When Brad Pitt bought Angelina Jolie a table for her birthday at the Art Basel fair that was worth nearly $300,000 it may have been the equivalent of a tool set, if the National Enquirer is right. According to my favorite gossip magazine, Angelina is appalled at the amount of coin Brad regularly spends on art and has issued an ultimatum that he needs to donate most of it and stop buying more. She finds his hobby self indulgent and wasteful and is asking him to sell most of his pieces and give the proceeds to charity:

The hunky heartthrob has spent millions collecting pricey works of art – and Angie thinks he should sell everything and give away the money, sources say.
“Angie hit the roof the other day when Brad told her another piece of art was being delivered to their home in Los Angeles,” a source revealed.
“She was pretty sarchastic about it too. She told Brad that if he doesn’t cut back, she’s going to give the art to the kids to ‘paint over.’ She was trying to make light of it, but she’s dead serious…
“Angie wants Brad to sell his art collection and give the money to charity.
“She says there are so many people who don’t have the basic necessities that collecting things like some kind of queen feels selfish to her.”

You can’t really look at art as selfish because in many cases it’s an investment – especially when Brad Pitt purchases from an artist because it almost guarantees that the value of their pieces will increase. It’s a win-win for him. Angelina on the other hand is going to these war torn countries and visiting refugees without enough food and water so you can see how she would think art comes from another realm and doesn’t want it to be in their house. It’s a dichotomy she’s going to have to learn to live with though. You don’t mess with your husband’s (ok partner’s) favorite hobby if it’s harmless and doesn’t interfere too much with your family life.
Maybe they can reach a compromise where he stops buying so much but doesn’t give away his existing collection. It’s something he can easily leave to his children or to a museum that could be a real legacy for Pitt. As an art lover, I can’t see the harm in a rich guy collecting it.

If he has to give up his art because of the “starving africans” or starving whomever else, she needs to give up her expensive designer clothes, they need to self some of their many multi-million dollar homes, and they need to start flying commercial. It is incredibly hypocrtical of her to make those demands on him. since that is not going to happen, let the man have his art.
If I could afford it, so would I. We all need something that gives us pleasure.
But it is his money. Unless he used the money from the twin pictures and was initially meant for charity. They still have the money from the W pictures too, and with no photo agency taking a cut. That lot was not promised to charity was it?
If she cares so much for the poor people in the world, what does she think of the 6 homes, private jets, flying for a hobby and an entourage that rivals Cleopatras, double standards I say. Walk the walk. She is rich one calling out any one on living large while people suffer in the world.
Besides Brad is the major income earner (aside from the twins. I suspect part of the reason Angelina ‘stole’ him was to finance her charity hobbies and any future eccentricities.
I do though partly understand her concern, Brad’s hey days are gone. Angelina doesn’t have much longer to act those action movies which don’t tank as much as her other movies. If Brad is doing ads and selling family pictures to make ends meet, then they had better cut on their spending otherwise you don’t want to go burst with 6 kids.
They are not what I would call wealthy beyond care. They have money, but not enough to last forever without a care in the world. Not with that life style. If Hugh Hef has to cut back, then Brangelina better watch out. He was 50 times wealthier than the two of them put together.
At this rate, I can see the headlines 10 years down the road. ‘Are Brangelina broke’. That is if they are still together.

I was going to point out that art is an investment, but you already did. If he hangs onto it and sells it down the road, he’ll have made a chunk of change. Enough to donate some and buy more art.

What a c**t if this is true, which I’m really feckin’ hope it’s not. Especially as she considers them (and even BB Thornton and Johnny Lee Miller, who although a good jobbing actor isn’t Olivier or Peter O’Toole) as artists. Most artists tend not to denegrate other forms of art, especially the more established ones, such as painting and scultpure. You’re absolutely right about building a solid collection legacy for the future CB. Say what you like about Pitt, he’s always loved modern design and is wholly committed to it. Although I don’t believe the story to be true, if it were I hope he had the good sense to tell her to get knotted.
She probably thought that Rococco-pastiche table was a waste of money though, especially as they were moving a few months later and that money would have been far better spent on something more worthwhile.

Very much doubt this is true. If he’s buying wisely, it’s solid investment and far more so than property.
Mary, you’re right. In her interviews, I get the feeling that sometimes Angie wants him to spend more time concentrating on art and architecture, less on Hollywood.
Maybe they need to try an idea that we commoners think works pretty well – decide AS A PARTNERSHIP how your money is going to be disposed of. My hubby and I each make our own $$ and have separate accounts, but we decided TOGETHER who pays which bills, how much goes into savings, and how much gets donated. Whatever funds we each have remaining every month is ours to do with as we please (within reason, obviously!). I can support my shoe habit, and he can add to his collection of fossils. Works great and was decided like grown-ups – ultimatums are rarely a good idea and generally don’t get you where you want to be.

I am a JA fan too, but you are the type that make us look bad. You are soooo hateful! First off, I do not htink we know of ALL of the Pitts charitable contributions. I’m sure sometimes they just like to give without the whole world knowing and calling them fake about it (which I do NOT think they are, I think that part of them is GREAT). Second, they probably have to have that many homes or they would pay a FORTUNE in hotels. Third, I really doubt Angie is with Brad for his money! Are you serious. She IS beautiful and could have ANYone she wanted. My husband is a major JA fan and has always called AJ kinda trashy. Last night he finally admitted she is pretty, so I know that even the people who drink the hatorade are just trying to fool themselves. She could probably fool any/all the men she wants out of their money, but I doubt that’s her mo. You don’t have 6 kids with someone for the money!!! On to the topic, I can see both sides. She should try to understand, but I really do not see her as that materialistic, and would understand why she would get so upset. Also, I am pretty sure just about any designer will GIVE her clothes. Doubt she is morgaging the house for them!

Funny, I’ve read that AJ lets her children crayon the walls of their $50,000. a MONTH chateau so as not to stifle their creativity, so I wld. think she wld. appreciate the artwork. CB, well said as to investment and all. When you make that much money, you must buy real estate, artwork, something relatively sound for future return/security. Ahhh…didn’t she buy some crazy expensive art for him a couple of years ago, by some ecentric British artist? Like a picture of George Washington with a bullet through his forehead, for like $200,000.00? I think “Bugsey” was the name of the artist, or something like that. She’s been known to spend big money on art too FOR BRAD! I like Angie alot, but I don’t know about this story. Sounds fishy to me!

I’d like to know what she has a passion for, outside of charity work, that she cuts back on or omits entirely. If she is keeping herself in check then she might have a beef, MIGHT. Other than that, she needs to stop short of telling him how to invest, or not invest, his money.

Who is the ‘source’? Maddox? If this conversation actually happened, was it in a crowded room full of people ready to sell it to the press? These ‘source’ stories (particularly something so detailed and with so much conjecture and opinion) always smack of bullsh*t to me…. Sorry but this just seems way too detailed to actually be accurate…
On another note.. I really feel like the latest photos of these two show tension in their body language, particularly the one above… maybe the conversation about the art was taking place right as the picture was snapped and a ‘source’ just happened to be there to capture the magic moments 8)

How did I know that Angelina was such a control freak? I have been married to two men who both told me I had to get rid of my books…I still have the books and they are history. If I had the money Brad Pitt has, I would have wall to wall art. It does not mean you don’t care about people. It just mean you love beauty in all forms. Art is a great investment as well as something wonderful to look at. Why do people have to control others in this way?

I think they should both cut back on what they spend. She wears shoes that are very expensive and her bags are too plus she gives her daughter matching ones.
Compared to other celebs, I don’t think Angie’s wardrobe is as flashy or expensive as the others. She thinks that an excess of clothing and fashion is just wastage and I have noticed that she wears the same sunglasses over and over. This differs from other celebs who have to have the newest accessory as soon as it is released!
