Salma Hayek, billionaire’s wife: “I make my own living and I love it”

wenn3535965

These are some photos of Salma Hayek all over Paris Fashion Week. You know that her husband owns half of these designer lines, so this is basically like Salma walking through her closet – her closet is half the shops in Paris. In the past week, she was front and center at the shows for Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney and several more. Ridiculous. Anyway, that’s not going to stop Salma from singing “Independent Women” and claiming that her billionaire husband doesn’t force her to dress up in the clothes whose labels he owns. Is that really a complaint made against Salma? That she’s a Barbie doll for her husband?

Just because Salma Hayek is married to a powerful businessman doesn’t mean she’s given up her independence.

“I work hard, I make my own living and I love it. I like having financial independence,” Hayek says in the November issue of Redbook. “I don’t ever want to have to depend on anyone completely. But when I have troubles sometimes, it’s nice to have someone there to help.”

Luckily, Hayek can rely on her husband, French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, if need be. Has being married to the CEO of luxury goods firm PPR (which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) influenced her style?

“I like to play fashion with him, but I’m nobody’s Barbie,” Hayek, 45, says.

One huge influence in her life has been her 4-year-old daughter Valentina Paloma. The actress says she chose to star in the upcoming animated feature Puss in Boots because she wanted to make a movie her daughter could see. While motherhood has had an impact on her career choices, Hayek isn’t shying away from provocative roles.

“I’m playing the queen of a drug cartel in an Oliver Stone film,” says Hayek. “He asked if I’d gone ‘all soft’ because I’m a mother. I said, ‘Yes, but I can be the devil if I need to, because after all, I’m an actress.’ “

[From People]

Financial independence is nice, and it’s great that Salma is committed to making some pocket change compared to her husband’s enormous wealth. Do you think that comment was directed at Linda Evangelista? I think it was. I think that’s Salma giving Linda the side-eye and muttering, “You should be able to support your own child, bitch. Stop asking for $46,000 a month from my man.”

But yes, I’m sure that Salma is Miss Independence. I’m sure if Francois Pinault was simply a humble fishmonger, Salma would still be married to him. And I’m sure that if Salma didn’t have that face and those boobs, Francois would still have married her too.

She makes her own living? I haven’t seen her in any films lately. Ever since she hooked up with Mr Billionaire, she has somehow dropped out of the film industry, unless she is behind the scenes producing stuff.

  2. Pyewacket says:

And let’s see, if she were to divorce her hubby, she wouldn’t be asking for anything, including child support??? Yeah, right!

  3. Lindy says:

Ugh, I used to kind of like her. But every interview I have read, every thing out of her mouth, is making me think she’s kind of horrid and entitled and self-righteous.

  4. lambchops says:

I like this feisty Latin boobalicious lady.

  5. Chloe (not chloe) says:

    I love that last paragraph:D

  6. aenflex says:

he’s homely, like Trump. she married him for his money, and anyone thatn says otherwise is kidding themselves.

  7. madpoe says:

I was thinking the same thing, make her own living doing what?
Did she mean she makes her own living but just in case a rainy day happens she’s married to a billionaire?
Or did she mean when having a child with a billionaire is an instant ATM?
I’m all for love and happeniess, but get real you didn’t exactly marry poor so you are kinda living no matter what you DON’T do.

  8. Turd Fergussen says:

Gotta say, I like this woman. I bought some of her new haircare prods at CVS this week and am impressed with the quality that you get for the price. They seem thoughtfully created.

Any woman who’s married to a billionaire and isn’t lounging in the south of France eating bon-bons all day, and is instead busting her ass making films and running a cosmetic line is fine by me. Woman power!

  9. gee says:

But yes, I’m sure that Salma is Miss Independence. I’m sure if Francois Pinault was simply a humble fishmonger, Salma would still be married to him. And I’m sure that if Salma didn’t have that face and those boobs, Francois would still have married her too.

    A+

  10. jinni says:

Auds: IIRC she produced Ugly Betty and she does the voice for one of the main characters in the Puss in Boots animated movie with Antonio Banderas. Plus she just launched a skin care line called Nuance, I think that’s it’s name anyway. So, she is keeping busy.

  11. Happy21 says:

I have no doubt she married for money.

Plus she really doesn’t have much of a career. I don’t know what it is but something about that woman just rubs me wrong…

  12. velourazure says:

    he’s rich, she’s beautiful. yawn….

  13. Jaded says:

@Turd Fergussen – my thoughts exactly. She’s a bit stuck up her own bum but she’s definitely not a rich lay-about. She strikes me as an A-type who has to be buzzing around working on something all the time. And I’ve tried her face creams and I have to admit they’re good, my skin looks great for an old broad!

  14. Jacqu says:

    @gee: +1 for you

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t she come from oil money?

  15. lucy2 says:

She’s got a bunch of film projects in the works, and it does sound like she’s doing other things as well.
But I’m sure the billions and the social status were still a plus in marrying him.

She’s very pretty, but that Redbook cover doesn’t even look like her.

  16. Eve says:

    On topic:

That leather dress looks really uncomfortable.

    Off topic:

Did you guys see the pictures of Madonna on Dlisted? They made me sad (she’s in good shape but there was a certain desperation to her that made me sad — boobs looked very good though).

  17. Viv says:

Ever since she started lying about plastic surgery and condemning it, everything that comes out of her mouth sounds like blablabla yadayadayada to me. Sad.

  18. gab says:

    Salma Hayek

    Height 5’2″ – Weight 115 pounds
    Height 1.57m – Weight 52.27 kg

  19. The Original Ashley says:

Bitch please. I’m sure she doesn’t spend a penny. If she didn’t have her husband’s money and connections do you really think she’d be able to afford the number of houses, or the clothes she gets for free?

I used to like Salma but ever since she married the billionaire she’s turned into a snotty up her own ass socialite. I liked her better when she was her own woman and proud of who she was (a Mexican actress who made it). Now she’s Miss French Socialite. Ugh whatever.

  20. Embee says:

I agree wholeheartedly with her take on being independent and also enjoying having back-up. Of course, her back-up is quite a bit more sizeable than most! Looking at IMDB it appears that she took off in 2008 (when her daughter was born) and has gradually eased back in to working. Seems like a reasonable approach with balanced priorities.

  21. Soy says:

Yes, Salma, of course, Salma. *dont believes a single word she says*

  22. anon says:

@Jaded: Have to get that some of that cream. STAT
Agree with the posters that say she is about some business (I would probably do nothing married to a billionaire) and she had a net worth of $85 million on her own. I know, chump change to his billions. Still a lot more than I’ve made on my own yet. 🙂 I don’t knock anyone for marrying for money so I’m not mad at Salma, or Linda for that matter, beauty gets some a little extra
I guess you have to have money (some) ,fame or beauty to get access to that kind of wealth.

  23. Leticia says:

She is the sexiest, most gorgeous woman!

  24. Denise says:

    Whatever.

  25. gab says:

    To Leticia

Maybe for you she is the sexiest, I don’t find her attractive to be honest, average women with average size. Only boobs maybe advantage that’s all.

  26. bagladey says:

From that statement am I to assume that if they were to divorce she would want NOTHING from the billionaire?

  27. Violet says:

Oh, sure. She would’ve still married this ugly cheater if he weren’t a billionaire. And she would never ask him for child support if he didn’t already lavish waaaaaaay more on her daughter than Linda is asking for her son.

These claims of hers are about as real as her breasts — in other words, 100% fake.

  28. Pamela says:

“But yes, I’m sure that Salma is Miss Independence. I’m sure if Francois Pinault was simply a humble fishmonger, Salma would still be married to him. And I’m sure that if Salma didn’t have that face and those boobs, Francois would still have married her too.”

This doesn’t change the fact that she has her own money. Not as much as HE has–but she still has a HELL of a lot more money than me on her own.

And she DOES have a career. She was in fewer films once her daughter was born—which is a luxury many people would take if they had her means to do it.

But she has plenty going on.

  29. N.D. says:

She’s a multimillionaire herself. She definitelly didn’t need his money to get her fancy closes, homes, cars and whatever. It’s not like her lifestyle changed since she got up with him.

Besides whom did you expect her to marry? She runs in the circles where there are no poor people to socialize with. She happened to get herself one of the richest available but I doubt that was the goal. She was born into money, and then earned 10 times more money herself, hardly a godldigger material.

  30. Caity says:

In the latest Vanity Fair issue, Pinault is one their member’s of “The New Establishment”. In their profile of him the mention how Salma cooks him a THREE COURSE MEAL EVERY NIGHT. I lol’d.

producer: ugly betty, and before, Frida, in the time of the butterflies and the Maldonado miacle(this, she directed it).
She’s been working since her early twenties (she finished college).

I was actually surprised to see her working even after hooking up with this man. She could have very easily given up Ugly Betty and stop acting to focus on her family life. after all, she’s an older mother who has worked most of her life. She was pregnant and working too, not bad for a very rich woman and first time mother…
He is a busy man, and he could have not accepted having to be divided in 2 continent because she works and lives in the USA. He also could have very easily gotten with a much younger woman, someone easy to mold, like many of those young models that are around.
He chose to be with Salma, who is very pretty, but is practically his age (he’s 4 years older than her). I think they are well matched, she is not only pretty, but intelligent.

Kaiser, Celebitchy, you should think about adding a “like” button near that “report this comment as spam or abuse”…

  34. Enny says:

“I don’t ever want to have to depend on anyone completely. But when I have troubles sometimes, it’s nice to have someone there to help.”

Do I take this to mean that Salma, a multi-millionaire on her own, has had money “troubles” and she enjoys having a safety net? At least she’s honest about her multi millions not being enough to support her lavish tastes, but seriously? This woman has to scrimp on what she has earned as an actress? Does she not think that’s a conflict with her “Miss Independent” label, if she’s getting herself into a position where she does, in fact, need a sugar daddy to make sure that she never accidentally has her phone shut off because she wanted the latest it bag?

  35. anon says:

@minnie: Well said. Go Salma 🙂

  36. Sebastian Rio says:

Are you all jealous that she’s married rich or the fact that she has her own money??? By the way. She’s done few big block busters film just last year she worked with Adam Sandler in “gown ups”.

Why the hate? So what if she married rick. At least she’s smart and knows what she wants. Do you ladies know what you want? Of course not. You just love to talk and trash other women.

  37. ocean says:

    shes so beautiful

  38. Dana M says:

Good for her for marrying a man that can “take care” of her and her children if need be. Looks are not everything. But it’s obvious that she can take care of herself and hold her own. Some ladies fall in love with powerful, highly-motivated, “A” type personality men. Some girls find that sexy.

  39. Firecracker says:

‘Yes, but I can be the devil if I need to, because after all, I’m an actress.’ “

Ha, love that comment! I’ve always liked her, still do. I thought her hub was much older than he is, thanks for pointing that out, Minnie.

  40. Auds says:

    I stand corrected then.

  41. JaneWonderfalls says:

She is just blah to me know…I just got turned off by the last several articles I read about her. She makes a lot of money but she is no billionaire his money makes her money look like change. Anytime you see an attractive women marry an old unattractive man, it’s about his money and security.I don’t care what anyone says, yeah she has that right but don’t bs about it.

  42. Kath & Kim says:

I doubt she made that much money. Most of her movies have been flops and she’s a d-list actress.

  43. SandraT says:

Kath & Kim Jealous much? She’s an Oscar-nominated actress, and the definition of A-list, and she’s beautiful.

  44. MB says:

#33: Its pretty distasteful to liken her situation with her HUSBAND and FATHER OF HER CHILD to a sugar daddy arrangement.

It is no way a conflict to say ” I am proud to earn my own money and continue the career that I have built over the last GodKnowsHowLong but its nice to know that we, as a family, are financially secure” By your logic, you can only be Miss Independant if you are the sole bread winner and not having your partner contribute financially. Last time I checked, when you get married it becomes joint money, not his money and her money. Thats how it goes in my marriage and I earn more than my husband by a long shot. That said, I am still glad when his pay day rolls around so I can not worry so much about how far my pay will stretch 😛

  45. Poppy says:

It’s just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor one.

I can’t see Salma marrying anyone she didn’t love. She’d never been married and certainly didn’t have to settle she could have had any of the Hollywood hunks or honchos she set her mind too if she was only after someone with deep pockets. If she had married someone just because they looked good would that make the naysayers happier.

Francoise looks like a generally happy fellow, he’s no oil painting but he’s not ugly and he’s a very successful and powerful business man in his own right, have you never heard the phrase ‘power is a very sexy thing’. Salam decided to marry late, at 42 to a man she is obviously happy with why all the snark?

  46. Alarmjaguar says:

Um, the woman has more money than 99% of the world’s population. Just because ‘she’s no billionaire’, doesn’t mean should isn’t doing just fine. In fact, I’m not really sure why people are implying she’s a poor little rich girl.

  47. LadyJane says:

She grew up in a wealthy family. And as my friend said, money always marries money. She is hardly a gold digger. Money and power can make men more attractive, and that’s a fact. But that doesn’t mean that she is only with him for the dosh… attraction is a complex thing. There are lots of billionaires and lots of actresses in this world, it was something more than that which drew these two together. I like her. So what if she married an ugly billionaire? I think that makes her more interesting than just falling for a pretty faced co-star.

  48. Carolyn says:

Kaiser #32 is onto something. It would be a nice shout-out to all the witty contributors here if we could “like” comments. So many times I’ve snorted with laughter and said “right on” to many who have phrased things better than I could. I wonder, now that Salma is a trophy wife, if she will be able to hold this very good $$ catch or if there’ll be an ugly divorce 15 years from now when he wants a younger version.

  49. Minty says:

Salma Hayek is a (cosmetically enhanced) beautiful woman, but the more she opens her mouth, the uglier she appears. First off, she was born into wealth. Her father is a rich oil company executive in Mexico. She never lived in poverty or struggled financially. She never had to wait tables. She had her parents’ money to fall back on if her acting career in Mexico had dried up. Second, Salma had a nose job, a good one. She also has breast implants, good ones. If you don’t believe me, people, Google it. Third, how long has she been in Hollywood now? I ask because her acting has not improved one bit. She got roles because of her face and boobs – her sexy image, and not from any acting talent. Finally, yes, she’s made her own money from acting and producing, but for some people to think she married Pinault for love seems ludicrous. She grew up with wealth and wants more of the same, to maintain “the lifestyle to which she has been accustomed”. Hasn’t it been often said that those who have money want even more?

  50. Kath & Kim says:

“Kath & Kim Jealous much? She’s an Oscar-nominated actress, and the definition of A-list, and she’s beautiful.”

@SandraT: don’t be silly. She looks very nice, but she is not, nor has she ever been an A-list actress. She’s a very minor acting talent on a good day.
