Amanda Bynes claims innocence, hires lawyer to fight DUI charges

As we talked about on Friday (I made it the lead link), Amanda Bynes was arrested early Friday morning for a DUI. The header photo is her mug shot – she looks kind of busted, but she’s not as puffy as she’s looked in past appearances. Amanda was caught for drunk driving because she drunkenly plowed into a patrol car, which is one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever heard. It’s dumb enough to drive drunk – but to drive drunk and then drunkenly try to pass a cop car and end up plowing into said cop car? Ugh. Anyway, there’s more information about Amanda and what she’s going to do now. Guess what? Amanda thinks she’s innocent!

Amanda Bynes went from the pokey to the Polo Lounge Friday morning after her arrest in Los Angeles on suspicion of DUI. The “She’s the Man” star was sprung from jail Friday, hours after being picked up by police at about 3 a.m. for careening into a cop car at the intersection of Robertson and Santa Monica boulevards.

But spies tell us that after Bynes made bail, she was seen high-tailing it straight over to the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge power spot where she met with her p.r. rep and one of LA’s top DUI lawyers.

“Amanda and a publicist met criminal defense attorney Richard Hutton at the Polo Lounge,” a spy told Page Six. “Amanda was exhausted and famished, but wanted to hire an attorney immediately.”

The DUI arrest was reportedly just the most recent trouble behind the wheel for Bynes, who celebrated her 26th birthday last Tuesday. TMZ reported that the actress was pulled over last month in LA for talking on her cellphone while driving, but that she drove off before the cop could hand a ticket to sign. According to TMZ, the cop did not pursue her, and she later stopped by a police station to sign the ticket.

But this time, the former Nickelodeon actress was attempting to pass a police car in her black BMW when she collided with the cruiser instead. She was arrested for driving under influence, with bail set at $5,000.

“She says she is totally innocent and wanted to know what she is facing,” said a source of Bynes’ meeting with Hutton, who’s previously repped Paris Hilton and “Prison Break” star Lane Garrison in DUI cases.

Sources said that Bynes, her rep and Hutton met for “about an hour and a half.”

In 2007, Hilton was spotted in tears after leaving a meeting with Hutton, and her mom, Kathy. No word on whether Bynes kept it together after discussing her legal options.

A rep for Bynes did not return a request for comment.

There are several shocking things in that report. One, they let you out on $5000 bail after you drive drunk and plow into a cop car? For real?!! I would think it would be much, much more. As for Amanda’s lawyer and her “innocence”… God knows. I would say that she’s just trying to get some attention, but I don’t know enough about her to really judge her famewhore-ness. To me, she just seems like a really screwed up girl who is in WAY over her head with addiction and alcoholism.

What the hell color is her hair? pink? lavender? Such a sad departure from the cutie on “The Amanda Show”.

    • the original bellaluna says:

Michael K on D-Listed referred to it as “washing period panties in the sink” pink. (Both funny AND gross, I know.)

  2. marie says:

not to be mean (which lets you know this will be) but what the hell happened to her face?

  3. Kaboom says:

I think you mean ‘fight DUI charges’.

  4. aquarius64 says:

This is sad. She’s gone Lohan. Be a woman, pay the ticket and be thankful it wasn’t worse.

  5. Talie says:

Her face is definitely weird to me…fillers?

  6. I.want.shoes says:

Girldfriend’s got other serious problems besides the DUI: the racoon eyeliner, the pastel-colored hair, and that biscuit-grazing skirt.

  7. Hautie says:

Well it is hard to claim being sober, when you clip the parked cop car.

In order to arrest you for DUI, they do test the person. Either by road side test or seeing how high your breath analyzer test was on that hand held machine… or in Texas, they just draw your blood.

And they do this in case you are just a dumb ass, who can’t drive. And manage to slam into a parked cop car completely sober.

So we will see. Maybe she is just trying to get it down graded. So she won’t have a DUI following her on her insurance for the rest of her life.

    • ozmom says:

They don’t “just draw your blood” in Texas. Geez

      • Hautie says:

Actually the City Of Dallas does draw your blood.

        They are known for it.

They have these “no refusal” weekends constantly.

And if you get stopped. And are suspect of a driving while impaired. They are getting a vial of your blood. They even have a special Medical Unit bus set up for it.

And the reason they do it. Is that it is practically impossible to get your DUI dismissed… with a blood test proving your where loaded.

      • ozmom says:

I’m just asking you not to make it sound like there are police officers all around Texas waiting to fill vials of your maybe or maybe not drunk blood. Drawing blood is only used as a last resort if a person refuses the other sobriety tests, it is not a regular practice as you implied in your original comment. Geez.

    • gee says:

In NY, you blow a breathalyzer AND have to complete tests, so when you are charged, it is with two counts of driving under the influence. If you don’t register on the breathalyzer, you can still be charged.

    • jlw says:

      1) Rear-ending a police car while driving drunk happens alot mor often than you might think….I’ve recently heard of it several times…one of them being my son. Not my proudest moment.

      2) In Dallas, the police will take you to an area hospital to draw the blood but they are supposed to get your consent, except on those no-consent weekends.

  8. msshuffleupagus says:

Has she been taking a break from acting in order to sexually service the LAPD? Because how the hellsballs did she get away with not being pursued after evading an officer and paying 5000 for bail for HITTING A POLICE CAR DRUNK????

  9. X says:

No fillers. Her face looks fat, because she gains weight first on her face. She was so scary thin at one time, but you couldn’t really tell because of her face. Her face looked good, but it also looked like if she had any more weight on her face, she would have looked fat. Well that is what is happening here. Slammin’ body, but she’s gained weight in the past couple of years. And her face looks like hell because of it.

And what a dumb-ss. Maybe her face fiasco is trying to match her brain, which is an ugly mess.

doesn’t it seem like there is a celeb busted every week lately for DUI? Really bad lately 🙁

  11. hillbillygirl45 says:

Is she taking lessons from Crackzilla?! You know, “I didn’t do it, someone else was driving, I wasn’t there, I’m a homebody”. If you have the money, and she does, HIRE A DRIVER!!! Are ALL these people THAT frikkin’ stupid?!

  12. the original bellaluna says:

First thought: “Oh, poor Shaun Holley – she’s never gonna get a vacation!”

But then I read it was someone else.

  13. Laura says:

I don’t know exactly how US law works, but could it be that maybe she was only slightly intoxicated as opposed to full blown drunk which is why her bail was so low? I’m just guessing here. Here in the UK they test you twice, then use the lower reading to decide if you should be prosecuted and if so you “sleep it off” in a cell and appear in court at a later date.

    • the original bellaluna says:

I’ve never had a DUI, but I believe it’s a case of “once you hit that magic number” (or run into a cop car while trying to pass it) it’s pretty much a DUI.

I think the other considerations come into play once your BAC has been established: things like hitting a cop-car; clipping people in cross-walks; how many miles over the speed limit you were traveling; how many other laws were being broken; etc…

      • ozmom says:

Running into a police car does NOT equal automatic DUI. Geez.

      • the original bellaluna says:

ozmom – Hence my saying “Other things come into play once your BAC has been established…like hitting a cop car;” etc…

  14. ozmom says:

“Plowed into a cop car”? Where is the report that states that happened? All I’ve read on other sites is that she bumped or grazed the patrol car. Making so much “news” and drama needlessly. Geez.

  15. normades says:

Amanda, Hayden, Demi…they are all Lohans 2.0. Too early in the biz, too early in da drugs, bad parents etc…just sad.

  16. VanessaP. says:

I was very surprised when I first learned of this DUI. First off, Amanda is a good girl. I’m not saying she wasn’t drunk driving, but it probably is just a one time mistake. Amanda is known in MY generation as the girl along with Hilary Duff, that took the high road and maintained their wholesome image after the whole Disney/Nickolodeon success. If you would check Amanda’s record, you’d be surprised just how wholesome this girl is after all these years! The girl is now 26 (same as me) and she may have been drunk driving, no excuse, but compare her to the likes of Lohan, Cyrus, Spears, Aguilera, etc. (the Disney kids), Amanda looks tame and Saintly by comparison. Give her a break. I think she’s deeply humiliated by this whole thing. Also, she is far from a famewhore. She actually voluntarily want to stay low-key, she’s mentioned it so many times before, even at the peak of her career (she’s the man, what a girl wants, love wrecked, hairspray), she’ve always managed to stay under the radar.

  17. Joseph says:

She could just be a bad driver ,and she does not look drunk in her mug shot just tired.

  18. David says:

“they let you out on $5000 bail after you drive drunk and plow into a cop car? For real?!! I would think it would be much, much more.”

Scraping the side of the cop car is hardly “plowing” into it. Oh, and how’s this for you – she didn’t even have to pay bail. E Online and People have said she was let out with a citation.

  19. You will need a personal injury lawyer when you suffered a spinal cord injury due to the recklessness of another person. You can file for a personal injury claim against the other party. People suffer from severe spinal cord injuries.
Upon looking for a lawyer to handle all your personal injury claims, it will be great if you have adequate knowledge about various claims so you can hands-on in a way. These consist claims for pain and suffering. Some people discuss with a personal injury lawyer compensation matters in relation to pain and suffering. On the other hand, in one or two districts, there is a limit on the share of your compensation for illustration in Ontario and Toronto. You cannot avail of compensation that is higher than $326,000 for pain and suffering. Due to this reason, with places like Ontario and Toronto, pain and suffering are not considered as the largest share of compensation.
