Fallout from Alexander was painful for Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell has turned into a new man recently. Showing a much more vulnerable and mature side than in the past, Farrell has opened up about personal issues and become introspective. Colin recently spoke about his addictions, and the pressures of fame, and now, he’s talking about the effect the panning of his film Alexander, and his performance in it, had on him.

“Alexander hurt, you know — and again people are going to say ‘Get over it, you were well paid’ and all that. But Alexander hurt,” Farrell told reporters.

“The response that it got was really painful and all of us got a really hard time, and I didn’t come across too well either in the majority of reviews and even with the audiences — people did not respond to it.

“It was a film that was made to be seen by many people. Not many people saw it and they weren’t particularly fond of it, and that was s—-, it was really s—-,” he said.

“I took it to heart. I felt like I had let a lot of people down, I felt like I had disappointed a lot of people … And it took a while to get over that,” Farrell said.

I feel an overwhelming urge to hug Colin Farrell and tell him it’s ok, and stroke his hair. I would make it all better…

Collin is getting through it without my help, though, sadly for me and my fantasies. After working in a couple movies he feels good about, Farrell has found himself in a place where the “disillusionment ceased to be something that is still present” in his life regarding his work.

Colin is currently starring with Edward Norton in Pride and Glory, one of the movies that helped him get over his feeling of failure. The movie debuted at No. 5 last weekend and is getting mixed reviews, but hopefully Colin will take it in stride. He can comfort himself in knowing that In Bruges, an excellent film, has been nominated for seven British Independent Film awards, tying for the most nominations of 2008 with the Steve McQueen directed Hunger. Both movies are nominated for Best Film.

Alexander wasn’t his fault necessarily – I put most of the blame on Oliver Stone.

I’m glad Colin’s gotten his life together – he seems happier and healthier. But sometimes I miss that crazy, womanizing SOB he once was. *sigh*

  2. rottenkitty says:

Yeah, “Alexander” was painful for all eleven of us who went to see it…

  3. Trillion says:

Oliver Stone is a tool for casting a woman one year older than Farrell to play his freaking mother. Stupid. And AJ should not have taken the role either. Also stupid.

I forced my friends to send away their husband and kids, light a candle, break out a bottle of wine, hunker down at the computer and FIND HIS SEX TAPE!

They did and now there are even more women lusting after Colin Farrell!!! Sigh!!

After watching that movie where he was in a phone booth for two hours and I was spellbound, I will watch anything he is in. A man that talk in a phone booth for two hours, look hot doing it, and still make it interesting is worth keeping around. And he looks dirty, but hot in that photo!

What a coincidence! Because that tedious, teeth-grinding seemingly 12 hour long movie was painful to watch !

  7. Mairead says:

Farrell made the best of a bad lot with Alexander, although what the hell he was thinking when he let them bleach his hair and eyebrows is beyond me.

If you think that Farrell-fangirls are devoted/obsessed, (not looking at anyone in particular… Karen 😉 ), you should see the shower who adore Alexander! 😮 You’d have thought that with such a subject it would be difficult to make a boring film about him – but the second half was dull. Not bad, or terribly acted, but incredibly hum-drum.

This film was going to be seriously scrutinised, especially coming after films like Gladiator which despite having a very respected advisor like Prof Kathleen Coleman whom they ignored, still managed to get some semblance of accuracy in there sometimes whilst providing an entertaining film.

Anyway, glad to see that he’s working again. And Kaiser – I hope you’ve seen In Bruges by now. I’ve just bought the DVD so I’m looking forward to seeing the extras.

    LOL@ Mairead!!

  9. Kaiser says:

@Mairead – *shameface* No, I didn’t rent it yet. That weekend I promised to see it, I ended up getting Iron Man (which was good, I even enjoyed Dame Prisspot Paltrow).

  10. clare says:

    Oh, God, that sex tape…
Come to my bed, Colin, and let me ease your pain.

I never saw the film, but after reading an interview w/ Ollie Stone in last months Men’s Journal…I’ll blame whatever I can onthat American hating, p*ssy. (He hid in the bar when the rest of the W cast were protesting those two who got arrested and tazed – yeah Ollie’s a “real hero” – my *ss.)

I like Colin, even more when I read about how he helped out this homeless guy a while back. Not just w/change and a few bucks, but got the guy on his feet. He got his wings for that one. Plus, as an early going whiter, I adore him for his hair.

  12. jennifer says:

Oh Colin for the love of…CUT THE HAIR, PLEASE! I don’t mind long hair on a dude, but it’s gotta be manly, sort of shaggy, CERTAINLY NOT PRETTY!!! Like, long flowing tresses, a mane that could grace a shampoo bottle…not a good look for a man…(I’d still totally have sex with him, don’t get me wrong… 😛

i saw that movie alexander and i have to say some of it turned my stomach. i’ll leave it at that.

  14. Buttercup says:

God that Alexander movie was awful, so good on you CF for seeing how truely awful that film was. I’ve never heard so many awful accents (not to mention the acting) in one film before. Terrible.

I’ve never understood CF’s appeal, I don’t find him attractive at all and I don’t think he’s all that as an actor either. Still, his latest interviews have made him seem more likeable somehow, so thats something I guess. 😆

  15. lulu says:

Well i should tell i saw Alexander movie and i loved it i have the two versions but i liked the director’s cuts better may be the reason you guys didn’t like it because you saw the theatrical version , if it didn’t sell good wasn’t because of his acting it was because of Alexander sexuality colin was brilliant and kaiser i recommend you see pride and glory it’s in theater now he’s awesome btw he looks so hot with long hair.
