Evan Rachel Wood confirms breakup with Marilyn Manson

Evan Rachel Wood, 21, has confirmed her breakup with shock rocker Marilyn Manson, 39, and has revealed a few more details about the end of their relationship. She told People Magazine they broke up, but denied it had anything to do with Manson kicking her brother out of the guest house on his property, a story she calls “completely false.” She also says she’s not dating her co-star in The Wrestler, the much older Mickey Rourke, 56.

Evan issued a statement to People on Friday confirming the breakup and denying that it had anything to do with her brother and saying that “No further comment will be made and we request our privacy at this time.” She then went on to give several more statements to People and US Weekly about the end of her relationship.

Friday: We broke up, no further comment will be made

“Manson and I both decided to take some time apart so we could concentrate on work. Someone used that opportunity to kick us while we were down and sell a completely false story,” the actress, 21, explains in a statement exclusively to PEOPLE.

Stories of the couple splitting in a bitter fight over Wood’s brother Ira, who had been living with the pair, getting kicked out of the guest house by Manson, 39, started popping up this week.

“Manson owns the house he lives in. My brother has never stayed there and the person that said such horrible things about Manson being ‘controlling’ and ’emotionally abusive’ is certainly no source ‘close’ to me,” Woods says. “Manson has been by my side and taken care of me through the best and worst times. I love him as a person and as an artist. I will always be proud to have been a part of that.

“If any more attacks are made on us, it is the act of a desperate, selfish person, who is angry to no longer be a part of my life. No further comment will be made and we request our privacy at this time.”

Sunday to People: I’m not dating Mickey Rourke

“Spread the word – I’m not dating Mickey Rourke,” Wood told PEOPLE at Sunday’s Hollywood Life 3rd annual Behind the Camera Awards in Hollywood. “Everybody thinks we’re dating and we’re not.”

That’s a sentiment the 21-year-old actress reiterated in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE: “Mickey and I bonded while shooting The Wrestler and we became friends, but nothing more. I guess, because of my recent break up, I will be linked to many people, but I am not interested in pursuing a relationship at this point in my life. Any such rumor should not be taken seriously.”

She continued, “We are proud of the film we made together and I hope people will focus on the film and not get distracted by any nonsense.”

Sunday to US Weekly: I will always love Manson, I’m not dating anyone else

“I’m always going to love him and respect him,” she told Usmagazine.com Sunday at Hollywood Life’s Behind the Camera Awards in Hollywood.

Asked how she is feeling, she told reporters, “I’m doing fine, you know, as best as can be expected.”

She denied reports that they called it quits after Manson kicked her brother Ira out of his guest house.

“You know, it’s not the nasty thing everybody thinks it is,” she said. “We’ve both got incredible things going on right now. He’s making an amazing album – I’ve heard some of it, and he should be very proud of it.

“You know, I’ve got [the upcoming drama] The Wrestler going on, and I’m focusing on that,” she added.

Of the split, she said, “It’s not a bad thing. It’s life – it happens.

“But now, it’s like the story that comes right after the breakup [is]: Who am I dating now?” she said. “So right now, I’m just enjoying being on my own. It’s just not in the cards right now.”

She denied reports that she is romancing Mickey Rourke, her co-star in The Wrestler.

“Everybody thinks we’re dating, and we’re not. Spread the word – I’m not dating Mickey Rourke!” she said. “You know, we developed a close friendship. He’s a great guy, a talented guy. He’s been through it all, and [we had] such intense shoots, I think, because we played father and daughter [in The Wrestler]. I think he’s just kind of trying to take me under his wing.”

I get that she’s just promoting her film and is trying to answer reporters’ questions about her breakup, but does she need to talk to US Weekly and People and tell them the same thing? Maybe a little more discretion would have been in order.

Why isn’t anyone asking the obvious: “Why have you transformed yourself into a cheap Dita Von Teese lookalike?”

  2. elisha says:

She rubs me the wrong way. She reminds me of Dominque Swain (when she’s not trying to be Dita 2.0), who I just LOVE. I’d rather see all of Rachel’s roles going to Dominique.

  3. CB Rawks says:

Damage is done, girl. You look like Elsa Lanchester’s unattractive little sister.

  4. James Davis says:

    blech! I’d hit that………with a two by four! 😆

  5. Kaiser says:

I’ve said it before, but I think she’s really ballsy. “Meh” about her career, but she sounds interesting in interviews.

  6. Anni says:

    duh! 🙄

  7. brianne says:

she was so beautiful in across the universe. This look is definitely not my favorite, she’s so young to be sporting such an over made up look like this.

  8. Codzilla says:

I find it really bizarre that she keeps referring to him as “Manson” in the interviews. They were dating, not running against each other in a political campaign. Maybe that’s what his friend call him or something …

  9. Lauri says:

The real question is…why would she have dated him to begin with? He is one of the few people I’ve seen in my life has has absolutely nothing whatsoever – not a single feature – that is attractive about him. Adding to that, the fact that he has gone out of his way to make himself as ugly as possible, and, well, all I can wonder is why ANY woman would acknowledge his existence, much less enter into a relationship with him.

    Just hideously ugly to me.

  10. Mairead says:

I know Codzilla – I thought that was odd too.

And I agree with everyone on the makeup – Dita does it in a far more flattering way. She’s put a lot of thought and planning into her look, and I’m afraid Evan just looks like a painted pastiche, with blonde roots showing.

Hopefully she’ll keep the clothes but take a scrubbing brush to all that emulsion on her face. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in anything, but I’ll take everyone’s word that she’s a good actress. All the more of a shame it is that she’s going down this pantomime route.

    As for Mickey Rourke… *shudder*

  11. Michelle says:

Why does she refer to him as “Manson”, which is technically his last name (for stage)? Weird. But, I guess Marilyn sounds weird too…or Brian, hehe.

  12. Obvious says:

I have a friend and everyone calls him by his last name. Friends, family girlfriend. It’s jsut the way it is. Sorta of like everyone I know calls me by my middle name.

And alot of time magazines will changes names to the alst name anyways once we know who they are speaking of.

  13. Megan says:

Wow Dita knockoff much. She looks terrible in that last pic. What happened to the pretty blonde? Or are you required to look like a gothic dominatrix to date Manson?

  14. mollination says:

Everyone praises Dita all the time. “Timeless, beauty, classic, ect.” and we give Rachel Wood “Overdone”????????

  15. Chamalla says:

Marilyn Manson is actually a pretty smart, articulate guy. Weird, sure, but he seems to have a brain. I’ve always had a weak spot for really smart, intense men – maybe not to MM’s extreme – but I can see the appeal.

Wood is a lovely, lovely girl – I agree she’s really over doing her face. Be fresh faced while you’re 21 and can still get away with it, girl….

  16. devilgirl says:

I always love the stock “Love him/her as a person and an artist” comments. What else would she love him as? A lizard and a postal carrier? I thought it was peculiar too, Codzilla, the Manson thing. Maybe it’s their hip way of referring to eachother.

  17. vdantev says:

    Wow Dita knockoff much.etc.

MM was turning Evan into a mini-me of Dita, so don’t blame her. He might be ugly as sin, but he’s got that dark mysterious artist thing some girls find attractive, I guess. He is one hell of a performer though- having seen him onstage.

  18. Buttercup says:

I saw MM on a chat show the other night (Graham Norton), and he came across as funny, intelligent, instense and certainly had a kind of dark charisma, so I get why women would be drawn to him.

I hope that like Rose McGowan before DVT, that Evan gets a new look once she is over this break up, it doesn’t do much for her.

  19. Dingles says:

Being Dita’s, er, Evan’s age, I don’t find it odd that she dated Manson.

If anyone’s ever seen him in interviews, you’d know that he is extremely intelligent, thoughtful and well-spoken. He’s talented, creative and has achieved alot in his life. He’s also an older man, which is something exciting and kind of taboo for young women. Yeah he wears makeup and alot of black, but guys, he’s an ~artist.~ They’re allowed to do weird shit. Honestly if I met a man that exuded his kind of intensity, I’d probably find him very attractive as well.

  20. Rebecca says:

Mollination: I believe that the difference between ERW’s look and Dita’s is that Dita understand the ol’ saying: you can overdo your lips, and you can overdo your eyes, but never at the same time.

  21. gg says:

    😆 😆 😆 😆 Devilgirl!

If she does in fact call him ‘Manson’, it’s probably because calling him Marilyn sounds ridiculous. Or else the quotes weren’t really quotes, as usual.

Please go back to the normal look, Ms. Wood, you look like a Jersey Hooker looking for another wad of gum to chew up.

  22. JaundiceMachine says:

At least Dita looks professionally made up. Poor Evan looks like she shlacked her face. It looks like a stock 1950’s burlesque mask is affixed to her head – just really unnatural.

But then again, she could be going for the “plastic replica” look. It’ll be interesting to see how she wants to portray herself in the next couple of years. Not everyone can look good as a brunette.

  23. Viggolover says:

I much prefer ERW with her natural hair colour and fresh faced look. She is so young she should be embracing it, not making herself look older – or like someone else.

I think the reason Dita can pull off her look so effortlessly is that she is older and it is more a lifestyle than an image for her.

As for Evan referring to MM as Manson (if it is correctly quoted) that is not unusual in Australia, most people refer to close friends or family with nicknames or their last name. It is very common here.

I cant see what the appeal is with him though – I get that some women are into the artsy thing and all but there is ugly that is still interesting and even sexy and then there is UGLY.

I have seen MM live on stage though and he is a wonderful theatrical performer. His stage shows are very impressive and inspired.

  24. Christina X says:

I don’t like Evan Rachel Wood’s makeup because it seems phoney and forced.

You know how some people say that all you need is to be comfortable to be to pull off a certain look? Well, case in point.

Everything about her just screams “I’m trying too hard”.

And I guess I speak for the minority because I have never been shocked, nor aroused by Marilyn Manson, and I’m a very dark, offbeat woman.

He’s just always crossed me as a very vain, hypocritical person.

  25. I choose me says:

“I always love the stock “Love him/her as a person and an artist” comments. What else would she love him as? A lizard and a postal carrier?”

😆 @devilgirl. I’m delurking to say that you are officially my favourite poster for the day.

    😆 😆

  26. Jeanne says:

Leave her alone, everyone’s allowed to go through a weird phase. Maybe the drugs are wearing off.

  27. Mugsy says:

She’s got nuthin’ on Dita Von Teese. Stop trying to steal Dita’s style Rachel!! You already got her man!

  28. Renee says:

Manson loves the vintage style I dont think she was trying to be like dita infact thats probably the opposite of who she is period or manson wouldnt be with her for obvious reasons. I do wish she would tone down the make up more and keep her hair its natural color the dark hair doesnt fit her well in this pic
