Duchess Kate in a $1800 pink coatdress in London: gorgeous & appropriate?

I’m sorry we’re so late in covering these photos! They’re from Friday, during the day, but we only got access to them late on Friday night. Considering everybody is running with the same photos, I’m thinking these were taken by the official royal event photographer, and then circulated to the photo agencies. The event? The Queen hosted a special all-royal lunch in honor of her Diamond Jubilee. And when I say “all royal” I mean “every royal head of state in the world.” Even the Emperor of Japan showed up! In total, there were “24 Kings and Queens, one Emperor, a Grand Duke and a Sultan.” The Sultan of Brunei, of course. Also included? “Eight princesses, an Emir and a lone Empress.” Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco were there too!

So for the special lunch (in which all of these royals just stood around, clutching champagne or water and quietly muttering bitchy things), the Queen made sure that Prince William and Duchess Kate were in attendance. For the (day) occasion, Kate kept her hair down and her curls magnificently sausage-y and bouncy. I guess it’s fine for a day event, although I really did hope that we had turned on a corner as far pulling her hair up. Sigh. Kate also wore a $1800-2000 coatdress from Emilia Wickstead. She accessorized with an ornate brooch and big earrings, all of which you can barely see because of her enormous hair. I do kind of like her in pink, though. It’s not my taste, but she looks cute.

I’m also including photos of Princess Charlene, with her new short ‘do all twerked up. I love that shade of blue on her, but seeing Charlene and Kate stand next to each other, talking to each other… it’s disconcerting. Charlene looks less plastic when she’s next to Kate, and Kate looks MORE plastic. Weird, right? I swear, Kate’s face looks “tight” while Charlene looks more energetic than we’ve seen in previous months. Also: I would LOVE to know what Kate and Queen Rania had to say to each other. Scratch that – I would LOVE to know what Queen Rania really thinks of Kate.

PS… Yes, Kate sipped white wine. She’s not pregnant.

You seriously need to stop with the hair! It’s gorgeous.

  2. Cherry says:

Is that queen Rania of Jordan in the third pic? Or Letizia of Spain? I just realized that they look very much alike.

  3. PHD in Gossip says:

Profile view of prince Harry: He most certainly had a nose job!! His schnozzola was huge when he was a teen.

  4. Francesca says:

I hope Catherine never cuts her hair, her beauty rests on her mane.

    • Alix Romanov says:

Absolutely. And for heaven’s sake, I love her satin shoes. The Duchess gets picked on so much, & for what? Being beautiful & fitting in perfectly with the Firm.

  5. lower-case deb says:

Queen Rania is so gorgeous it’s unbelieveable.

  6. Rita says:

    24 Queens a’cackling
    8 Princesses Laying
    1 Sultan Swinging
2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree

Kate looks lovely but the whole thing looks painfully boring. I’d rather spend the day watching the birds in the pear tree.

    • Mimi says:

      Ha! No kidding. YAWN.

    • Henry says:

      HAHAHA!! that was hilarious.

anyway yes, all these functions the royals attend always look mighty boring. and the fact that they have to go there and pretend they are enjoying themselves is just ugh.

no wonder william always looks so bored and glazed over.

  7. Liv says:

Queen Rania is almost skinnier than Kate – brrr! I love her though, and I really would like to know what she thinks of Kate, too. I’d say Kate is super nice but boring.

  8. monica says:

Ever since she lost all that weight, Kate’s head looks disproportionately big for her body.

    • Jenny says:

From the side her head looks wider than her body. Not a great look for any human being.

  9. Eleonor says:

I really do like her hair, and the dress is very appropriate. What I don’t like: racoon eyeliner and pantyhouse!

  10. Sandra says:

Charlene looks positively gorgeous with her hair up, and I loooove her purse!

  11. truetalk says:

I absolutely HATE Charlene’s bag(last pic)and what’s with the matchy matchy?; clothes matches shoes while purse matches hair.

  12. LAK says:

Charlene looks really good here and even better in the evening do. Like her hair and her suit and colour. Her face is animated. Botox finally wearing off? Her lips are still bad but I’ll take it. She doesn’t look depressed here.

The hair is very Diana and suits her.

    Rania looks good.also Thai princess.

The only person I had satorial issues with is the wife of the king of swaziland. Sidenote: is a 3rd wife referred to as a queen? Is there a chief queen? What is the protocol there?

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

lak ,don’t you think the whole thing was in a bad taste considering england slipped back into a double recession? most of the comments on dm were negative , also hm show of diamonds and speech in parliament was also very disappointing. inviting Bahrain king was very very disrespectful and inappropriate ,i hoped that cameroan would grow a pair and ask hm to not invite him but of course he was disappointing ,nothing new. last but not the least both Beatrice and Eugenie were better dressed then dolittle imo.

      • LAK says:

@Angelic 2.0 – i don’t know what i personally feel about whether this was in good or bad taste. Perhaps if they had not sent out photos and simply kept the whole thing behind closed doors that would have been better because this was already attracting bad publicity.

And of course it doesn’t help that media concentrated on Waity. I feel that media reports on HM don’t necessarily attract many comments but they are generally positive whilst Waity attracts loads of comments, many of them negative.

With regards the guests, there is the inconvenient fact of Bahrain investing heavily in Britain. An invitation to them was unavoidable. Ditto Qatar. What was poor taste is them showing up. And being photographed being received.

I agree with you that Beatrice and Eugenie looked very good. I do feel sorry for them because they are fighting against prejudice of their parents’s activities and media image.

With regards the HM’s speech and jewellery. Two issues here.

        1. The Jewellery – it’s the Crown jewels. I find dm comments on the Crown jewels very ignorant. At the end of the day, those Jewels are visited by tourists who bring in revenue for the treasury. If they were sold off, their market value would only cover a day or two’s interest on UK debt.

The history comments are very polarising, so i won’t touch those.

        2. The Queen’s speech – i think that can be blamed whole heartedly on the government because she reads out what ever the government tells her to read out. Perhaps we should question the point of the annual speech as she has no input into it.

That said, i do wonder what would happen if she refused to read out this speech because she disagreed with the contents therein.

      • Littlestar says:

LAK I love your insightful commentary. I’m guessing you are British. What does the British public truly think of Kate??? I’m very curious.

      • LAK says:

@Littlestar – It’s a mixed bag. The serious press ie broadsheets ignore the royal family and Kate unless they are doing something official.

The tabloid press which is very infuential, or so they think, report daily on various members of the family. Currently Kate is getting the most tabloid coverage.

The visible media eg print/TV tend to be either neutral or written in a particular slant depending on whether the paper/channel is Royalist or Republican. It’s the online versions of all the papers where you see the public’s opinions of the royal family. Overrall, Kate attracts the most vitriolic comments, primarily around the issue of her not working both now and before her marriage. The tone has been changing from very popular on her wedding day to let down these days. The only way she can redeem herself is to work. I am not sure having babies would help because many comments on that issue say that would be an excuse for her not to work because they expect her to take the time off as any new mother would.

One could ignore internet chatter, except that all her post wedding nicknames eg Duchess Dolittle were spawned by the public on the internet rather than by media, and it’s worked its way into the media. It’s across all the online commentry sections. Given the volume, it will not be long before the main media cracks and starts reporting negatively one her.

As for the man on the street, i would say mostly indifferent primarily because she has not made any impact further than her clothing /make-up. Inspite of her being in the tabloids most days, being touted as a role model.

But the same people who tell you that they are indifferent to her are also the same people who have an opinion on The Queen, and the princes.

      • Littlestar says:

Thanks very much for that! I’m Canadian, and coming from a Commonwealth nation I’ve always been curious about what the British people really think of the royals & Kate. I’ll admit, I liked her before and a lot of that had to do with the wedding and the media blowing it out of proportion (seems like both American and British rags are good for that). But the past few months, reading comment sections on royal stories (both gossip and regular media websites), I was surprised at the backlash against Kate. Yet it’s also changing my opinion on her. The whole taking a year off to get used to royal life or whatever excuse they gave before was such bull. She had how many years of waiting around to get used to the idea of royal life? What was her reason for not working before marriage??? Given the economy around the world and how hard all of us work to make a living, one would think she’d do something to make herself look more relatable to the public. Charity work at least, if nothing else. And what a waste of a good university education!

      • LAK says:

@Littlestar – i think what surprises people most of all is that there was a concerted campaign prior to the engagement in which it was said for years that she was the most prepared Royal Bride we would ever see because she had received so much training and support and just being around the royals for that long, knew exactly what was expected of her.

It was used as the counter argument to her not working, as well as the allegedly ever present paparazzi.

This point was also emphasised at the engagement, with further indepth ‘princess training’ lessons.

So an atmosphere was created where everyone thought she was going to knock all our socks off, particularly on the work front. Then the wedding…..nothing. The little we have seen of her shows someone who is out of their depth, and completely unprepared, who doesn’t appear to be preparing or improving, who shows no empathy or concern for anything or anyone but William. i speculate that’s where the backlash and the vitriol is coming from.

      • Littlestar says:

Very interesting indeed. I’m still surprised at her lack of charity work. Perhaps I’m comparing her too much to Diana haha. But it’s still mind boggling to me that she did not work prior to their marriage, heck, their engagement even! What kind of work could she do now though? I do understand the paparazzi is a concern. Does she realize her (essentially) laziness is lowering the publics opinion of her? Side note, it is quite odd her ‘obsession’ with William. She seems so into him, yet in pictures, it looks as though he sees her as nothing but a charming nuisance.

      • gg says:

I actually enjoyed seeing the whole parade. It’s history in the making and I love history.

  13. Jackie says:

i really dislike charlene’s outfit. shiny baby blue with matching shoes, c’mon!

love kate’s dress, but girl needs to eat a meal. what a bag of bones.

  14. flan says:

Monaco’s royalty must have been so happy they got to be part of it for once. They are often shunned.

And Queen Rania probably doesn’t understand Kate’s laziness. She’s a hard worker who has done A LOT for charities.

  15. cupidtyrox says:

    Kate looks blah as usual.
    Queen Rania is truly gorgeous.
    Charlene looks good here.
    William looks like a frog

    • Call Me Al says:

Hahaha you made me laugh! I think Albert is the one who looks like a frog. I can’t believe she is still with him. Maybe she will meet a non-royal billionaire and run away with him. Charlene looks the best I have seen her in a while! And I like Kate’s dress. For her.

  16. Bella says:

This whole event looks so fake and dated. It’s like the last dance on Titanic.

    • Lisa says:

      Bella —

I love your comment — you hit it spot on! And OMG the curtseying — what kind of sniveling worm does that? Yuck.

  17. June says:

where can i see the pictures of the evening event?

      • June says:

        thanks

      • Lem says:

Charlene is stunning in that pink. You can see Charles thinks so as well.
The 3rd wife of the king of Swaziland , those shoes ! That dress! Bwahahahaha. Wonder how the other sister wives feel about # 3 getting Queen’d
The Queen seems to be quite enjoying herself!

      • LAK says:

@Lem – Regarding Swaziland….LOL. This is my very question too. What is the protocol with sister wives of a monarch?

      • Sweettart says:

One thing that I just don’t understand is all the “royalty” of countries that no longer have a monarchy.

Greece has been a republic since 1973, Bulgaria hasn’t had a monarchy since 1946.

      • LAK says:

@sweettart- as I understand it, the way they remove the monarchy is key. If the royals are not required to abdicate or their titles abolished when they are exiled they can usually keep those titles, and as long as they have direct descendants, the whole thing can keep going in exile. Should royalty be restored in their countries, then they can just return and pick up where they left off. It happened in Britain between Charles I and Charles II, and more recently in Spain. It’s a better solution than France and Russia.

  18. Feebee says:

In the header pic William looks like he’s thinking ‘what’s HE doing here?’. Otherwise it looks like a terribly polite affair.

I like Kate’s outfit even though it also looks like a polite choice.

    • Alix Romanov says:

I really wish that Princesses Bea & Eugenie would have a royal role. I know that Princess Beatrice said she wanted to work, but that was only after she got turned down from having a proper Royal role. She is a lovely girl & so reminds me of Queen Victoria. The girls shouldn’t pay for their mother, IF that’s the problem. I still like the Duchess of York. She’s trying to make her way in the world. My question for a Brit is what is this about Catherine not working? I don’t understand. She is a housewife (we consider that work in the U.S.) & she’s learning her role in the Firm. She’ll be pregnant soon enough. Didn’t Prince William want to ease her in so as not to do what happened to his mother – pushing her out there with no training. I don’t get it at all. Do people mean the Duchess needs a job outside the palace?? I’m quite confused.

  19. Abby says:

Kate looks great in pink. Love Charlene but not this look–at all.

  20. Happymom says:

Charlene is only 3 years older than Kate, right? Yikes. She looks so much older. And her lips-wowza! They looked so pumped up.

    • June says:

i guess she looks older because of her short hair. imo women with classic style and short hair almost always look older than the ones with longer hair. imagine charlene for exampele with long curls, she would look definitely younger.

      kate looks awkward

  21. Franny says:

her hair looks pretty awful here. The curls are uneven, there are straight parts and its drizzy. Remember that blowout she got the day before her wedding? She should do that more often.

  22. Dena says:

I’m so tired of the Duchess of Cambridge. However, did anyone else spot the Queen in the 3rd pic? Not only is she tiny but she is carrying her purse (essentially in her own house). Bless her heart. I really like the Queen & Prince Charles. The D&D of Cambridge? Not so much.

  23. Alti says:

love pic6: Kate looks like a psychotic 🙂

  24. maemay says:

Not really sure it matters how much her dress cost especially when meeting monarchs? Thats the time to bring out the Sunday’s best.

    • angelic 20 says:

Say this to tax payers of a country in a double recession where public supports the rf.I still can’t believe that we have to pay for this gala lunch and dinner which had no diplomatic importance and then again another expensive event show casing a parade.i know its the junkie year but it would be nice for the Queen to reflect on the plight of her country and do a little more subtle thiwngs.

      • Anne says:

        THANK YOU!

      • TruthTella says:

No1 – Tax payers don’t support the Royal Family, the only members of the RF that recieve tax payer money are The Queen (head of state) and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh. Charles receives his money from the Duchy of Cornwall which is nothing to do with tax payers and from that he supports himself, Camilla, William, Harry and probably Kate although William and Harry have their own money too.
Any other members of the RF that get money from the Queen it’s from her own money. Also in about two years the law is changing so that instead of getting funded by the tax payer the Queen will receive 30% of the profits from the Crown estate which already contributes hundreds of millions to the treasury on top of the money the Royals bring in for tourism.

No2 – This event isn’t just a private party it’s also a way to schmooze world leaders which could be beneficial to the country financially, besides that the Queen has given 60 years impeccable service to this country, the least she deserves is a party and besides that the celebrations will bring tons of tourists and money into the UK.

      • bluhare says:

        totally agree, TruthTella.

      • angelic 20 says:

Yes it does, didn’t you keep up with current affairs Andy just t travelled through India in private jets, lived in a5 star hotel when there were other armaments were made and many more incidents that o can’t write.plus this whole event looks really bad when ones country education system, defence system, economy, pensions, jobs everything is going down the drain.how do you know the royals attract tourists?,i am not born british but I never came here because of royals and after living here for more then 10 years I still haven’t met anyone that do,put out one way or the other monarchy is supported by people and u think there are a lot other places where this money could be used, also I am site Queen did not pay for this unnecessary party and what about the parade in the tome when we are told that national defence its over stretched and needs cut backs, the postage was very bad.she deserves the celebrations I agree but they should not be this lavish and so out in the open when normal people are struggling to pay their electricity bills.she is not doing monarchy any favours given that Scotland already wants to abolish the rf even with hm alive.

      • angelic 20 says:

APOLOGY for all the mistakes,i am on my mobile

      • angelic 20 says:

APOLOGY for all the mistakes,i am on my mobile and addition most of the people attending this are not state heads and rd have been abolished and add I said this had no economic diplomatic or increasing tourism event, if that were the case media would have painted out all over.this family is API not in touch with what is going on the streets .

      • angelic 20 says:

APOLOGY for all the mistakes,i am on my mobile and addition most of the people attending this are not state heads and rd have been abolished and add I said this had no economic diplomatic or increasing tourism event, if that were the case media would have painted out all over.this family is not in touch with what is going on the streets .

      • TruthTella says:

@Angelic 20, Prince Andrew wasn’t getting to ride private jets and stay in fancy hotels because he was a member of the Royal Family it was because he was working as a trade ambassador for the UK, The next person that gets that role will be getting the same treatment whether they’re royal or not.
As for the monarchy and tourism, go see how many thousands of people turn up at the trooping of the colour or many other Royal events and look at how many came for the wedding and how many will come for the Diomond jubilee spending money and boosting the economy.
I don’t get why you think that having a president would be any cheaper than having a Queen… The same amount of money would still have to be spent on security/maintaining the palaces/entertaining diplomats etc we’d just loose out on all the history and ceremony that comes with the monarchy.
And as I’ve stated in 3 years they’ll recieve no tax payers money so what’s the problem?

      • ANGELIC 20 says:

i know andrew is trade embarrassed but the demands he made were ridiculous and costed tax payers thousands of pounds which was discussed in house of commons(there were arrangements for his stay at british high commission residence in delhi which is already supported by tax payers but he declined to stay there and opted for a 5 star hotel the same goes with his for his private jet ),plus do you know how badly treated indian media who stopped reporting his tour after that plus he was flying to slums where people do not even get 1 meal every day in private jets .it was the worst royal tour and it attracted so much negative media in india,if he were not a royal ,he would have been removed form the job.

secondlly the best thing with a president will be the fact that the person would be elected and we would only be supporting his immediate family not the whole crowd ,someone who wants to work ,is intelligent ,hard working ,self made .no matter who many people are amused by rf ,the fact is most of the world countries do not support an un elected constitutional body.just look at charles and camilla ,they are going to be a church heads ,i am not that religious but i am offended by this. plus what about william and waity both who wants the perks of being a royal but not the work . people don’t want unelected state heads with no morals and because of this as soon as hm dies commonwealth countries will start dropping the rf.

as far as history is concerned well being an asian i am not very happy about your comments. rf history do not include even a single thing that one should be proud of .they stood for slaver ,racism, epidemics , famines , inequality ,stealing, igniting wars , promoting violence so they can rule a little bit longer (divide and rule i.e. india pakistan partition) .so i am sorry being a british person one should be ashamed of what th disgusting , racist ,cruel, dictating ,stealing ,immoral family with a superiority complex has achieved.

as i said one way or the other the whole rf is supported by the public .whatever is given to charles or the change in laws ,all the money would belong to the public and can be used to take care of schools ,hospitals ,education system ,etc etc and not to keep this irrelevant family which is so out of touch.

last but not the least ,there is no data that suggest the no of tourists rf attract . i never understood this argument because the palaces and other royal sites will belong to the public plus no member of rf actually stands at bp so tourists can see them . this is a hypothetical argument used by royalist to justify royals existence. plus the occasions that you mentioned are once in an year and if you will see the actual crowd you will realize that they are mostly british or from uk.wedding is not going to happen again, same with jubilee and other events are attended by brits or people from uk not all over the world and not all year long.

  25. Mika says:

God, I feel like Kate is the most boring cocktail party guest in the world. I feel like she’s spend the whole time quietly nodding and agreeing with you about everything. I’d rather be in the washroom smoking up with Chelsey Davies.

  26. The Original Mia says:

$1800 for that? Nah. Boring dress. Boring hair. Boring Waity.

Charlene looks lovely. Very Diana-esque with that hair. She looks amazing at the evening event.

    • LAK says:

You know, when it comes to fashion, i always feel like Kate has all the right pieces, but somehow manages to make them look blah.

And i think she needs to take up the accessorising module in the ‘how to wear dresses’ section of the princess training.

The dress is pretty, but she is in a pink/red room with a pink/red carpet. matchy matchy really doesn’t work in this room. Darker accessories, and different hair would have made this dress pop.

      • The Original Mia says:

Good points. I’m not a big fashion girl myself but I do understand the need to accessorize. She dates herself with her plain hair & jewelry.

      • bluhare says:

I’m not a big accessory fan, mostly because I can never remember to put stuff on, and I hate wearing brooches because of the marks they leave on your clothes, so no fault finding from me on accessories. Personally, I like the fact she lets her outfit do the talking.

      • LAK says:

@Bluhare – For me accessories work both ways.

Look at the Swaziland Queen. She’s the opposite of the simple unadorned look, and a walking disaster.

  27. crtb says:

She need a big necklace and some braclets. Hair is too long or she need to wear it up for special occaisions. It all looks boring. She needs something to make it pop!

  28. Emma says:

I’ve always felt very sorry for any kind of royalty – they must be so bored.
Kate looks like she needs to gain a few pounds and she should stop bringing her blush so far in on her face, it makes anyone look like they’re boiling up. And maybe she should try curling her top layers? It looks like she makes them a bit looser (they’re almost straight) on the top than on the bottom and it makes the hair style look a bit unbalanced.
I like how she and William look very much in love, they’re always gazing at each other. They’re a good couple.

  29. Jessica says:

I agree, she probably does a lot of head nodding and smiling the whole time. I do like her dress … For the event. Prim, proper and appropriate, nothing to cause a stir. Just prop her up in the corner and let her smile and wave.

  30. Ramona Q says:

Since I suspect Kate has an official gossip reader, let’s sum up:

    Stand up straight
    Lose 5 pounds of hair
    Gain 5 pounds of fat
    Throw away eyeliner
    Throw away pantyhose
And FTLOG, get a matte powder to control that shine

  31. Lurker says:

Waity’s neck in one of those pics looks like a woman in her late 40’s. She looks much older than her age. Although the dress, the hair is nice.

  32. Lisa says:

William seems to really be enjoying his conversation with Charlene — he’s really lit up. Wonder if he’s thinking of his mom?

    • Bored suburbanhousewife says:

YES!! And in the background Kate is gazing at them with a look of barely concealed anxiety.

  33. deep says:

Kate is dressed just fine. She does have pretty hair, she just needs to do something with it..she needs a make over. She needs to get a hair cut and get a makeup consult. She’s Royalty for cryin’ out loud. She’s a bit plain. I hate to compare but Diana she aint.

    • Zelda says:

But in fairness, Diana had some of the ugliest hair of all time.

      • deep says:

Well, it was the 80’s we all had bad hair in the 80’s. LOL! But, back then..it didn’t look bad to us. Diana had style and class. Kate needs to start wearing her hair and makeup like a grownup. She looks older than her age as it is and her hair and makeup make her look even older. I think if she got a make over cut the hair she would look fresh and modern.

  34. TruthTella says:

Kate looks nice, wish there were more pics of all the other foreign Royals though.

  35. maria says:

I find the long hair drags her down. even if she tucked it behind her ears…maybe sleek and straight?.. I wonder how that would look?… I still say a sleek, look with a low pony would look good on her..maybe not with this pink outfit though. I agree with the other poster would said without her hair she wouldn’t be much to look at…there are some women that are stunning with short hair, long hair…whatever..like Halle, or Angelina…those are women with just proportionally gorgeous faces…for the most of us, we can’t get away with it the same. I doubt Kate could either. Saw a photo of Pippa at a party this weekend, in a red dress…her hair with the hat and look was absolutely awful.

  36. Zelda says:

All of these people need to stop existing, in the name of modern, rational, intelligent thinking.
    Pathetic.

  37. Hope says:

OMGOMGOMG, third photo down, or second if you just count the group below the text, is HILARIOUS!!! Look at William looking at Kate with his finger to his lips. You can tell he just wants Kate to STFU with that finger and the LOOK he’s giving her! Even the queen looks like she’s eavesdropping to make sure everything is okay, lol! I think this is Kate’s first major event with heads of state and it seems everyone is super on edge as a result. Probably why Kate’s face seems “plastic.” She is making sure not to put even one square millimeter of skin out of line.

Also, photo six/seven from the top. Crazy eyes again. He’s trying to control Kate with his brainwaves, I swear it!

    • Jackie says:

      good piece.

describing kate as an ‘overindulged woman-child’ is bang on.

i hope they start working to change her image around, or it is not going to be pretty…pun intended.

    • iseepinkelefants says:

That article was brilliant. It accurately called out both of them.

And I love that it brought up that William would rather spend time with Waity’s family than Waity (one reason I think he married her). No couple in the honeymoon stage would rather spend time with family than each other. After 6 weeks apart you just want to rip each other’s clothes off and never leave your bed.

Waity always gets flack but once you take Diana’s shine off of William you see he’s not exactly a great person either. I wish the press would stop excusing William just beause Diana was his mother. The Waity haters like to call them out for coddling Kate, but they also coddle William. Both of them are spoiled prats.

    • JulieM says:

kobielauren: Thanks from me as well for that web site link. Very good analysis of the whole Waity/Willy thing. They both come off as spoiled children. Very interesting points about how the Middleton family has to stay so involved in their married life or else Willy would wander. Which, of course, he will anyway.

  38. apsutter says:

More Queen Rania! I love that woman, she is no lay-about.

  39. anne_000 says:

Kate looks like she’s there only because she’s some kind of lucky intern working at the event who bought the dress only for the occasion, so she still has the price tag on it and it’s tucked inside. Queen Rania & Princess Charlene look like they belong there as they’re appropriately dressed, coiffed, and have a presence about them.

I have to wonder at what Williams was thinking in putting his finger up to his lips & w/ the look of fear in his eyes as Kate is trying to say something coherent to Queen Rania.

I’m sorry, but every time I see Kate, she exudes dumbness.

In the photo of Charlene & William talking to each other, it looks like Kate is trying desperately to be a part of the conversation but that it’s beyond her capabilities.

In the photo of Kate talking to the white-haired man, it looks like William is apprehensively smiling in hopes that Kate won’t say something too stupid and that he’s trying to pretend that what she’s saying is acceptable in that setting.

Comparing Charlene to Kate, even though they are only a few years apart in age, it looks like Charlene is that much more professional & well put together than Kate.

I know that Kate is trying to keep up that early 20-something image because she thinks it makes her look good, but it makes me think that her emotional maturity is at that level too.

    • iseepinkelefants says:

Think about it, if Waity were smart she wouldn’t have maried William. I get that people think you have to be smart to attend St. Andrews but it’s not exactly Oxford or hell Harvard, its not at the top of the tables.

Besides Royals, at least the UK ones, are incrediaby stupid. Remember when Royals had to be well schooled, able to speak 10 lanugages, etc. Well that was a long time ago. Royals no longer have to be smarter than the plebs. And the UK Royals (William and Harry at least) are known to be notoriously stupid. And why shouldn’t they be? They didn’thve to try.

  40. Dragon says:

Remember the awful dresses Diana wore in the first couple of years? They didn’t really fit her, were far to big. And then her shyness, she was so insecure.

I don’t want to be in Kate’s place. Can you imagine how boring it is to greet all these people and do small talk? Talk about the weather and how their travel was and pretend to hear it for the first time on that day? Of course, nobody forced her to marry William, but I think, especially she has a difficult time right now.

Kate and William cannot be compared with Charlene or Queen Rania of Jordan. Kate and William are in second line and they are being told right now, what they have to do and how they have to do it.

I wonder what Kate will look like in a couple of years. She will change and leave that girlish look behind.

  41. riri says:

This looks so odd. Two 30 years old, are trying to find what to say to that weird Albert guy from Monaco and his 20 years old poor bride.

I would love to know who is paying for all these events and the clothes and why do the British tax-payers put up with that?

They don’t need to pay people to be their celebrities. Celebrities should get paid for actual work- like films, music etc.

Finally, I don’t know why Kate tans so much. This is aging her and ruining her skin. What’s wrong with staying with her natural skin color?

  42. The Original Denise says:

Sausage curls, eyeliner, nude pantyhose, square toed satin shoes and dated dress….boring.

  43. King C says:

It’s not a real event without the Duchess of Alba.

    • LAK says:

That would have been amazing!!! Pity the spanish decided to boycott.

      • Sachi says:

Yes, the Duchess of Alba, IMO, is so precious. What a character and what a life she’s lived and continues to live.

The Spanish royals not being there was a pity, they attend few international royal gatherings as it is, except for royal weddings. But it was also understandable. Considering the mess the Spanish royals are dealing with this year, it was wiser to skip the celebrations that the Spaniards may see as frivolous and useless in the face of their employment crisis, the awful Spanish economy, the King’s stupid son-in-law and his f*ck-ups, and the King’s latest shenanigans with the elephant hunting and his mistress.

I’m reading the different media sects’ takes on the Spanish royals, and most of the articles point out that Prince Felipe and his wife, Letizia, are the only ones trusted by the Spanish public right now. It would be better to lay low for now when the future of the Spanish monarchy may be put to question.

And to be honest, I appreciate the Spanish royals’ attitude. When they receive criticism, they take action to remedy it right away. Chalk it up to great PR and media/public manipulation, but I’d rather have that kind of royal family than a family whose members regularly flaunt their wealth and positions and act so entitled even when the criticisms are mounting. The Spanish royals (well, Felipe and Letizia mostly) appear more in-touch with reality compared to the other royals like the Danish, Norwegian, even the British ones. In this age of modernity where royalty has no place, the Spanish royals “boycotting” the Queen’s Jubilee lunch, which many people I know have found to be ridiculous and unnecessary, have shown that they have adapted well in showing that royals could work in these times of being ‘one’ with the people and listening to the public’s opinions.

  44. Reece says:

Kate who? All I see is Ole Ginger Glory! Totally photo bombing in the 4th & 5th pics! haha
I’d bet Queen Rania doesn’t think about Kate at all. She does stuff. js
The hair looks like she did it herself with hot curlers cuz it’s a little frizzy as opposed to blown out smooth and curled with an iron. The curls are chunky & not combed thru. They would work better if she didn’t have so much hair weight. She def not one of those people who has hair that won’t hold curls. But whatever… As for the dress it’s alright. The tone does match the red in her skin and is making it pop out.

Everyone looks bored & has a plastered smile on their face.

  45. Luise says:

Charlene looks lovely! Love the new short hair.
Waity’s outfit is very nice and appropriate. However the maniacal look on her face in several of the photos creeps me out. What’s up with the excessive grinning? Can’t The Firm put out an order for her to tone that down?

  46. jes_sayin says:

kate.. SO BORING. Such a shame she chooses these awful clothes. Never a wow factor.

All these royals love the matchy-matchy bridal-y budget look.

  47. Jen says:

Just because she’s sipping wine it doesn’t mean she’s not pregnant or trying. It’s well established that an occasional drink is just fine. They’re also much more relaxed about it in Europe.

I’m not suggesting that she IS pregnant but let’s try to get basic facts down, shall we?

  48. Loulou says:

IMO only Queen Rania and Princess Letizia of Spain (absent) have the wattage to make a room full of royals shine.

    • Sachi says:

I agree. Letizia’s absence in royal events is always noticeable. She always brings a surprise about what she wears, but she always looks stunning in royal gatherings.

Her absence in Monaco for the wedding last year in July was a pity. Nobody looked good. I wonder if she would have shown up everyone like she did at William and Kate’s wedding (both the pre-wedding dinner and the wedding ceremony itself).

Rania is so beautiful. She doesn’t attend many royal gatherings either, but it’s always great to see her among royals. She and Letizia trumps all the other Queens/princesses, except Queen Elizabeth II.

  49. Embee says:

Kate’s face is decidedly middle class, which is not a fault, but it makes her stand out amongst the true royals.

I like her style and think she does a good job of dressing, and a poor job of expressing.

    • KLO says:

Middle class? You mean “quite good looking and pretty cute” as opposed to “weird and unfortunate”?

As for the expressions, she looks happy to be there. Where’s the fault in that?

      I don’t get you people.

  50. Exotica says:

    Gorgeous and demure

  51. TheOriginalVictoria says:

I am super late to to the party, but I have to say that I love the dress on Kate. It’s elegant, classy, and sophisticated. The color is just the right kind of peach to set off her dark looks.

The hair is fab. I can’t tell if it’s fake but it look real to me. Gorgy. I don’t like the makeup. It’s summer time approaching, and we’re still doing the racoon looks. It takes away from the dress.

Princess Rapunzel Redux…I can’t. I am trying to find the Charlene that wowed us with all those beautiful clothes a few years back. So impeccably turned out. It’s like now that she’s gotten married, she’s given up. I love the color but with that hideous get up it ages her years in the face. Love the shoes, HATE the bag. Just. The Monaco family is so budget looking.

  52. sup says:

how on earth can she look ever so boring. idgi. and her fake-nice face is yawn inducing too. sad that she was once much prettier.

  53. Lauren says:

William is wearing the same pissed off expression that Charles wore after marrying Diana. Anorexia is boring in the bedroom.

  54. spugzbunny says:

Gaaaa I love the Queen. Look how cuteness she is! Bless her – M’aam I salute you!

  55. annaloo. says:

What? !Gwyneth wasn’t there chumming it up?

  56. Kellie says:

I find it interesting that Kate and Charlene are close in age, yet one is obviously more mature and other looks down right juvenile. Can you guess?

  57. HoustonGrl says:

I generally lump all Royal wives into the same category. However, it serves as an interesting comparison to see how Kate and Queen Rania are different. Queen Rania is a competent mature woman who serves as a representative on a world stage. She can hold her own amongst presidents, first ladies, and the UN. She tackles big issues head on. Kate is treated like a kept woman who can barely handle a photo call. Every interview/speech is a train wreck. She doesn’t seem to have any interests or causes close to her heart. I really wonder why she wanted this position. Just so she could dress up and look pretty standing next to William?

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

that’s not true kate does have a cause and i should say the only cause close to her heart and that is know as william.

  58. саша says:

kate is disgusting. i can’t look past her fake hair, fake cheeks, fake personality. ugh. and her hideous grin is not helping. william, why did you marry your stalker!

  59. Jack says:

Everyone looks awkward. You couldn’t pay me to be a part of that bunch.

And I’d love to know what Kate was saying so jovially when all eyes were on her (inc the Queen in the background) – you just know it was something stupid and embarrassing.

  60. tmbg says:

Man, what a stuffy bunch. If I had to pick anyone to talk to, it’d be Kate. Why is it no one ever notices that Rania is Botoxed to the hilt? I saw some photos of her and she cannot make any other expression except mildly surprised. You can see it in the photo with the Queen in it.

As for Kate, I think she’s trying and no matter what she does no one will be happy. I think William is putting his finger to his mouth because some people do that when they’re thinking/listening to a conversation. Maybe Kate was speaking a bit loudly, but I doubt she said anything idiotic. She seems like she watches what she says.

The only thing I’d change is the makeup and L’eggs hose. I know she needs to wear them since the royals are stuffy, but what she should do is take a cue from Dita von Teese and buy those super natural thin, light-colored thigh highs. No one would notice and they really look very natural and barely there.

Everyone who crows about her not having a job isn’t thinking. How is this girl going to go out to an office every day with bodyguards? Would any company really want that? No one would get work done.

    • SmartGirlsAlwaysWinInTheEnd says:

I am LOL’ing HARD at the L’eggs hose comment. I stock up on those bastards. They’re always 3 for $1.00 at Walgreens.

      XD

    • Henry says:

Haha, i used to think Queen Rania was SUPER gorgeous until I noticed her facial expressions – it was always the same. and she somehow.. i don’t know, she always looks abit.. idk plastic? (Kate is going down that path too)

and then i googled and ta-da plastic surgery/botox articles everywhere. hah

  61. SmartGirlsAlwaysWinInTheEnd says:

The Queen Mum had more fashion style and she smiled more…and knew how to look interested.

I miss the Queen Mum… I’m sorry! I’m not trying to be mean-this time-but Kate is still young and beautiful. I just don’t get why she has to suppress herself SO MUCH.

    Gosh she looks BORED.

Is she straining to look interested, or is that her usual look? IDK.

I bet she misses clubbing, partying, shopping with the girls…Who does she talk to, I wonder, other than her husband.
Gosh, imagine talking to Anne who I like but has become even stiffer!-or that horrid Sophie about anything. BLAH!
