Halle Berry was photographed angrily yelling and confronting a photographer outside her daughter’s school yesterday. I guess I don’t blame her. We all know that Halle stages happy family beach photo ops with Nahla’s bonus/replacement dad, Oliver Martinez. So she’ll use the paparazzi when they work in her favor and curse them out when they don’t. I still take her side, though, when it comes to protecting her kid. School should be off limits to paparazzi, and there was a law passed in California in 2009 that makes it illegal to “take and sell unauthorized photos of celebrities in ‘personal or familial activity.‘” A school pick-up outing would fall under that category, and Halle could have called the cops if she wanted to. According to E! online, she just told the guy off though. Here’s more:
The Oscar winner was picking up daughter Nahla from school in Beverly Hills when she was spotted—and duly photographed—shaking her fists at something (or someone) in the parking lot.
So, what had gotten Berry’s summery, turquoise maxidress-clad goat?
Would you believe the very person who captured her ire was also the one doing the irking?
“It is inappropriate for these people to stalk a child’s school everyday,” a source close to Berry tells E! News, “these people” being the paparazzi who chronicle an awful lot of Berry’s comings and goings.
“They pushed too far [today],” the source added. “Halle felt that her daughter was being threatened. Having words with someone who is stalking your family is not out of line.”
No one officially reported a pap-vs.-A-lister confrontation going down at the school, so it appears that Berry was able to collect her daughter without further incident and be on her way.
But this isn’t the first time that Berry’s movements have been plagued by unwanted attention. She filed a criminal complaint in 2008 against a photo agency that was circulating pictures the actress claims were taken of her and Nahla in their backyard rather than out and about.

You know I’m in no way a Halle Berry fan, but she has a right to bitch someone out whom she perceives as threatening her kid. The paparazzi scream all sorts of ridiculous things, to kids, to get their attention. They shouldn’t be allowed on school property. There’s a difference between photographing celebrities on Robertson Boulevard or out at the clubs and following them when they bring their kids to school. Especially if the paps are getting right up in little kids faces.
This is Halle Berry we’re talking about, though. Maybe she just got mad at something and wanted to blow off steam.

I know this is gonna sound weird, but I remember pictures of other celebrities yelling at a paparazzi guy in a Prius. I wonder if it’s just this one dude who’s spectacularly terrible and all the celebs feel the need to yell at him.

I have to look it up again. The one I have in mind is when Julia got out of her car on a side road, and came to the paps’, and started yelling at them, and really getting her pointy finger in the driver’s face, through the window… She was bending down… So car, not van.

You know, she yells at a photog for stalking her child, she gets sympathy from the public, she has one well documented and reported story to show the judges how dangerous is the US territory for little Nhala, hence the need for her to relocate to France.

If Halle had NEVER been photographed with her daughter to and from school, many times before, I would most definitely agree with you. But that sadly is not the case.
The paps are not allowed there if they aren’t invited, and they know it. If there is one thing they try and respect most, is that children must always be out of the pic. Unless they have the star’s blessing.
That is why this smells set up for me. Halle has done too much in the past 6 months for me to give her the benefit of the doubt. She had been acting like a crazy shrew.
I read somewhere that she has a contract with a brand – they keep sending her child clothes, so Nahla has to be papped to “promote” the clothes.
Isn’t Gabriel the one who is usually ‘papped’ picked Nahla up from school? I’ve rarely seen a photo of Halle picking up her daughter from school.
And none of us knows what set her off. The Pap may have gotten in Nahla’s personal space and stuck his camera in her face … or, even worse, the Pap may have screamed out something about the legal battle Halle and Gabriel are in, which would piss off any parent.
In the same way I cannot believe Kim Kardashian wants to marry Kanye for love, based on her past actions, I am having trouble giving Halle the benefit of a doubt.

Looking at more pics of the incident on other sites, unfortunately for her, it reminded me of Gabriel’s complaint on her raging temper, as well as the screaming and harassing messages she left him.
Need to watch a full video if there is one, just to be clear. She simply shouldn’t invite the paps for pictures when it simply suits HER means.

I think kids should be off limits, pap-wise. Having said that, you don’t get to have it both ways, Halle. You can’t pimp your kid out on the weekends when you play Happy Families with your latest boyfriend and then go all cray cray that they would DARE take pictures any other time. I agree that anyone could snap in a situation like this but I saw the video and it screams borderline personality as she goes on and on with the cussing. Other celebs have blown up at paps but she showed her cray-cray here by going ON and ON after she made her message clear. It’s one thing to be famous and be caught calling someone a Mofo but another thing to be caught completely freaking out like you have no self-control. No wonder all her husbands said they were relieved to be rid of her. So so pretty, so disturbed.

Yes, papps are obnoxious and poison celebs’ lives, I can’t argue with that. But I still think that this is Halle building a case to move her daughter to France as her “life is unbearable in the US.”

Yeah, she has a right and duty to protect her child, and maybe something really unacceptable occurred in this instance, but Halle’s been marching her child in and out of this school for years before now. Halle is nothing if she’s not cunning and manipulative, and using this incident to build up a case to further her cause to move to France could absolutely be what’s really going on here.

Good thing this is the first messy custody process in history and involving celebrities. If I’m learning anything, it’s that everything is always only one person’s fault and showing pictures of one person being angry proves it.

I mean, when a law stops being a law because it protects the rights of someone you don’t like, you’ve crossed over. You see the paps I called are taking my picture. See how scary this is for my daughter (not present). I must therefore strip my daughter’s loving father of his parental rights and move immediately to France with my smarmy next ex husband. It would not be right for my young child to continue to witness my cray cray (on the drive home) brought upon by a man inside his car.

The beach is a chosen outing. School is school; the child has to go there everyday and the paps know her routine. As much as I despise HB for the way she treats her child’s father, I don’t blame her for chewing out the paps. They endanger other children as well when they hang around schools, often blocking traffic with their vehicles. She should have called the cops on them. Harassing a small child at her school is not cool.

It would make sense if Halle wanted to get away from the paparazzi madness–American paparazzi are pretty relentless. In France (and most European countries) it is illegal to publish pictures of celebrities and their children that are underage. If they are published, the kids’ faces are blurred out.
One example is the former president of Spain, Zapatero. The only published picture of his daughters was accidentally published on the US Dept of State Flickr account–Zapatero went to some fancy ball with his family at the Met. Museum of Art in NY and posed for a picture with the Obamas. The picture is unintentionally hilarious because Zapatero’s daughters are dressed like goths–it was the first time even Spanish people had seen them! When the US Dept of State realized Zapatero usually doesn’t allow his daughters to be photographed, they took the picture off line but it already been distributed through the media. So privacy laws for celebrities/politicians are way stricter.

I have to agree with how she feels. I would be very angry, too. I think your home should be off limits, and your children, too. I am also against the paps being able to say things to people as they walk out of clubs or venues. They try to instigate a response by saying inappropriate or invasive things, and I feel this should be outlawed, but why isn’t it? I also feel they should only be allowed to take pics from a distance, not close up while people are walking to their car or in an airport where they have no options. I just don’t understand why there are not more laws regarding paps.
