Emma Watson in a short, white Brood dress in NYC: super-cute & improved?

These are photos of Emma Watson at the New York premiere/screening of her new film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. CB covered the LA premiere photos earlier this week – you can see them here. At the LA premiere, Emma wore a really terrible Armani gown which did absolutely nothing for her. But I think Emma really pulled it together for the NY premiere, right? Everything’s working for me here.

It’s not even that I’m in love with Emma’s little white Brood dress – if you really analyze the structure of this dress, it shouldn’t work at all. But the effect is actually pretty cute, and it looks great on Emma. Plus, her styling is just worlds better – I really like her hair like this, and the heels are great, and I love the ring/finger bling thing on her left hand.

Since I’m not living if I’m not bitching about something, here are my two minor complaints. One, the blue eyeshadow! It’s so wrong! But even then, it’s not a dealbreaker. She’s 22 years old, she loves makeup, and it’s an evening event. I’m not crazy about the blue eyeshadow, but let her have her fun, and it’s not totally hideous on her either. Second complaint: the dress is too short. If she even tried to sit down, she would have been flashing her English biscuits to everyone. Just two more inches of fabric, and it still would have been cute.

The dress is mightily fug, but I love how she’s growing out the hair!
Let’s sum it up: cute hair, fug dress, horrific make up. Pretty girl.

  2. Jess says:

I don’t know how Emma’s face is going to translate as she gets older. Her features are very girlish and childlike.

  3. KellyinSeattle says:

Whoa! Someone cut a sleeve off!! Hideous material . Lay off the eyeshadow, girl…you makeup takes me back to, “The Dancing Queen”…Next up: feathered hair. Nice legs, though. But I’ll give someone a million dollars to convince me she’s interesting 🙂

  4. marie says:

ha, the only reason I came here was to complain about the blue eyeshadow, it needs to stop.. it’s awful, stop it.. not really a fan of the dress either.. I think that ends my complaints but I reserve the right to come back later..

Am I the only one who’s reminded of Cynthia Gibb when I look at her (I just outed myself as old)

  5. Nessa says:

She is adorable, but overall this is not a good look. The dress looks unfinished to me. Her makeup is awful! And, the color of the dress makes her look pale.

  6. spinner says:

This dress is totally fug. The fabric looks cheap & the design unfinished. She has looked soooo much better than this. I also don’t like her hair flat ironed within an inch of its’ life. She’s so cute but she’s fighting it hard here.

  7. Eleonor says:

That dress is a mess, the designer didn’t know what to do, buttons, zip, shoulder…what the hell. The only reason it doesn’t seem THAT bad is Emma, she’s got an amazing figure.

  8. heatheradair says:

I’ll say this — girl picks GREAT shoes.

I actually think she looks cute, most all of the time (she looks like she has FUN with clothes, even if she doesn’t always pull off the avante garde things she tries), but I always have Emma shoe envy. Love me some pumps.

  9. lower-case deb says:

i guess the costume department ran out of budget early on in the promotion tour that they couldn’t even afford a complete dress for this outing.

but that’s okay. that’s the perk of being a wallflower.

  10. Sam says:

Yikes, that mee-mee makeup has to go.

  11. Jenny says:

I always like to defend Miss Emma because she is so adorable. But that looks like a badly folded table napkin with too much cut out at the sides, and she has her “I gotta pee” stance again, which I hate. But she still has a great figure and smile, so I let it go.

  12. Reece says:

The more I stare, the more I like it. I like the deconstruction of it. She wears it well. I don’t get the makeup though. It looks like she slept in her eyeshadow.

  13. GoodCapon says:

No, no, no. IMO she’s always a bit of a try-hard when it comes to fashion.

    She’s back in Brown, right?

  14. dizzy says:

She’s super cute, but that sleeve needs to go. She has such a lovely face that the blue/green eye shadow is not needed. English biscuits…lol.

  15. Emmav1 says:

her hair is growing out nicely and she’s pretty/cute.

I just wish she would stick with school and finish it out (which she will in 2013 as planned) the way most kids do, instead of taking so much time off. I just meant she’s trying to graduate with as little work/credits as possible, which is offputting because she keeps stating education is #1 over acting.

And yes, that’s confirmed. She’s taken 3 semesters off (the Fall 2012 included) and she’s admitted in interviews she takes 4 classes a semester, so yes it’s the minimum possible to graduate at most colleges.

  16. angie says:

I read somewhere that she wasn’t planning to attend the LA premiere but Logan Lerman (the lead of the movie) lost his passeport and he couldn’t attend, so she went at the last minute and had less than 3 hours to find something to wear.

I think she looks cute here but I prefer the j mendel dress she wore at the jimmy fallon show.
And she was so adorable when she did a dance routine with Fallon.

  17. angie says:

There is also the article on lainey about Emma. Apparently the actress James Franco talked about in Interview magazine (with Mila Kunis) was really Emma. She was the actress who left the filming of seth rogen’s new movie (end of the world) because it became too crazy and raunchy on the set for her.

  18. Janet says:

The dress is an epic disaster and blue eye shadow should be against the law. But she’s very pretty in a gamine sort of way and the shoes are spot-on.

  19. serena says:

I don’t like the dress at all. Also, Emma is a really pretty girl but she shouldn’t iron flat her hair..it doesn’t look good on her.

  20. Scorellini says:

I think she’s gorgeous and can do no wrong. She’s just so darn cute. It’s not my favorite dress, but whatever. I’m a total fangirl.

  21. Luffy says:

What’s with that makeup? It looks like someone just smeared some green eyeshadow over her lid and sent her out. I like the dress though. I think she could some rom coms. She has such a cute face it would probably translate well to plucky heroine on the big screen.

  22. Angie says:

She is driving me crazy, I just want to pin her down to a chair and restyle her completely, soften the hair, more foundation, smokey eye, lighter lips. Just the works. Is she doing this to herself??? I can’t imagine why. She has just been doing EVERYTHING wrong lately and is looking so hard. The dress is okay though. Different, but she makes it work somehow. It could be longer but she has great legs so I won’t hate her for showing them. But God. The makeup. The hair. ugh, ugh, ugh.

  23. stephanie says:

wtf she looks like she is wearing a napkin.

  24. Me Too says:

She’s trying too hard to be cool. Wants to leave the Harry Potter image behind but she isn’t the type to wear the stuff she’s wearing.

  25. A says:

She looks cute here, but the eyeshadow is a major meh. Lainey had a really interesting article about her…Basically, Lainey loves her but has been hearing some rumors lately/has witnessed some bad behavior herself. Plus, she insinuates the nip slip wasn’t so accidental. I get that a lot of people on here hate Lainey, but Lainey imo tends to see that everything isn’t always black and white…As in, she realizes Blake isn’t a good actress and may have fucked around but she admires her hustle at the same time. There are a million blonde girls with fake noses and boobs like Blake, but Blake hustled and clawed her way into the major leagues.

  26. mimi says:

    That’s a really unflattering dress.

It does nothing for her figure, doesn’t fit anything, too short, too revealing on the sides, but not in a sexy way at all, so what’s the point?

Really “not so good” dress, at best.

  27. citygirlsf says:

This is what youth is for…wearing exaggerated makeup and silly clothes that would look hideous on anyone over 40!

She can get away with it.

    🙂

  28. muppet_barbershop says:

I cannot stand the solitary wing, actually. It’d be such a great little dress without it.
