Tilda Swinton in white at the AFI Fest: angelic alien and Oscar contender?

wenn3602632

I just realized something disturbing: Tilda Swinton has the same haircut as the second boy who ever kissed me. She has a skater boy’s haircut circa 1991. Anyway, these are photos of Tilda at last night’s AFI Fest premiere of We Need To Talk About Kevin. The dress is probably Haider Ackermann, just because Tilda always wears Haider. I find the outfit to be kind of meh… but for some reason, Tilda does manage to look angelic. If Hollywood ever needs her to play an angel (again), they should definitely put her in all-white and just let her alien self glow through.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing We Need To Talk About Kevin, but I doubt it will come to my little conservative megaplex. The film isn’t getting released until the beginning of December, and even then, it’s a limited, NYC and LA release. This one is probably a rental for me, which sucks because I think Tilda is probably going to get nominated for Best Actress this year.

This is just incidental by the way, but has anyone else noticed that the Oscar campaigns seem really dull and quiet this year? By November, usually there are several big contenders for the lead actor and actress Oscars, but I was just thinking the other day that I barely have an idea of who will be getting nominated for what. I’m guessing Tilda… and who else for Best Actress? Er… As for Best Actor, who do we have so far? Michael Fassbender for Shame, Brad Pitt (maybe) for Moneyball and…? I’m telling you, this is a weird year. By this time last year, I already knew that Colin Firth was a major Oscar contender for The King’s Speech.

Oh my god, YES! My first kiss also had this haircut. The Tony Hawk. I still actually think it’s pretty hot.

  2. Kaboom says:

Looks like a cross between Kimono and Trenchcoat.

  3. constance says:

    She is incredibly handsome.

That movie looks incredibly intense. I can’t wait to rent it.

  4. Ari says:

I am wondering if Clooney will get his The Descendents in time for the Oscars. I have a feeling he might be a contender too, or is it too late?

  5. Princess Lizabeth says:

I love Tilda. The dress looks like a bathrobe, but somehow it still looks good.

    Shine on, Tilda.

  6. Eve says:

Ah, the Oscar race. The reason there is less buzz right now is because most of the films that will be considered don’t come out until the holiday season. At that point The Iron Lady, J Edgar, My Week with Marilyn, Albert Knobbs, The Artist, Take Shelter, The Descendants, We Bought a Zoo, In the Land of Blood and Honey, Young Adult and Carnage will have been released and all are possible Oscar contenders. Not to mention more commercial films like The Help, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Ides of March, etc.

Soon, very soon, the Oscar onslaught will be upon us.

I can’t wait to see who wins Best Actress this year because Tilda, Meryl, Glenn, Michelle, Elizabeth are all probably going to be up for it. That’s a more exciting and confusing list than we have had recently.

    And nerdy film time. Done.

  7. Blankverse says:

I want her skin! She is 51 years old and looks incredible. Love her work, style and talent. I wish she would go back to the darker/redder hair she had in past, as this blond looks a bit too brassy, but otherwise she looks great.

  8. Fan says:

she looks a lot like David Bowie when he was young and sexy LOL

  9. carrie says:

@eve:you’re right and it’s interesting because of the lack of consensus
in december last year, every one yet knew Firth,Portman, Bale and Leo were the winner

actually, for the men,it’s Pitt,Clooney,Dujardin,Fassbender,Oldman,Harrelson and Dicaprio and for the women,Williams,Theron,Close and others
    it’s very open

  10. AZ says:

Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy 🙂

  11. Jaime says:

    I will say it again:

    Find mascara and the sun!

  12. Calli P says:

This is bad on her. She’s quite thin, and the dress just looks two sizes too large, but I loves me some Tilda. Cannot wait to see this film.

  13. Eve says:

    @AZ

I can’t believe I forgot to mention that. Mmmmm Gary Oldman. So oddly hot.

Just like Tilda! Who doesn’t need a tan or mascara by the way. The woman is herself and damn beautiful. You want tans and makeup go look at the VS show. Plenty there to satisfy.

  14. Chera says:

If you haven’t read the book yet, read it! I could not put it down.

  15. NeoCleo says:

Tilda IS an alien and I LOVE her!!

I am really looking forward to seeing her and the rest of the cast in “We need to talk about Kevin.”

  16. SCREEEE says:

I will never get over bumping into her at Gatwick airport on my way home from university. She walked past me and I was all ‘uh… wait WHAT?’ and then my brain stopped working and I for real just followed her into a Sushi place. I got all stammery and ‘I love your work… mumble… Beach… Witch… I…’ and she just stared INTO MY SOUL with those eyes and said thank you and I left. It was right after she won her Oscar and she had a really nice handbag. Something expensive probably, but I’m a guy, so I couldn’t tell you what. I love her.

  17. Nanea says:

    SWINTON!

With that out of the way, I haven’t really cared about the Oscars at all so far. Maybe it’ll change now that Ratner and Murphy are out.

  18. Ranga says:

Bish stole my look, I have that exact haircut, but in red. I’m kinda chuffed actually.

  19. SamiHami says:

She is trying way to hard to come across as oh-so-cool, look at me, I’m an artiste. Overrated actress and just not attractive at all.

It doesn’t matter who wins at the Oscars; they are meaningless. They might regain some credibility if they revoke the one they gave Michael Moore for his “documentary,” which was later found to be scripted and falsified information.

  20. SCREEEE says:

@Kunst: remove that ‘s’ from your name, maybe? I don’t even have time to address all the grossness in your short post.

@SamiHami: I think some people just are as they are, and don’t really give a shit about public opinion – whether positive (me) or negative. I don’t think she’s trying very hard, or she might be tanning, extensioning and going for whatever else people seem to enjoy. As for the Oscars… yeah, they don’t mean much.

  21. Lindy says:

She is totally an angelic alien and I love her. Orlando remains one of my all-time favorite films. And if she wants to show up on the red carpet in a bathrobe–well, she’s Swinton. She can do it.
