Boshoff: Prince Harry plans on living in the UK for ‘the next 12 to 15 years, minimum’

Before the Sussex family even visited Highgrove in July, the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff had a big exclusive about the then-upcoming visit. As it turned out, a few parts of her big exclusive turned out to be true, including Prince Harry and Meghan’s plan to “reverse Sussexit” and move back to the UK with their two children. It felt absurd at the time, and even more absurd after Harry’s visit was marred by security issues, a lawsuit defeat, a rescinded invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace and the British media’s completely deranged behavior. Well, the Sussexes decided that all of the chaos, drama and danger was just what they wanted constantly. They will likely arrive back in Britain in a matter of days, if not hours. Boshoff’s July exclusive was ten lies and a truth, but the one truth was the big one, so now we have to listen to what she says. She had a big new exclusive about what her royal/Sussex sources are telling her. If even a third of this is correct, it’s horrifying. Some highlights:

Everything is moving quickly: Their return, though, is moving at a cracking pace. The family is currently packing up in Montecito and they are due to arrive in the UK imminently. ‘H arrives this weekend,’ said a friend yesterday.

Harry really wants his kids educated in the UK: I’m told that the only real motivation for the relocation is Prince Harry’s fervent desire to give their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, a gold-star education, and for him that means it simply has to be in a UK school. He and Meghan, say friends, have been kicking this idea around ‘for years’ but became very serious about it last year, to the point of obtaining prospectuses and speaking to headteachers.

How long this move has been discussed: ‘Meghan has been aware of Harry’s views and discussing with him how they will bring the children up for years. It is not sudden,’ says a friend. The friend adds that the King was told ‘long before the weekend’ that sending the children to school in the UK was what they hoped to do, and the King also understood that Harry felt Archie was far too young to start boarding, so it would mean a family return to the UK. His school will indeed be in, or close to, the Cotswolds, and the Sussexes are looking for a country house nearby with a budget of around £8million.

Harry intends to spend 12-15 years in Britain: The intention, according to Harry, is to be here for at least the next decade. A friend says: ‘The way he sees it is that he will be here for the next 12 to 15 years, minimum. He sees himself as a full-time father and he will be here for them spending every Saturday watching Archie play rugby. That is the agenda. He and Meghan are the best and most committed parents. They are the people who tell their kids: ‘no tablets [screens] at the dining table.’ ‘There is no hankering after a royal status or royal engagements, it is not about that. He specifically doesn’t want to do that. This is about Harry wanting what is best for them and he wants them to be raised British, in Britain, and go to a public school. That is what the move is about.’

Prince William wasn’t blindsided: Harry’s friend says: ‘The King has been well aware of what Harry wanted for some time and on their visit in July he knows that they were looking around schools. William has also been aware for about six months. There is no question of anyone being ‘blindsided”.

Harry plans to be the full-time parent while Meghan goes back-and-forth to California: The plan now is that he will indeed be the key at-home parent, while Meghan travels back and forth to their home in Montecito, California. Her As Ever business is based in California, and sells the Californian lifestyle – rosé wine, flower sprinkles and jams. Their production company, Archewell, has offices in Los Angeles and staff there who are developing a number of film and TV dramas….So Meghan will be left to try to earn money and keep their media dreams alive in America (they still have a ‘first look’ deal for their projects with Netflix) while Harry returns to Britain, living probably not far from Highgrove where he was raised, and continues with the British-based patronages and charity work which he has undertaken throughout the Megxit period. It seems likely that he will add in some new charities, in the areas of veterans and mental health. Meghan will ‘come and go’ and is apparently already plotting out which weeks she will need to be here, and when she will be in California.

School holidays: The plan is for Christmas to be in Montecito – so no awkwardness for the Royal Family gathering at Sandringham – and for lots of time during the school holidays to be spent as a family in California where Meghan’s mother Doria lives. ‘Meghan will need to spend quite a bit of time in the US,’ says a friend. ‘She can’t just dial in, she will need to be there.’

The Sussex briefings are purposefully downplaying the marital strain: The reality seems to be that the move is long term, but that it will involve school terms in the UK and holidays in the US for Harry and the children, and more time than that in the US for Meghan. Naturally, the prospect of geographical separation between the couple, who were married in 2018, is not a narrative which Team Sussex want to promote. Indeed, the idea of it has set a hare racing about the state of their marriage.

Harry is deeply unhappy & Meghan agreed to this move to save the marriage: ‘Meghan is not doing this because she wants to,’ they say. ‘She is doing it because she believes she has to. She does not want to lose Harry, and she knows something has to change.’

Some friends disagree about the Sussexes’ marriage: A friend of the couple tells me it’s wrong to think these plans point to strains in the union, however. He says: ‘The marriage is not in bad shape, far from it, and this plan has been agreed by them both. They both feel it’s the best thing for the children and they both want to do this. You will see how happy they look when they are here. It’s very possible to have the kids at school in the UK and Meghan still working on her business in California.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Yeah, if Harry thinks he can plop his family down in the Cotswolds for 12 years and just live quietly while Meghan jets off to California every other week… that’s not an actual plan for a successful marriage for THEM. Many couples could make that work. Harry and Meghan cannot. Every single time Meghan enters or leaves that country, it will be headline news. The kids’ safety is a real concern. Meghan’s safety is a real concern. Meghan has built a business, a life and a support system in California – just the travel alone and the time away from her kids will leave her wrecked. And I genuinely think the rudest awakening for Harry is going to be his family’s reluctance to reconcile with him across the board. Right now, King Charles is making vague statements along the lines of “of course the king would like to see more of Harry,” but that’s not a real plan of action. God, I hope absolutely none of this is true. But again, Boshoff got one thing right so now we have to consider that she might be getting some of this correct as well.

I think Harry wanting the kids to get a taste of British education while he deals with everything around Invictus in Birmingham is the reason they are going back. I also think both CIII and W knew long before it came out that this was happening. I do not think they will stay longer than a year. And I still think they will spend Christmas in Portugal.

    • anotherlily says:

This situation is similar to military families where one parent, usually the father, spends extended periods away from his family. It also applies in many professional or business situations where one parent travels and one is home based. In high income families a professional Nanny is employed along with other domestic help.

Many children from outside the UK attend UK boarding schools and fly home for the school holidays. This would apply to the 12+ age group rather than children of Archie’s and Lili’s age.

My feeling is that Archie and Lili are here for the long term, not just a short experience of UK education, and that in due course they will become boarders.

      • Lurker says:

Never. Both Harry and Meghan are hands on parents who love to spend time with the children. Meghan never boarded, and Harry, according to Spare, wasn’t happy boarding at Eton. I don’t see them sending their children to boarding school ever.

Meghan had a great education in LA, her catholic school valued humantiarian work the same as formal education. Very likely she would love to enroll Lili in her old school once she is of age. She will try to find something similar for Archie.

Harry wants the children to experience British life and their heritage. The English class system? Not so much. He outgrew it, thanks to his time with the military and his work with veterans. Other than his brother he is no snob surrounding himself with aristocrats.

    • robinathefirst says:

This is what I think – they’re coming for the Invictus year (imagine the frequent flyer miles otherwise), and it’s a test. If it goes well, maybe they’ll stay longer. If not, they go back to California and they’ll know they tried.

      • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

There are no test. You dont move and uproot your kids, and separate them from their home, their lives, halfway around the globe just for a test. It’s for the long run 💯 . the kids are going to be in elementary school for quite a while. So probably thanksgiving, xmas & summer vacations in the states, and weekends/long weekends to portugal where they could have Doria and other cousins with them. I hope Doria is the one taking care of the Montecito house and the chickens!

    • Megan says:

I agree. I think this is a very short term move. I don’t buy that Harry thinks the kids can only be educated in England. The US has many exclusive boarding schools.

  2. Tis True, Tis True says:

He really had better be gathering armies in the Low Countries if he wants this to work.

The level of security they are currently paying for is just not sustainable. They are doing very well, but that is just a huge drain.

ETA Imagining that he can stay in the UK with his father gone and his brother against him is just sad.

  3. Tessa says:

I hope he also goes to see lily play sports. Scooter would be king then. Will scooter make things unpleasant again. There are top schools in the USA too. Some princes and princesses attended ivy league schools. Royals outside of the UK

    • BeanieBean says:

Exactly! He’s not just going to go to Archie’s games, he’ll go to Lili’s too! He’s not that kind of dad! And California has a terrific university system, any one of the big Cal State or UC schools would be a good choice for anyone.

  4. Crystal says:

Joss Stone mentioned that Harry had talked to her about her relocation back to the UK with intense interest at a WellChild event and that he was particularly interested in British schools.

I think we should take Harry’s own words from 2023 as definitive about this: ““The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.”

I think it’s a dangerous and silly move – while his feelings are understandable, what happened when he visited in July is not reassuring to me – but it’s not up to me.

I also think that those who think Harry feels the pull of his royal status are somewhat correct. This is something you can’t really explain unless you’ve been over there – I mean there are royal warrants on your laundry detergent and stuff in the UK and crowns on the mailboxes. It’s beyond a “royal/nonroyal” binary honestly. That doesn’t mean everyone buys into it, but if you do – and Harry has said he’s a monarchist – it’s potent.

    • GoodWitchGlenda says:

I agree about him missing being a Royal. Let’s be clear, he didn’t want to leave the monarchy. He wanted his wife to be treated better.

      • Liz says:

In my experience, it’s much more challenging to live in another partner’s country of origin, or even a third country altogether, if you each come from different cultures – even if they share a lot of similarities. Initially the experience is romantic and charming, as one partner introduces the other to his or her country, and both experience it with fresh eyes. Then with time and acculturation, homesickness kicks in and the longing for previously taken for granted familiarity morphs into rose coloured nostalgia. This is when a relationship can begin to develop small fissures. And this, is before kids. Suddenly cultural and societal values you weren’t even aware you had, rise to the surface and you want what’s best for your kids, based on your own experiences. For some, these conflicting visions become insurmountable. Now, add to all that, celebrity, family dysfunction, negative press and bad memories. Not an easy transition for anyone regardless of which country you settle in.

    • Rachel says:

Megan would never spend so much time away from her kids. If any of this is true they are headed for divorce.

      This is insanity.

      • Yvette says:

@Rachel … I personally think Meghan will only travel to the States when it’s absolutely necessary, and that the Sussexes will spend every holiday, school break, and summer break together in either Portugal or at their home base in Montecito–or Scotland, which they really seemed to enjoy.

  5. Where'sMyTiara says:

Halve the “10 year plan” and she’d be closer to target.

There are quality private schools in the US, so this emphasis on a British education is just more classist, xenophobic nonsense on the media’s part.

    • Becks1 says:

Especially considering that Harry did not have the best experience at his British schools, by his own admission.

      • anotherlily says:

From reading Spare I get the impression he enjoyed his school days. Eton was too academic for him but he still had fun there.

      • Becks1 says:

He sounded lonely and sad to me 🤷‍♀️

      • tc says:

Also, no offense to Harry – while he had a lot of “life learning” in the military one supposes, he, nor anyone in his family, is a shining example of British education. If anything, Meghan’s American education greatly outstrips his.

    • Diana says:

You’re not accepted as a member of the British upper classes unless you go to the right school and those schools are not in the US.

      • CN says:

These are the children of a British Prince. It is according to their own rules (the British), class inherited by blood, regardless of what school those kids go to. Their upper class status is secure for life.

      • Blubb says:

And? Who cares if he is accepted by the upper British class? That shouldn’t play a role where the children go to school. Honestly I don’t think that this old structures of upper classes do Britain any good. And seeing the prime minister out of Eton hasn’t impressed me much. Maybe the time for this schools is gone as is the time for the Royal family.

    • BeanieBean says:

Sorry, but to all those espousing the excellent private schools in the US–as a product of the public school education system (in Oregon) this really gets my hackles up. We gave good public schools, too! Let’s make sure our public schools are fully funded & teachers paid a decent wage!

  6. Duch says:

‘The marriage is not in bad shape, far from it, and this plan has been agreed by them both.”

    That’s a far cry from :

“they still love each other deeply and this has been the plan for some time”

It sounds strained, honestly — and unfortunately.

  7. Jayna says:

    Alison is a hack journalist.

  8. Hypocrisy says:

Seeing as how their marriage constantly is under attack by the media and BRF I can imagine it has bad patches. AS for the manic number of articles being published since the move became public, all of them somehow having insider information I will ignore the speculations that have an agenda…that agenda has always been to get Prince Harry and the children back to the UK and banish Meghan.

  9. Becks1 says:

So honestly most of this sounds relatively reasonable and along the lines of what we have been saying here – that the king has been aware of this plan for some time, that Harry doesn’t want the kids to board, that William even had an idea (maybe part of the reason for his crashout after the highgrove meeting is because he knew that confirmed this move), Harry and Meghan have been talking about it for a long time, etc. I also think the part about christmas in california and long stays in california is true. AND I appreciate the emphasis here on how this has nothing to do with trying to be a working royal again.

the two parts that I question are the time frame and Meghan working in CA – 12-15 years is a very long time for a “short term move” and frankly I dont see Meghan agreeing to commute to California for the next decade. She’s not going to miss that much time with her kids and such a lifestyle would impact her ability to have an actual life in England. I can see her doing that for a year, but not for the next decade. And that narrative also plays into the idea of Harry as just sort of a lost philanthropist who doesn’t understand money and Meghan as the breadwinner who supports the family.

    • Holz says:

I also think they will spend their time in California when school is out for summer.

    • MaisiesMom says:

That’s the sense I got. Harry really wants to do good and unlike his brother, is willing to put in the time. He has a work ethic, but one that only seems to function well in a certain context. In the US he was still a Prince but not OUR Prince. The framework was entirely different and I get the sense he was struggling with that.

Meghan understands not just the US system and how to work within it, but also the concept of wealth creation. Harry was raised not to think about money. She had to. That difference is showing.

    • LadyE says:

Yeah, I think this all tracks pretty closely to how I have been reading the news as this was announced. I will say that I am slightly unsure about the Meghan in CA long-term for work purposes. For right now and maybe the next few years, I can see a need for her presence with As Ever being in California. But, if the idea was to take As Ever international, I don’t really see that holding for in-person presence in the US.

I also don’t think this idea of significant in-person presence being needed for As Ever matches at all what’s been reported about Meghan doing more acting. It’s very, very normal for actors to move their families for a year plus for a movie or show season filming. And for one parent to be primarily stay at home with frequent visits when a relocation isn’t practical. I hope Meghan does get back into acting, though of course it’s up to her! But, the way the running of As Ever is being presented would exclude that. How would Meghan have been able to do season 3 of the Gentlemen (filmed in the UK) if she was planning on spending two weeks a month in California? That doesn’t make any sense. They are irreconcilable.

I don’t think Meghan’s plan for the next decade is only As Ever. And, I really don’t buy the idea that the only way As Ever can continue is if she’s basically based in California. I think she’s looking at doing much more. Why would she have WME representation if she’s just doing As Ever?

  10. Tessa says:

Scooter could do a lot of damage and he wont change .Meghan should stay close to the children.

  11. Julie says:

Harry is blowing up his entire marriage and placing his family at extreme risk for what? To hopefully reconcile with family who hate his guts and despise his amazing wife and lovely children? He’s been giving hints all along that his entire identity is tied to that family. The constant need to reconcile and force a relationship between his dad and his children that his dad doesn’t want. Low key, this also feels like a need to compete with his brother on his brother’s turf. Because really what is he trying to accomplish here and why does he need to be in that country for a year leading up to Invictus? This is very diabolical behavior placing the family in extreme physical danger and his wife in constant mental distress. This also has the potential to ruin her brand with the daily horrific headlines that are to come. He allegedly wants to sit at home and have Meghan do all of the heavy lifting??! Like wtf? Meghan would be smart to consider her options and leave if he tries to extend this bs past a year.

    • Kebbie says:

I really hope their marriage is completely solid, because she’s not going to be able to take the kids back to California if they separate. They’ll be settled in England and no judge is going to approve them being uprooted again in a year or five if they don’t make it as a couple and she wants to go back but he doesn’t.

    • LRB says:

Julie – really? Your comments are frankly nearly as bad as the UK Press – Meghan and Harry are adults and they know what the plan is and the state of their marriage – none of us do. Harry has always shown his love for Meghan so one has to assume there is a very real plan behind this, and to say Harry is diabolical isn’t good. As I have said before we are at risk of being as judgy on here as the British Press and we are better than that. Let’s wait and see how things pan out. They all arrived by private jet today at Birmingham airport, which suggests to me short term they are going to stay with Uncle Charles @ Althorp.

      • Lorelei says:

I’m as baffled by this turn of events as anyone, but calling Harry “diabolical” is a bit much, @Julie

  12. Mightymolly says:

I am underwhelmed by what I’ve seen of royals and aristos who’ve received Britain’s top educations. The RR can stop congratulating themselves on the rarified education system. They’re networking factories.

    • Eurydice says:

It’s not about the education. You can have an excellent education most anywhere. It’s about the connections, those follow you through life.

      • Chenni says:

What connection harry had when they didn’t help him at all. Plus what connection William has other getting drunk and going to publish on weekends ? Also what connection zara and Peter had and so does yorks where all failed in their life and circling royals .

      • Eurydice says:

@Chenni – well, you can’t rely on connections to do the work for you, you have to do some of it yourself. Connections open doors; you have to walk through.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Meghan is amazingly well connected and was so long before she met Harry, yet never set foot inside a British public school.

      • Eurydice says:

@Where’smytiara – the US isn’t the only country in the world and the UK isn’t Satan’s abode, despite the monarchy and press. There is value in connecting with other people.

    • bisynaptic says:

  13. JayBlue says:

The British education system may be better than the American one, but not by much.

I really feel this is about chucks health, and the invictus games. It’s the best chance harry is gonna get to give his kids a taste of a British childhood before scooter takes over and burns every bridge harry so much as glances at.

As for their marriage, I believe they have to be in a really good place to take this risk. Emigrating isn’t something you do as a last resort, it’s only something you can do when you have trust in each other.

    • Puff Updater says:

I agree that their marriage has to be strong to embark on a course of action that seems so foolhardy to outsiders. They know better than anyone what they can and can’t take, from the media and their rotten families, at this point. Worst case scenario, the 3 Ds: debt, divorce, and death. But that can happen anywhere. They are certainly reigniting interest in their stories! Can’t wait for The Crown version.

    • Isabella says:

In what way is British education better? The US is vast with many choices. The Brit system is designed around aristocrats and they seem a dim lot, judging by the royal family.

      • LRB says:

Really please can all the Americans stop. Don’t judge us all on the awful royals and the worse Press. Our top schools and top Universities are among the best in the world. Oxbridge, Durham, LSE have as many foreign students as say Harvard etc. My children were all educated in the British public school system ( public schools are private usually boarding like Eton) – and have come out as rounded individuals, with good friends and fantastic jobs. Us Brits on here don’t judge you for your country having elected Trump – please don’t judge us on a few idiots.

      • Becks1 says:

@LRB well people do judge us for Trump all the time and I can’t blame them, I wish he wasnt POTUS but here we are.

But, in the past week alone, there have been many digs and swipes at the American school system. Its not perfect, but we have many MANY excellent schools, public and private, at all levels, as I know England does as well.

Maybe we can all just lay off insisting one is better.

      • Aurora says:

@LBR I have relatives in the UK and have always enjoyed the time I spent there. Thankfully, the tabloids don’t represent the whole of your country anymore than Fox News represents the whole of ours. I think if any other well-off American was moving there, no one would bat an eye or blame them at the present moment. I’m just not sure Meghan will do well there longterm. The tabloid press despise her. Most of Harry’s old set of friends despise her. There are certainly far better people she could befriend there – and I hope she does – but how easy will that be while under the microscope of the British tabloids? I hope it works for them, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised by the idea that she’d agree to move back longterm.

      • Gah says:

I’m American and went to the top boarding school in the US. It is elite no doubt, but I also have an 11-year-old who carries a British passport and I have toward the schools in the UK as we consider what our next move as a family I have no doubt the UK system, especially for higher education is better than the US system not to mention the cost differential. My husband went to UK boarding school and while it was not too tier , it was still excellent. If this is indeed about education, I completely understand why Harry and Megan want their kids educated in the UK. Also, the quality of life is nice. It is slower paste and the food supply chain is better in the UK and you’re close to Europe. These are all things that we have considered as we manage what we do next.

    • Alex says:

@Jayblue Charles’s health is fine. BP just announced that he and Camilla will be going to the Caribbean for nine days at the end of October. He couldn’t possibly fly that far to the Caribbean if he were in poor health. Honestly, although his cancer isn’t completely cured, he is in good shape. Camilla got pneumonia after going to Australia and Samoa in 2024, but he was perfectly fine after the visit. Charles has cancer but he is fit, which is likely due to his non-smoking habit, regular exercise, and healthy diet.

  14. Donety says:

The one question that has come up is “What has Harry really accomplished that would keep him in California”? He hasn’t developed any programs or charities that are specific to the US which makes it much easier for him to relocate for as long as he wants. The first-look Netflix deal stipulates that they only get paid for projects they sell and since none of his ideas were picked up, no money has been generated. I bring this up because stay-at-home-dad Harry has more connections in the UK than the US and if he becomes the one doing school runs while Meghan maintains a base in California, who do you think wins that public relations battle?

    • ABritGuest says:

things Harry accomplished in USA in six years
      – Executive produced six titles including two documentaries- H&M & Me you can’t see that broke ratings records for Netflix and Apple and Cookie Queens which is Sundance Audience award winner. Has other content projects in development
      – Had fastest non fiction book of all time
      – Launched Better Up Pledge 1% commitment which included supporting the queens commonwealth trust leaders, veterans and underrepresented groups with free coaching & mental health resources
      – Set up Archewell Foundation. In US alone and just from memory Archewell set up yearly digital civil rights grant with NAACP, helped fund a yearly grant under the responsible tech cohort, funded a Marcy Labs tech program in NYC, helped evacuate thousands of Afghan women & families via donation to Women for Afghanistan, co chaired Vax Live & secured dollar for dollar commitments for COVAX totalling at least $3m, funded a playground for Uvalde with kaboom, repaired a women’s shelters roof in Texas, donated supplies to harvest home which supports homeless pregnant women, donated to various food banks in California after 2025 federal govt shutdown, donated to WCK & other charities supporting LA relief efforts, supported an app to help with fire relief efforts and Harry has been doing lots of mental health advocacy for first responders in Santa Barbara
      – In the six years Harry was awarded ESPN Pat Tillman award, Legends of Aviation and joint awards include Robert Kennedy ripple of hope award, NAACP President award, Project healthy mind humanitarian of year award and Humanity First Coalition Award

      • Donety says:

I didn’t say Harry hadn’t accomplished anything. I asked which of his endeavors require him to be in the US and none of the things you listed do.

    • ABritGuest says:

Also this is just wrong as under their first look arrangement Netflix has greenlit No way out- adaptation of an Afghan war memoir and a scripted series about polo set in Florida which has a writer and the producers behind Gossip girl and the oc attached- those were definitely more Harry ideas

Netflix also has greenlit romance drama Meet me by the lake and rom com the wedding date which I’d more see as Meghan’s projects seeing as she said she loves Rom coms.

A while back it was reported they had projects with other streamers & studios in development too so there may be further announcements.

bbc, itv etc are saying this isn’t permanent and Harry commented in Washington that he would be about launching a for profit venture for veterans. And haven’t heard he’s not with Better Up anymore . So idea he will be this guy staying at home fiddling his thumbs whilst Meghan does the heavy lifting professionally doesn’t ring true.

    • Puff Updater says:

Netflix would love a « first look » into this return to Britain, I bet.

  15. Kara says:

I don’t know what’s going on and it’s none of my business. They’re both adults. I don’t own them. I think Charles is ill and he wants to protect Invictus. Staying in the UK for a year some think may get him security as a private citizen. I don’t think he’s really a private citizen but once William takes over I’m sure it will be much worse and everything will be less friendly. Buying a house in the UK now is a good idea if they want to stay or visit in the future. Her best friend from college lives there and Misan Harriman and his wife and family. She has some friends there.

  16. ABritGuest says:

Alison didn’t know and report that this move was coming but suddenly knows these timelines 🤪. I get people don’t like the news but that doesn’t suddenly mean these people have credibility.

Harry and Meghan’s own 2020 statement said they wanted to split time between UK & USA. They kept Frogmore for years after their exit from royal duties & might have kept it to this day & have spent more time in uk as a family already if Charles hadn’t evicted them & if his palace minions hadn’t been blocking security. I personally always thought they would return to Uk at some point & try to do the original plan if they could resolve security issues. Maybe I should have written about it & claimed an exclusive 🤪

Harry has said he enjoys raising his children in California with the space it provides them AND in the security case that he misses the UK, wants his kids to know his homeland, that he loves and misses his country. Both things can co exist. Being from an immigrant family myself and friends with many, this is a sentiment I’ve heard often & they certainly aren’t royals. I don’t think it’s silly for anyone to miss their country even if there’s lots of problems in it.

I think it would be perfectly reasonable & not a sign of marriage problems or hating uk & this relocation if for however long this extended stay is, if Meghan also misses California, her mother, her friends in Montecito, LA etc at times. Hopefully with their statement of keeping the Montecito place etc she can connect with them often.

Yes, my family came to the US from Greece, but we would spend every summer back in Greece and the school year in the US. It was a normal thing for our community.

      • Smart&Messy says:

How did the adults in your family get a whole summer of vacation time from their jobs in the US? Or do you mean you spent the summer in greece as a child with relatives and your parents visited?

      • Eurydice says:

My mother was “stay at home” and my father’s work was international, so he didn’t always have to be in the US.

    • MaisiesMom says:

Anyone who has immigrated to a new country past a very young age knows that there can be a profound sense of alienation. Even if you really like your new home and find a life and loved ones there, you can feel unmoored. I felt that way for a long time when I moved from one coast to another in the US. My brother-in-law who moved to the US at 25 took YEARS to feel at home. Like, until his children were teenagers.

I’m not saying this is the right move for Harry or his family. But none of us can know what he’s feeling. I just hope they have excellent security and find a circle of supportive, loyal people wherever they land.

Seeing as people like Tom Sykes and Prince William are products of this “gold standard British education” I am underwhelmed and unimpressed.

      What about Mumblina Middlebum though?

Not only is she the bright bulb who prefers “Austrailia” to the more traditional spelling, and is quite creative with other things she’s written for public consumption — but she’s also the expert in olfactory methods of measuring quality, “can you test the smell by smelling it”, her question to the head tea master at Fortnum & Mason’s.

And she proved how much a Master’s in Art History is worth when she asked QEII in front of BBC cameras — are they (Fabergé eggs) still being made — as if the Russian Revolution never happened, and she couldn’t have looked it up before doing this planned trip to see her wedding dress displayed at Bucks House…

    • Blubb says:

I would throw Boris Johnson in this mess to. And the real question is: how much real talent is wasted in the working classes that never gets to the top jobs?

    • Lorelei says:

Yeah, and Eton always brags about having Boris Johnson as an alum as well, lol. Not exactly ringing endorsements.

ETA: Blubb, we were typing about Boris at the same time! Great minds, etc.

  18. Bings says:

This is nonsense and this woman has no clue what she is talking about. The information about the relocation came out exactly because if William knew about it, then you would too. Meghan would be unwise to have Harry stay home while she flies back and forth to California. And I do not see Meghan doing that at all.

  19. Brwneyedllama says:

It sounds as if Harry has been desperate to come back, which explains why they have continued to treat them all so shabbily. This will only worsen. I’m sure the Sussex kids are going to have a rough time of it. It’s a real shame 😔

    • Oxie says:

He’s definitely the driving force. I think Meghan was perfectly fine never going back. Overtime Harry realize he didn’t have the same goal. It’s unfortunate but they are married and have to some up with some kind of solution.

  20. Amy Bee says:

I don’t like how Harry’s friends continue to talk to the press. Why would they give out information to the press about when they will be flying in? It’s just ridiculous. The 12-15 year stay seems fantastical to me and goes counter to what a spokesman told the NY Times which was that they were spending the autumn in the UK and what the Times of London reported which was 6 months to a year. The piece is being written as if Meghan’s going to spending most of her time in the US leaving the children with Harry in the UK. Knowing that she doesn’t like being away from the children for too long I doubt the credibility of that assertion. Questions about the state of their marriage were inevitable given the narrative is now that Harry is unhappy in the US and wants the children to brought up as British and the British public school system.

    • Ameerah M says:

You actually think Harry’s friends are talking to the British press??

      • Amy Bee says:

        Unfortunately, yes I do.

      • Donety says:

You can hold Harry to whatever lofty standards you want but you don’t know who his friends are or what connections they have. Besides, friends don’t have to sign NDAs and will sometimes act in a way that they think benefits the person.

  21. ChillinginDC says:

I mean at this point I believe the King and William have known for a while. And two, I have been saying, this is not some short term thing. And I really rolled my eyes at the article saying Meghan is going to be earning money for the two of them. Makes it sound like Harry is going to be lazy AF while she does everything. Geez man.

    • BeanieBean says:

I have two women friends who each thought they were marrying a partner in life only to find they themselves were the breadwinners in the family, and each resented it like h*ll. Things can change after marriage.

  22. NoBS Please says:

All this is common sense, not evidence of Alison Boshoff having some superior insight into anything regarding Meghan and Harry. After all, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

As to the 12-15year timeline, that’s obvious BS just to create a more catchy headline: no-one, not even pretend mind-reading genius Alison B(S), can predict the future.

I do agree that M&H are exposing themselves to rather more time apart than previously. But hey, they would not be the first celeb couple to have to travel far away from home for work. I can imagine actor couples like Zendaya/Tom, Blake/Ryan R, John K/Emily Blunt etc are always jetting around the globe for work.

  23. Tuesday says:

Remember last summer when the rota kept reporting that Harry had put Archie’s name down for Eton? That was the beginning of my spidey senses tingling. I still didn’t quite believe it, but the reporting in June and July left me feeling like there was some truth in there. Go with God and all that, I guess.

    • Ciotog says:

We also got reporting that Harry was unhappy in California and didn’t want to do any commercial projects, that he wanted to lead a more royal lifestyle of philanthropy. This move seems to confirm that too.

  24. Eurydice says:

Well, I’ve always thought that Charles has known for quite some time. And there’s no reason William would not have been informed, as well. Also, wasn’t there a tiny mention that RAVEC would speed up their security review? I’d imagine that if Charles is ok with the Sussexes returning, then he’d want them to have some kind of security.

    • ChillinginDC says:

Yes there was a mention of the security review being back on.

Honestly, I wonder what is wrong with Harry when Charles purposely didn’t allow him accomodations in July. Like he keeps thinking something is going to change and it’s not.

    • Alex says:

They arrived today without police security. Frankly, Charles doesn’t care about Harry and his children. But it’s clear that Harry wants to mend his relationship with his father.

  25. LOLA says:

    Haven’t read all the comments.

I feel like they would be better off in Australia! We have an excellent education system. Or Canada!

  26. Fina says:

I still don’t know what to believe but if we believe it has something to do with British education then we should believe this. You don’t get gold star British education if you attend a British school for a year in primary school. The timeline of 12 years makes sense then. It would take both children to graduation. Btw out of curiosity I checked out some of the websites of private prep schools in the Cotswolds and particularly the term dates. It is really quite astonishing how often school is off. With long breaks between the three terms and then half term breaks during each term. I would guess Meghan can easily be enough in California if she just goes there during school leave and often takes the children with her. I could not imagine it. Long distance flights and jet lag are my nightmare and I try to avoid whenever possible. But then I also don’t fly first class, so it might be less of a nightmare for her

    • BeanieBean says:

I’ve had the opportunity to fly first class a few times now; it is NICE!!! Those lie-flat seats are just the greatest invention!

  27. line says:

My view is that their communication and some of the things they have done since leaving the UK have given the general public a partly misleading image of who they are. By presenting their departure as a break with the monarchy and, more broadly, with its system of privilege, people eventually attributed a political and ideological dimension to them that may simply never have been theirs.

That is why some people are still desperately looking for an explanation for their return that allows them to preserve that image: Charles is supposedly ill, something is supposedly being planned with William, Harry might have some particular role to play, the children supposedly absolutely need the British education system, and so on.

When there may be a much simpler explanation: after all these years of fantasizing about a life outside the monarchy, Harry may simply have realized that he was much more attached to that system than he wanted to admit. And now he wants his children to benefit from that environment and from the privileges that come with their status as well.

There is therefore no need to invoke Charles’s illness, William, a future regency, or whatever complicated theory people can come up with. Perhaps the reason is much more mundane: he misses the privileges that come with his position and wants them back.

The problem is that this explanation does not fit the image of the progressive, anti-establishment couple that some people have constructed around the Sussexes. Perhaps that is precisely why so many of you are searching so hard for other explanations.

If they really do want to return to the UK, raise their children there and give them the benefits of that environment, then perhaps it tells us something much simpler about their actual priorities: they may have wanted to live “outside the system,” but they may never have stopped appreciating its privileges.

And ultimately, they may not be all that different from other extremely privileged people. Nothing they have done since leaving strikes me as genuinely revolutionary. Even their approach to philanthropy remains fairly conventional and highly controlled in terms of its public messaging.

You can absolutely support some of their causes or believe that they were right to want a different life. But perhaps we should stop attributing a revolutionary dimension to them that they have never really demonstrated through their actions.

And I also want to be very clear about one point: we can defend Meghan and their children against the racist attacks and hateful rhetoric they face without necessarily buying into the entire narrative that has been constructed around the Sussexes. Protecting them from that kind of abuse seems like an obvious thing to do. But, for me, that is where it ends.

Defending Meghan and the children against racism does not mean that we have to turn Harry and Meghan into a revolutionary, anti-establishment, inherently progressive couple. We can condemn the racism they face while still looking critically at their choices.

Perhaps they are simply two very privileged people who wanted to change the conditions under which they exercise their privileges — without actually wanting to give up those privileges themselves.

    • Kate says:

Yes! And they would still be there if the firm agreed to their terms.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

As Line says, you can want them to be safe and not subjected to racist and misogynistic abuse and still recognize that this is the world Harry grew up in and still wants. But I am not at all sure that it is what Meghan wants. Does she have a say in how her children are educated?

    • ABritGuest says:

I think the issue is people have projected a lot of stuff which is NOT based on what they said or did. Like people assuming they would never return to the uk which isn’t supported by their actions (keeping Frogmore, fighting for security) or what they said (Harry saying just last year he misses uk, always loved his country, wants his kids to know his homeland).

On Oprah they said they would have stayed if they had been supported against press attacks. In another interview during spare he pointed to the king of Norway rebuking racism that his daughter’s Black husband received as an example of what BRF could/should have done. From tom Bradby 2023 interview it was clear that Harry is a monarchist but thinks it needs reform and doesn’t like the palace relationship with press involving leaking & planting against other members.

I am not sure why people thought they were on some abolish the monarchy type thing.

    • ChillinginDC says:

Thank you. 100 percent this! This actually allowed me to see I was projecting my beliefs onto them. Not one thing has shown that Harry wanted to leave the “system’ since he seemed totally OK with doing whatever his father demanded of him the last two years it seems and still kept allowing Meghan to get trashed in the tabloids. I will defend them against any racist attacks, but if Harry ends up on that balcony again, I think we all just need to admit that we were wrong and they were never really about Finding Freedom.

      • ABritGuest says:

And even Finding Freedom isn’t their words. That’s omid & carolyn’s book which we known from the fail court case was palace coordinated which is why certain accounts like the bridesmaid dress bust up differed when they spoke directly on it.

their own words when they were stepped back in 2020 was they wanted to remove the public interest argument the tabloids were using by stopping public funding and becoming financially independent. They also said then they wanted to split time between uk & North America. In 2021 on corden Harry said the press attacks was destroying his mental health and on Oprah he would have stayed if he had had support from his family but he was left with no choice after they didn’t.

I agree that more proximity to Harry’s relatives even just by being in same location is going to lead to even more negative stories and it will be interesting to see how their comms responds this time. We’ve had a few examples of their team directly pushing back on the palace eg when they claimed last year they weren’t briefed on his Toronto trip, when Charles tried to blame some dodgy donor on Harry and recently the snafu over BP’s offer over accommodation. So we’ll see.

but also the press in most countries have never needed a reason to trash a POC- see the tragedy over Professor Arday recently or in US coverage over mayor Mandami. As Meghan said on Oprah it was all happening just because she was breathing. And it never stopped when they left the uk.

      • ChillinginDC says:

I think that what baffles me, the press attacks won’t go away. But we got to see how it’s handled I guess.

      • ABritGuest says:

The press will be how it’s been – out for revenge because they left, because they called out their racist coverage & because H&M dared to take legal action against them & in some cases, were successful.

The uk press is more incessant because they feel entitled to the royal family so on top of the usual mocking & nasty opinion pieces etc more proximity in uk could mean more leaks of movements etc & and more physically invasive coverage. But this time the press aren’t necessarily under the impression that H&M won’t or can’t push back or take legal action for unlawful activity.

I just remembered this torygraph article from when they first left that said it was too late for Meghan in uk but not too late for Harry. And then royal commentators saying how Harry should visit the Uk with his kids and leave Meghan in America. So I see this fail article as a continuation of the desire to separate the couple. It is unlikely that the Meghan that was on Emma Grede’s podcast talking about loving to prepare school lunch & to be the parent volunteer for kids school activities is going to be away from her kids in Cali for weeks at a time. That seems like press wishful thinking.

And as much as some are understandably confused & anxious about this news, it does make me laugh that H&M are relocating to the uk TOGETHER. That certainly isn’t what the press and some of his family envisaged or had been hoping for all these years.

    • Lover says:

I agree with much of what you’re saying here. Harry has said he is a monarchist. I can buy that he misses his privilege and that M might want a taste of it too, if not for her then for her children. I think at the end of the day they are rich and privileged people who feel they and their children could benefit from the British elite class system. But let’s not pretend that Harry has not put out a narrative about the monarchy as an inherently abusive institution. He publicly stated that his father and brother were trapped in their roles and he felt sorry for them. He said his aunt Margaret had been trapped in misery her whole life due to being a spare. He made much of his shabby housing conditions, his financial dependence, the way he was blocked from choosing his own career freely. He more or less blamed the constant media harassment for his substance abuse, and extolled the joys of living on a different continent in meager circumstances, such as in military service, doing farm work in the Australian outback, and roughing it in African parkland. And he blamed the monarchy for his mother’s tragic life and tragic death. He said these things. So I don’t think you have to have imagined the Sussexes to be antiestablishment revolutionaries to see that this move contradicts much of what Harry has put out there for years. If anything, Spare was intended to answer the question: how could a prince of the realm turn his back on a life of wealth and privilege? Well, he gave a very convincing answer. Perhaps we just believed his answer too much. But we didn’t invent it.

      • ABritGuest says:

so my impression especially from the hacking court cases was that Harry blamed the press for his mother’s death & intrusive coverage on him, his friends and girlfriends etc for a lot of his challenges in England even pre Meghan. And that that on top of his experiences with Meghan, formed his press reform mission.

But in any event he has spoken out about the institution and its harms- which is why I find it hard to believe they’d want him back doing duties). And yet during the spare rounds of press in 2023 when he was asked by Tom Bradby something like if he still believed in the monarchy he said Yes. He also mentioned to Bryony Gordon about how he had tried discussing with his brother things to make sure certain practices don’t extend to the next generation – Charlotte, Louis etc & how William told him to mind his business. He also discussed how the Dutch king had apologised in reference to its colonial past & how that was an example of leadership etc.

That’s why I said he has never presented himself as someone who was gonna be the next Republic spokesperson (although that campaign group said their exit has probably helped their cause). Based on things he has said and done my impression has long been that Harry is a monarchist who thinks it needs to modernise and reform. Now I think the monarchy & the class system is one of the biggest barriers to social progress in the uk & why there’s this serfdom attitude still and that’s where he and I part ways. But that’s just me

But even POC who come from countries that have been harmed by the monarchy and liberal types whose politics don’t seem to align with the monarchy, still seem to buy into it. See all the praise Charles got for his speech to congress which was quite hypocritical in some ways & progressive women who minimise Kate using white women tears because she wore a tiara.

        I blame Disney.

    • Sarah says:

      Exactly. Perfectly stated.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Very well said! I keep thinking about the first time I realized how I projected my perception on them: when Harry was asked about what his job is (what does he do or something like that) and he gave a very Kate like answer. I’m a duke and a father, he said. I still cringe just thinking about it. He could have said so many of the things he actually does, jobs and activism etc. He just doesn’t think that way. His status is what he feels defines him.

    • bisynaptic says:

Absolutely, but there is still the pesky problem of their security.

  28. MaisiesMom says:

Like line said, Harry and Meghan are not iconoclasts. They’re reasonably progressive people, sure. But they were never out to break the system. They just wanted fairer terms from it and within it.

And that’s fine. I’m not sure this move is the right call, but it’s not up to me.

    • line says:

I agree. To me, they are much more centrist than progressive, especially Meghan. Harry is a monarchist, so I think it’s fair to assume that he has fairly conservative views on certain issues. He may be considerably more progressive than some members of his family, but that doesn’t make him a progressive or revolutionary figure. There’s a big difference between being more progressive than your family and actually being progressive in a broader political sense. For me, that’s where the distinction lies.

  29. Kate says:

A mess. If any of this is true, that marriage won’t make it. Leaving her kids to fly back and forth to California to earn the family money, sounds insane. Being the sole earner while her husband relives his childhood through his children. We’ve seen what a British education gets you, I’m not impressed.

Can’t say it’s not true, it could be, can’t say it’s not his friends talking, it could be. I believe it’s all due to Harry being unable to let go, the status, the titles, the royals. And I believe Meghan is trying her best to save her marriage. And it unfortunately won’t go well, and she will be blamed and he will be the fool but forgiven and will find an english rose and be back in the fold.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

“Relives his childhood through his children.” And why would he even want to relive his childhood? We know from SPARE that it was hardly idyllic. And one of the great things about the kids being Californians was they wouldn’t have to be about that life.

      • MaisiesMom says:

I can kind of see the argument for this, though. Of course Harry doesn’t want his children to go through what he did. But maybe what he DOES want is for them to have a better, more idyllic version of his own childhood. One with two emotionally present and involved parents. One where neither child is the “spare” for or secondary to the other. Maybe that’s it.

      • Jais says:

Recreating his childhood might be a better description. He wants to recreated a better one than he had and apparently that is still in the uk but a better version of the uk than he had. And I don’t doubt those kids will have more attentive parents than he did.

    • line says:

What really gets me, if this is true, is that Harry doesn’t seem capable of making the same sacrifices for Meghan that she has made for him. People say Meghan should just divorce him, but she can’t simply go back to the life she had before Harry: she would still face constant media scrutiny, racism attack , harassment and security concerns. And with two children, she would remain tied to Harry and the royal family for the rest of her life. So I find the idea of expecting her to simply “walk away” incredibly simplistic.

      • Jais says:

Arguably, he did get her out during the first Sussexit. Meghan at the time said it didn’t have to be this way. It looks to me like they are both seeing if it could be another way. At one point, she did envision having kids and raising them in the uk before it all went to hell.

    • Chenn says:

I think it’s more of being royal , his status etc. Because Sussex OG plan was move to Canada where being royal is higher status but they end up in USA. I think for harry especially in uk where no matter how intelligent and rich you are royals always be in high regard than average. But in USA people care about money more than titles. That’s why most of these royal run back. Many forget Maddy from Sweden also went back. Royals subconsciously enjoy the perks of being royal. That’s why no matter what how much billy humiliate kate , she stuck with him.

      • Ciotog says:

It’s why Margaret didn’t give up her royal status to marry Townsend. Though that seems like a real cautionary tale for Harry.

  30. Brassy Rebel says:

If this is true about Meghan commuting back and forth for work and Harry as the primary custodial parent, that sounds like a soft separation to me. You can dress it up any way you want. But it may not be true.

What is true is Harry’s almost religious belief in the superiority of the British public (private) school system. This was reported on last year by a named British celebrity who had just returned his family to the UK following several years living in the States. Harry told him how determined he was for his kids to be educated in GB because that was the best education. We didn’t believe it then, but it appears now to be very accurate. I don’t know a lot about these aristo schools in Britain but I do know I’ve never heard anything good about them. Harry seems to think everything is The Best just because it is British. Chauvinistic AF.

    • ChillinginDC says:

Exactly. We all thought the RR were smoking when it was reported he said this and wanted Archie at Eton. And now it appears they do have friends and friends who have been talking.

    • Bings says:

You have a really bad opinion of Meghan if you believe this. What would make you think that Meghan would let Harry have custody of her children? I have read all of your comments this week and they are increasingly strange, negative and rather alarmist.

There are many reasons for Harry and Meghan to want to live in England with their children even for a short period. None of those indicate separation and divorce. Give Meghan some credit. She was naive before but she is surrounded by very good lawyers, financial advisers and the like. If this move was planned as we being led to believe, then all parameters have been set and all legal issues that may come up addressed and tightly locked down. And it would not be that Meghan leaves Harry at home as the primary parent. Meghan also works from home.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

The excerpts literally said that Harry would be the primary caregiver for the children under this arrangement. And if all of these stipulations have been drawn up by lawyers, that’s more of a business arrangement than a marriage. But we don’t even know if that part is true or not which is why I said IT MAY NOT BE TRUE.

      • Bings says:

@ Brassy Rebel But the excerpts are not the truth are they?

And it is not a business arrangement to think of practicalities. It’s common sense. Even loving couples and especially loving couples should be practical in these things. I can guarantee you that there is not chance in hell that Meghan would move to England without guarantees.

      • Tessa says:

Both parents need to be there to protect the children. Harry and Meghan both should have work responsibilities. The kids need both parents.

    • MaisiesMom says:

It kind of does to me too, but you can’t always judge by appearances. Time will tell. We’ve been in the dark about things before, obviously. I just don’t know any more.

  31. Sparkling Water says:

Some of this sounds believable. The 12-15 years, not so much—though it does add to a theory held by some (including me, sometimes) that Harry is being kept on deck for a possible regency.

  32. QuiteContrary says:

I cannot see Meghan agreeing to spending that much time away from her children. No way.

This might me be projecting my values onto her, but she has gone to great lengths to protect her kids from the tabloids and to keep their lives private. Work is important to her, as she’s always worked, but she’s designed a professional life that keeps her close to her kids.

I can’t see her just ceding the raising of the kids to Harry for the rest of their childhoods. (And yes, fathers have done this forever — flying off for work while the moms manage home life, but protecting these kids is a two-person job.)

And Harry is kidding himself if he thinks a British education is worth risking the family’s privacy and safety. England is a very small place. This will be like shooting fish in a barrel for the British tabloids.

    • Lorelei says:

@QuiteContrary, I agree with you. Something seems so…off about this whole thing, and I just hope Meghan is happy with whatever the actual plan is.

    • paintybox says:

I can’t see it either. It doesn’t fit what we’ve seen of her at all. Saying Meghan will be the working parent spending a lot of time out of the country is Boshoff’s wishful thinking because it sets the stage to getting rid of Meghan altogether. That’s what all the royalists really want for Christmas – Harry back and Meghan gone. Since the kids are really cute, they’ll keep them around but these people seriously nasty – you just know they’ll use the Sussex children as foils to laud the Wales children non-stop.

  33. Lady Digby says:

If Harry wants the kids to have a UK education which includes university then as Lili is 5 then a 16 year stay would her complete education. I think Boshoff has no sources she’s just guessing about their plans factoring in a 16 year stay for the family.Nobody knows how this stay will go. To quote John Lennon, Life happens when you are busy making other plans! Let’s see how the kids adapt and how this family feels about the move in a year’s time. Nothing is set in stone, things evolve and develop eg who forsaw Chuck getting cancer two years into his reign.

    • Lorelei says:

Another one of my favorite (related) quotes, “Man plans and God laughs”

In my experience, it’s generally true!

  34. Catherine says:

Meghan is far better educated than Harry, so that one is weird. It may be Harry’s home but it is not home for the other three members of his family, and he should be doing the commuting. Doing the same thing, expecting different results.

    • Carty says:

Yeah, she got into Northwestern which is an elite college. So this whole UK has better schools than the states is BS. None of this makes sense, but it’s not my life.

    • Meredith says:

Being Prince and Princess is meaningless in the U.S. (No kings!) and I think Harry wants them to be royal children with royal perks. Otherwise he would have gone the Anne and Edward route and declined titles.

      • bisynaptic says:

The prince and princess titles aren’t his to decline; they’re the children’s birthright.

  35. Jferber says:

12 to 15 years? It sounds like a prison sentence. And fck Boshoff.

    • QuiteContrary says:

I have to admit: 12-15 years in England would feel like a prison sentence to me. As the old saying goes, it’s a nice place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there.

(I did live there. Six years was more than enough.)

  36. Mads says:

I hope I’m wrong yet I fear it’s going to end in tears.

  37. MikeB says:

Wait, I thought they were only staying for 6 months, or was it a year or two? Now Boscoff says 12-15 years, they really don’t know anything. How many friends of H&M have been talking to Boscoff? H7M really need to get rid of loose lipped supposed friends, however I don’t believe Boscoff’s story at all.

  38. Paula Ziegler says:

A British school system that did not prepare Harry or Diana for college. Meghan attended American schools. Speaks 3 languages and got into prestigious Northwestern where she thrived. She remains intellectually curious unlike the rest of the royal family. What exactly would be the point of a British education?

  39. minx says:

Well, it goes without saying that it’s their lives and their decisions, etc. My opinions FWIW: Wealthy people can pay for the finest educations no matter where they live. I don’t think this is a good move for Meghan, at all, and even less for Archie and Lili. They’ve lived a gentle life in California. Now they’ll be sitting ducks in a cultural mindset of Tall Poppy Syndrome and snobbish “no matter what you do, you’re not one of us.” And they’ll have the tabloids reporting on Every. Single. Move. I could go on and on, but it’s just….ugh.

  40. Oxie says:

I do believe harry struggled in Cailfornia. It’s a common experience in binational couples and on some level that homesick feeling doesn’t go away. That being said I feel for meghan deeply leaving her mom. I almost wish they settled to a new country like Portugal so both sides have a sacrifice

  41. tamsin says:

I can’t see them staying after William becomes king. Why would they subject themselves to that hellscape? It would be reasonable to be there as long as Charles is alive. I see the value of the kids getting a bi-continental education, but I’m getting a little annoyed at all this garbage about the superiority of the British system which pidgeon-holes you early it seems. There are problems with the US system, but the Sussexes have the means to pick the best schools at every level. I can’t blame Harry for wanting the best of British for his children, but his mindset should continue to broaden. Meghan is American and she knows how to navigate the US. All the people who helped them were Americans- don’t recall any friend ex-pat willing to lend a hand, except perhaps Elton John.

  42. samihali says:

No idea what’s going on but one thing is certain: they are needlessly squandering the goodwill of their supporters by mismanaging their comms. Maybe Meghan’s agent can give Harry a “Loose Lips Sink Ships” poster to hang in his study.

    • Smart&Messy says:

The only time their comms was any effective was when Meredith Manes directed it. She was part of that weird terrace meeting in London and gone after a year. I suspect she might have had the same impression as “LINE” above.

  43. MaisiesMom says:

I’ve been thinking about this and from what I’ve seen, it’s not unusual for children of UK/American blended marriages to spend their early childhood here then go to school over there. A friend of mine’s ex husband is British. Her children from her second marriage stayed in the US, of course. But her older daughter went to boarding school in England as a young teenager. She wanted to go. She’s in NYC now so I think she might have gone to college here, but she was across the Pond until she was at least 18. For several years. There were a couple of English families in my neighborhood when my kids were in school who did the same thing. They were living here for work and some of their children were born here, but they still sent them back for school. One guy I met at a dinner party had a son at Eton.

Of course, in the case of the latter families, both parents were British. But they seemed pretty settled here and generally stayed for years.

It’s not that weird as a rule. But Harry and Meghan have challenges others don’t.

  44. Fernanda says:

i think they are being very naive. The most important thing for a child is that both parents are present. Having one travel for work means she will miss key moments in their development. I talk about this with the experience of going thru this with my parents. Their marriage barely survived. As a child you don’t understand the absence of a parent regardless of how well this is explained.

    • Tessa says:

Meghan should not leave those children for any length of time. She can also work remotely. The children need her. She and Harry should be with those children, it’s a new world for them. And Scooter is not fond of them to say the least.

  45. HandforthParish says:

It’s not about the level of education, it’s about the cultural references attached to British private school education.
There are very niche nuances of British upper class society that can only be gained by attending certain schools.

Harry is a prince, and I bet you anything that he wants his kids to have a British accent and ride and play cricket and netball and rugby, all the traditional sports played in english public schools. Lili might play lacrosse, which is exclusively a girl sport in England.
Posh Brits are very patronising of the States.
They might like some aspects of it, but ultimately England is superior, and the accent is a HUGE part of it.

  46. Joy says:

    Let’s “Occam’s razor” this (〃>_<;〃)
Harry’s immigration/visa status prompted the hasty decision to return to UK albeit short-term. Some people (depending on the case) applying for change of visa status or fixing visa issues have to go back to home country.

    • Meredith says:

That would be the most clear cut thing to clear up if it were true. “Harry and his family will return to the U.K. for x months to satisfy his spousal visa requirement in the U.S.” Since they are leaving things messy and open to rumors and gossip, I highly doubt that it is Visa related.

      • Joy says:

If they did anounce that it has to do with visa requirements, then it’s like admitting that something illegal/inconsistent was found during the inquiry on his visa application requiring him to reapply from his home country.

New rules on visa applications are just in effect today.

  47. L4Frimaire says:

What people hope will happen and what actually does aren’t exactly the same thing. Sure, lay your life plans out for everyone to opine on. This is all in Harry’s lap and he needs to be the one to make it work. Btw a lot of these projects are Harry’s, not just Meghan’s. I just don’t think he just wants to go to every envelope opening while she’s doing the heavy lifting of maintaining their lifestyle. I think royals are raised to be dependent on others, so hopefully he’s more independent minded now. He has a great opportunity to really dissect the media and should use it to his advantage. There are many a project and books there.

  48. martha says:

    ugh.

    – None of this is making sense.
    – Harry never struck me as a snob or that interested in “the right schools”
    – will Harry have visa problems re-entering us during the rest of Trump term?

They don’t owe the public anything, but their lack of clear public statement isn’t doing them any good.

  49. bisynaptic says:

Who will provide the security they need?

  50. BeanieBean says:

First lie: Harry is going to be arriving this weekend. Nope. They’re there now.
And the bit about Harry watching Archie playing rugby on weekends. Argghhhh!!!! He has a daughter, too! And Meghan is Archie’s mom, she’ll want to go to the rugby!!! They are so very sexist, so very caught up in old thinking it’s just so preposterous in this day & age. And if THEY have a production company in LA surely both have to travel back & forth, if back & forth travel is required?
