Jennifer Aniston loves watching Friends reruns

The more Jennifer Aniston talks lately, the more I like her. She used to just give general happy statements and not get into the details, but now that she’s spilling some of her thoughts it’s like the real Aniston is underneath all that self help nonsense and she’s fun as anything. Aniston told an interviewer in an article to be published Sunday in the NY Times Magazine that she really enjoys watching old Friends reruns and finds them a hoot. I wonder if she ever realizes how much she went without a bra on that show.

“There are times I don’t even remember that particular show. This is horrible to say, but there are times when I laugh my rear end off,” Aniston says of watching “Friends” reruns in the upcoming New York Times Magazine. “And I get in debates with people who are over and say, ‘ “Friends” is not my thing.’ Excuse you!”

Aniston also admits that she isn’t sure if “Friends” would be the success it was if it aired today, thanks to reality television’s influence on celebrity. “Hard to tell — that was a different time,” Aniston says. “Now TV has too much to do with celebrity. We have reality television, where people try to become celebrities …”

[From MSNBC’s The Scoop]

Friends ran for 10 years, from 1994 to 2004, and was one of the most successful sitcoms ever. Starting in its second year, it was consistently in the top five ranked television shows in the US until it wrapped. It’s what made Aniston a household name and although it was thought that she might be tired of the show and want to distance herself from it, she still has good memories of the show and doesn’t mind being reminded of that.

US Weekly has some more advance details of the interview, and Aniston talks about her transition to the big screen, saying she thought it was out of her grasp, “I thought I’d never get movies. [after Friends ended]” She also says that she’d like to change the title of her upcoming movie to She’s Just Not That Into You! because it “would be more empowering.”

It was a great show, and it is probably fun for her to watch and reminisce.

  2. Kristen says:

Well – she hasn’t really gotten any GOOD movies.

Hopefully – He’s Just Not That Into You is more successful for her.

  3. Tina says:

Jennifer’s doing a pretty good Janice Dickinson Face.

  4. Kim says:

I still laugh at some episodes of friends. Phoebe and Joey, hell all of them were hilarious. I must admit that I was preety ambivalent about Aniston before the now infamous love triangle. Now I respect her a lot. Although she could have made the whole thing much funnier by being a super Bitch. I hope from now on she bitches more about AJ. Not Brad, that way Angelina will seeth. If you bitch about both of them they will huddle together but separate them and you are bound to get them riled.

  5. Terry says:

The more she talks, the more I think she so insecure and kinda dumb. She’s sooo Into Herself, i think that should be the title of her new movie.

  6. susan says:

She really does have a great personality. She must be great fun to be hang out with.

  7. goons says:

i also like her now that she is talking..the silent jen was not working for me.. its good that she is opening up and people are seeing the real jen and not the one that the media puts out there.. on a side note, have you seen celebrities these days are really talking a lot more about themselves.. look at britney, beyonce, jen..Its good they are now giving their side of things instead of getting it from the media who want to sell copies.. i wonder what the next step will be for the tabloids???

  8. geronimo says:

Still not seeing the ‘fun’ but I love Friends, still do. It remains Aniston’s best work although Rachel was a very two-dimensional character and I’m really noticing this from the re-runs. Monica was always my favourite, the one with real depth, the only one of the female characters that really grew over the series.

  9. roller says:

i love the mag cover. so cute! and i still watch reruns of friends, makes me laugh all the time. she seems to be opening up lately, i like it! and she sounds really down to earth, she doesnt seem like she fancies herself.

  10. CJ says:

I love Friends too and still watch reruns. They are all funny, but my fav is/was Joey.

    Gotta love stupid 😆

  11. vdantev says:

Back when she had a steady job? And was really attractive? And funny? Before she became Miss Tabloid-fodder Harpy 2008?

WE WERE ON A BREAK !!

  12. what is ever. says:

It’s true geronimo, I always liked Monica too, she was so quirky and OCD, Courtney Cox moved a lot while in that role, and I think did a good job with the character.
Every now and then I’ll pass out with TBS on and wake up to “Friends”, and you know what- the one where Ross and Rachel get married in Vegas, still pretty damn funny.

“Hello Mrs Ross… Hello Mr Rachel…”

  13. Debbi says:

@Kristin – I’d just like to hop in and mention her movie _The Good Girl_, a nice little indie thinker. And of course, who can forget her trysts with Lumbergh in _Office Space_, LOL.

    Monicas of the world unite!

  14. POPO says:

I never liked friends. But I sure like her sense of humor in this photo. Mimicry at it’s best. Big full lips and a wink. You go girl

  15. catwoman says:

Stupid, vapid bubblehead , devoid of talent too. And famous for what, marrying another talentless bozo and a hairstyle?? And her show sucked big time. Couldn’t stand to sit through 1 entire episode, about as funny as SNL is today.

  16. Jenna says:

When she actually had a career. I wonder if she remembers what that is like. 😛

  17. Michelle says:

I LOVE Friends! I have all 10 seasons and my husband and I have watched the entire series no less than 10 times. She was definately the dullest to start our, but I think her character grew as well. From the dumb couldn’t even make coffee waitress to a true business woman, I thought she was great. All of the characters were my favorite from time to time. Phoebe was the most endearing for me. “Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you!”

  18. Duhh says:

She’s trying to be beautiful and funny and failed ..she’s just UGLY

  19. Baholicious says:

JA sitting in the dark in the living room with her ‘Rachel’ do and a white doll’s dress on, rocking back and forth singing, “I’ve written a letter to Joey…”

    Has been.

  20. Lauri says:

I vote for Ross as my fav…such a smart guy, but such an absolute idiot at the same time. He pulled off those two sides of the character beautifully.

  21. GrnMtGirl says:

I love Friends – my daughter owns the entire series and we often watch and laugh. The writers did an excellent job with that show.

That show gets quoted so much during our day-to-day life. As a matter of fact, just this morning while we were talking about Thanksgiving…Love the one with Brad Pitt and the “I hate Rachel” club. Too Funny!!

  22. monica says:

she looks really great in that photo! i always like to hear her interviews, especially lately. she just seems so real and easy to talk to. no presumptious at all. and contrary to what others think, i think she’s is so honest about how she feel.

  23. ff says:

Maybe that’s why her movies haven’t been enough to erase the memory or Friends – she can’t get over the show herself.

I must have meant a lot to her, I think she felt like an amputee when it ended.

  24. takeiteasy says:

I like Jen the more she talks, I dont like Angie the more SHE talks.

  25. Cheyenne says:

OMFG! ROTFLMBAO!!! What in the world does she think she’s doing in that NY Times cover photo? She is so trying to copy Angelina — bed hair, pouty mouth — and she’s failing abysmally. She’s the girl next door trying to be a sexpot and she looks freaking ridiculous. Somebody please tell this pathetic woman there is no better way to make an idiot of yourself than to try to copy the woman your husband dumped you for. It never works.

  26. Codzilla says:

I agree with POPO: The magazine cover screams parody.

  27. Kristin says:

F.R.IE.N.D.S. is my all time favorite show. 🙂 You don’t know how obsessed I am with that show lol.

  28. JaundiceMachine says:

I was a part-time fan of Friends; I knew all the names of the characters and most of their sub-plots, but I never really identified with any of them besides Phoebe. (Where have you gone, Lisa Kudrow?)

I always thought that Rachel and Monica would both be inclined to be a lot nicer and easier to be around if they ate a sandwich every now and again.

  29. DD says:

i thought friends was okay, and i don’t really like the genre of movies she’s usually in, but I remember catching an interview with her on tv once long ago, and thinking I really liked her personality… since the issues with her personal life the media has really tried to make her look pathetic, which has made me root for her even more…

  30. DD says:

I will be sooo proud one day when the headline is not related to the triangle, there would be no posts about the other party 😛 then one day the perceived triangle may actually die

  31. Cheyenne says:

@ DD: Ain’t gonna happen. 🙁 When the triangle dies, the tabloids die. The triangle is the only thing that is keeping their bottom line in the black.

  32. Christina X says:

    Meh, I hated Friends.

But seriously, I see what’s on TV now and what people consider “funny”, and I hate it less now. Cause everything else is so f*ckin’ stupid.

    I don’t mind her, though.

  33. roller says:

cheyenne, i dont understand why your bringing up angelina jolie in this thread. this thread is in no way related to angelina. ??

  34. Me says:

    Of course she does

I can just see her now sitting in front of the t.v. watching the Thanksgiving episoide with Brad, crying … why didn’t i give him babies?

Well Jen, he found someone who wanted a family. Not a mediocre career.

  35. NotBlonde says:

LOL. People are still bringing up Angelina and Brad even though, look at that, Jennifer didn’t!

To all those who say she can’t stop talking about those two: STFU.

  36. Granger says:

I loved Friends and agree with Lauri that Ross was pretty hilarious. I think Schwimmer’s the most-underrated actor from that show. Ross was completely different from any other character I’ve seen Schwimmer play. Unlike Aniston, who plays Rachel in virtually EVERYTHING. True, her character in “The Good Girl” was anti-Rachel; but Aniston still had the million-dollar highlights in her famous hair, even though she was supposed to be a Wal-Mart employee in a small-town. Absolutely no dedication to her craft.

She needs to make better film choices now or I think she’s going to drop off the radar sooner rather than later. The whole “America’s Sweetheart” thing wears thin after a while. Just ask Meg Ryan.

  37. Cheyenne says:

@ roller: When she is so obviously trying to copy someone she isn’t, I think it merits a mention. You obviously don’t. So shall we both agree to disagree?

  38. doodahs says:

Does Jennifer Aniston ever have a bad hair day? (Hair Envy! Hair Envy! Hair Envy!) 😉

It can be hard to find career longevity after the runaway success of a show like Friends. Many successful TV actors become paycheck players because people want ‘more of the same please’ and they don’t get to stretch beyond that character (Kramer anyone?). More power to her for watching herself and admitting it… Personally I find that much more palatable that someone who says “Oh please! I NEVER watch myself!” It kind of makes me feel that maybe I shouldn’t either then.

As for Friends, I found as an ensemble, the comedic timing was great and I enjoyed each of them individually. Sitcom acting is NOT easy and although they may make it look easy, it ain’t.

  39. John says:

Hmmm…I think most people like her because of friends, she needs to do more serious movies.
I mean I liked friends too (who didn’t) but she cant reprise her role as Rachel everytime
