Britney Spears’ son Jayden suffers seizure & is rushed to hospital (update)

The press made a big deal out of the fact that Britney Spears brought her two boys with her to her hometown in Louisiana this weekend for the first time since losing custody to her ex, Kevin Federline, earlier this year. What should have been a fun family homecoming turned into a medical scare for Britney as her youngest son, Jayden James, two, is said to have suffered a seizure. Jayden had to be rushed to the hospital in Kentwood about 25 miles away from Britney’s family home.

What’s more is that Britney and her family drove Jayden to the hospital themselves when they learned that it would take at least a half an hour for an ambulance to reach them. Jayden had to be kept overnight and Britney insisted on sleeping in a bed next to him. There are a lot of details missing in this story and I hope little Jayden is ok:

BRITNEY SPEARS rushed her two-year-old son to hospital after he suffered a suspected seizure yesterday.

According to reports in the US, JAYDEN JAMES was taken to an emergency ward after lapsing into a “vague and unresponsive” state during a long-awaited family trip to the singer’s hometown of Kentwood in Louisiana.

The entire Spears clan made the 25-mile dash to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Centre, Mississippi, including sister JAMIE LYNN.

Doctors were unable to pinpoint the problem straight away and kept the toddler in for overnight observation.

Distraught Britney, 26, refused to leave his side and asked for a bed next to him in the ward.

Ex-husband KEVIN FEDERLINE is now believed to be making plans to jet out and also be by Jayden’s bedside.

Sources say chaos erupted when the toddler suffered a suspected seizure out of the blue, at about 3pm on Sunday.

One said: “One minute Britney and her sons were relaxing and enjoying their first visit to Kentwood in months, and the next minute Jayden had fallen ill.

“He was vague and unresponsive so Britney dialled an ambulance.

“But she was told it would take half an hour to arrive, and she was best trying to get Jayden to the hospital herself.”

Another added: “They tore off so fast it was incredible.”

The trip was the first time Britney has been allowed to take her sons out of LA since Kevin was given custody.

[From The Sun]

I hope Jayden is ok and as a mom I know how absolutely terrifying any kind of medical emergency with your child can be. My heart goes out to Britney and to Jayden for a full recovery.

When Jayden was born there was some speculation that he may have a medical problem as it took Britney several weeks to reveal him to the public. Hopefully there is no connection between those rumors and this incident and I feel bad for even mentioning that, but it’s bound to come up.

The Sun bases their story on “reports in the US,” but this is the first place I’ve read this, and I can’t find a US source. Maybe it’s a false report or is overblown, and we’ll have to wait and see.

Update: According to a source quoted on People.com, Jayden did not have a seizure and only suffered from hives due to an allergic reaction. He should be fine.

  2. Tlchottea says:

Maybe he had a febril seizure from a rising temperature. My son had one at about Jayden’s age. Scariest thing!

  3. Rose says:

How frightening, I hope he is okay.

  4. Jen WInd says:

My youngest daughter just went through a fibral seizure also. One of the scareist things to ever happen to me in my life.

    I hope he is okay.

    poor kid 🙁

I hope this story is overblown. Too sad.

  7. Syko says:

He’s a little cutie, I hope he’s okay. Kids can have the most amazing medical things going on, but then seem to recover from them quickly, and I hope that’s the case here too.

  8. mel says:

my thoughts are with the britney and her son. seizures run in my family so they can be devastating if you’ve never seen someone have one.

  9. Anni says:

i like britney and her sons are too cute. i hope he´s okay…i can´t imagine how terrible this must be for i have no kids.

  10. caribassett says:

That’s awful. I hope he is ok, poor little guy. Britney and Kevin must be terrified.

I know it’s not the same, but one of my cats had a seizure once and it was TERRIFYING. I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s your CHILD.

Poor guy. I hope he’s OK. And I feel really bad for Britney here – first time she gets to take her boys out of California and this happens. Obviously a coincidence, but still. You know people are going to jump all over it. Bad all around 🙁

I read you had not found any American sources. TMZ has photographs, which somewhat verify.

What moderation, Ilikebratwurs? It’s a pretty relaxed site. You only get thrown into moderation by using certain key words which a lot of spammers use, and the people who run this place are pretty good about checking frequently and getting you out of it. You aren’t in moderation because you cursed or used a sexy word, it’s because you used some word like “rich” or “single” or something that the people who spam for the dating sites use.

I started having seizures out of the blue when I turned 30, and after what seemed like millions of tests, nobody could figure out why. Fortunately, with the right medication, I’ve been seizure-free for three years and counting, so hopefully little Jayden can move past this without it impacting the rest of his life.

  15. prissa says:

AWWW! I really hope the little guy is okay. Thank God Brit is back in her sons lives and she was there with him and is helping to get him through this!!!!

  16. dr.grrl says:

    hey Codzilla,

have you considered acupuncture to help with your seizures since western medicine didn’t find anything wrong?

if you don’t mind me asking, what Rx are you taking?

(i’m a doc in real life and play one on tv too! 😀 )

  17. Mairead says:

Aww the poor mite. Hope he’s feeling better. And long may your respite from seizures continue too Codzilla. I can’t imagine how frightening they coud be.

  18. Syko says:

I was just reading over on AOL that he apparently had some sort of allergic reaction to something and had severe hives, but is now fine.

Maybe they got the wrong flavor Cheetos?

  19. dr.grrl says:

    off brand cheetos!
    getcha every time 😉

  20. Codzilla says:

dr.grrl: Thanks so much for the advice. I’ve been taking Keppra, and haven’t had a seizure since starting the medication. (Even through two pregnancies.)

Mairead: Thanks for the well wishes. 😀 After all this time, I’m fairly confident we’ve nipped it in the butt.

“Jayden had to be rushed to the hospital in Kentwood about 25 miles away from Britney’s family home.”

The hospital they took Jayden to is in McComb, MS–not Kentwood. I did my ER rotation there! 😀

  22. Jeanne says:

Hope the little guy’s alright. They’re 2 of the cutest boys. Do the right thing Brit, why not quit entertaining for now, move back to La. so you can be with those boys more. They grow up so fast and you’re missing so much. It’s a shame!
