Britney’s son Jayden allergic to… fried chicken?

It’s been revealed that Britney Spears’ youngest son Jayden had an allergic reaction to something he ate this past weekend, and that’s why he was hospitalized. At first it was reported that Jayden had suffered a seizure, but it turned out that wasn’t the case. What’s odd about the whole situation is that supposedly Jayden’s food allergy is to fried chicken.

Britney Spears’ son Jayden James’ recent hospitalization was down to an allergic reaction to fried chicken, doctors believe.

The two-year-old tot – who was rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Sunday after suffering a suspected seizure and going into a “vague and unresponsive state” – had eaten the food from a nearby takeaway establishment an hour before falling ill.

While he was at the medical centre, doctors performed a variety of tests on Jayden in a bid to discover what had caused the terrifying reaction.

A statement posted on Britney’s Web site Tuesday read: “Doctors concluded he had a reaction to something he ingested.”

Jayden has now been discharged from hospital after being treated.

It’s unlikely that he’s actually allergic to fried chicken. It’s probably one of the ingredients. That’s like being allergic to tuna fish and being told you’re allergic to tuna casserole. Yes, you can’t have it, but you’re not allergic to the entire thing, just part of it. I’m allergic to nuts – truly the bane of my existence – so I’ve dealt with food allergies for a long time. I’m guessing Jayden is probably allergic to something in the batter or the oil the chicken is fried in. Being allergic to chicken itself is unlikely though not impossible.

Britney was commended by K-Fed’s lawyer for the way she handled the situation. She must have been paying close attention to Jayden to notice the change in behavior.

Meanwhile, Mark Vincent Kaplan – the attorney for Kevin Federline, Britney’s ex-husband and primary carer of Jayden and the couple’s other son, three-year-old Sean Preston – revealed Kevin was impressed with the way 26-year-old Britney had dealt with the situation.

Kaplan said: “I think that whatever it is, a food allergy or some other case, we don’t know yet. We’re pleased that someone was aware enough to see that he was having some sort of reaction and do what was necessary to make sure there were no chances taken and got Jayden to the appropriate facility and got the appropriate evaluation to be timely.

“I anticipate that Kevin and Britney as concerned parents will exchange information and satisfy themselves that what happened was a freak occurrence and do what they have to do to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.”

Britney was obviously really on the ball. They keep talking about this “vague and unresponsive state” but I wonder what that really means. If I were a parent I’d think the kid was sleepy or something. It’s lucky that Britney realized something else was going on, since food allergies can lead to anaphylactic shock and death – pretty quickly in some cases. Something tells me they’ll be avoiding fried chicken for a long, long time just to be safe.

I’m glad it was nothing major and that noone jumped to conclusion on this. Things do happen. I know Britney has alot of support now with her family being back in her life, so I know they wouldnt let anything happen to her kids.

  2. Holly says:

They should check the oil. Sometimes the same oil is used for different kinds of foods that are allergens, like fish.

  3. WTF?!?! says:

She must be devastated. That’s one of her basic food groups.

  4. Kaiser says:

Agree, Jaybird. I bet the chicken was fried in peanut oil – the Southern way.

  5. Syko says:

I would find it hard to believe he’s gotten this old without having eaten chicken, so it must be the type of oil (or lard – it IS the Spears bunch we’re talking about here) or one of the seasonings.

  6. Jewssip.com says:

Guess Brit is going to have to give up being “country” and lose fried chicken from her dinner table.

  7. CJ says:

It’s probally the oil it was fried it or something that was fried in the oil PRIOR to the chicken.

KFC uses peanut oil not to fry their chicken

CB, in response to your point on the “vague and unresponsive state” I think you would definitely recognize it as a problem and not think the kid was just sleepy. I’ve got a friend who’s son gets seizures when he has a fever and, per her description, he sometimes gets that way before seizing. It’s lack of eye contact or response to sound or touch, she said as he gets really close to seizing, his eyes will roll back into his head and he may even drool a little. One way or another though, there are clear signs that something is wrong, and that’s what I think of when I read the quote about JJ’s condition. Poor kid… and poor family too, for that matter! Must have been very frightening!!

SOUNDS LIKE A REACTION TO PEANUT OIL! My daughter has a severe allergy to peanuts and soybeans. She has had to be taken to the emergency room after eating totally random foods that have been prepared with peanut oil–even if it is a miniscule amount. You would not believe how many foods (even cookies and different kinds of chips) have peanut/peanut oil traces in them…If Jayden does have a peanut allergy, his parents and caregivers are going to have to be very, very vigilant because the next reaction may be worse.

  10. LondonParis says:

I highly doubt that Britney was actually the person to realize that he had become unresponsive. I mean, you know that was a nanny on that mess.
I will say though, that she seems to be doing way better (she’s definitely looking much better) and I LOVE her new song…

Since he’s ok and not hurt…

HAHAHAHA!!! Does no one else find a smattering of hillbilly humour in this?

  12. KDRockstar says:

I’ve been allergic to peanuts/peanut oil forever. My parents didn’t believe me and thought I was a picky eater. Each incident became worse until, as an adult, I ate a donut *next to* a peanut-covered pastry and ended up being intubated at the hospital.

    Get an epi-pen, Brit.

And even with my severe allergy, the first thing I thought of was, “Kiss my grits, it ain’t the cheetos?”

  13. vdantev says:

Dollar says it’s a gluten reaction to the flour or the peanut oil it was cooked in.

  14. Hollz says:

KFC soaks there chicken in Milk, so it could be a milk allergy, found that one out the hard way! (Not saying they ate at KFC, just saying I bet that KFC isn’t the only place that does that)

  15. kate says:

unlikely its a gluten reaction…that is an intolerance, not an allergy. more likely a peanut oil reaction, which can actually kill you if you are allergic. and does anyone else find it odd that brit’s getting commendation for how she handled it? any decent mother would certainly notice if her kid when into a seizure. ah, celebs…they are so not like us.

  16. Aspen says:

Wow! Poor kid! The first stories about this just said he had hives (which are horrible, don’t get me wrong).

But peanut allergies are no joke.

    I’m glad he’s okay.

And JMC…yes. I admit it. I giggled. I said, “Oh, Lord, it had to be fried chicken,” and giggled.

  17. SolitaryAngel says:

@ JayBird: “Rushed to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Kentwood, Louisiana”…Once again, I have to say that SMRMC is located in McComb, MS–NOT Kentwood.

  18. Rio says:

I wouldn’t call fried chicken “hillbilly”, personally (and I am partly descended from “hill people”, so I ought to know).
I’d bet it was something in the oil used to fry, as well. While not allergic to anything, I’m a vegetarian and I long cut fried food out of my diet since I can rarely be sure of what it’s actually been fried in.
Being a vegetarian Southerner is a bizarre thing– I’m probably the first person who’s ever moved back to the country and LOST 30 pounds.

  19. Kristin says:

    WTF- Lmfao. That was great.

  20. Christina X says:

    Poor kid!

He’s missing out on the epic ohm nom nom that’s fried chicken.

  21. Sickitten says:

Jewwsip, Brit should go kosher, no?

  22. Cal says:

Fried Chicken to a 5 year old?! pure Louisiana trash ya’ll. 😀

  23. Christina X says:

    OMG OMG OMG

She fed her son chicken! OMG!

    ANDREA YATESx2,000,000!

  24. Trashaddict says:

OK, one other theory and it’s worrisome: he may have had a delayed choking episode on a chicken bone. We’re talking Britney’s kid here, I’m kinda surprised he wouldn’t have had fried chicken before?? And milk and peanut allergies might show up sooner than that. So if he develops pneumonia down the line, look again, docs, the bone’s still in there! The other possibility is they knew he choked on a bone and dealt with it, but don’t want K-Fed pitching a fit and are keeping it quiet.

  25. RaraAvis says:

Although a peanut allergy is certainly possible, he could also be allergic to a native spice, or even to MSG. But I’m sure he has good health care. They’ll find it.

  26. Jag says:

Sounds like the doctors need to do some more digging. Sending him home without a concrete diagnosis leaves him in danger of it happening again, if it’s an allergy.

  27. Heather says:

It is possible he is allergic to the chicken. My husband has been allergic to chicken (and turkey, duck, etc) since he was Jayden’s age (he is now 33). He still can’t eat it. His throat closes up and his eyes get red.
