Kid Rock recently got up to some brawling in a Waffle House, and was sentenced to community service by a judge. Obviously, Kid’s got to bang a groupie and work on his facial hair, because he tried to weasel his way out of performing the 80 hours community service. Kid Rock will be heading to Iraq and performing for American troops this December, and requested that the court include it in his community service hours.
Georgia State Court Judge Alvin T. Wong, who denied the request Sept. 30, sees it differently.
He noted that Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert J. Ritchie, had performed for the troops before and “would do so even if he was not under a sentence to perform community service.
“Besides, giving him credit for something he would otherwise love to do in front of a camera completely defeats the punitive purpose of performing community service,” Wong wrote.
Kid Rock responded on his website.
Apparently he thinks it’s more important that I do something else rather than sing, shake hands, take pictures and spend time with the men and women who put themselves in harms (sic) way to protect the very freedom he and all of us live by.
It’s not that I don’t take responsibility for my actions, because I do, and I have, in more ways than one. The case got so much press (a lot of it very silly press) that I decided before I even went to court that I would have a fundraiser at a local Georgia Waffle House and donate the money to a local Dekalb County homeless shelter that helps families get back on their feet (we raised close to 20 thousand dollars for that shelter).
Kid Rock was clearly having a bad day fighting off whatever disease his ex-wife left him with, so he decided to post this blog entry with the Judge’s name and contact details attached.
It could be argued that Kid’s actions following the ‘Waffle House Incident’ (surely there’s a movie in that title) were actually an attempt to gain favor with the judge prior to the case, not actually a form of community service. While the fundraiser was a good gesture, Kid had just assaulted Tommy Lee at the VMA’s, and was said at the time to have thrown the first punch in both situations. I think he got off lightly with just community service.

I have never heard him perform. Is he any good?
He is an idiot.
I think so. Although I tend to like his country-leaning music more than the harder stuff. It’s hard to believe you never heard his duet with Sheryl Crow, “Picture”. Although maybe you don’t live in the US?
I like him. I don’t care if he’s an immature, hell-raising brat, I just like him for some reason unknown to me.
Syko: Agreed. I love Kid Rock (I’m also unsure why, exactly), and nothing can shake me off that course.
Syko & Codzilla, I like him too, dunno why. But my eye twitches when I see his hair, I want to put a deep conditioning treatment on it.
I have to agree with you, Syko-as much as I dislike him, I grudgingly admit I do kinda like “Picture.” Can’t stand Sheryl Crow either, but for some reason that song just works.
RReedy- I have seen him live twice and he puts on an amazing show. I love the Kid and that he spends his holidays with the troops.
Same here. Like Kid Rock and not sure why. I guess cuz his music is just fun and about good times.
“Cowboy. Baby!”
Yeah, I guess picking up garbage off the side of the road is a better way to serve your community service hours rather than spending time with the troops.
Daisy, I think he probably needs his split ends seen to, also.
I like Kid Rock, too, and agree with the hair comments. Could not for the life of me tell you why, but ‘all summer long’ is a great rendition…
its ma idiol
I do like Kid Rock, but mostly because he reminds me of Mitch Hedberg 🙂
