Snooki and J-Woww’s spinoff show gets police protection by way of taxpayer money

The inevitable “Jersey Shore” spinoffs have now commenced with Snooki and J-Woww preparing to take over Jersey City for their new MTV program. Of course, these two ladies (and I use that term in the very loosest sense) aren’t really moving in on the entirety of the second-largest city in New Jersey, but it might feel that way to taxpayers. As you can see in these photos, the Jersey City is investing a non-negligible amount of police power to protect this firehouse, which will be home to both Snooki and J-Woww during the filming of their show. They haven’t even moved in at this point (but are expected to do so at any moment), yet as part of the permit deal that was worked out with MTV, the city will provide a minimum of four police officers at all times. Whether these officers are charged with protecting the girls or the city of Jersey City, well, that’s up for debate:

Snooki and Jwoww will be on some seriously thin ice when they begin shooting their new reality show in Jersey City … because the cops will be assigned to watch their asses AT ALL TIMES.

TMZ has learned … officials in Jersey City refused to a grant a permit to shoot the show UNLESS they agreed to some seriously strict rules.

1) The show must allow at least four Jersey City PD officers to be stationed at Jwoww and Snooki’s home at all times.

2) The cops will stay with the cast and crew when they leave the home. Cops have agreed to keep an appropriate distance from the operation, so they don’t get in the way of production.

3) If MORE cops are called in to handle an incident due to events related to the show, producers MUST reimburse Jersey City for all related costs.

Officials have also made it clear … cops are taking the situation very seriously and will take action … even on the cast … if any state or city laws are broken.

Ultimately, producers agreed … and got the permit. Production is scheduled to begin later this month.

Doesn’t this seem like a huge misappropriation of taxpayer dollars? It’s not like Snooki and J-Woww are nearly as predisposed to get into trouble as the male members of the “Jersey Shore” cast. And sure, Snooki is often a drunken mess, but J-Woww’s mama bear tendencies have a way of reigning in the Snickers. If you ask me (and you haven’t), this spinoff is going to be dull as hell, and assigning police officers to the “Snooki beat” will necessarily deprive other parts of Jersey City from law enforcement services. What a waste.

Granted, we don’t know all the specifics, but from what is known, this seems like a huge misappropriation of resources. This show will add no value to the world at all. I hope there is more to this story that will make it understandable to use tax payer funded police protection.

don’t celebrities pay for their own security?

I’m from Jersey City, and this is rather upsetting (but isn’t out of character with how poorly the city is run). Jersey City could definitely use the police officers everywhere else to police its rather substantial problems, and not babysitting these two and their idiotic show. Ugh. MTV should cover these costs 100%. It’s not like they’re doing anything for the city tourism-wise, fame-wise. etc. Terrible.

  4. Skins says:

This show won’t last a month. Jwow is a total bore, and Snook’s act won’t play for long without the other tools around to drink and party with her. Total flop

  5. lettylynton says:

Everyone getting up in arms about the Jersey shore ‘kids’ is about as stupid as everyone who threw a fit over Marilyn Manson when he first became popular. I look forward to their spin-off.

Just when I thought we were done with these people.

  7. Jezi says:

Ever since JWOWW got with Roger, she’s been boring as hell. Maybe it’s because she can’t move her face from the botox and fillers. Snooki just tries to hard. They both have had their time and need to go away. And I was a Jersey Shore fan and these two were my faves.

I agree with you, but I have to say Jenni looks good in that orange dress.

    • Erinn says:

Yeah, I mainly agree with you. I really like Jenni, though. Even though she’s gotten kind of bland. She’s the most sensible of the group, definitely my favorite. JS is my guilty pleasure show, and I do look forward to it. I used to love Snookie, but I find she’s gotten extra obnoxious lately. I really don’t know how well this new show will go though.

Geez Snooki, all the money in the world can’t buy you class. Soooo cheap looking, all the freakin time!

  9. Anastasia says:

I like Jenni, Snooki is good to laugh at, but if they disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn’t care.

  10. Hehastheherp says:

Why did Jenni do “that” to her face? That’s all I can think about. I’m sure Snooki will try to hump a cop. Any takers?

Another Jersey Cityite here, and despite Jersey Shore being a guilty pleasure of mine, I am *not* looking forward to the new neighbors. I’m afraid filming will be disruptive, but I’m hoping my fears are overblown. I don’t think the show will be much good, though; the (questionable) quality has declined with each season.

Well, damn the bad luck, I thought the sloppy-drunken, no talent, Hoopty-Hose-Bag was gone……no such luck, huh? I feel the same as I’ve always felt, Snookie could be a cross between a garden gnome and a troll doll. It would be way more interesting to watch, and alot less brain cells would be killed while filming the latter two. What a waste of time and money.

  13. JCGirl says:

I too am from Jersey City. These police officers, all of them, are being paid 100% by MTV. Regardless if JWoww and Snooki being here is a good or bad idea…taxpayer money is NOT being used at all.
