The ladies of comedy: Zooey Deschanel, Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

Bridesmaids was up for a couple of awards last night: Motion Picture, Comedy, which went to The Artist (did you see the dog from The Artist on the red carpet? adorable!) and Best Actress in a Motion Picture for Kristen Wiig, which went to Michelle Williams. We’ve heard that there might be some kind of sequel in the works without Kristen Wiig, who has been working on another project. Melissa McCarthy told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet last night that she wouldn’t want to do another Bridesmaids without Kristen, though. (We don’t have photos of Wiig’s fug look, you can see them here.) Melissa may have just been paying it lip service but I think she was genuine and that if there is something in the works it’s in the very early stages and they’re still hoping to get Wiig on board.

Last night McCarthy wore this emerald Badgley Mischka which is doing something strange to her boobs. From some angles it looks like they’re sitting on a shelf. The dress looked a lot prettier on screen, though, and I’m so glad she opted for something with a jeweled neckline instead of going for sequins as she’s done so often this season.

Zooey Deschanel killed it in this gorgeous custom made Prada. I loved this dress so much and thought it was so striking. Zooey’s makeup was way overdone and her hair looked so fake and like it was hanging in her eyes. I wish she would have gone for simpler styling. Look at how cute she is posing with her sister Emily! I think Emily’s dress is a little fussy and I’m not liking the black shoes paired with the cobalt blue dress. She just had a baby less than four months ago. Zooey was up for best actress in a comedy TV series for “New Girl,” which went to Laura Dern.

Also up for best actress in a comedy was Tina Fey for “30 Rock.” Fey was characteristically cute and I love that she opted for a bright jewel tone instead of going for black as usual. She was in a tight Oscar de la Renta gown with a flared feather hemline. The dress wasn’t amazing, but Tina looked great.

Tina’s BFF Amy Poehler, nominated in the same category, looked a little washed out. She was wearing one of the more popular gown colors last night, a pale champagne shadPoehler was in Naeem Khan and I find the dress so pretty apart from the color. The subtle beading with clean lines is just so striking. I love Poehler’s cute hair and makeup too. That’s how you curl shorter hair.

Like Amy Poehler, Julie Bowen also suffered from too-light dress syndrome. She had on chiffon Reem Acra gown with a flowing gown and sequin cap sleeves. The sleeves were a little bizarre for me, and I thought her hair was matronly with those stiff curls. She looked lovely despite those minor issues. Her makeup is gorgeous.

Maya Rudolph looked a little underdone, in my opinion, in a v-neck sleeveless matte black gown with a full skirt. Still, I love the pattern on that dress, which is almost snake-like. Her stacked bracelets seem too informal and she could have dressed it up with some jewels. I would love to wear a million dollars worth of diamonds just for one night.

Zooey was wearing a wig yes? no ?

  2. Feebee says:

Love Zooey’s dress, didn’t know what was going on with her hair though… those side pieces were weird.

I though Julie Bowen was going for old Hollywood with the hair so I liked it.

Liked Amy’s dress but colour did wash her out. Like that Maya went more casual as some of the outfits looked too much. Too many mermaid dresses, change it up ladies.

Thought Melissa’s Emmy look was much better, she owned her curves.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Yes, Zooey’s dress is cool. Has she lost wieght? She looks smaller in these pics compared to the (recent) New Girl episodes. Tragic side bangs trauma though.

I think Julie looks gorgeous. The rest though, kind of blah.

    • Gigi says:

I like seeing the Deschanel sisters together. Liked Zooey’s gown, hated her hair, but why the F is Emily wearing a dressing gown?

  3. laylajanelovesgossip says:

I like Tina Fey’s dress, it seems fun:-)

  4. Zelda says:

Zooey Deschenel, your wig is awful.

Also your twee schtick is inappropriate for a woman in her 30s. Blinking and saying precocious things does not an adult personality make.

    Just a coupla things, there.

    • LunaT says:

Ditton on the hair. Bad, bad, bad. Awkward and ugly.

Her schtick is kinda cute but she can’t run it forever, right?

  5. Marianne says:

Melissa McCarthy either needs to hire a stylist, or fire her current one.

I said this last night, but Zooey looked like she had sideburns. it was quite distracting. Dress was kind of meh to me. Her sister looked better.

I thought Julie Bowen looked kind of cute. but maybe it was too cutesy.

I did not like Amy’s. The dress made her look kind of chunky.

Tina looked really good, glad she opted out of something black.

Maya looked really good. I think she was the best out of this bunch.

  6. Sisi says:

did anyone see Tina photobombing (okay, it wasn’t a photo but television) Amy during her nominee presentation?

    Cracked me up!

  7. normades says:

I love Amy’s dress, but not on her.

  8. Ell says:

Melissa was so sweet crying when Octavia Spencer won her Globe.

No matter how successful Melissa becomes as a movie actress she will always been Sookie St James to me (just been rewatching Gilmore Girls for the umpteenth time).

  9. Ela says:

tina fey does not look good, she looks a wreck. her hair is not even brushed and her dress is too much and looks too long for her. the only dress I like on this post is Zoeys but her hair is not the best I agree. the other dresses are a yawnfest.

  10. Redheadwriter says:

Melissa needs to start looking at designers who know how to dress bigger women, like Tadashi Shoji (who did Octavia’s dress).

  11. MSat says:

The best part of the entire night (which was predictable and kind of a snoozefest) was Tina Fey “photobombing” Amy Poehler’s camera cut-away during the Best Actress segment. Hee hee!

  12. Danielle says:

Every dress here is wrong in my opinion. Great colors on Amy’s but wrong for her body/skin tone. Definitely needs a stylist intervention. Maya’s was pretty but too casual for the GGs. Zoeys dress was just…boring. Like bad 90s prom boring.

  13. Tillie says:

I love these women! Bridesmaids was hilarious. I love her energy.

Looking at Amy just makes me happy. She has such a positive, loveable role on Parks and Recreation, you just got to love her!

Julie looks like a princess. She is a beautiful woman, but I love her more in just a pair of jeans in Modern Family. She simply doesn’t need to dress up like a princess (but when she does, she nails it).

  14. HappyMom says:

Poor Maya. She looks exhausted, uncomfortable with her baby weight and like she’s wearing a gown from Nursing Mother’s Catalog.

  15. CG says:

I hate Melissa’s dress. The purple one she wore to the Emmys was great, but this one makes her look huge! And I’m not trying to fat-shame or anything. I just think that this is incredibly unflattering.

  16. Shelly says:

I really thought that Maya’s dress fit and flattered her beautifully. I also love Zooey’s overall look. Yes, the hair did look fake, but I liked the 60s vibe of it.

  17. Shelly says:

Oh, and JULIE BOWEN. OMG. Horrid. On tv that dress appeared one with her flesh.

  18. lucy2 says:

Didn’t care for Melissa’s dress. I like Tina’s except for the fluffy skirt. I liked Zooey’s a lot, but the hair ruined it. Amy’s dress was really pretty, but not terribly flattering for her. I love her though, P&R is my favorite show right now.

  19. Ron says:

Melissa McCarthy’s dress wasn’t bad but her hair and makeup were. It looks like she did her hair herself with a bumpit. Zooey looks amazing one of the best dresses of the night

  20. Kimlee says:

Sorry but some people are just being nice saying McCarthy dress was pretty which it was not is it because she plus size? If her dress was on another person people wouldn’t be so kind.

Love McCarthy but her dress was just bad, boring and looks kind of cheap she has woren better stuff this award season but I loved her hair and make up.

  21. Darla says:

I know Zooey is trying to go for a 60’s vibe. I’m a little split.

  22. LBeees says:

    This is my favorite post!!

How adorable are those sisters? Seriously! They are so blessed in the looks department. I would kill for Emily Deschanel’s coat pr0n from Bones… I definitely emulate that kind of super tailored, well fitted style. But I love Zooey, and am happy to see she cut her hair!

Tina Fey! So glad 30 Rock is back… felt like it was gone forever! I like the dress and color on her, but she needs jewels! No necklace or bracelet? She looks underdressed for lack of baubles.

Jenny McCarthy looked really pretty, and I think this dress is a step up from what she’s been wearing. Color is great, and the empire waistline is flattering.

Amy Poehler looks great. I think she is so pretty, and this dress is flattering, if a little tight. Her hair is swell, for sure.

  23. kazoo says:

mccarthy looks like 20 people are living under her tent dress. i know nothing about dressing plus sized women, but…shouldn’t there be some area that’s fitted, like around the waist, to give some semblance of a flattering figure?

something about poehler’s face just makes me want to punch her.

i LOVED zooey’s dress!!! i love how close she and her sister are. and both have such gorgeous eyes.

  24. Amanda G says:

Sigh…why is it impossible for Melissa McCarthy to wear a flattering dress? Something with a bit of style and color? The Help chick AND the Glee chick who are both larger found dresses that made them look fabulous! Why can’t Melissa do the same? The dress she is wearing looks like she made it at home. And the hair…ugh.

  25. Lindy says:

Thanks you for the pics of the Deschanel sisters together. I love them both–and I love how close and supportive they are!!

  26. JB says:

Zooey’s hair destroyed her whole look. Her dress was my favorite of the night, but, that hair. NO!

  27. Ranga says:

McCarthy’s dress is too robin hood. I would have really liked Zooey’s but for that white collar thing. The rest of the girls look nice, but not smashing.

  28. Amy says:

Amy Poehler looks like the memaw of the bride.

  29. whatevs says:

each of this ladies look so bad idek where to begin. ok first off, white on pale=washed out effect. zooey’s dress reminds me of tetris which is nice, but she looked super uncomfortable in her whole outfit and hair, something felt like she is wearing fake hair and eye contacts and the whole make up and hair was too much to be comfy in. her sister is the classical beauty of their family but i’m not feeling this matronly sack dress… at all. is she pregnant or did she recently give birth or something? tina fey looks awful, i thought she was pretty conservative about dresses but i guess she wanted to shine, since she’s old news now, and failed by trying something that doesn’t suit her personality at all. salma hayek would have looked much better in that. i can’t hate on melissa’s look though because i’ve seen it on the model and it looks like a curtain no matter who wears it.
