Duchess Kate wears red L.K. Bennett in Copenhagen: gorgeous or meh?

kate_and_will_31_wenn3588701

A few weeks ago, The Mail’s Katie Nichol announced that Duchess Kate could not and would not become the patroness of a charity that dealt with human trafficking, because the charity was associated with the United Nations. Because apparently, no one in the British royal family can be in any way associated with the UN. Except not really. Because just days after the Duchess explained away her latest reason for not becoming more involved in one particular charity, the royal spokesperson announced that William and Kate would be making a trip to Copenhagen to do a photo op for UNICEF, The United Nations Children’s Fund. These are the photos from that trip, which went down yesterday.

William and Kate touched down in Copenhagen and they were greeted by Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Kate’s coat is beautiful, isn’t it? She always has good style when it comes to coats – she’s like Angelina Jolie in that way. I could take or leave Kate’s fashions most of the time (like Angelina’s fashions too), but I would kill for their coats. The coat is the Ami Coat from L.K. Bennett, in burgundy, and it costs £276.00, which is what…? About $400 or more, I think. The belt is included with the coat too. The maker of the boots is unknown, but some of the Kate sites are suggesting Stuart Weitzman. As for the eyeliner… dear God, Raccoon McWaity. But at least her long-standing Button Problem didn’t rear its ugly head during this visit.

Once in Copenhagen, William and Kate’s UNICEF photo op went well. They went to a UNICEF supply center where packages are put together containing medical supplies and food, and sent off to famine-stricken East Africa. Kate even spoke to the press! She said, “It’s really shocking. It’s been going for 100 days or so and a huge amount still has to happen with hundreds of children malnourished at the moment. Hopefully we can do as much as we can.” William spoke too, saying: “The rains have come now and, as hopefully you’ve all heard from the UNICEF brief, that doesn’t necessarily mean things are going to get better at all. In fact, disease becomes a huge issue.”

The smiley dude that Kate is getting friendly with is named Isaac Maina, and he’s a full-time employee of UNICEF. He told the press that Kate told him that she and William and going to Kenya “soon”. Probably on one of their dozen vacations a year, I suspect. And it will probably be to some private resort, not a refugee camp.

She looks good…especially in red tones.

  2. Bite me says:

    Poor thing looks tired

  3. JulieM says:

Famine and drought, not to mention war, have been going on in Africa for decades and there are more than “hundreds” of malnourished children there. These two make doing something meaningful, like supporting UNICEF, in to something superficial.

    Nice coat, though.

    Blast away.

  4. Diane says:

I think she always looks very good in red.

  5. L says:

Yay Frederick and Mary! LOVE them. They are awesome.

According to some other tabs, Kate and Will are going to Africa in a few months.

  6. gee says:

That coat (and Waity) is beautiful, but she looks too thin and a little tired.

  7. inthekitchen says:

I like the coat and belt (which seems to be a different one than came with the coat, right?). I think she looks good in red – much better than that pale dress from the other night.

But, seriously, her hair. Not to keep harping on old stories, but I think it’s definitely a weave of some sort because the volume is just way too much. I have a TON of hair, volume-wise, so I understand, but her style is like a high school girl’s hair. It’s just too much IMO. And the barrel curls on the ends bug. I think Mary’s hair looks much better – it’s still down but out of her face and she doesn’t have to constantly play with it. I think she’d look miles better and more sophisticated with about 5 inches cut off and then styled in ways where she doesn’t have to constantly touch it.

With regard to the trip, it seems like a nice photo op. But that’s really all. It seemed like they spent more time at lunch with M&F (reportedly 2 hours) than they did at the UNICEF depot. And, OMG – did you watch the video of their interview? Wills’ face when Kate is speaking is hilarious. He looks SO nervous! Funny.

My real question though is was that belt made for a child?? She’s got the tiniest waist, but she’s only got it on the second hole. Who on earth would be able to wear it on the last hole?

  8. GoodCapon says:

    She looks cheap as usual.

By the way, here is the interview:
    http://royallovestory.tumblr.com/post/12249819196/ifkatecan-here-is-the-full-interview-for

Useless Kate sounds so nervous, like she’s going to cry. At least the fake posh accent is nowhere to be found.

  9. bigchili says:

    I LOVE that coat.

  10. Beatrice says:

Great coat. As usual she looks 10 years older than she is, but so does William.

  11. Gabbo says:

She needs to tone down the make -up a little. It ages her. She’s starting to look like a pantomine dame.

  12. Brittany says:

    She looks old.

  13. Maritza says:

Nice boots! She looks great in red.

  14. Cleo says:

I can’t believe JWoww did a public appearance in Fargo, North Dakota! I don’t think these celebrities are in it for the money and that includes the Allied Royals.

  15. Jackie says:

wow. she has aged about 10 years! she looks really tired. i’m starting to feel sorry for her (ugh).

chicca is thinking ‘be careful what you wish for’.

  16. INeedANap says:

Just watched the interview. Holy cats! While William is a great public speaker — he is eloquent and sincere without sounding like he’s speechifying or trying too hard — Waity sounds nervous and vacuous.

I get the nervousness; even though they’ve been together for a decade the media has never really asked her opinions before.

But the vacuousness will never go away. Where an intelligent, interesting woman would improve her speaking skills greatly in a short time, Waity will only get marginally better and plateau quickly.

  17. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

She’s no lindsay lohan that’s for sure, very classy lady – the coat looks lovely.

  18. El Kiddo says:

The coat is gorgeous and the color looks great on her. But it looks like the coat is wearing her not the other way round.

  19. tmbg says:

She looks nice. I like the coat, especially paired with the boots.

While she sounded nervous in the interview (understandable, from my point of view), Prince Frederik came off as a huge assclown for just cutting off his wife and not even letting her speak.

  20. just a patsy says:

Oh I hate this coat. It would be alright without that awful 70s nightmare belt. I detest the belt.

Kate should take hair and makeup advice from the other Princess in the first photo. I love her half updo and her understated makeup – very regal, very elegant. Those two ladies really resemble each other, however Kate looks like the hot mess younger sister with bad style (but that’s Pippa’s signature look!)

  21. Jessica says:

OK I like the coat and the belt but has anyone looked at her waist line compared to Princess Mary? There’s a BIG difference and I don’t mean that in a good way; Princess Mary obviously isn’t an obese women in the slightest and yet compared to Duchess Kate, Mary looks fuller”. I totally agree that she looks nice in red, but I want to feed her a sandwich or two just so she can fill out the coat better. Plus she is less likely to become pregnant if she’s so tiny. I mean obviously it can happen, but women with smaller frames or who diet too much tend to have problems with getting pregnant.

  22. Rianic says:

Both Princess Mary and Princess Marie are gorgeous. I think Duchess Kate could learn a lot about modern royal style from them – and I’ve always been team Kate!

  23. Nicole says:

God…she’s got a huge case of the “80’s” – the hair, the make-up, the blah clothes. Couldn’t she try to be a little more modern?

  24. CG says:

I hate that belt! It screams “cowboy hoedown.”

  25. Anonymous says:

Crown Princess Mary is gorgeous and so sophisticated-looking.

  26. La Tanguerita says:

horrible coat, the length is all wrong and don’t even start me on this belt. She looks old and tired.

  27. Jackson says:

Not really gorgeous or meh. Just fine. Generic. Middle-of-the-road. Pretty much what I expect from her. And I see she is back on the Sharpie eyeliner bandwagon. Ugh.

  28. TrollyDolly says:

@GoodCapon No 8: Fake posh accent? Cheap?

    Bit of begrudgery there perhaps?

  29. Azurea says:

Maybe she looks so thin & tired because she’s in early pregnancy & feeling sick!
I was so sick that I lost 12 lbs in the first 6 weeks (and I only weighed 117 to begin with.)

  30. ladybert62 says:

That girl knows how to dress!

    Love the coat!
    Love the belt!
    Love the hair!
    Love the eyeliner!
    Love the smile!

Who is that balding guy with her? ha ha – all eyes go to her and not him!!

  31. SamiHami says:

She is just beautiful. Love her coat, love her hair.

  32. Kar says:

I think Kate looks really beautiful (especially her eyes!) and enchanting from a distance, but up close she looks oldish and tired. And plain.. She still doesn’t usually speak to the media at these sorts of events I think, so it’s understandable if she’s nervous… William has been doing this his whole life.

And OMG @ the Danish prince for cutting Mary off like that… So awkward. SO AWKWARD.

  33. The Original Mia says:

The coat is gorgeous, but that’s about it. This was a photo-op and nothing else.

When asked to sample the peanut paste sent to the starving, everyone tasted it, except Duchess Dolittle. I’m sure once this is mentioned a few times, the Palace will release a statement saying she has a peanut allergy. Which…I guess is possible, but wasn’t the wedding cake a fruit cake with nuts?

  34. GoodCapon says:

    @28 TrollyDolly –

Oh no, not at all – I was just stating the facts. Consider comparing her accents in the engagement interview to her pre-engagement and the interview here, you will notice the difference.

And this woman has always looked cheap. She has never dressed in a way that flatters her and manages to make everything she wears look… well, cheap. And tacky. She simply has no “it” factor contrary to what her sycophants say.

  35. Sunny says:

@ The Original Mia—pregnant women typically shy away from food containing peanuts of any kind.

  36. AcornPaste says:

    Original Mia #33 –

‘I’m sure once this is mentioned a few times, the Palace will release a statement saying she has a peanut allergy.’

Or they’ll say she’s PREGNANT! Anyway declining to taste the paste was a bit rude.

  37. blonde on the dock says:

She looks great in that color! Always classy.

  38. NeoCleo says:

She looks good in red but she has such a boring style. Much of what she wears looks like it is off the rack from Macy’s. And not even their interesting stuff.

  39. L says:

Listened to that interview-I don’t think Frederick meant to cut Mary off. The question was directed at him-if anything there was a miscommunication. No more awkard that anytime there’s a press corp interview.

  40. Nanea says:

    @ # 21 – Jessica:

Princess Mary has had four kids, and you think she looks bad.

Maybe you should never have kids then.

  41. Alexis says:

THE COAT. I love it, and it really suits her coloring.

That being said I really do think she has some weave in there, something looks weave-y about this style. When people called her out for wearing some weave last week and there was an official announcement saying that that one line was a scar, not weave I thought: I think the lady doth protest too much…

Also, why do they both look like they’re in their late 30s or early 40s? They’re not unattractive, but they really look much older than they are. It’s not like they should be stressing out, and I don’t think they were ever abusers of drugs or alcohol. Jeez.

  42. Hyo says:

They all look boring, and totally bored, at the event. William and Kate only win out because they look more charismatic and have more presence than the Clown–I mean, Crown Prince couple of Denmark.

Kate in that small, short interview is just pitiful. Girl looks lost and nervous as heck. She can’t think on the spot and has nothing meaningful to say. Kinda sad for a 30-year old woman to not even be able to string a coherent, intelligent sentence together.

Compare her nervousness on being on camera and being asked questions to the confidence of the new Queen of Bhutan interacting with the Prime Minister of India. And the Queen of Bhutan is only 21 years old.

Kate looks like a child with her hair in curls, her tiny voice, and shrinking away from any questions about the famine. It’s so obvious she doesn’t have a vested interest in UNICEF. If she did, she would have researched it better and said something smarter.

And how about Kate going over to Copenhagen and talking about how the British should “dig deep” and do more for the famine in Africa? Just laughable. A lazy, do-nothing royal who has never worked a serious day in her life and always depended on her parents’ money, is telling other people to give more that what they’re already doing.

What has Kate done lately for any charity? What has she ever done for any charity that doesn’t involve dressing up and attending parties? Nothing. So for her to go tell people to donate more and do more is ridiculous.

This trip is such a PR attempt to deflect from the questions about Kate’s activities and charitable interests.

Many British celebrities have done their part to appeal to the public about the famine in Africa. People are already doing what they can. William and Kate are not really needed in this regard.

William and Kate going over to Copenhagen is just so odd. They could have done the same thing in Britain. But hey, it’s a better story if it’s a “collaboration” between 2 countries, right?

    Here’s their schedule yesterday:
    – They had a 2-hour gourmet lunch at the Palace courtesy of the equally lazy Frederik and Mary of Denmark. Yes, they’re just as lazy as Kate. Look at Mary and Frederik’s schedule compared to other royals. Their calendars look so empty compared to Felipe and Letizia of Spain, or Willem-Alexander and Maxima of the Netherlands.

    – “Packing” a box for UNICEF. If you can call putting 5 things in a box ‘packing’. They only stayed at the UNICEF center for 2 hours.

    – William and Kate “watched” the boxes being loaded into an airplane. It’s so, so difficult standing there in that red coat, those suede boots, in the cold weather watching other people work, you know.

  43. blouson says:

Crown Princess Mary looks amazing. Kate not so much.

  44. Poppy says:

Kate and Mary look the same age, a bit sad for Kate considering Mary is 10yrs older than her and has 4 children.

  45. Anguishedcorn says:

Red is a great color on her, but I agree that she looks old and tired, and needs to lay off the makeup.

  46. benny says:

Kate looks 50 years old. Then she opens her mouth and speaks like an immature teenager. Very weird combination of physically old + mentally immature.

Mary, on the other hand, looks amazing. But still not on the same level as Crown Princess Victoria.

  47. UKHels says:

    meh – she’s always meh

and she looks rough – needs to put on 10lbs

  48. sosuzy says:

She is too thin…it is taking away from her beauty…

  49. Kelly says:

She’s just blah, blah personality, blah looks, blah.

  50. Jaxx says:

    I vote gorgeous. Great boots.

  51. Nymeria says:

In the first photo, Duchess Dude is the only one staring into the camera. Hee hee.

  52. Hmmm says:

In the first pic the rest are looking elsewhere while Waity is looking at the camera. I rest my case.

  53. iseepinkelefants says:

GoodCapon – I hate that posh accent. She sounds more posh than William (how?) and he comes from bloody Royalty! Try hard.

No one else noticed she brought those hideous boots back? The ones she wore for 9 (or whatever) years straight, even in the summer? Seriously she used to only own two pairs of shoes, which were those hideous boots in black and brown. That’s what made me think the British press grossly inflated her parents worth. No girl owns only 2 pairs of shoes on purpose.

  54. Team Six says:

    Meh

  55. @hmmm says:

how many cameras do you think were there that day? I’m sure there are many others with them all looking at the same camera! get over yourself!
