Jessica Alba says Beyonce should sell first photos of Blue Ivy & get paid like she did

Jessica Alba is all over the place promoting her new line of organic baby care products, called The Honest Company. Their model is a kind of monthly “personal shopper” experience for biodegradable diapers and home care products like laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. It costs $79.95 a month for the “diaper bundle,” $35.95 for “family essentials,” and $115.90 for both. The amount of diapers you get depends on the size of your baby, and the price doesn’t sound exorbitant for that type of product. I guess Alba has to find another way to supplement her income now that her career in B movies is on the wane. It seems like she really cares about making products that are both safe for babies and good for the environment, I’ll give her that.

Anyway in a new interview on CNN’s HLN, (video below) Alba admits that she earned good money for the first photos of her daughter Honor, now three and a half, and that she banked it for Honor’s future. She didn’t reveal the exact amount she was paid, but reports have it at $1.5 million. Alba had her second baby, daughter Haven, about five months ago. I doubt she got paid anything for Haven’s photos, but I could be wrong.

Alba, who is mom to daughters Honor and Haven, told CNN she thinks Beyonce and Jay-Z should take control of the public’s thirst for the first glimpse of baby Blue and sell the photos.

The 30-year-old actress and husband Cash Warren made the decision to sell the first photos of Honor to OK! magazine for a reported $1.5 million.

“For our family, we just wanted to control the experience. We put the money that the picture made into a bank account for Honor to do whatever she wants to do with,” she explained. “It’s her picture, it’s her birth, and we didn’t want it to be like a weird thing when we were walking out of the house with her for the first time.”

Alba believes that selling the first photos will stop the paparazzi from going to dangerous lengths to nab the first look at a celebrity’s offspring.

“If there’s a price tag on your child — which is so bizarre — people will go to crazy lengths. We wanted to avoid the hysteria,” she said, adding that they had a great experience with OK! magazine using a photographer they were friends with.

[From Huffington Post]

At least she’s honest about the fact that she saved the baby photo money, unlike Jennifer Lopez who kept a reported $6 million for the first photos of her twins and didn’t say a peep about it. Alba is talking about the climate three and a half years ago for celebrity baby photos, though. The amount that celebrities can make for baby photos has gone significantly down since, and the trend is just to release a photo to the press in order to control the paparazzi, not to try and negotiate for the highest amount of money. Unless the money is going to charity, it seems gauche to get paid for baby photos. I love how at the end of this clip Alba says “You can just give the money to charity and to your baby and that’s it,” as if her baby is a charity. As for her advice to Beyonce, which was solicited by the interviewer and not just volunteered, I doubt we’ll be seeing photos of Blue Ivy for some time and I’ll leave it at that.

    Hmmm intereting

  2. Marjalane says:

It depresses me to live in a world where Jessica Alba gets paid for pictures of her baby.

    • Camille says:

Exactly. She is has-been. Her only job is walking on red carpets for no reason. She is only c-list celeb now not even c-list actress.

      • brin says:

ITA. Good thing she’s saving the money for her kid’s future because she doesn’t have much of a career left and what does he do for a living?

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Agreed. And good question, Brin-what exactly does Cash Warren do??

      • kibbles says:

Co-sign. I’ve been thinking the same thing when I see Alba at all these awards shows. The last movie I saw with her in a lead role was Good Luck Chuck a few years ago and that movie was horrendous. Possibly one of the worst films of the decade. I know she has been in other films since then but weren’t most of them flops or where she was in a large ensemble cast? She is pretty but was always a bad C-list actress. I guess she is open to doing anything to continue making money and I don’t blame her at all. Her latest business venture sounds promising and will keep her in the spotlight similar to that of Goopy Paltrow and her business ventures relating to her website.

      • Caz says:

Beyonce has a cash flow that Alba thinks she’s entitled to. She still thinks she’s worthy of the mega $. LOL that she’s involved in a baby goods company – will she be filling orders, checking inventory or just get a payment each month for doing not much at all? She’s obviously pretty but a terrible actress. Her time has passed – at least she’s trying to get real work.

  3. Azurea says:

    Love that cute last photo!

  4. Asli says:

I don’t think Beyonce will sell Blue’s photo. First, the money isn’t as good as it used to. Second, there will probably be a HUGE backlash. And third, as much as I dislike her, I actually think she wanted and loves her daughter (surogate or no) and she’s trying to keep her protected. We’ll see. I’m usually wrong 😛

  5. outofafrica says:

Beetchyonce won’t be selling pictures of Blue Ivy because lets face it there’s only so much photoshop can do

  6. Sue says:

No thrist here for pictures of any babies…… sorry……

These people really think a lot of themselves…..

  7. Franny says:

    she’s just so pretty.

  8. Alexis says:

She and her husband look like brother and sister.

  9. TheOriginalVictoria says:

Jessica has some issues. I still can’t get over the interview she gave to Elle stating that she would walk up to black men on the streets and ask them if they were her dad.

I mean really? She is so try hard but then when she hooked up with Cash Warren, it all made sense to me. Meh.

    • chickieboo says:

I THOUGH THAT JESSICA WAS MEXICAN AND WHITE.

      • TheOriginalVictoria says:

Well, aside from the fact that Mexican is not a race, she is mostly Caucasian and Native American.

I think she was referring to the fact that her skin color was darker than that of her mother’s although her father is around her complexion so I really didn’t know where she was trying to go with that. Like I said try hard.

Another issue: her trying to be intelligent when homegirl is not even close. She got all upset when she tried to act all knowing and told a papper to be “Sweden” referring to the country’s neutrality. Except Switzerland is neutral in current times. The she tried to counterpoint by using Wiki to prove Sweden was neutral back when Victory Gardens were popular. Try hard.

    • Suzy (from Ontario, Canada) says:

Well according to Wikipedia (which names both her parents), her mother is of Danish and French Canadian descent and her father is Mexican American. It sounds, from the description, like her parents were married and her father was in the Air Force which moved the family around until they settled in California when she was 9. She also has a younger brother. So I don’t know why she’d be going around asking strange black men if they were her father, unless her mother told her that Mark Alba, the man Wiki lists as her father, isn’t her bio Dad.

She also, according to IMDB, has a movie coming out next year (it’s in post production), so I guess she’s still working, but maybe has slowed things down with having another baby.

She’s never been a favourite of mine, in terms of an actress, especially after seeing her the Fantastic Four (that blond hair…ack! Terrible casting. She just looked so wrong as that character imo).

I think selling the pics of their new baby (any celebrity) is not a bad thing to do if the money goes to a charity or maybe setting up a charity or scholarship in the baby’s name or something, but to keep the money? I think that’s kind of greedy considering how much money they already have. It’s not like her daughter is going to go hungry, and JLo…let’s not even go there. She’s so beyond greedy it’s astonishing.

That’s just my opinion. Obviously it’s their money and they can do what they want, but when I read about things like Beyonce and Jay-Z having to decorate this hospital delivery room to the nth degree and spend money on ridiculous things like a gold rocking horse, etc., that to me is kind of nauseating in a world where children are going hungry and don’t have enough clothing or a roof over their heads. I know it’s not their responsibility to spend their money taking care of every poor child in the world, but it’s hard to reconcile little ones who scrounge in garbage dumps for things they can sell for food while movie stars are buy diamond encrusted pacifiers for their babies (yeah, I’m looking at you Mariah!).

      • Lotta Sweden says:

Actually, Sweden is a neutral country, it has been so in the past as well as currently. Switzerland ia also neutral, both they are two diffrent countries.

    • Alexis says:

Did she really say that? Weird. However, she does look like she’s part black (she could be her husband’s sister, and she also looks like Alicia Keys who is b/w biracial), so maybe people told her that she looked half black as a kid so she wondered about herself.

I mean, do we know whether her dad has some black background? Very few Mexicans do, but he might be one of them…but I guess that story implies that he isn’t? I don’t even know.

      • TheOriginalVictoria says:

Sweden’s involvement with the Middle East, IMO negates their neutrality claim as it did during the WWII period when they were secretly dealing with the Hitler’s regime. Those are facts.

  10. no thanks says:

beyonces baby will need the money for all the cosmetic surgey she will need to have, they say she looks like daddy lmao…..

    • Remote Control says:

      A bit much, no?

      • 221jazz says:

Not really….look at Jessica’s daughter Honor, she did not inherit her mum’s good looks. Honor looks like the dad not a good look for a girl. Calling a baby ugly is not evil, it is what it is. some ugly babies grow up to be good looking adults sometimes…..SOMETIMES.

    • Nev says:

not every child will have features like barbie.

  11. LeManda says:

    I love that silver dress!!

  12. jacquie109 says:

I’m sorry but where did she say that B needs to sell the baby pictures? She said that it might be a good idea because people wouldn’t be rushing them for the first photo, because lets face it, paps can be down right dangerous to make a buck. She also said that it was “up to the parents”. So lets not make this out to seem like she “TOLD” B to sell the pics…..

  13. me says:

She is also a spokeswoman for Revlon, which makes her a good $7 mil per year….as long as she stays pretty, she’ll make money IMO….
I find it funny though how on Kelly Ripa’s show she announced her as Hollywood’ biggest star…….?? what?

  14. BerMan says:

Jessica is pretty and her kids lovely.
Question. Jessica Simpson was pregnant a little before Beyonce , now Beyonce gave birth full term ? and Jessica is still pregnant. –
    Bloggers Confusion.

    • Agatha says:

It is a puzzle isn’t, she wasn’t preggo for long..like Jessica and Garner. She revealed she was pregnant at that show and viola! she gives birth within a couple of months.

  15. lucy2 says:

I don’t get her enduring fame either.

I do get the idea of trying to control the situation, but at the same time it still just feels weird to sell baby photos. And the celeb kids the paparazzi are interested in are still stalked and harassed no matter what.

  16. xxx says:

beyonce has a career and she doesn’t need her kid for attention. alba does.

  17. Tweakspotter says:

You won’t see Beyonce’s baby until she stops nursing from the biological mother they paid to feed her. That and Bey needs to pretend she’s working on “losing the baby weight” for now.

  18. lea says:

This chic is such an annoying twit.Is she even still relevant? Using her kids to stay in the limelight is just tacky. Apparently, Alba thinks that every mom can pay $80 a month for disposable diapers? Her head is so far up her own ass it is crazy. Just buy cloth and be done with it.

  19. Stacy Dresden says:

Let’s face it – part of the appeal of Blue Ivy’s photos will be seeing if she dodged that Jay-Z bullet!

  20. cprincess says:

Im more amazed that someone paid Jennifer Lopez 6 mill for pics-I mean talk about has been????

  21. Marianne says:

I don’t mind the whole “selling pics of your newborn baby” especially if the money is going to charity. At least some good comes out of it.

And if you don’t do it professionally with someone like People or Ok!, there will still be paparzzi on the street hounding you for that first shot anyway.

  22. Kim says:

Lovely- shes admitting to selling her child & being proud of it! MANY celebs walk out of house and get papped with their new babies and dont get paid & dont care. Its like putting a price on your childs head. If she was donating the money to a charity that would be one thing. Well I guess she has no real acting career so this is how she makes her money.

  23. HappyJoyJoy says:

I’d pay $1.5 million to never know about her again. She can save it to be spent in obscurity where she belongs.

  24. Isa says:

Has anyone else noticed that her second child, Haven, seems to be a redhead? 🙂

I do like the idea of her products. But man, that’s super expensive. Assuming your baby is potty trained at 2, you will have spent about $2000. Assuming my math is correct.

But disposables have horrible chemicals in them and don’t decompose for 250-500 years. I’m cloth diapering my new little one, wish I would’ve my first. I’ve spent about $250 and they’ll hopefully last me until I’ve potty trained.

I really liked the silver dress until I saw the back of it. I don’t like the cutout. It makes her backside look weird and we all know Jessica’s backside is far from weird! Or maybe it’s the picture and the way she’s leaning forward. Either way, beautiful from the front.

If I were a celebrity I would totally sell the photos. Might as well instead of the paps getting rich off of them. I’d love to be able to donate that much money to charity or put some in my kid’s trust fund.

    • kc says:

Diapers, disposable or not, are super expensive. I live in San Francisco so I may be somewhat granola-y, but cloth diapers, as long as they pick them up and laundering them, are awesome!

Also, that is way way way cheaper than disposable diapers- a 24 pack costs around $20, and lasts maybe two days, so you’re almost spending $80/ week

      • Isa says:

Things must cost more where you live? Because I used Pampers with my first and they cost about $20 bucks for a box of about 90. Depending on what size you need, like the Honest company, the larger the size the fewer you get in a box because as they get older there are fewer diaper changes. I’m not sure how much we spent a month, but it adds up until potty training!
We don’t have a service to clean our diapers, but it’s not difficult at all. I love our cloth diapers. My son has them different colors, even a Spiderman one and a owl print. My husband put a disposable on my son when the cloth diapers weren’t dry and he got broke out in a splotchy rash.

      • Rhea says:

What brand of diaper that u’re using anyway? I am using pampers baby dry, $45 for around 120 something diapers then I switch to Target brand for the same amount but cost only $20. The bigger the size the lower amount of diaper in the box. But the price is around that. And I live in NYC which supposed to charge more for everything.

      • Isa says:

I used Pampers baby dry up until size 2 when we swiched to cloth. $19.77 for a box of 92. Cheaper if I had a coupon that day.

  25. aprayerforthewildatheart says:

I couldn’t believe it when I saw her at The GGs, her and Biel. They must have good agents. Her new business is child centered, but still I’m surprised they asked her about Beyonce, like Jess is some ‘expert’ now, why because she acts like she is?

The birth of baby Blue had enough drama, the last thing they ‘should’ do is sell her pics, not that I believe they would. I have a feeling that after all the hoopla surrounding the birth they’re going go back to their private ways.

  26. Meanchick says:

I keep waiting for this chick to say something redeeming, but alas, she wanders even further into STFU-land.

  27. dahlia1947 says:

Don’t worry idiot. There was no hysteria over your pregnancy cause youre no one. and I think Beyonce and Jay Z have better things to do than to take your advice.

Celebs getting paid for baby pics is the WIC and Public Assistance. THey found a new way

to make money since some aren’t getting acting jobs anymore.

  28. Jayna says:

    Does her husband work?

  29. LittleDeadGrrl says:

I have never understood the trend of selling baby pics. Who did it first? Why the hell is this a thing? It’s your baby and that’s great and the pics should be for you and your family. Why should I give a f–k what your baby looks like?

  30. Sophie says:

Ass-grabbing in public is so trashy. Ew.

  31. dahlia1947 says:

U can see her tramp stamp. Strapless dresses emphasize those huge shoulders of hers.
