Neither Kaiser nor I like Bethenny Frankel. We have some grudging respect for her as a businesswoman, albeit a cagey one, but she just doesn’t seem like a decent person. I have to admit that I try and tune out the news about her, but even I know that she’s been having severe relationship problems with her husband of just two years, Jason Hoppy. The one time I watched her show, she and Jason were fighting. It seemed obvious that they had a hell of a time communicating with each other. What’s more is that Bethenny has admitted that she’s having problems in her marriage. So it seems like it was just a matter of time before they split.
Well the latest issue of Star claims that Bethenny is filing for divorce, and that she’s in a relationship with her male business partner, Matt Hess. At least it’s heavily implied since they’ve been seen out hanging all over each other. Now these two are gearing up for a big battle over who is entitled to assets, since Bethenny is worth a lot of money. (But probably not as much as she’s claimed.) Here’s more, thanks to Radar Online:
It’s no secret reality star Bethenny Frankel and her husband Jason Hoppy have had their fair share of marital problems, but it looks like things could get real ugly in a hurry.
Bethenny and Jason have both met with divorce lawyers, according to this week’s edition of Star, and one source tells the magazine, “They are going to get a divorce … it’s imminent.”
This week’s Star also drops the bombshell that things between Bethenny and her Skinnygirl business partner Matt Hesse might have gotten less professional — and more personal — in their dealings.
Bethenny and Matt said plenty with their body language as far back as three months ago, an eyewitness tells Star, when the two grabbed a meal at Philippe Chow’s Philippe restaurant in New York City.
“They walked through the restaurant with his chest pressed up against her back, and she leaned back and he whispered in her ear,” according to the eyewitness. “Then, they went up the stairs to a private dining area together, literally with their arms wrapped around each other.”
Jason is just biding his time to expose the former Real Housewives of New York City star for her two-timing ways, the insider said.
“Jason has said that when he is ready to officially file for divorce, he is ready to call Bethenny out on her infidelity and name Matt in the papers,” said the insider, adding Matt has said there’s nothing going on between he and Bethenny.
Jason’s and Bethenny’s well-documented inability to get along and the newfound whispers of cheating could set up a $100 million divorce battle, as Bethenny has cleaned up in her entrepreneurial endeavors with her Skinnygirl line of products — and Jason wants his piece of the pie!
Jason “feels absolutely entitled to half of her fortune,” the source said.”He feels betrayed and doesn’t care about Bethenny’s financial fallout once he gets what he wants.

If the tables were turned and the husband was making more than the wife, she would absolutely be entitled to half the earnings during their marriage, so it seems like Jason should go after the money. It’s kind of despicable for Bethenny to wait until she has another relationship before she divorces her husband (if that’s what’s going on) but it’s also common. A lot of people wait until they have a jumpoff before they have the courage to pull the plug on a failing relationship. And a lot of relationships fail because a partner cheats in the first place. How can you be a decent spouse if you’re already involved with someone else?
I first read this story on Crazy Days and Nights, where they point out that Bethenny seems like a hard person to get along with. Kaiser and I have that opinion too, but I haven’t watched the show as much as she has.
Also, Bethenny probably slept with The Situation. Ew I would say, but they seem oddly suited to each other.

@JudyK, I’m glad of your appraisal of Mrs. Eastwood, because simply by the trailers, I did not believe like she acted as a Mrs. anyone either. It felt more like an open-love community, as in sex with one of the boytoys.

Yep. I saw her show only once or twice and she is a pile of baggage that he simply cannot carry. I have never been able to see the appeal of her to get her own show or get a decent person to want to be around her.
But, that is what makes the “Real Housewives” watchable is how batshit crazy they all are.

my opinion of her changed after watching her interactions with jason, who is about the nicest, most nurturing, calm, supportive guy ever. she can’t stop thinking about herself, her issues, her neuroses, she has a total mememememememem complex and can’t get out of her own head. I was happy for her that she finally got what she wanted after being SO dysfunctional for so many years, but she went an ruined it with her self-centered crap. she got what she deserved if this is true.
That was my reading of it, too (bros) from what was shown onscreen. At the same time, this Hopp guy had to be a bit freaky, too, to go for a reality TV star, sign up for a reality show himself, then bang on about wanting normalcy and privacy.
He was not only married to her, he gave her business advice on her liquor line, so he will be entitled to a significant share for sure.

My father, bless his soul, always said some women were like monkeys swinging through a forest. They never let go of one vine until they have a firm grip on another. Sounds like Bethenny might be that kind of girl. (I’m sure there’s a comparable analogy for men, but I only heard this one for women.)

My mom likes her show. I watched it with her a few times, and honestly, I think Betthany really resents her husband. She resents that he got to have an intact family, a stable home and all that stuff she resents not having. She seems to constantly have this simmering resentment for him at all times, so it doesn’t surprise me that she might really hate him.
I never really thought about her feelings toward him as resentment because of his family, but I think you very well may be right. You can tell she hates her inlaws and they really seem very sweet, lovely people. They are quite blue collar, the whole family sits down to dinner and talks about their day types, but I think that is great. Bethenny just may resent the stability they provide Jason. I think Jason probably does spend a lot time with them and Bethenny resents that as well, but if she wasn’t such a witch and always throwing him under the bus when the cameras are rolling, he might actually spend more time at home.

I used to think they were a cute couple and I used to enjoy her sense of humor/sarcasm. As I’ve watched her this season, I’ve become so turned off by her. She’s so obnoxious to her husband and his family. Just because she didn’t have a family doesn’t mean she can’t appreciate having them take that place. I only watched the show twice and that was enough. Bethany is a neurotic,high maintenance psycho. I really felt sorry for the husband….she was so abusive towards him. For the child’s sake and since Hoppy was the calm stable parent, I hope he gets primary custody and half the earnings.

Unlike most of the comments here, I happen to like and respect Bethenny. Yes, she’s straight forward and brash, but she is a loving mother and she’s strong. Who are any of us to judge her. Sometimes two people fall in love quickly and get married. They are just too different and can’t get over their differences and it’s making them miserable. I am not surprised, but I do feel kind of bad for Jason Hoppy. Actually, the reality show didn’t kill it. Bethany has become an extremely wealthy woman with a lot of drive and many opportunities coming her way – her new talk show, etc. He has a hard time accepting the difference between them and has been honest about not being happy with how his career has gone. Their personalities are so different, and when he fell in love with her she was living in a tiny one-bedroom apt.

I just looked up Matt Hess and I think he was on Bethenny Ever After a few weeks ago (I only watch if it is on when I am at the gym). They were really flirting it up too, to the point where it seemed like something was definatley going on between them.

I liked her on RHWNY, but now I it may only have been because she seemed likable next to Kelly, who I hated. I would get angry when Kelly just appeared on the screen. So when Bethanny was like, “WTF, Fuck you, Kelly!” I began to like Bethanny. But her show is grating. Maybe she should invite Kelly to join her show to make her seem nicer by comparison. You can only say “I have problems!” so many times until it’s time to actually DO something about your problems.

You are missing out…. Try rhobh. Intelligent viewers can have a blast examining the psychological and sociological aspect of these women’s lives. There are some heavy themes too, like the Armstrong storyline, and you watch these women change before your very own eyes. In the orange county version, it’s very interesting to watch these useless trophy wives start to make a little money of their own and how their controlling husbands struggle with it, often resulting in divorce. One woman was in a terrible marriage with this controlling psycho and now she is independent and working, while before she was infuriangly submissive. Another one is starting to rebel against her own psycho husband. It’s really great tv, and there’s plenty realness going on behind those McMansions walls.
I love Beverly Hills for some reason. Maybe because it’s local or maybe because they are so hilariously fake.
