or halle has done ) is a little extreme!

  25. Happy21 says:

    @Kimbob

You took the words out of my mouth and said what I was thinking better than I could. I agree 100% with what you said.

I think Michelle is gorgeous. She still looks like a mature actress ands he still looks like the same girl from Grease 2!

  26. Melissa says:

She is so stunning. I watched The Fabulous Baker Boys a few weeks ago. I was 15 when it came out originally and hadn’t seen the movie since that time. Now that I am in my 30’s I realize just how hot Jeff Bridges was back then. O.M.G.

And as perv as this sounds, I was hoping for a more intense sex-scene between Jeff and Michelle. Would have been so hot! lol

  27. dena says:

Hey Puh-feiffer, how would you like a punch in your puh-face?

  28. Samigirl says:

@Melissa, NOT pervy. I’ve discussed that same thing with my friends, lol. Both Jeff and Michelle are gorgeous. My good friends dad (rest his soul) looked just like Jeff Bridges. She gets sick of us telling her how hot her dad was 🙂

  29. Victoria says:

Loving Michelle. Always will. I think she’s aging well. I do not think everyone goes under the knife. Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton seemed to maintain the same fantabulous faces throughout the years. As far as Halle is concerned…sometimes I think she did with her nose. And sometimes I don’t. I don’t think Angie has had worth either. But then there is that forehead vain that scream Botox Bitch. Not sure.

I love Kate. And until she’s proven a hypocrite I will continue to love her stance on not mutilating herself and having unnecessary surgery so she can fit in to standards of Hollywood when she looks absolutely beautiful as is.

  30. ShanKat says:

    Well hello there, Zac Efron.

She’s awesome. And baked, in the black dress.

  31. Vanessa says:

In these pics she looks fine but, I saw her on some awards show recently and her face looked completely jacked, like she definitely had something done and she didn’t look like herself anymore. It was reall sad. Maybe she was able to correct the bad surgery since, but she sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

  32. Seal Team 6 says:

She had a nosejob done decades ago. Look at her nose in “Grease 2,” then look at her nose in her next few movies.

Not sure she’s had anything bid done at all. I don’t see it.

  33. JennJenn says:

She gave a classy answer. She did not address directly what kind of work she had done, which is nobody else’s business, and thankfully, she did not lie and boast about her youthful looks owing solely to good genes and good living. Rather, she acknowledged that it was fine for people to use cosmetic procedures to look younger as long as they don’t overdo it. Cindy “Botox scares me” Crawford, Jennifer “I tried Botox once” Anniston, and others take note.

  34. Claire78 says:

She is gorgeous. I too watched ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’ a few weeks ago and was blown away by her. Also saw ‘Cherie’ a while ago and she was gorgeous – didn’t look young but elegant and the clothes were to die for. Demi Moore could learn something. Yeah reckon Michelle has had some touch ups but she still looks herself and has wrinkles etc. As for Halle Berry being natural – have you not seen her previous nose?? I got a shock, amazing how a new nose can take you from pretty to stunning.

  35. Annie says:

The neck lines at 53 are unavoidable and she’s obviously had this done…but much like a nose job I would agree this doesn’t count.
As for everything else if we’re not sure….and she looks so fabulous..mazeltoff!!

  36. Camille says:

I adore Michelle. She is one of my long time girl crushes.
I don’t care that she has had a little bit of work done, she still looks like herself to me. I think she looks amazing and is such a beautiful woman. I miss seeing her in new movies :(.

And as for those commenting on Halle Berry- puuleaze. That one has had more than one nose job. Her nose seems to get thinner each year lol. She should just leave her face alone. She has one of the best bodies in HW though- I’ll give her that.

  37. Cerulean says:

Good for Michelle. A little bit goes a long way. She maintains herself quite well and is at least honest.

It’s the liars that make me groan.

  38. smh says:

i’m not against plastic surgery if it’s done well but michelle ruined her nose for no reason. it hurts to look at it now. eww whose nose could be as narrow and as pointy? wtf was the point of that.

  39. Kim says:

She is a plastic surgery and botox victim as well. She has been in denial for years. She looks jacked up lately but obviously has that same Hollywood mirror that Kim K, Fergie, etc all have that somehow doesnt reflect the wax figures we see.

  40. birdie says:

Her name is Pfeiffer, not Pfieffer.

aand yeah, she looks herself like a plastic surgery victim

  41. Patricia says:

Tweaking done right – I think she looks wonderful!

  42. I am not positive where you’re getting your info, however great topic. I must spend a while finding out much more or working out more. Thanks for magnificent info I was searching for this info for my mission.

  43. Ibtissem says:

I’m 25 and I’m from Algeria .. love her since my childhood .. she’s a superb actress and seems modest not like those actors and actress who think that they are real stars .. about botox and some surgery .Yes sure she did some little modifications .but it’s so well done and it looks even natural …. and this lady is so liked in the Arab world ♥
I can’t believe that she messed 3 times the oscar ;( unfair Hollywood
    M.P ♥
