Does Natalie Portman think Christian Bale is “tedious, arrogant & dismissive”?

I’ve believed, with all my heart, that Christian Bale has been a d-bag for years now. Maybe it was the recording of Bale ripping some poor bastard a new one, maybe it was his too-extreme, too-“Method” absorption into his roles, maybe it was just a general vibe. Whatever it is, I’ve never really been all hot and bothered for Bale, and I’m often left with a feeling of utter bewilderment when some of you ladies are all “OMG, Christian Bale is My Fassbender.” Different strokes, etc, and I understand the urge to have a fantasy bone with a d-bag. But Bale is too douchey for even my fantasy life. Anyway, Bale was recently working with Natalie Portman on a film called Knight of Cups. According to The Enquirer, Natalie quickly grew a giant hate-on for Bale.

Natalie Portman is so fed up with her “Knight of Cups” co-star Christian Bale, she’s ready to walk off the film set. But since she’s too much of a professional to actually quit, she’s quietly trying to come to terms with his unbearable behavior, an insider told The Enquirer.

“Natalie can’t stand him,” the insider said. “She thinks he’s tedious, arrogant and a disgrace to the acting profession.”

Natalie and Christian have just an hour’s worth of scenes to film together, but Christian’s need for perfection and to be the center of attention is causing the shoot to drag on forever. And that’s driving Natalie nuts, says the insider.

“Christian is constantly frustrated by his own work and incredibly intense and highly stressed over each scene,” noted the source. “He’ll insist they shoot over and over again because he didn’t like how he punctuated a line or something. Sometimes they wind up spending all night on the set just to satisfy Christian’s obsessive perfectionism.”

“Natalie’s really offended by Christian’s behavior and feels he’s completely dismissive of her… she thinks he’s all about his ego, and he doesn’t care who he insults or inconveniences.”

[From The Enquirer, print edition]

I believe some of this, and I’ve put the rest of it on co-sign lay-away. I do think it’s a matter of interpretation – Bale is known for being an OCD perfectionist, for going to extreme lengths with his “Method” and for being a difficult actor to work with. Does it follow that Natalie would label hin as “tedious, arrogant and a disgrace to the acting profession.” Tedious? Sure. Totally. Arrogant? I could see that. But a disgrace to the acting profession? Eh. Even though I’m sure he’s a miserable person in real life, and a miserable coworker, he does put all of it on screen. He is one of the best actors out there right now. He’s a great actor… and a terrible person.

My fantasy d-bag is Ryan Phillippe. There, I said it. I feel much better now.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

Mine is Adam Levigne. And Shane from the Walking Dead.

      • Pants says:

Shaaaaaaaane!! Ugh I miss him!! He is such a hot douchey wonder!

      • Jessie says:

Shane?! My husband and I always laugh about how bad he is at sex. He just flipped Lori over. No foreplay!

      • DeltaJuliet says:

I know, right? But she didn’t seem to mind 😉

I can’t help it, his take-charge attitude and badassery get me hot lol

      • johnnybadboytapia says:

hahaha im with you on Shane!!!! @ jessie, is there really time for foreplay during a Zombie Apoco? but all i was thinking during that scene was i hope she was w*t!

      • GoodCapon says:

        Daryl from The Walking Dead!

        ALthough I don’t think he’s a d-bag, more like misunderstood…

    • Irishae says:

The rare times he actually gets in shape (The Beach, The Departed), mine is Leo. It’s soo dirty and wrong and terrible, but true.

  2. marie says:

I can see it.. But hasn’t something similar been said about Natalie? so, pot meet kettle..

    • brin says:

I thought the same…sounds like her as well.

    • vic says:

She’s projecting. Used to being the biggest star too.

    • L says:

Yup, I’ve heard Natalie described as tedious and arrogant.

Maybe they are to alike to get along.

    • Christian says:

I thought the same thing. It’s funny cuz I initially read the headline incorrectly and thought Bale was saying it about Portman. I can see both of them being tedious and arrogant, but I think they’re both great actors.

    • corny says:

2 weird birds, a swan and an ugly duckling…awk

    • DottieDot says:

Precisely! Wah! Get over it and collect your millions!

  3. Chattycat says:

“He’s a great actor… and a terrible person.” I think that sums him up perfectly. I can totally get past his rugged good looks because of what I have read about him and his interviews and never need to fantasy about him.

Although if Portman is spewing those stories, we’ve all heard them and it will more likely come back to bite her in the ass then it will affect Bale and his career.

    • Aussie girl says:

Yes it does sum him up. Didn’t he have a beef with his sister & mother? Good lord I’d hate to be his wife.

      • Chattycat says:

Yes, besides his rant there was the whole family feud issue.

Not that I think Portman isn’t full of herself as well.

      • Mia 4S says:

You mean that incident for which he was never charged with the mother and sister who have been selling stories to the tabloids ever since about how he doesn’t speak to them anymore? Stories in which they also admit he never got physical with them? Really? Call him out for the rant and for being way too serious in interviews but on the family feud? Strictly team Christian there.

      • Chattycat says:

I don’t care if he was charged or not. Over the years I have seen and read his interviews and those of other people regarding him, I can’t put that aside to make him “hot” enough to want to fantasy-fling with him. He is an incredibly talented actor and that I respect but as a person, he isn’t anybody I would want to hang or bang with.

      • Tracy says:

Wasn’t he standing up for his wife as well in this so called family feud. If I remember right they were being really rude to her and it set him off because that is his wife and mother of his children. Not an excuse to be a d-bag but some mothers tend to overstep their bounds with their sons wife.

      • Claudia says:

The feud was actually about his wife, though. The mother and sister were having a war of words with his wife, and Christian defended her and essentially cut his mother and sister out of his life. Who knows what started it all, and it does seem very extreme to suddenly force estrangement between family members… but none of us are privy to what’s going on.

It’s actually kind of interesting, since in so many advice columns wives frequently write in to complain about overbearing mother-in-laws and passive husbands. Christian chose his partner and mother of his children, and I respect that.

  4. Chris: now with 10% less negativity says:

I’ll reserve judgment until I hear Christian’s side of the story. But in the meantime, as always, I’m strictly TEAM BALE!

    • Wizza says:

      As always hmmmmmmmm? Interesting

    • Bad Irene says:

      Team Bale here too!

      • Amelia says:

Literally just stepped in the door from a matinee of TDKR ….
Totally my fantasy d-bag. Although I’m not quite sure he’s as big a douche as people sometimes make out. Sure, he takes things to extremes which I think people could do without sometimes, but by all accounts, according to a friend who went to Leicester square and got his cap signed, he was perfectly lovely. Although, he *is* an actor.
And I’m of the same ‘pot meet kettle’ attitude as others have mentioned above.

    • fanfan says:

      I’m TEAM BALE too!
      Yo Balehead!
      Viva los professionalistas!
If Portman can’t bear it, she just should get out of Hollywood.
I’m tired of crapping films with awful actresses!

    • mayamae says:

Me too. I could never deal with that intensity in real life but that’s not the point is it? I also love his acting so there you go.

Natalie and Christian have been acting since they were children. I’m sure they’ve learned how to get along with difficult people. I can’t picture Natalie saying these things. And her baby is adorable.

  5. PrettyTarheel says:

And considering how method he truly is (ahem, Lainey’s blind)…perhaps it is part of his character to irritate the fark out of Natalie’s character. She strikes me as easily irritated, but who truly knows?

  6. MommaK18 says:

I love Christian Bale. Maybe it is because he’s so “Method” and serious. I think he definintely has anger issues….but I prefer an actor who is serious about his profession then a lot of the ones that party and screw around. He is a great actor….we all cant be perfect in every aspect of life.

    Haha, obviously I’m a Bale lover…

    • Minty says:

I’m sure he is under lots of pressure and invasion of his privacy is no picnic, but the man needs anger management classes. It’s immature of him to lash out. If the rumors are true, he is “screwing around”…with Anne Hathaway.

On a superficial note, I never found him physically appealing. Thin lips that look like a large papercut are a turn off.

    • ivonne says:

I´m agree with you, your comment is the most suitable in this page. I also love Christian Bale as an actor. Creo que nadie puede ser perfecto.

  7. Cherry says:

Natalie looks so pretty in the photos of the two of them in the car.

  8. Sports Gal says:

I would respect the comments if they were coming from someone other than Portman.

She’s just as tedious, arrogant and dismissive as he is.

  9. Forever21 says:

She’s the tedious, arrogant and dismissive.

  10. Mia 4S says:

Terrible person? God that’s a bit dramatic. The rant was inexcusable but other than that? I have heard enough stories about him being quite a decent fellow to extras and supporting actors to make me see all possibilities. A terrible person? That sounds like you are projecting your own beliefs to me. Truth is, we know almost nothing about him.

And the idea of Natalie Portman calling someone else arrogant is hilarious.

  11. Rux says:

If anyone here saw The Fighter, you would understand what a SPECTACULAR actor this guy really is. Not just that role but many, many others. Natalie is a twat and probably because Bale does not fawn all over her that makes him arrogant and tedious. I side on Bale. He is OCD and a perfectionist but EVERYONE knows this and she should have known what she was getting herself into when she signed on.

As for Bale being a d-bag; I could totally see it but I do not want to date him; I just want to hit it HARD once. Conversation not an option.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I think that may be part of it-Natalie is probably used to guys crushing on her and Bale seems too absorbed in acting to really notice.

BUT is you’ve ever worked with an OCD perfectionist then you know how incredibly, well, TEDIOUS it can be and I don’t blame the girl for getting frustrated.

      • Amelia says:

        Ah. I’m OCD….
I now have a totally new respect for my friends who put up with me :s

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        No offense, Amelia! 🙂

I will still say this: At my last job I worked for a real “nice” lady who unfortunately, didn’t know her ass from her elbow. Now I work for a hard-ass perfectionist who is pretty much a bastion of knowledge for the work I specialize in.
Of the two, I prefer to work for the hard-ass pefectionist. I always say that I’d rather respect my boss than like my boss. At least with someone knowledgable, you can tap them for their knowledge, plus I’ve pretty much adopted the perfectionist attitude from my boss, which has enhanced my work performance tremendously…er when I’m not on C/B that it ….

        ****closes website window***

    • Mira says:

@Rux – The Fighter. Yes! If his OCD results in creating a character like in The Fighter, I’m all for Bale-OCD. Nothing pisses me off more than lazy acting. I don’t care about their off-screen personality except for the Polanski types. If I did, I’d have to blacklist almost all of them.

      Natalie, ahem, is overrated, imo.

    • Dannii says:

you know, didnt consider that until you said it-Natalie does strike me as someone if you dont fawn all over here she thinks you’re being arrogant when in fact that makes her arrogant. i remember on film 2012 one of the reviewers said somthing along the lines of her acting, like her, is pretentious. ah well.

  12. TheOriginalKitten says:

Kaiser when I read the quote I was going to say EXACTLY what you said: Tedious and arrogant, yes. Disgrace to the acting profession? Um, no.

There are a lot of talented and brilliant people in any industry that are just total a-holes, but that doesn’t negate the fact that they’re brilliant and talented.

Despite the fact that I want to bone Bale’s brains out, the guy seems like a COMPLETE pain in the ass. He seems temperamental and full of himself.
But Natalie doesn’t seem like a walk in the park either-sounds like a typical case of 2 egos fighting for control.

    • Ginger says:

Agree with you completely! Even in my humble profession I have co-workers I don’t get along with and think are a pain in the arse! I can’t even imagine what it must be like as a famous actor since they must have their ego’s stroked constantly.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

“He’ll insist they shoot over and over again because he didn’t like how he punctuated a line or something. Sometimes they wind up spending all night on the set just to satisfy Christian’s obsessive perfectionism.”

He might be a perfectionist, but in the end the boss is Terrence f*cking Malice, who worked with CB before on The New World, I don´t think he has the hubris and is professional enough to actually mess with TM and demand to reshoot scenes.
Also the plot of Knight of Cups is “A man is in search of love and truth”, so Bale is the main character and Portman is just another supporting actress along with Cate Blanchett, Frieda Pinto, Isabel Lucas etc . That hurts her ego a lot, since she´s probably used to her being the star and everything revolving around her.

As far as Bale being a horrible person (I might not be objective, because he´s one of my fav actors), i think he´s just really akward and generally uncomfortable with any other aspect of the film industry except the shooting of the movie itself, but yes he takes it way to serious.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Hell, if I were an actress of Natalie Portman’s caliber, I’d be more worried about working next to the amazingly talented Cate Blanchett. Not that Portman is untalented, but she’s no Cate.

I def. don’t think he’s a terrible person either, more likely just a pain. Again, some of the most brilliant artists are difficult to deal with mainly because they’re the actors who are the most passionate about the profession, they’re not necessarily out there holding babies and taking pics with the public; meaning PR and “friend-making” isn’t really their strong suit.

      • diana says:

She has bigger role than Isbale Lucus and those other girls. Natalie and Cate has been filiming for weeks with Christian while Isbale and other have only done like one week with him.
That chick form slumdog millionare right?Pff. Abosulety terrible actress. She was in the Planet of the Apes movie with James Franco and the apes acted better than her. Thank god she didn’t have much screen time. She is so ugly too. I have a feeling she only has a one scene in this movie.
Natalie can act circles around the likes of that ugly, untalented third world woman.

      • Frois says:

Natalia can act. Slumdog girl can’t act for shit. She only has a cameo role. The two leads are either Natalie or Cate, Bale is obviously the leading man.

  13. lily says:

Bale doesn’t strike me as an arrogant person, but his temper is really an issue. And Portman should look at herself before she calls anyone arrogant.

  14. Billy says:

Does Natalie need to stink-eye every pap that takes a picture of her with her kid? Like they’re not going to attempt a picture when she’s out with him? Standard.

    • mayamae says:

I have no problem with that at all. Plus, I think it’s probably harder to sell the pic with her glaring at the camera than smiling.

Everyone is demanding Suri be left alone from the paps. I think Natalie has the right to dislike her baby being photographed. To my knowledge she has not sold any pics.

Just because people dislike her, that doesn’t negate the fact that she is one of the celebrities who has tried and is mostly successful at shielding her child from the paps.

  15. TXCinderella says:

I just saw Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Rises last night. He is a terrific actor, and a good looking dude, too bad his personality reeks. We have all heard the stories about how stuck up Natalie is. I bet those two will be at each others throats by the end of the shoot.

  16. Eleonor says:

I don’t know why, but the last sentence “a great actor and terrible person” made me think to Marlon Brando.

  17. Julie says:

he is a brilliant actor but i also have problems with someone taking it sooo serious. i cant respect james im pooping art franco anymore either.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Oh! That’s MY shame f*ck. James Franco, art hipster pot head arrogant d-bag.

  18. Annie says:

When will Natalie Portman learn to shut the fuck up?

  19. The Original Mia says:

Isn’t this the pot calling the kettle black? She doesn’t exactly give off warm fuzzies herself.

  20. lower-case deb says:

What kind of a PR tear is Miz Portman on now?

Bale is of course “a disgrace to the acting profession.”
but she is definitely “too much of a professional to actually quit”, all quietly suffering.

    No, really?

  21. kpist says:

Last night I watched Hemingway & Gellhorn. And I fell asleep with the news on and this am it was blasting the shootings in Colorado at a theater that was showing Dark Knight Rises, so I had a dream about Bale, only he was manly like Ernest Hemingway and sexy like Clive Owen, man, it was awesome

    • Rll says:

I’ve met Clive Owen, and trust, he must wear a LOT of cover up cos he is looking rough

  22. Sirsnarksalot says:

I’m guessing he is calling for constant redo’s of every scene because HER acting sucks. She just can’t phone it in with someone as committed to the final product as he is. He is intense but he has boatloads of talent so who cares if he’s demanding on set. With what actors are paid they should work as hard as he does.

  23. alonsyalonso1 says:

Natalie Portman calling someone else arrogant is laughable. Honey, get over yourself.

  24. MK yarwood says:

Didn’t Pete Sellers say he’d had his own personality surgically removed, so he could better inhabit his characters?

  25. see says:

Natalie Portman is a self-entitled idiot; always was, always will be.

  26. Ranunculus says:

I always thought of HER as arrogant.
Maybe she can’t stand him because he is a better actor than her. I think she only got the oscar because she knows the right people in HW, terribly overrated imho!

    • Chris says:

Totally agree, she’s one the worst actresses I’ve ever seen; a marketing product in the hands of the right people.

      • Palefire says:

Thank You Amen. She really really sucks talk about over rated and treated like a above it all princess in the press and everything!!! she’s so smug to me and SUCKS at her job ….. She’s such a shatty actress.

      • Minty says:

Come on, she’s hardly one of the worst. I don’t find her personality that interesting, but as an actress she did a decent job at age 13 in Leon: The Professional and she was good in V For Vendetta. Very few American actresses can convincingly play an Englishwoman. Rene Zellweger, Julianne Moore, and Gillian Anderson come to mind. I also begrudgingly give Gwyneth credit for her role in Emma.

When I think of terrible actresses, I think of Megan Fox, Scarlett Johansson, and Vanessa Hudgens, the ones who won’t ever get Oscar nominations.

  27. LangenDix. says:

Bale might be an asshole, but Portman isn’t better. Both are arrogant people. the diff is that Bale doesn’t PRETEND to be humble and nice and Portman does…when promoting herself and her movies, of course.

    • CC says:

Too right. And…well if you mumble Christian Bale it sounds like..Christian Grey…. Douchey McDouche. Besides, I believe his American Psycho persona of Patrick Bateman was an inspiration for Christian Grey anyways. 2+2=4!

      • ZenB!tch says:

The way I (almost) got through the Grey books was by reading Grey in a Bale Batman voice. It made it funny until it just became too much bad writing.

  28. Lucy2 says:

I think they are both talented (him more so) and used to doing things their own way, so I could see them clashing. He’s a brilliant actor but I would imagine a challenge to work with.
We’ve all had to work with people we didn’t get along with- can you imagine having it written up in the gossip columns though? Ugh!

  29. Ginger says:

Yah I’ve harbored a massive crush on him for years and he does invade my fantasy life once in a while…maybe it is that whole cocky, arrogant vibe? I like that in spite of myself (reference my ex husband! LOL! arrogant? check! Cocky? check!) Well that and he’s hot! Sorry Kaiser…slinking away in shame…

  30. barb says:

I used to absolutely love that man, but when he had that meltdown on set that time, it ruined him for me. He obviously has no respect for other people’s feelings whatsoever. What he did was abusive, and that’s scary.

  31. barb says:

I’d love to know what Russell Crowe really thought of him when they filmed 3:10 to Yuma. Publicly he said he thought he was a good actor. Russell Crowe has a temper too, but he’s not known for treating people like that. Wonder how it went between them.

    • lucy2 says:

Oddly enough, not long after that came out I remember hearing that the crew got along great with CB but didn’t with Russell. Who knows though.

  32. Memphis says:

Didn’t she already know he’s tedious, arrogant and dismissive? I thought that was pretty much common knowledge.

Huh.. maybe she just missed the memo while she was off somewhere being tedious, arrogant and dismissive.

  33. Vivian says:

I think her ego can’t handle the fact that he’s a good actor— she’s threaten since her acting is not anywhere as good.. It’s really something that she won that Oscar for all the campaigning w/ Black Swan. He most likely to have faults but at least he’s good at acting and makes good movies. I also think she shoots the eye glare at the paparazzi for taking photos of her baby since she doesn’t want ppl to see how much he resembles Darren A. Seriously, the baby looks so much like Darren and Rachel Weisz’s boy when he was a baby. Many ppl thought Rachel left Darren for Daniel but it was over when Darren and Natalie got together behind the scenes. hmmm have to see about Christian and Ann….

    • Kenny says:

Her baby does look like Rachel weisz’s baby…..wow I totally believe that blind item now

    • Miss Silver says:

I’ve been reading all the comments to see if someone would say what Vivian did. Yes, baby looks like Darren’s.

  34. jc says:

I think Bale is an extremely dedicated actor and that comes off as an asshole on set, I can see that. However, I went to a screening night of Christian Bale movies and he came and spoke at the event. He was genuinely down to earth and very, very funny. I have been around Hollywood types a lot and he was not full of himself, I think he has an actual nice life off set with his wife and child.

    • I Choose Me says:

See, I’ve always thought that he can be funny (there were moments of levity in American Psycho which I’ve always taken to be a dark comedy) and I’ve always wished he’d take a role that was more light-hearted that anything he’s done in his adult career. I mean he sang and dance in Newsies for Pete’s sake and was good at it too. I really do think his intensity gets misinterpreted a lot and just as you said, his demeanor is more relaxed, friendly and approachable when he’s away from Hollywood.

  35. MooCow says:

LOL!! It takes one to know one. Natalie is so far up her own butt it’s no wonder she is irritated. Plus she is such a bad actor she would never recognize true skills in that area.

  36. fanfan says:

Nathalie Portman is an actress who can’t do something else than being fucked in her films. She could be good, but honestly, she is not so much. In Star Wars she was quite good. Not enough.
But the fact she won an Oscar shows she can win something by doing calssic dance and being touched by Vincent Cassel, and still not understand that, if you want ot do a good work, you have to work for it. So, if she does not want to work with CB anymore, she can let her place to me! She’s annoying. She treats people as arrogant because she dislike working. She’s not a real professional.
Yeah, he surely insults a bit, but that’s the case when people around us are unprofessional. So I understand him. It’s stressing.

Let the PLACE TO SOMEBODY WHO REALLY WANT TO WORK WITH THE GOOD CHRISTIAN!

  37. the original bellaluna says:

He sends my assholedar into the red zone. Always has.

  38. A says:

Hilarious. Chris Hemsworth once implied in a foreign interview that he had issues on the set of Thor with a co-star (which a lot of people thought was Natalie). He said something like he got along well with everyone on the set of The Avengers and Snow White and how that wasn’t always his experience with big budget films. Ted Casablancas was the only who picked up on it and implied it was probably Natalie Portman. I miss Ted, by the way. I stopped reading for a long time because I got fed up with all of the Twilight stuff and some of the insane posters. Then he up and quite E! (or was fired) over the fact that he accidentally named Jeremy Renner in a blind for a brief second before they took a post down.

    • GoodCapon says:

      Which blind item??

      • A says:

It was something like Freddie Friction? About a guy who insisted he was straight but would openly hit on men. Ted slipped up and put Jeremy instead of Freddie somewhere in the posting. They pulled it immediately, but a lot of people screen capped it.

  39. GIrlyGirl says:

What I love about Hollywood is you can watch a-hole actors do their job and their a-holeness doesn’t affect your life in any meaningful way. Also one actor claiming another wants too much attention is pretty laughable, people get into acting cause they need attention.

Fantasy D-Bag – Shane from Walking Dead

  40. I Choose Me says:

Weighing in. Don’t know either of them personally but yes, Bale is known to be arrogant, hot-tempered and a perfectionist. Does this make him a terrible person? I don’t think so. I think there’s a side to him that can be warm and loving and patient. He adores his kids (one interviewer even got him to sing the Power Puff girls song which he says his kids watch all the time) and his wife sure seems to adore him. The part that got me though was the disgrace to the profession part. Seriously? The guy may or may not be a douche but he is a consummate professional and a damn fine actor. If Natalie really said that part then she needs to grab a seat and SIT DOWN!

  41. Ali says:

Princess Smug called someone tedious, arrogant, and dismissive? She’s projecting and forgot to add vapid and overrated.

  42. Zvonk says:

I disliked him before his outburst at the crew member. The general vibe is kind of “off” for me.

He was convinced by his parents not to attend drama school when the opportunity arose. So he hasn’t had any training. Everything he does, he taught himself, and has picked up on set. And that’s all good and well, but one of the most useful tools that actors obtain from training at a drama school is a system of working that enables the actor to replicate a performance almost identically for the variety of shots required for each scene. You can’t give a different performance when the same scene is filmed from a different angle. I think this is why he gets so bogged down in detail when filming, and it ends up frustrating a lot of the people he works with. I know a few professionals working in the business who refuse to hire actors who don’t have any formal training for this very reason.

But the thing that turned me off him completely was when he explained why he puts on a fake accent when appearing on chat shows. (and he does this every time) The reason he gave was that he doesn’t want to “confuse movie goers” by having a different accent in the interview and different accent in the movie. As if the movie going public are too stupid to realise that the people up on that movie screen aren’t real. I genuinely think this guy is incredibly condescending to movie goers. More-so than any other actor in the business.

    • ZenB!tch says:

What fake accent? I always hear cockney, when he speaks in interviews; even though I read he is Welsh.

He lost me when he went at it with his wife and sister. The crew man didn’t bug me as much because it’s a work thing man to man – people get frustrated – $hit happens but this was after the altercation with his family, it shows a pattern.

      • Zvonk says:

I’ve seen him on Letterman, and he spent the entire interview speaking in an American accent. If you check his Wikipedia page, you’ll see it mention there.

During an print interview, Christian was asked why he was using an American accent to promote Batman. His response was “I would expect people to be saying, what the hell is going on? Why do we have an English Batman?”

      • SC says:

His outburst to the crew member was just as inexcusable, in my opinion. I don’t think any distinctions should be made when one person is intentionally and unnecessarily nasty towards any other person. Things can get intense in many different work situations, and outbursts happen, but to my knowledge, Bale didn’t even apologize until word got out and threatened to tarnish his image (whatever it was at the time).

I think Bale is talented. However, I also feel that he is a bit forced in his acting. And he has definitely always seemed like one of those overly Method actors who takes himself way too seriously.

I never noted the deliberate accent changes until I saw Bale doing an interview on TV recently for TDKR. The first thing I thought watching this interview was, “Why doesn’t he sound Welsh anymore?”

    • zenb!tch says:

I meant mother. That was a typo. I know my gossip. Really. I pride myself in it Alas, my typing skills are not. However, I am here to apologize him. After what he did today, I have changed my mind about him. He’s troubled but he’s a good person underneath.

  43. Emily says:

I actually don’t see where Christian Bale is a great actor. He’s competent — nothing glaringly bad. But he’s never impressed me either. He’s just another Hollywood douche who thinks he’s more talented and important than he is.

    • hihere says:

he apologised to the entire crew the after the rant. the whole thing happened in july 2008. the rant video was leaked in feb 2009. so it is not that he apologised when it went public. get your facts right. he just came out explaining to the situation.

  44. RHONYC says:

is that the explanation behind that Oscars pic? lol

Natalie’s face is like…”ugh, don’t touch meeee, puh-leeze don’t touch meeee! imma throw up! ew, grossy-gross-meyer, ew!” 😡 😳

    • ZenB!tch says:

Do you blame her? He has a rep as an abuser of women (and crew people) and he looked unclean with that beard and in all that black.

Yeah I’m a bit of a snoot too – my issue is hygiene. I would have been the same way.

And no, I am not really fond of Natalie because I think she is a fake goodie-two-shoes but in this case, I relate.

      • zenb!tch says:

@Elle I actually came back to this thread to apologize to him. Not that I think he reads these sites but I’m not going to tape a note to his door. That would be creepy. He does read some of this stuff somewhere because he showed up in Aurora about as quickly as humanly possible once that FB post went viral.

So Mr. Bale, I apologize for calling you a misogynist abuser of women. I get upset when I hear someone larger picked on someone smaller.

However, I never chose to excoriate you for the incident with the crewman. I’ve worked with a$$holes and I have worked with idiots and I have been on both sides of a rant and sometimes that is all that is left. I’m not as “professional” (vain, masochistic) as Natalie. I quit because my asswipe and idiot was my boss and I made sure she knew in anal specific detail why I thought she was unprofessional and an embarrassment to the company. She was fired a few months later but enough about me.

I’ve heard Terrence Malick is no peach either.

  45. iseepinkelefants says:

My love for him started in 1994, before he was known for being an ass so that’s my excuse. Although now it’s more like ‘hmmm I wonder what kind of a shag he’d be’, instead of ‘hmmm I wonder what or childern would look like’.

Oh Christian, why you such an ass?

  46. ZenB!tch says:

I’ve always had a feeling that Natalie can be a tad pretentious and Gooplike but I have also always had a feeling that Christian Bale was a misogynist prick – so as a woman I will support my fellow woman faults and all…. TEAM NATALIE.

  47. Deryn says:

Hmm … I wonder who that child’s eyes reminds me of …

    • A says:

      LOL!!

    • SC says:

      ^This–YES!

I know Nat is considered a Hollywood good girl (translation: spoiled princess) … ooh, she went to Harvard (and yet, she’s dumb enough to compare eating meat to rape but is a supporter of Roman Polanski), oooh she speaks, like, 50 languages (she doesn’t really), and more recently, ooooh she won an Oscar (how hard did she and her team campaign to snag that gold?) … but I’d bet money that she’s a big ol’ slutty slut.

And a mediocre actress to boot.

      • Giastrata says:

LOL. There are so many other actors who went to an Ivy League school but they don’t keep brining it up like her. She only went for pyschology, not medicine or law. I used to like Natalie Portman but not so much anymore. Every thing that comes out of her mouth sounds dumb and idiotic. As a person who went to Harvard, shouldn’t she think before she talks? It’s just like James Franco.

  48. LucyOriginal says:

He may be arrogant, but so is she. Yes, she seems tedious too.

But if he is tedious and arrogant, at least he is super talented. I will always remember the first time I saw him onscreen: Empire of the sun! awww 🙂

  49. Not So Fast says:

What a crock of dog poop. Knight of Cups is a Terence Malick film and Malick doesn’t put up with this kind of BS on his sets. Actors respect Malick too much and relish the rare opportunity to work with the man so they aren’t going to eff it up with childish behavior described by the National Equirer. Malick’s notorious for his free-form filming so long days filming are expected. Most days Malick changes the script as he goes along and the actors have to be on their toes. Bale is undoubtedly a bit too methody but he’s not stupid.

  50. TG says:

I think Bale is super hot when he cleans up such as in the batman movies. That scruffy beard thing is disgusting and kills it for me. I don’t get why people think Ralph Feines is hot. He is so gross to me so I guess to each their own.

  51. cee says:

i had a friend who met Bale before, and she said he was a really nice guy, she also mentioned him to be to himself. He talked to her saying something like to not take it the wrong way, but he gets that way around a lot of people, and doesn’t really like big crowds, something like that. I can totally understand that, because I get that way too, don’t like too much attention on me, so around crowds I keep to myself, it may come off as arrogant to others, but not everyone is used to situations like that. I could be doing big events like he has for years, but I don’t think i’d ever get used to it.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

You make a good point – it is always interesting to hear about people who have met the celebs and being around crowds sucks – I can only be in a crowd after smokin a j.

  52. Lorna says:

I don’t buy this story at all. Yes, Bale is a perfectionist but this is his second time working with Malick, who, according to industry folk, is the nicest guy on the planet and has an aversion to “star” behavior. And Malick’s film shoots ALWAYS take forever. I hear crewmembers complain about Malick’s need to shoot everything BUT the script (like his endless nature shots) more than anything else. And as for Bale’s rant on Terminator Salvation, most crew folk took Bale’s side of that issue because the DP was indeed a moron on that shoot.

  53. Rachel says:

Who really takes the word of a gossip newspaper that gets paid to print whatever they want? Sounds like you like to believe the negative that’s said about people.

  54. Nina says:

I’m curious… What make you guys think Natalie is arrogant ?

    • carrie says:

some quotes like “eat meat is a rape” and “i did Havard ,i have a master ” and “Hollywood is so superficial contrary to Harvard”

i don’t think the story is true because after what she said about BLACK SWAN filming,a Malick movie must be some holiday (Malick does few but very long takes), Bale yet worked with Malick before and Bale&Portman must do another movie together

      • zenb!tch says:

She does not have a Masters does she? I have one of those. Now I feel belittled.

        (I’m being sarcastic).

I also thought Christian Bale was an uneducated blah blah but I’ve been Googling him a lot today since he impressed me beyond anything I ever expected and I have found a reference to him quietly attending a college in Southern California. I hope it’s my alma mater. Not because I want to claim him but because I don’t want to taint him. Franco went to the rival school and he really annoys me. More than Natalie-Goop and Bale put together.

  55. carrie says:

you can see some daily pics of the filming every day (but really every day)http://www.justjared.com/?s=knight+of+cups it seems okay between them

and honestly i don’t see Portman thought he’s too method after what she said about BLACK SWAN filming

    • zenb!tch says:

Is she method? I have never cared enough about her to know. I know way too much about Christian Bale so I guess I must care about him.

I still think he looks gross in that pic with Natalie. It’s one of those things that makes me glad I’m a woman. If I have to dress up, I get to wear short sleeves. No sweat. Love that.

  56. LittleDeadGirl says:

I don’t know I think she seems way more douchey to me than he does. Maybe they don’t get along cause they are the same kind of douche. Either way I’ve always loved him and I think he may just be a more serious person and more direct about this feelings and people call that asshole. I just call it direct and honest. I think this is mostly just gossip though anyway.

  57. NeoCleo says:

This coming from Portman who is known for being a superior snot is just too funny. Ring, ring, hey pot, this is the kettle calling.

  58. Loola says:

Bullshit. If Portman is fed up with Bale’s perfectionism and arrogance, then she’s fed up with acting, because that is what acting is. Personally, I don’t buy the gossip–consider the source, after all. Bale has had numerous people come to his defense and say they love working with him, including his co-star in Batman.

Synopsis: National Enquirer lies once again.

  59. ivonne says:

Certainly, I´m with Mr. Bale I love him, I can´t forget his role in Metroland “Chris”. he is stressed but I think he´s a good person out of hollywood. Gorgeous Bale just relax, tuya por siempre…
