Angelina Jolie is in Berlin, taking the kids to Legoland & going to Holocaust memorials

Did you know Angelina Jolie and the kids are in Berlin now? True story. They flew in (via private jet) a few days ago. Angelina is preparing to push In the Land of Blood and Honey at the Berlin Film Festival. The red carpet is tomorrow – I’m sure we’ll have photos on Sunday. For now, though, just enjoy this story about Brangelina’s activities in Berlin – Legoland! Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe! Wait, what? I had to ask CB if that was seriously the name of the memorial – she confirmed it. I mean, it is what it is, and that’s what happened – Jews were murdered. But maybe a gentler sounding name? Like, even “Holocaust Memorial” would sound better.

It took more than 1-degree weather to keep Angelina Jolie and three of her and Brad Pitt’s kids from enjoying Berlin’s Legoland Discovery Centre on Thursday afternoon.

Mom and Maddox, Pax and Shiloh piled into a Mercedes van and headed to the indoor fun facility, where the kids played for about 90 minutes, before selecting some Lego toys from the gift shop. Pax had the hardest time deciding which package to choose, reports the German tabloid, B.Z..

Jolie seems to be a fan of Legoland, having visited the version in England with one of her kids last September. She also has donated generously to Merlin’s Magic Wand, a worldwide charity created by the operator of Legoland to provide fun experiences for children who are seriously ill, disabled or disadvantaged.

After their visit Thursday, the Jolie-Pitts headed back to their hotel across from the landmark Brandenburg Gate to play, as Jolie prepares to show her film, In the Land of Blood and Honey, at the Berlin International Film Festival on Saturday.

On Wednesday, reports the Bild newspaper, Jolie paid a quiet visit by herself to Berlin’s Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

[From People Magazine]

I didn’t know that Angelina was a supporter of Merlin’s Magic Wand. That’s pretty cool – you can read all about the charity here, at their website. It’s cool that Angelina is so supportive of Lego land – she took the kids to the UK version too.

Oh, I just got that no one has seen Brad in Berlin. It’s just Angelina? Did Brad not join her for this trip? Is he too busy kissing Academy ass? I hope Tilda Swinton flies into Berlin so she and Angelina can get bombed together again.

Two completely different activities. Thankfully she didn’t force the Holocaust Memorial on them – they are too young to understand the significance.

    • Katherine says:

Maddox is not too young at all – he’s ten. In fact, for this type of compassion and sense of obligation to the world (not just to your family and those you personally know) to be instilled in children so it becomes second nature they need to learn such things while they are still impressionable. I first learned about the Holocaust at about this age and it introduced me to history and justice and humanitarianism.

There is so much to be learned from the Holocaust – the incredible good and bravery it inspired in many as well as the triumph of the spirit for those who survived. It is not just about the evil but as much about those who fought that evil.

    • Original Chloe says:

Well, to be fair (and maybe someone has already pointed it out further down in this thread, recently I’m reluctant to read comments under the Brange posts) this memorial is something very special: the way it looks makes perfect sense and projects the message it’s supposed to but you can also see it with kids without traumatizing them (if you believe they’re to young to learn about the Holocaust).

In fact, you’ll see people in Berlin often just sitting there in the lower parts, resting and reading, and the contrast between life and death this introduces makes the message of the memorial itself even more poignant and powerful. For those interested, here’s a link to a picture.

and those blocks of different height take a whole square.
      it’s something everyone should see

I soo want to get bombed with them…wait, that didn’t come out right.

  3. Asli says:

I love Legoland! I’m actually going to Warsaw this April, educational trip, and we’re going to see a concentration camp. I’ve been reading up on it and they’re just horrible places. I have goozebumps just thinking about it….. It’s also really cold and I refuse to turn the radiator on so that may have something to do with the goosebumps….

  4. Sasha says:

God, I just stared at that top photo for like, at least a full minute.. marveling at that face.

  5. merski says:

Seems like there’s famous people in Berlin all the time. Why do I never run into them? :/

  6. sm255 says:

OMG for a second there I thought she took her children to an actual Holocaust memorial. Then she’d be REALLY Cruella DeVille!

    • merski says:

But the kids actually LOVE the Holocaust Memorial! IT’s a huge square with a maze made out of tall brick walls… It’s a great place to play hide and seek… Which, I know, totally inaproppriate, but kids don’t care about that…

      • Max says:

I was going to say, this is NOT a place for family play time.
That’s why I find it pointless. It’s forcing people to approach it in a certain way, and people cannot interact with it in any way.

      • merski says:

You know, I’ve been back and forth about this particular Holocaust Memorial. I’ve learned to appreciate the thought behind it with time.
But as you said, not everybody appreciates it in that way and many people who visit it behave in a very questionable manner. But I suppose this must have been a calculated risk… They have a security guard walking there and reprimanding people on regular basis. This shouldn’t have to be necessary, though.

      • AudreyS says:

Berlin’s Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is one of my favorite places in Berlin. It’s NOT just for Jews that died in the Holocaust, it’s for all Jews that have died at the hands of anti-Semitism in Europe. It’s completely interactive.

  7. Max says:

I don’t think taking kids to Holocaust memorials is in any way disgraceful.

It’s not all just photographs of piles of dead bodies.
And I don’t believe kids don’t recognize the significance of what happened, kids are a lot more intelligent than people seem to think.

The Berlin Holocaust Memorial (if it is the wave-like monolithic one) is rather pointless IMO, and museums are a better way to “connect” to this specific ordeal in the past.

    • Nanea says:

ITA about those monoliths, but there’s the Jewish Museum. It’s ~ 1½ miles from Brandenburg Gate.

    • I agree with you, I took my nieces to Dachau last week [aged 11 and 8], and they averted their eyes when told at pieces I felt a bit ‘raw’ for them, and they self monitored as well. They were learning about the Holocaust in school thus they found it really interesting, there were however sooooooooo many questions I found hard to answer on the way home..

  8. Nancy C. says:

she only looks good with makeup, hair and fully clothed. otherwise ugh.

  9. Kim says:

She is saint. Let’s crucify her for our sins.

  10. Ginger says:

Okay, a sort of serious post aside from the usual fun comments on this site…I disagree about taking her kids to the holocaust memorial as a bad thing…at least the very young kids probably won’t understand but her older children would. I learned about it at the private Christian school I attended around the age of 10. We studied Anne Frank’s diary and other books in addition to our history lessons. Anne Frank’s Diary is one of my favorite and most moving books that I have ever read. I think her kids might appreciate that sort of education. It’s important to learn of these things after all so people don’t forget. My son who is 10 is fascinated by World War II and history in general so he and I have had discussions about the holocaust.(He is also a lego freak and we have gone to Legoland in San Diego). I love to hear about famous people who donate to charity. It always warms my heart.

  11. Franny says:

Has anyone ever had to do a poster presentation for research they have done? That is what that last picture looks like.

    • Nanea says:

      Don’t remind me!

I thought of those endless poster sessions of ongoing (medical) trials weeks ago, when that pic came out.

  12. dena says:

Her lips look like two writhing worms.

    • Rich says:

Yet isn’t it interesting that when they survey plastic surgeons about most desired body parts by women, Angelina’s lips are always at the top? They are just sexy…so your view is in the minority. We men certainly appreciate Angelina’s lips and fantasize about what they can do 🙂

  13. Rena says:

Brad and Angelina and their 6 kids are all in Berlin. They flew there Monday night arriving on Tuesday after Brad’s Q&A for MB (Anne Thompson @ Indiewire had this info posted Tuesday). German media are reporting that there is an exhibit of Brad’s photos for Angelina’s films as he was the film’s still photographer. I believe Angelina’s film is to be shown at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday.

Yahoo has pics of Angelina meeting today with the German Foreign Minister for UNHCR re refugees.

  14. foozy says:

    as beautiful as ever

  15. Amy says:

I know the Holocaust memorial she went to, if I’m not mistaken it’s next to the important government building (the name escapes me). I’m not surprised the word “holocaust” was omitted from the name. Germany is hyper aware of it’s very recent past and I feel like by not including it in the title, it’s trying to distance itself from the Holocaust. Not necessarily a bad thing. I can’t know for sure, but I feel like maybe putting the word Holocaust in the memorial’s name might have been too controversial?

    • Kath says:

It’s a memorial for the victims of anti-semitism, not an attempt of the German public to distance from the terrible crimes. The memorial has an exhibition as well, and it is very well explaining the facts for all ages. The Jewish Museum focusses on Jewish life in Germany over the centuries, including the last hellish chapter, and the new beginning after 1945. The controversy about the memorial was about two things: whether this monument does not trivialize the horrendous crimes, and whether its scope is making all the other victims of the Nazis victims 2nd class.

    Her beauty is unreal

  20. Moreaces says:

Damn she is Sexy, And she should wear emeralds all the time..

  21. Mike says:

She is a mediocre actress at best, her fame status is just because she and Brad are constantly feeding to the press. She may have an interest in charitable activities I don’t doubt it, but this constant fame whoring is so annoying about her. Plus she comes across as crazy and idiotic in interviews.

    • Jacenta says:

      Okkkkkkaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy.

    • Thelma says:

Delusional much? Insanity is when one ignores empirical evidence, such as award nominations over a career, to overstate one’s personal dislike of someone — to the point of rendering one’s view totally non- credible.

  22. JudyJudyJudy says:

that navy suit wonderful – she looks gorgeous in it.

  23. original sandy says:

wow! just wow! she is breathtakingly beautiful, i agree it would be educational to take the children, i don’t think they are too young to learn about it, well maybe the smaller ones.

    • Rosalee says:

geez..are you all getting together later for a jerk off session..enough she’s beautiful but every bloody posting the same people go on and on and on..STFU already yes we know..

  24. lisa says:

Brad is in Berlin with Angie and the Kids. Just as he has been doing to support her for all the years they have been together.

  25. Melly says:

I was staring at the second picture of Angelina and an ad for Jennifer Aniston’s new movie popped up right under it.

    Awkwaaardddd….

  26. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

Of course Brad is with her and the kids.

However, she went to the Museum alone, like she met with the Prime Minister alone.

She is an adult with responsibilties. She took the kids along with another family with kids to Legoland. Then she is about her business as usual and quite organized.

I know, that does not fit the drunk mode, but what can we do. She has important people to meet and places to see. I guess the Grey Goose is on ice at the hotel, sadly we won’t be able to see it. I wonder if In Touch will? Funny they did not know she had these events planned to prep us beforehand. We are always getting stuff after the fact and I am troubled by that. I like my news early.

  27. Dredz says:

She’s insanely gorgeous. On par with Ava Gardner and Elizabeth Taylor. Joan Collins was right when she praised her so. If only she put on more weight, like back in her Tomb Raider days.

    • Hypocricy says:

Yes she will looks outer this world but what i find even more fantastic about her attitude regarding her body is that here is a woman who is genetically blessed bodily wise included if she wanted too. I loved her leanly athletically built Lara Croft frame with perfectly shaped muscular arms and thighs and slightly tan skin.

There is a reason why she was clicked at the prestigious FORD Models Agency at 15; She is tall, long legged with that short trunk long libs proportions and naturally busty.

And yet with all her natural physical blessings she isn’t as vain and beauty obsessed as most of Hollywood to reach her full potential like 99% of Hollywood does.

For me that tells a lot more about her personality, about her being strong and secure in her own skin if she rather focus on other things like brains than being a babe with the perfect body, maintaining it on a daily basis.

I find that attitude beautiful, refreshing and I am sure this woman won’t have a problem getting old because she is already comfortable enough in her own skin to not cave in the pressure of getting back that Lara Croft body.

She just doesn’t seem to care being the most beautiful one. Younger, she never strikes me as the typical starlet bimbo to begin with and has never had a problem to uglify herself and cut her hair in movies even at an age where most starletS rely mainly on their physical attributes. So her attitude is in par with how physical beauty, how fitting a hollywood standard is not as important to her.

I for one love strong women who are gutsy, courageous and don’t cave in the pressure of a certain stanbdard.

      • JudyJudyJudy says:

I dont think she is tall actually – are you sure? She looks tiny to me.

      • Hypocricy says:

i beleive she is 5’7″ or 5’8″ like it’s said in IMDB.

I am 5’9″ and everytime, EACH time people see me in pictures they think i am tiny around 5’3″ and are shocked when they see me first in reality. I think it goes down to your frame. We are lean and long legged in my family, including extended one, cousins and aunts and uncles first, to third generation.

Same was said about late Aaliyah (she was 5’7″), Mariah Carey at the beginning of her career. She said that for some reason people always thought she was tiny when she is 5’9″

The reason i beleive she is tall among the fact that she is often among the tallest women when taken in pictureS standing is that I used to model and know that you don’t get clicked in an Agency like FORD if you are not at the very least 5’7″.

Add the fact that her father is 6’4″, her brother 6’2″ and I tend to beleive it, especially since my mum is my height, my father is 5’11” and they have produced 5 children, three of which girls : 5’9″, 5’10’ and 5’11” and two boys : 6’1″ and 6’6″

My brother who is 6’6″ had a babyboy two years ago from his dutch tiny woman who is 5’1″. From all accounts, it is already established by the pediatrician that my nephew who was born normal size but has never stopped growing above his age with at the very least reach 6’6″ like his Black father. At three nearly he is already taller, two pounds heavier than his half dutch, half spanish cousin who is 6 years old.

So I beleive Jolie having a much taller father than mine and being a former model is defintely tall but look tiny like my sisters and I look in pictures always shocking people when they see us in reality.

I really doubt it. And that is short for a model anyway. Not that I am knocking her, but most actresses have to be tiny to make the short actors look tall. It is rare for a really tall guy to be a actor, though of course it happens so nobody start posting tall guy actor names. 🙂

    News from Berlin:
    http://www.taz.de/Berlinale-Special-Angelina-Jolies-Regiedebut/!87467/

The review basically states that her film is trash and nothing but a promotional film for military interventions. Now it becomes clear why the CFR supported her. Jolie is a warmonger. The message of her film is to bomb countries in the name of US imperialism. Ouch!

to the writer: that’s right. ‘cos you need to make what happened during the holocaust a lot “gentler”. ‘cos people weren’t ripped from their homes, stuffed into trains and gassed. why don’t you just rename the memorial “the happy jew garden”? idiot.
