Amy Adams: “Since having Aviana, I have a muffin top, and that’s okay”

Amy Adams covers the new issue of InStyle Magazine, all to promote her role in The Muppets. I know many of you find Amy to be rather blah, and she is – she’s actively boring and she’s not really a famewhore, although there have been more photos of her with her daughter Aviana recently, which makes me think she might be taking notes from Jennifer Garner’s Dimple Parade. Basically, my mother loves her. I think Amy is probably a favorite amongst moms. She seems “real” – she hasn’t lost all of the pregnancy weight, she seems vulnerable and honest, she isn’t putting herself out there as some Goop-style elitism expert. You could see yourself belonging to the same gym as Amy. You could see making small talk with her in an elevator. She seems grounded. Anyway, here are some highlights from Amy’s InStyle interview:

Balancing her career, her engagement and motherood: “I have to trust that I can prioritize my family and myself while still finding the energy and focus for my work. And I believe I can. I know I can.”

Losing the pregnancy weight: “I read about these actresses who get on a stationary bike two weeks after giving birth and I’m like, ‘What? Where did you push your baby out of?’ Since having Aviana, I have a muffin top, and that’s okay right now.”

Motherhood: For Adams, motherhood has meant forgoing the makeup, putting off the pampering, and embracing the dried cereal all over her car. Fortunately, she adds, it has all paid off in the long run. “I’m definitely not one of those women who make it look easy. I’m always running late — and look, there’s guacamole on my purse! But I’m more patient than I ever thought I would be, and I’m not so hard on myself anymore.”

She will marry Darren Le Gallo: They have yet to tie the knot, the couple — who divide household duties between themselves; Adams does laundry while he washes bottles — admit the nuptials are likely to be sooner rather than later. “I’ll say to Darren, ‘What do you think of May?’ and he’ll say, ‘May. Ha, ha. You just let me know.’ I just can’t decide!” she laughs, despite her opinion that marriage is not “the only way to sustain a relationship. I am putting more pressure on myself now that we have Avi. I’ll figure it out soon.”

Date nights: “[They include] a lot of food and maybe a glass of wine,” she reveals. “We’re always like, ‘It’s 11:30! Woo-hoo! We’re crazy!’”

Defining herself: “There’s danger in defining your identity. I accept that life is a series of transitions. You think you know who you are, but then something comes along to make you question everything.”

Keeping clothes from her movies: “I do have a pair of gorgeous Christian Louboutins that I wore in Leap Year. They’re stored in their little dust covers in a box in my closet.”

[From People & Celebrity Gossip]

She probably also kept her nun’s habit from Doubt, just because it comes in handy with her squeaky-clean image. One of my favorite quotes from Amy was (I’m paraphrasing) something about how people are always stunned when she utters a curse word. She really is like a Disney princess. Oh, and I love that she talks about her muffin top. She’s adorable.

If that’s a muffin top, I’ve got a complete muffin universe above my waist.

  2. jules says:

that cover pic doesn’t look anything like her, i never would have guessed that as amy adams… the rest of the pics are great

” I accept that life is a series of transitions. You think you know who you are, but then something comes along to make you question everything.”

Very insightful. I’m a fan now. Although, I see no trace of a muffin top. So it makes me wonder if she’s just saying that to appear more relatable.

    @sweetpea, LMAO!

  4. Dolkite says:

You know, some of us guys prefer a muffin top on a pretty girl.

  5. ladybert62 says:

I suppose it all depends on how one defines “muffin top” but from those pictures of her, my muffin top is more like an entire baker’s dozen of muffins!

She does seem real and wholesome – a breath of fresh air!

  6. Jessica says:

    awww… sweetpea… I know what you mean….. so do I!!

  7. Trek Girl says:

The cover picture looks like Amy to me.

She’s not wearing the kind of clothes that would show a muffin-top in these pictures, so of course you can’t see it.

  8. Lisa says:

She won me over in “The Wedding Crashers.” I think she’s sweet.

  9. Anna says:

Not sure if she still has a muffin top since she did this interview a few weeks ago but I definitely saw her muffin top a few months ago. I’m sure she worked it off by now.

I adore Amy Adams. I love her style and the fact that she looks SUPER young when she’s pushing 40 and hasn’t had any work done. She’s a year older than Kate Winslet but looks YEARS younger than her.

  10. neelyo says:

@ Lisa, that was Isla Fisher in THE WEDDING CRASHERS. I love Fischer, not so much Adams.

  11. Moneypenny says:

@Lisa, that wasn’t Amy Adams, that was Isla Fisher.

Amy looks great in these pictures.

  12. Anna says:

@ Lisa, that was Isla Fisher

  13. Denise says:

What muffin top? If that is muffin top then I have an entire bakery around my waist. Puhlease!

  14. kieslowski says:

I really like her as an actress, she is very talented, she was also great in The Fighter.

  15. lucy2 says:

I like Amy (and Isla Fisher too). She seems pretty down to earth and I think she’s a good actress.

  16. really says:

What a lovely and PRETTY girl!

  17. Reece says:

    lol @ sweetpea
Methinks she is spanx-ed in the muppet pics so that all would be smooth.

  18. Orange Cone says:

I finally just saw Leap Year… So cute- I like Amy

  19. Quest says:

Muffin top, really? Where? I adore Amy, but she is a far cry from being a baked bread type

  20. jen says:

I’m due in March & have actually lost my muffin top because I’m not boozing LOL.

  21. miss_bhaven says:

Classy, beautiful and TALENTED….traits that are lacking in HW these days. Very refreshing.

  22. Larissa says:

Muffin top is not just fat rolls,it is basically that line created post pregnancy on the grounds of the lower belly that took the whole weight of the pragnancy, which is created basically by left over skin and “lose” abdominal muscle, many women post pregnancy are able to lose the pregnancy weight but no the muffin top.
    http://soulation.org/jonalynblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/post-pregnancy-belly.jpg
But you can easily “hide” it , so that is why we dont see it on pictures.
I have got one and was very much distressed about it , but know I totally got over it!

  23. Smitten says:

    @ Lisa:

Amy Adams wasn’t in Wedding Crashers, that was Isla Fisher who is married to Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat). They look a lot alike.

  24. Jackie says:

being in a muppet movie is not going to help with her vanilla, boring image.

she has such a pretty face and has done a few good movies, but i find her so utterly forgettable.

  25. mary simon says:

    loved her in The Fighter.

  26. Tiffany says:

I don’t really like the trend of sites bashing celebs because the are “boring”. The idea that you would encourage someone to be a dangerous mess or a fame ho is soooooo awful to me. Lame people can be found anywhere, why are they worth anyone’s attention? We certainly don’t need more Lohans or Kardashians being shoved down our throats.

  27. lrm says:

but, boring or not, amy adams is SO good in nearly every movie she is in. c’mon-she is watchable-i always lose myself in her characters, even if the movies themselves are not the best. I like her, and she is beautiful, naturally.

  28. Ari says:

My favorite movie (well one) is Enchanted and I will sing EVERY SONG whenever it comes on and not be ashamed.

  29. Isa says:

It took me a while to tell the difference between her and Isla Fischer.
The cover picture doesn’t even look like her though.
I know what she means about a muffin top. Since having my second baby almost three months ago everything’s changed. My belly is flat, but still squishy. The size I need for my waist means the legs are baggy. Frustrating.

  30. Great…I thought my ass gettin’ fat was my biggest worry. And now *muffin tops*.Oh,where does it end??

  31. Carolyn says:

I’d like to see Kermie & Miss Piggy on the cover of Instyle instead. Miss Piggy would have a bakers dozen of incredibly witty quotable quotes. Muppet Movie PR team you’ve been caught napping.

  32. Scarlet Vixen says:

“Date nights: “[They include] a lot of food and maybe a glass of wine,” she reveals. “We’re always like, ‘It’s 11:30! Woo-hoo! We’re crazy!’”

This sentence alone makes me like her. Because I’m totally the same way after having my second baby. If I have a glass of wine (which is all I need to get tipsy now that my tolerance is so low) and don’t fall asleep on the couch by 11pm it’s a good night. I used to be cool once! I used to drink men under the table and smoke and party til dawn! And now, one glass of wine and maybe sex–if I’ve had the time to shave my legs. 😉

  33. Sassy says:

Check out “June Bug” on Netflix. She was great in this indie flick. I think it is the film that got her noticed. I believe she won an award.

  34. carrie says:

she’s not a princess in JUNEBUG and THE FIGHTER ans she’s very good (and even more than good)

  35. sandy#1 says:

oh i like her in leap year, i have not seen her in anything else, yet.

  36. Julie says:

    like her….

  37. ol cranky says:

“I read about these actresses who get on a stationary bike two weeks after giving birth and I’m like, ‘What? Where did you push your baby out of?’

how can anyone not love her for that statement?

isn’t she the one whose brother works (or worked) for TMZ? maybe she’d rather be boring than be covered as a celebutard type

  38. ferst says:

God, the cover. That’s some horrible photoshop happening right there. She’s a pretty woman, why is the extreme need to photoshop her to hell?

  39. dahlia1947 says:

These are only little clips of this interview. On Leno last night she came off as kind of stuck up and arrogant.

When she came out, she tripped on the way to her chair, which was pretty funny because she had this conceited air about her and then she started speaking which is when it was finally confirmed. See above.

  40. Megan says:

I love her Muppets premier look. Fabulous.

  41. JT says:

I loved her in Sunshine Cleaning. She’s such a cutie and super talented. You can’t really tell if a person has a muffin top while their standing (unless they’re wearing something too small) and you definitely can’t tell when their all spanxed up and squeezed into a tight dress.

  42. Sue says:

Magazine cover is photoshopped to the extreme, yikes! Like her and think she has real body. I would take her muffin top any day of the week. Husband is a hottie 🙂

  43. CeeCee says:

if she’s ok with her alleged muffin top, then lose the Spanx and don’t let them photo shop it

  44. TXCinderella says:

I love her! She just seems so real and not buying into the Hollywood scene. Hollywood is not real, and it is refreshing to see an actor that wants to stay grounded and not get all caught up in that make believe world.

  45. aenflex says:

    I LOVE her!

  46. Jules says:

    She looks fabulous.

  47. mel jay says:

She kinda look like Grace Kelly in the 3rd picture, doesn’t she? Love her

  48. Julia says:

Love love love Amy!!!!! but her dress at the Muppets premiere kind of looks like a pokeball, doesn’t it?

  49. Flower says:

I never noticed Adams had any resemblence to Grace Kelly before, probably because of the red hair, but she does a bit. It’s not an exact match (though how many women in the world can claim to be as beautiful as Grace Kelly?), but Adams is lovely and the cheekbones and the jawline are very similar. I think we’d notice it more if her hair was blonde.

  50. Claire78 says:

I love her to pieces. Echanted was the first time I saw her – god I love that movie. She is so talented, wish half of Hollywood had her talent. She will be around for years and years
