I’m not even going to recap some of dumb stories we’ve heard about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes for several months now – just go to our Eva Mendes archives to review. Ever since every photo agency managed to get (posed) photos of Eva and Ryan in Paris over Thanksgiving, the speculation has been non-stop. What’s interesting is that the speculation seems to have one larger storyline: Ryan is deeply in love with Eva, he’s really serious about her, he wants to marry her, and Eva just sees him as a cute boy to bone. Incidentally, did we ever give them a joined name? Ryva? Evan? Gosdes? Menling?
Now Eva and Ryan – MENLING – have taken their very first tabloid cover. Who is pushing these stories? I don’t get it. Is it Team Eva? Or is it Team Ryan? Perhaps it’s some grand conspiracy involving flannel shirt manufacturers, liquor companies and Disneyland. Life & Style is all up on Menling/Ryva this week, explaining how Eva managed to capture everybody’s favorite hipster boyfriend:
Going from Ryan Gosling’s co-star in The Place Beyond the Pines to the actor’s serious girlfriend in a matter of months, Eva Mendes has become the envy of every girl by snagging Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor!
“Ryan is obsessed — he wants to see Eva all the time,” a friend tells Life & Style. “I don’t know what it is about her, but he’s into Eva hook, line and sinker!”
In the new issue of Life & Style — on newsstands now — the passionate relationship is chronicled from the couple’s instant chemistry on set to late-night make out sessions and exotic trips — Ryan swept Eva off her feet in Paris over Thanksgiving and introduced her to his mom, Donna, on New Year’s Day. And now Ryan’s even thinking marriage!
“Even when the cameras weren’t rolling, they were really affectionate with each other,” Nicole Sykes, who was an extra on the Altamont, N.Y., set of The Place Beyond the Pines on Aug. 19, tells Life & Style about the couple’s instant connection. “Eva was kissing Ryan’s head and cuddling with him while they sat on the ground. You could tell that she really liked him.”
Friends say Ryan is head over heels. “Eva’s wildly passionate and impulsive. He thinks of her as the female version of himself,” a friend tells Life & Style. But the friend adds that his protective mom and close-knit family are cautioning Ryan to put the brakes on his whirlwind affair.
“Ryan’s family is worried; Eva’s so LA,” shares the friend. “She’s so into the business and not a super-warm person.” And while Ryan has hopes for marriage in his future, by Eva’s own admission, Ryan may be setting himself up for disappointment with her. “I don’t believe in the institution of marriage,” Eva has said.

Jezebel had a few more details from the cover story – apparently, when Eva first met Ryan, “she played it cool… getting to know him gradually.” Neither of them like fancy bars or restaurants, “they prefer grubby food and dive bars.” Amongst the biggest relationship problems? Eva chain-smokes and Ryan’s mom still compares all of his girlfriends to Rachel McAdams, and all of the non-Rachels come across badly by comparison.
Meanwhile, I really am wondering what the angle is. I simply don’t buy that Ryan met drunk-faced Eva, fell head over heels in love with her, and is preparing to spend the rest of his life cleaning out her ashtrays. Certainly, there’s an angle I haven’t explored, right?

Drive is actually really good but it’s very slow-burning. If you can handle getting bored a couple of times during the movie, then go for it 😀 Alot of violence too…
Also, Oscar is great in the film – I don’t want to spoil anything so if you want to see it for him, go!

I will watch it eventually — and I like suspense and thrillers a lot…it’s the Gosling that I find hard to take nowadays (he didn’t use to bother me before, I mean…I didn’t get his appeal but didn’t use to have such negative feelings towards him before).
Oh, Oscar Isaad is not only a very good actor, he’s also absolutely delicious.
Eve – I know what you mean. I saw it before I started reading gossip and ”following” celeb lives etc, so I didn’t have a strong disliking towards him. If I had seen it and known what I know now I probably wouldn’t have gone 😛 Not that it’s a bad movie, at all 🙂

It all seems so ‘set-up’. So wrong. We never heard about Ryan’s private life before and then all of the sudden he’s everywhere. We’re basically hearing how head over heels he is every week. I smell a beard. Not that he’s gay, just that he needed to ”settle down” so he would seem more mature/grown-up.

I find the whole story more funny by the day. A guy who desperately likes to stay out of the Hollywood/celebrity hype ends up on the cover of a cheap gossip magazine.

There was a pregnancy-miscarriage after cocaine bender blind item on the New York Post (Page 6). Some people think it was her since she was photographed coming out of a prenatal yoga class and because she did go to rehab. Pretty heavy stuff actually!
What I don’t understand, is how can he go from Rachel McAdams to Eva Mendes? My understanding is Rachel is one of the nicest, most down to earth celebs out there. If it’s true his mother didn’t want her son to marry Rachel, there is no way in heck she’s gonna let him marry Eva, who has substance abuse history and who is not down to earth at all.
I don’t think this pairing has really caught on, Ryan fans like me just pretend she does’nt exit, which must make Eva’s publicity pushers mad, so now they resort to Kardashian fake news tactics to push this pairing and to push Eva’s career.
It makes me wonder what his PR people think about all the negativity towards the relationship- I haven’t read anything anywhere that thinks this is a hot hook up. Eva seems to be universally disliked.

Rumour had it that Ryan’s mother meddled in his relationship with Rachel who by the way is the nicest celeb that I’ve ever met and that Rachel grew tired of it. It must suck for his mom to be dealing with Eva now. Karma for her I guess.
Eva is the convenient fall girl but what about Ryan’s people? He’s the bigger star, there’s no way Eva is pulling stunts like this, for months now, without his go-ahead. I get a bit sick of the blaming/snarking on the female half of any unexpectedly public relationship, the men aren’t innocent victims either. While Eva is not averse to publicity and is certainly enjoying this new push in the press, I’d wager it’s HIS team that’s pushing the romance so hard to the media.

I doubt these kinds of stories are coming from his PR team, because making him look needy and pathetic is not exactly good for him in any way. imo this kind of rubbish comes from a reporters imagination with a little/a lot of help from Eva’s PR.

I never thought I’d see the day where Ryan’s face is on a crappy gossip mag. This is disappointing, really. I don’t like this new Ryan. I want the old, shy and private Ryan back. This was when I knew very little about his personal life. I hope he realizes this charade is losing him fans. He’ll always be a great actor, but all this stuff with Eva is really putting me off.
Ryan’s in Thailand right now for Only God Forgives for at least 4-5 months I believe. My only assumption is that they’re putting stories out like this to fill the time when they can’t have more photo ops together. There’s nothing else they can speculate on.

This whole story feels really off. Five months ago, Ryan seemed quite content living the life of a successful, young and single man. Now all of a sudden he’s desperate to get married and have children as soon as possible? And with Eva of all people? For the stories to be more believable, he should have picked somebody who hasn’t publicly claimed several times they never want to marry or have kids. This is all very odd.
Is it just me or do those two just look WRONG together? Both are attactive people in the same business, but one looks like a boy and the other looks like a woman. They may be the same age or close in age but you wouldn’t know it from looking at them together.
Ryan has never been shy. He is a odd duck that just tries to lives his own life. He is not uncomfortable with being a celebrity…he wouldn’t be in showbusiness if he was. He is just new to the game. He had a huge year and he has said himself he never thought all three films would be released at once. He would never want to be over exposed in the bad way he has been the last fee months …who would? He has always dated costars…nothing new. No guy wants marriage after a few months unless they need something out of it (residency permit, need to fix their image, whatever), and I’m sure Ryan has no probs getting one to whomever he wants to go and his image doesn’t need fixing (his multiple flings aren’t really damaging him). He’ not exactly new to the game, he’s been around for quite some time and has been in high profile relationships. He’s definitely had a year, but that doesnt mean he doesn’t know what that entails…attention. Gallivanting around with EM is going to result in exactly what’s happening. Maybe if he refrained from parading around Paris and kept it low key, there wouldn’t be such a backlash. Or hey, maybe don’t make a lame funny or die video with the starlet du jour. I know what you meant, my point is he’s new to this level of celebrity but not to celebrity. He was by no means unknown, new to the world of paparazzi, and gossip rags. He’s a smart guy, he’s just made stupid choices these last few months. Post Notebook, anyone who was a fan was looking at him as a sex symbol, on top of the ultimate husband image. There’s no way to know who called the paps in Paris. Regardless, he was a part of it. The pap laws in France make me question how those photos got out without them signing off. The Disneyland video and photos are another example of a lame pap photo series. There is a video on You Tube of the Pere Lachaise stunt where you can see that at least 5 paps were already waiting for them inside the cemetery when they walked up the stairs to visit. Very strange, also RG tried to leave looking very annoyed dragging EM behind him. But somehow they still continued the visit. Also I find it strange that no paps were able to get pics of RG in airports when he left LA and flew to Paris. Regardless of all the strange things, it will definitely help the movie’s financial success. People want to see them now together in this flick, whether they like it or not. She will get some more movie roles as the hot chic out of it. His face on the cover of a cheap gossip magazine is definitely not good for his reputation as a serious actor.

I thought Ryan wasn’t into the whole “celebrity and glamour” thing? Someone above said he could have remained low key in Paris if he wanted to, but he didn’t, which is puzzling to me, since he used to be very private. Eva is totally the exact opposite type of person who I thought he would end up with.

This whole shenanigans has cheapened him. It really sucks. This is certainly helping her career and image, but it’s not exactly helping his. I don’t know if he’s to blame or not.
