Kardashians plan to sue over claims their junk is manufactured in sweat shops

Yesterday we heard that Star Magazine was about to come out with a cover story accusing some of the Kardashian brands, including K-Dash and Shoedazzle, of using slave labor in China to manufacture their products. Star interviewed a couple of spokespeople from human rights organizations who went on the record to say that the Kardashian brands were manufactured in sweatshops. One of the human rights activists interviewed by Star, Charles Kernaghan, called in to TMZ Live yesterday. He clarified his comments and said that Star took his quotes out of context. Kernaghan admitted that he hasn’t personally seen the factory where the Kardashian Krap is made. He said they were just starting their investigation and trying to figure out where exactly the goods were made, and that it was merely in a region of China known for atrocious working conditions. He told TMZ “We are very suspicious the garments could be made under decent conditions. It doesn’t work like that in China.” So Star called this guy up, got some quotes and ran with this story.

For their part the Kardashians issued a statement through their spokesperson saying they’d never heard these claims and that they were taking them “very seriously.” Their rep told RadarThis is the first we are hearing about it and take it very seriously as we would never condone this. We are presently investigating the situation.” Meanwhile Kris is probably going to sue over that story:

The Kardashian family is preparing for war — gearing up to unleash a legal attack on everyone who claimed their clothing line is manufactured in child slave labor sweat shops in China … TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the family tell us … Kris Jenner is furious — claiming the guy who runs the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights had no right to accuse the Kardashian brands of wrongdoing because he has no tangible proof to back up his claims.

Kris must have seen I.G.L.H.R. honcho Charles Kernaghan on “TMZ Live” Wednesday — when he flat out admitted he didn’t actually go to the factories in question … and is making the ASSUMPTION based on years of research on the Chinese manufacturing industry.

Jenner also believes Star Magazine’s cover — which screamed “Kardashian Sweatshop Scandal” — was not only unfair … but libelous … and it should have to pay for any damage that has been caused to the brand’s reputation.

As TMZ previously reported, Kris — along with one of their manufacturing companies — adamantly deny the use of child slave labor in their factories … insisting they have people who are constantly patrolling for any possible violations.

[From TMZ]

I’m so sure the Kardashians are super concerned about labor violations in factories and have people out there all the time. I do agree with Kaiser’s story yesterday, however. I think that this is a widespread problem among goods manufactured overseas, and that it’s not fair to just point a finger at the stupid Kardashians and whatever krap they’re slapping their name on this month. Cheap consumer goods means cheap labor, which means that people get exploited. It’s wrong and it should be stopped. I don’t expect the Kardashians to make it a priority, though, other than a PR one.

Really, really tired of those people.

  2. Blue says:

I doubt they’ll sue because they probably have no clue what is going on over there and will have to prove nothing shady is happening ( there probably is) They will maybe make a trip to China, pose for a few photo-ops with “happy workers” and call it a day.

    • Agnes says:

Totally agree. And the comments saying “everyone is doing it, so it’s not fair to point the finger at the Kardassians”? The only people to whom this isn’t fair are the workers in both china (obvious reasons) and the US (krap kompanies moving their ops overseas for obvious reasons).

  3. becky says:

If they don’t use sweatshop labor, they have to share the secret of how they do it so every other company can stay competitive without doing the same. Riiight?
Now lets pick on them for the shit they’re uniquely hated for. like kim’s personality.

  4. Tiffany says:

Just do it! Sue all these liars/haters. What were they thinking? How could they accuse K Klan? They didn’t do anything wrong. Haters deserve all the worst. Be strong and never give up K Klan!!!

    • MerryHappy says:

Yeah! F*ck those subjugated workers in china, they’re ruining the kardashians reputation! Bitch please. Human rights and appropriate labor practices far outweight the need for the rich to get richer. I sincerely hope youre joking

  5. Blue says:

Also Kris should sue her dumbass daughter for ruining their “brand” I love how a few months ago everyone was kissing Kardasian ass and now everyone is just piling in with the bad press. 🙂

  6. tinyour says:

@Tiffany, wow I did not know they taught chimps to type!

    • lisa says:

I think the comment was tongue in cheek.. I could be wrong.
      *************

If they are going to sue they should just do it quietly. All these big announcements then NOTHING.. see Ashton and countless others. People that mean it just do it and then you hear about it

      • the original bellaluna says:

See Becks and NOTW (or was it The Sun?) as an example of those who “just do it.” (Your comment hadn’t posted yet when I wrote mine down below. Great minds – and names – and all that.) 😉

      • The Bobster says:

Some people don’t recognize sarcasm when they see it. 😉

  7. lucy2 says:

Is it wrong of me to take pleasure in watching the tabloids, the very ones they used to help get famous, turn on them?

  8. bee says:

Star Magazine ran a bogus story. Now the person making these claims said he has never been to the factory making the Kardashian products.

  9. Lisa says:

Basically EVERTHING we wear…use…buy is made from workers who are exploited…the level of explotation varies…

There are regions in the world who are notrious for pushing the explotation line to the uber limit…locking workers in the factories…you know what…I can’t go there right now…

There is NO WAY Kris is going to sue regarding this…that would mean discovery and disclosure…NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!

  10. the original bellaluna says:

Sure. Like Asston sued those tabs for publishing his cheating.

  11. the original bellaluna says:

The only thing the Kartrashian Klan is koncerned with is how this will effect their bottom line. (heh-heh)

Pimp Mama NEEDS to sue Lardassian for her katastrophic wedding fiasko. THAT damaged their bottom line w-a-y more than this bit of knowledge will.

    • ahoyhoy says:

The wedding fiasco is EXACTLY why the public has turned on them, and the tabs only print what sells. A year or so ago, their ‘fans’ would have set fire to any tabloid that went so negative on them, but because of the wedding, tabs know the public now only want to hear negative stories about the K’s, so that’s what we get.
      Finally!

  12. Sillyone says:

What else do they have left besides to sue? I mean they can’t release a sex tape and be urinated on to exploit themselves, hell we have already seen that (or I was told I didn’t see it myself) Yucky..

  13. atlantapug says:

You know all that cheap shit you buy in stores???? The little plastic piles of crap? The $1 wrapping paper, $5 xmas lights, knick knacks…. etc???

ALL of it is made with underpaid, possibly child labor in CHINA. Duh.

I always see all that itty bitty cheap shit and think the Chinese are laughing their assess off over what Americans will spend a buck on.

  14. Bob says:

Can I sue the Kardashians for polluting the world with all their bullshit?? Everyday it’s something with these roaches.

  15. Dawn says:

Yeah, yeah and yeah what nonsense this excuse of a woman continues to try and sell. Always threatening to sue when the truth comes out and then doing nothing. What a bunch of trash. But go ahead Kris, go ahead and piss off the NE and other magazines, make them really dig for the dirt that is oh so close to the top anyway. You and your family belong in the dictionary next to UGLY because that is what you people are on the inside as well as the outside. I give 9 big YUKS to them and 3 million YUKS to their so called fans that keep them going. Just stop the craziness people and turn off the UGLY.

  16. Kendall says:

Didn’t someone call this yesterday? I’m sure they did. This family…I can’t. Can they just go away yet?

  17. Violet's Roses says:

Seriously? Come on now. It’s made in China, the land of lack of human rights. And slavery in sweatshops. You think that things made there are made under normal American conditions? Call out the Kardashians but also call out everyone else who manufactures in that h**l hole of a country.

  18. anne_000 says:

It would have been so much better for their PR if they could have said all their stuff was “Made In The USA.”

IIRC, a poster said yesterday that the Olsen twins make their stuff in the US, but they have to charge higher-end prices. This doesn’t necessarily have to be so. You can still make affordable products in the US AND be profitable.

This kind of reminds me of their credit card scandal. Didn’t they make money by charging users loads of supposedly hidden fees? Then when it got exposed, they dropped out saying they had no idea? Did they ever give back any of the money they made off of this particular venture?

    • MissVJJ says:

Believe it or not.. *sigh*.. There is an actual city in China named USA. I couldnt fathom why…. :-/

  19. Victoria says:

who cares if it’s a “bogus” story. Their shit is made over seas and it is true because it’s true for just about everything that is made outside of this country and in developing countries.

It sounds to me like someone got threatened.

    Anyway, Ebay is your friend!

  20. truthful says:

hmmm, this trashy family didn’t sue when Star would print “Kim shopping wedding dresses, Reggie will propose ANY day now”

STILL waiting on Kim to sue the rapper that said they had a sexual relationship..

YUP!, they are slowly going downnn

KK petition is up to 350,000 votes, a 100,000 over night.

    A waste of space

next is their sears line, since its not doing good, CAN it. this trashy family does not represent “women” and what we want..a bunch of tight overpiced sequined outfits.

Kris has sent a few flunkies, to sweep up and put up a makeshift bathroom in China and thinks its ok.
As longggg as the money doesn’t stop.

  21. Kim says:

They are only acting as if they care because it became public. You know damn well they could care less where their products are being made as long as they are getting paid.

This family is such a bunch of unmoralistic whores.

  22. Me says:

For heaven’s sake, eat some burgers kourtney!

  23. skuddles says:

Oh course they’ll sue… any opportunity to make money, regardless of how skeevy. They will never veer from type.

  24. Kimberly says:

Kris Jenner is the worst manager and mom EVER!

I’d rather have Dina Lohan as a mom, at least she’d leave me the hell alone!!!

That old bitch is trying to live through her daughters . . . sad.

  25. I’d like to sue the kardashions…for almost disgusting me to death.

  26. Tweakspotter says:

Oh so the “everybody else is doing it” excuse?? Precisely what is wrong with the country today in a nutshell.

  27. Firecracker says:

Will these famewhores just shut up for once? Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  28. Jordan says:

Isn’t Keeping Up With the Kardashians basically a sweatshop? Kris Jenner uses it to train all her children to become the best whores in Hollywood. I wonder when the Jenner girls will be debuting their sex tapes.

  29. JudyK says:

Kris, SHUT UP, stay out of the news, and quit trying to manipulate and control every situation. We are SICK OF YOU.

  30. Callumna says:

Their good name is at stake.

P-rn and month and half marriages and divorces can’t be sullied.

  31. Feebee says:

I seriously doubt they know anything that detailed about their “business”.

  32. JaneWonderfalls says:

How can you sue over something that is true. Whether or not they may have personally known, many clothing companies pay under wage money to children or women in “sweat shops”. I don’t get this family? It seems the more backlash the more they seek the limelight!
