Armie Hammer was busted for pot possession in Texas, two months ago

Well, this certainly doesn’t correspond to his image of a picture-perfect Disney prince. TMZ reports that Armie Hammer, star of The Social Network and currently up for a handful of Supporting-Actor awards for J. Edgar, is now officially a pothead. He was arrested in Texas for possession of pot cookies and one pot brownie. But this was back in November! How are we just hearing about it now?

“Social Network” star Armie Hammer — who played both Winklevoss twins in the movie — was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas for marijuana possession … the same small town where both Willie Nelson AND Snoop Dogg were busted for pot in the last year.

A drug-sniffing dog did the detective work, and allegedly found 3 medicinal pot cookies and 1 brownie. The incident occurred on November 30.

We’re told this occurred at a border patrol checkpoint.

Hammer spent 1 day in jail before bailing out on a $1,000 bond.

[From TMZ]

Armie comes from a well-to-do and powerful family, which might be one explanation for how this didn’t make headlines immediately. Except that I don’t think his family has much to do with him now that he’s in Hollywood? So my only other explanation is that people don’t really care about Armie Hammer, or about pot possession.

Also – this Texas town might need to get a grip with their drug laws, right?

And he’s married to a pretty woman. This is so disappointing, ever since the J. Edgar movie I was so invested in him being a sweet, romantic, gay man. He made all my celebrity-fantasies much more interesting.

  2. KatHug says:

I’m from Texas & this is a town right on the Mexican border…..so ppl are stupid to think that border patrol is not going to search them

  3. dorothy#1 says:

OMG 2 cookies and a brownie?? Aren’t there bigger crimes in Texas?

    He is super cute though!!!

    • Capella says:

@dorothy, you should see his mug shot. The prettiest mug shot ever. He truly looks like what I’d imagine Prince Charming would look like in real life.

And a real 6foot5er to boot! Tall hunk.

  4. Naye in VA says:

Yea spending a night in jail over pot food? not even like bud , but THC laced food items seems kind of extreme. AND bail. ehh. at least in his line of work employers dont give a crap

  5. aenflex says:

I’ll smoke a doobie with him and listen to soft rock any effing time.

  6. GoodCapon says:

Mummy and Daddy will sort this out. No worries.

  7. atlantapug says:

People are still getting arrested for miniscule amounts of pot?

And even better, people still care that people are ingesting/smoking small amounts of pot?

And note to all pot lovers, can you learn to avoid this town? Maybe you aren’t the sharpest tool if you cross the border with drugs in your possession.

    • Girl says:

Sierra Blanca is seriously BFE. People probably cross here, thinking they are avoiding the crossings in bigger cities that they will think have fewer resources to sniff out contraband. Maybe. Obviously they need to think again.

      Anyhow. Legalize it!

  8. Asli says:

Wauw! He’s hot – haven’t heard of him before. The whole marihuana-deal… Alot more people smoke weed than what is generally known (found out via this site, LOL, thanks ladies) so I say just legalize the damn thing. It’s harmless and more time could be spent on catching actual criminals. Closet-smokers step forward!

  9. Talie says:

His wife’s family also has some clout–she comes from Texas. Anyway, yeah, I think his family isn’t that pleased with his lifestyle. I hear they’re super, super religious.

  10. TheOriginalKitten says:

This is so lame. We need to legalize weed already–hell, sell the sh*t in a vending machine, government can regulate, charge a tax, whatever..this is just so ridiculous. Let the poor dude eat his pot brownies and leave him alone. Sheesh..

    • gg says:

It could solve the debt crisis, and take control of it away from the black market.

    • Kara Ann says:

I think that it’s safe to say that even if they legalized pot, none of us could afford to smoke it. Cigarettes are outrageously priced so I think the good ole weed would be priced into “WTF” territory. That’s just what happens when the government gets involved…in any business! Let’s charge a licensing tax, a sales tax, and oh in case of the demon weeds tobacco and (gasp) marijuana the ultimate “sin tax”!
BTW, I’m a little drunk right now so I hope this post makes sense. F_ing government!!!

      • jill says:

Kara Ann… I like your post and I see you like the government about as much as I do.. lol Yeah, the real thieves (and bad guys) are the government!! POT is basically harmless compared to all the other drugs out there..! Wake up politicians/government officials.

  11. bea says:

A total waste of time – look at that little lamb? What wrong could he do while blissed out on a cookie?

Seriously – police wasting time & money looking for & confiscating POT COOKIES and BROWNIES?

  12. Sara says:

Makes me like him even more!!!

  13. Azurea says:

The powers-that-be don’t want to give up the revenue from fining pot-users. Not to mention what happens to those confiscated cookies…

    • gg says:

They could INCREASE their revenue by a LOT if they just bloody sold it legally. Meanwhile, alcohol is killing people …

  14. Sarah says:

Sierra Blanca is right on the Mexican border, so, no they shouldn’t relax their drug laws. Also, he was arrested by the border patrol which means he drove up to a check point with the weed and that’s extremely stupid.

  15. phlyfiremama says:

That particular stop is an embarrassment to the rest of Texas. If pot was not even legalized JUST decriminalized it would wipe out the mexican cartels pretty quickly. The black market surrounding pot would literally go up in a puff of smoke. If the government was smart, they would full on legalize cannabis & put the appropriate taxes & money generating revenues in place around it~like CO & CA have done. Do a little homework on how much benefit not just the female plant (which is the flower that people smoke for the cannibanoids) can have regarding cancer but the over 30,000 uses the male plant (hemp) has~ industrial, environmental, and healthwise. It is long since time that the actual science around marijuana be brought forward, and that the mass hysteria that was carefully orchestrated by industries that would flat out lose when compared to hemp~ the pharmaceutical industry in particular~be exposed for the lies that they are. The gateway to drugs isn’t pot~its the first time you alter your consciousness by twirling around, getting yourself dizzy, and going whee! that was fun let me do that again. Pot just makes you realize that since you smoked & don’t feel like killing granny for a reefer like the propoganda said you would, what else did the government lie about? I suggst that you check out the vaults of Erowid for REAL fact based information on chemical substances.

    • Sarah says:

Well we can debate for days about the benefits of weed and whether it should or shouldn’t be legalized, but the point is, it isn’t legal and he knowingly drove up to a bp check point near the Mexican border with weed on him so that isn’t very bright of him. Listen, I’m Latina and grew up in El Paso so I drove past that check point hundreds of times so I know exactly what types of a-holes bp agents can be.

    • Trek Girl says:

It is extremely naive to think that legalizing pot alone would wipe out drug cartels or even weaken them a substantial amount for long – it’s just so very naive.

Sarah is right; at the end of the day, marijuana is illegal if you don’t have it legally for medical purposes; if you know you have it and cross the Mexican border or go somewhere where law enforcement is, you deserve the night in jail that you get.

      • gg says:

Not if you can get it elsewhere. It wouldn’t happen overnight, of course, but I seriously doubt it would take long before it was sold legally and publicly, especially if it was less expensive than the black market. Why would you even drive over to Waster Ken’s basement when you could either grow it yourself or get it at the drugstore.

      • Trek Girl says:

@GG: I don’t fully understand what you’re saying. Would you mind explaining what you mean?

  16. Marianne says:

I personally dont think smoking weed is a big deal, but perhaps we’re just hearing of this now because the SAG’s are this Sun…and he’s nominated. Somebody from his team might have leaked this story so we all start talking about him.

    • Trek Girl says:

Yeah, that’s very possible. A story like this for someone that looks as clean-cut as Armie does is a sure-fire way to get people’s attention.

  17. Shannon says:

“Also – this Texas town might need to get a grip with their drug laws, right?”

Heck yes they do! In my state, you get the equivalent of a traffic ticket because it has been both decriminalized and deprioritized. You pay a $125 fine and that’s only if the cop who catches you with it is in a bad mood. Even that seems too harsh to most people here though, and usually the cops will just tell you to smoke in your own home next time because they won’t bust someone for that. I actually had a police sergeant come into one of my criminology classes and admit this. As long as you have a personal use amount (under an ounce) and no extra plastic bags sitting around (that’s a tipoff that you’re dealing), they don’t care. At all. And we don’t even have legalized medical marijuana.

My state borders Canada, and guess what? There’s plenty of BC bud coming through the northern border. So being a border state isn’t going to cut it for me, excuse-wise. The problem driving violence on the southern border is the illegality of the pot, not the pot itself. Mexican cartel profits are in the neighborhood of 40% from weed alone, with the rest of their profits coming from harder drugs, weapon sales and human trafficking. 40% is a huge chunk and legalizing marijuana outright will be a kick to the gut for them. Of course, certain people *cough* DEA drug czars *coughcough* want to keep this issue political because certain people make tons of money enforcing marijuana laws. It’s in their best interest to insist that keeping it illegal is somehow the only thing standing in the way of a total meltdown of our civilization, facts and the success of places like the Netherlands be damned.
