Emma Stone vs. Jessica Chastain at the SAGs, who looked worse?

We’ve already covered the big winners from The Help, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. Both were well dressed and stunning, as we’ve seen from them consistently this awards season. So here we have the two women from The Help whose fashion has been hit or miss lately, and they were both big misses.

Emma Stone looked confusingly dated in a black Alexander McQueen that’s more 50s prom than awards-worthy. Maybe that’s what she was going for. Her dress featured some strange poofy lace crap around the neckline and a slight drop waist. It did make her look incredibly tiny on the red carpet and she’s very thin, but I bet anything would look small compared to the junk that’s going on near the top. At least her makeup isn’t as clownish as it usually is. Look at those ridiculous shoes with the feather accents. They’re Alexander McQueen too, as is her clutch with the kind of brass knuckle handle. I think Emma’s date was her mom. They looked really cute together and you can see their similar features. Emma is so hot and young and this look is just wrong.

Ditto for Jessica Chastain, whom I’ve just started to get to know and really like. She seems like such a decent, genuine person who is grateful for her success. But she just can’t get it right. Here she is in a Calvin Klein dress that’s a great color for her, but is bizarrely cut. The strange balconette bustline makes her top half look smallish. The lack of a waist on this dress just makes her look heavier on the bottom when that’s not the case at all. She’s so gorgeous. I just think those straight-cut dresses don’t do anyone justice. I think I’ve tried on about two in my life and vowed to never give them another chance. I’ll say something nice: I just love her subtle jewelry and her hair. Those soft waves are really perfectly done, but I would like to see a little darker makeup.

Jessica lost Best Supporting actress to her costar, Octavia Spencer. She didn’t seem to mind. Did you notice how she was crying when Viola Davis won for Best Actress? I really like her and am glad we’ll be seeing more of her. She just needs a better team.

Emma’s dress looked nice on screen, but didn’t like it in photos. Jessica’s is so plain, and uninspiring. I’m sure I could find that dress anywhere. Her hair is much nicer though.

  2. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

They are both cute girls. Emma looks great, hair and makeup-wise, but I will agree that dress is a bit much.

I think Emma is one of those people who are a bit confused about the SAGs. For many years, people attended a bit more casually dressed, but in the past two years, because it has become nationally televised, people had opted for black tie.

Emma’s dress would’ve been perfect for the SAG awards some 3 years ago.

  3. Jules says:

They are both great, but Jessica needs a good stylist immediately.

Agree. Pretty woman, bad dresser. Though it’s hard for me to be negative about the ladies of ‘The Help’. Their group pictures brings tears to my eyes. Such a diverse group of ages, shapes & sizes, and skin color. It’s nice to see them representing women. More realistic.

  4. HappyMom says:

I want to see Allison Janney’s dress close up-the color looks amazing!

  5. lucy2 says:

I don’t mind Emma’s that much, it’s not great but also not terrible. Maybe she’s saving her best dress for the Oscars.
The color is nice but I didn’t like Jessica’s, but than goodness her hair looked better than at the Globes.

  6. The.princess.leia says:

Did anyone notice the smug, bitch face Emma was throwing towards Viola while was accepting the group award? Am I just seeing things that aren’t there or was there a tinge of jealous last night?

    • Tapioca says:

Well, she was the LEAD actress in The Help, but the makers campaigned for Viola & Octavia to be in seperate acting categories and as a result ES lost out – whether or not she’s genuinely happy for Viola or nursing a bitter, blackened heart consumed by jealousy I don’t know!

Jessica Chastain has no waist and no boobs in that dress (and a botox forehead vein). New stylist please!

    • mia girl says:

I really like Emma Stone, but I do not think any campaign could have gotten her nominated for a best actress award for that role.

And it pains me to say it, but I actually think that among the other actresses in The Help, Emma gave one of the weakest performances.

  7. normades says:

Jessica was looking better this time. She needs color like this otherwise she looks washed out.

Emma is usually so fashion forward and cute. Not so this time 🙁

  8. mel says:

The problem with Jessica is her makeup is all wrong for the dress…love her and emma though….so down to earth.

  9. JudyJudyJudy says:

both dresses were bad – but hard to make these beauties look anything but vibrant and lovely.

  10. Mimi says:

Holy sh-it balls, Emma & Jessica are both so cute & pretty (respectively) but both of these looks just scream WTF.

  11. NerdMomma says:

I actually think Emma looks adorable, aside from the fussy heels. Those simple Calvin Klein dresses really don’t do anything for anyone. Jessica is so beautiful- hope the next dress she wears is better. I also love her with red lips.

  12. Lexi says:

Jessica Chastain should also get a manicurist from the 21st century ~ her nails always look like talons ~ and in these shots they look dirty, even though I’m sure they are not ~ shudder!

  13. Cathy says:

Both dress are fugly. But I would of liked Jessicas blue one if the bust had been cut differently. I don’t like that look at all

  14. Boo says:

I like both of them so much. Jessica needs a necklace, pronto. I didn’t mind the dress. Emma seems to be going for “a look,” and it isn’t hideous. But she really needs LIPSTICK COACHING. She almost always has the wrong color lipstick, and it ruins an otherwise perfectly lovely face.

  15. Reece says:

I wouldn’t have put the shoes with Emmas dress though. Too many feathers. Both dresses are neither great nor bad just ok.
Honestly I’m not a CK fan. They all look the same to me

  16. Kristi says:

Agree on Jessica, sad waste of beauty but I think you’re too harsh on Emma. It looked cute, tongue in cheek funky on camera, I thought. Kind of like Helena Bonham Carter with a shower.

And I don’t think she was giving bitchface, more like ‘told you you’d beat Meryl’ face.

  17. Kim says:

Emma looks like a high schooler going to prom. Bad dress & shoes. Her hair and makeup look good.

  18. Amanda G says:

I think that might be the only dress I’ve ever liked on Emma.

  19. Maritza says:

    They both look great!

  20. Camille (The original) says:

Jessica and Emma are both such pretty woman <3 (and its always great to have more gingers in HW too! hehe), but these were not their best looks IMO.
I love the colour of Jessicas dress on her though, she should wear that colour more often, it looks gorgeous on her.
Emmas look was just too OTT over all.

  21. original sandy says:

they both are beautiful and looks great.

  22. Sarah says:

Emma’s earrings are Tiffany. I know bc my mom has them, but my mom will be 51 in March which is why, to me, they make Emma look older. Idk, it’s probably my subconcious telling me to call my mother.

  23. blonde on the dock says:

Jessica Chastain is so beautiful to me. The dress is a little odd but it doesn’t really matter as the color looks stunning on her.

  24. SallyBee says:

I think I would turn gay for jessica chastain- the costume designers and make-up people made her into an absolute voluptous (sp?!) sexpot- why isn’t she taking those people with her wherever she goes? I just think that they did a far better job at making jessica look like a movie star in the actual “The Help” movie than the ones who made her up for this award show. If I were her I would hire them for each and every public appearance I made!!!!

  25. Realthoughts says:

Neither of them are dressed that bad, I have seen way worse, why are people so critical all the time?
