Joseph Fiennes still has big, beautiful brown eyes: would you still hit it?

Dude, do you remember a time when Joseph Fiennes was, like, THE HOTTEST thing ever? I remember that. But I am “old”. So gather around, young’uns, and I shall tell you a tale of the late ‘90s. Back in those days, Ralph Fiennes was generally considered to be one of the most beautiful actors in the world. He had two Oscar nominations under his belt (for Schindler’s List and The English Patient), and then all of a sudden Ralph’s younger brother Joseph came around and ladies were like “Ralph what? What just happened?” Joseph played Robert Dudley in Elizabeth, then he played Shakespeare in Shakespeare In Love, and that was pretty much the end of it for most girls. They were in love.

Well, Joseph’s career has been hit-or-miss since his whirlwind success in the late 1990s. Maybe it was bad career choices, maybe he always wanted to be a character actor, maybe he was never as good of an actor as his brother Ralph. I don’t know. But I do know that I feel kind of bad for him at this point. He could have been a leading man, a romantic hero, one of England’s great dramatic actors. But it didn’t come to pass and now he’s in the new season of American Horror Story: Asylum. These are photos of Joseph (and his wife Maria Dolores Dieguez) at the premiere event for AHS over the weekend. His wife is really pretty, right? Joseph looks… um…well, I think he’s still an attractive man. He isn’t as “pretty” as he used to be, although he does still have those gorgeous brown eyes (and to-die-for lashes). The Fiennes hairline is starting to be a problem, though.

So, would you hit it? Would you STILL hit it (if you wanted to hit it in the past)? Would you newly want to hit it? Eh. I’d rather go to bed with Ralph, honestly. That’s the way I’ve always felt. I like(d) Joseph a lot, but Ralph was always my go-to Fiennes brother.

PS… His full name is Joseph Alberic Iscariot Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes. HOT.

meh probably, it was always about his eyes. they’re a pretty hot couple..

    • Eve says:

His eyes are set too close together. That particular characteristic has always been a major turn-off for me.

      • marie says:

really, I can never judge that-I like the color and of course the lashes..

      • Eve says:

I completely misread your comment. I thought you weren’t attracted to his eyes, so I decided to “agree” with you (while adding my take on them).

Well, eyes set too close together is one of my pet peeves. Eyes that are far apart don’t bother me that much — I mean, I see there’s something off but it doesn’t affect the person’s whole look (to me).

    • Meg13 says:

I would in a second! And yes, they are a gorgeous couple

  2. lower-case deb says:

Well, Joseph’s career has been hit-or-miss since her whirlwind success in the late 1990s.

he’s beautiful alright, but not *that* beautiful, kaiser!

for me, it’s still Ralph (Moldyfolds notwithstanding).

  3. Mew says:

He has matured. I wouldn’t have hit him before but now I would.

  4. NYC_girl says:

He’s one of the few men I like with a beard (facial hair, not the other kind). Love him.

    • Christina says:

Yeah, I agree he’s one of the few men who look better with a bit of facial hair, and I dont’ say that often. Eric Bana and Hugh Jackman are two other examples. They both look very very hot with some facial hair, but a bit dorky without.

And I also agree that, of the Fiennes brothers, Joseph is the prettier but Ralph is the sexier, and is ageing better.

  5. Amelia says:

Eh … I’m going to have to go with ‘no’. He looks creepily like a Uni lecturer I had.
I do love the Fiennes’ though. A family of over-achievers.

  6. Hautie says:

Ohhh, I am so looking forward to American Horror Story!

I have purposely stayed away from any news about it. So I won’t be spoiled. I want to be really creeped the hell out as it unfolds. Like last year.

So I had no idea pretty man Joseph Fiennes was part of the cast.

Though I am looking forward to seeing if he is one of the creepy b*stards, that will haunt me this year.

  7. MoxyLady007 says:

His brother has always grossed me out. He made me swoon back in the day.
He is still really nice looking. Almost the same actually.
    His wife is stunning.

  8. andy says:

I’d hit it just to get to Ralph.

  9. Christine says:

Ralph has always turned me off, not the least because of how I’m supposed to pronounce his name (Rafe). Joseph is older, yes, but yes, yes I would hit it. Yes, indeed.

  10. Annelise says:

His wife is way hotter than he is.

  11. Shitler says:

Can we see a picture of him during his hey day? I’m one of the young ‘uns you referred to & try as I might I just can’t picture the hot

  12. MaryJo says:

    Never thought he was hot.

  13. GoodCapon says:

What the… I’ve watched FlashForward (good plot, terrible execution) and I’ve never noticed his eyes back then. Strange.

I don’t really keep a close eye on him, but he was never that big a star right? I guess looks could only take you so far… ‘coz his acting sucks. He and Emma Watson probably had the same acting coach.

  14. mln76 says:

I thought he was hot back in the day but Ralph was always hotter…now there’s no contest.

  15. Amandahugandkiss says:

If you want to see his best film, check out “Matha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence’. A total hidden gem from the 90s. Brilliant. And he is sooo dreamy in it.

    You won’t be disappointed.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

@Amanda: Are you from England? “Martha, Meet Frank…” was it’s original title, but it was released as “The Very Thought of You” in the states, hence why I asked where you’re from. 🙂

  16. Ella says:

I always thought his eyes were too close together, which is a horrible thing to say about a person because it can’t be changed. But also, FlashForward was a DISAPPOINTMENT.

  17. The Original Original says:

yes, yes I would. I loved him as Merlin in the ill fated Camelot series

    • EscapedConvent says:

YES!! I didn’t know anybody watched Camelot! But the cast! James Purefoy for just a few episodes—they were crazy to let him go so soon. (I hope that wasn’t a spoiler, but it was in all the reviews.)

Joseph was a fantastic Merlin. Interesting character part for him, because when he was younger he would have been cast as Arthur I think.

Also, the only actress who ever did justice to Morgan LeFey was Helen Mirren, & at least for me, Eva Green knocked that out of the park. She was mesmerizing & deliciously wicked.

      • Minty says:

Yes, Helen was excellent in a film filled with excellent actors (Excalibur). Nicol Williamson was terrific as Merlin. I think that movie was one of the best versions of the King Arthur mythology.

  18. Darlene says:

I’d like to be the filling in a Fiennes-brother sandwich.

  19. Gene Parmesan says:

I’ll take them both! ain’t nothing wrong with that

  20. Mia says:

His long eyelashes freaks me out, reminds me of Bambi lol. His nose appears to have gotten more prominent in the years as well. So pass.

  21. Adrien says:

The last time I saw him was on “The Great Raid”. His wife is hot.

  22. Joan says:

Where is the love for Joseph?
In all seriousness, he is one of nicest, down-to-earth chaps I have ever met. I got invited to one of his movie premiere’s and he was so obliging when I spoke with him and finally asked for a photo. I wish him all the best. His career may not be as “stellar” as his brother’s but the guy is a winner in my book.

  23. Azurea says:

    In a word, YES.

  24. MST says:

I remember him in “Elizabeth” with Cate Blanchett and I thought he was a wussy. He seems a bit too much of a metrosexual type to me.

As for the people saying his eyes are too close together — close together eyes don’t bother me but really far apart eyes (Britney Spears) and beady rat eyes (Ben Affleck, Richard Gere) are annoying.

  25. kibbles says:

I thought he was incredibly sexy in Shakespeare in Love. Always thought he made some poor career decisions (anyone see that awful movie he did with Heather Graham?) after SiL which should have catapulted him to the A-list the way it did to Gwyneth Paltrow’s career. I always thought Joseph looked better than Ralph. He still has sexy eyes, but he hit his prime in the late 90s.

  26. Melissa says:

His wife is absolutely stunning. I wish I looked like that!

  27. Sweet Dee says:

All I see is an older version of Adam Levine, although nearly guaranteed to be less douchey.

So yes, I would hit that.

  28. Scarlet Vixen says:

I have been madly in love with this man since I was 17yrs old (I’m now 33). I always found Ralph to be attractive but slightly creepy, so when Joseph came about I was in LUV. I’ve always been secretly glad his career didn’t get huge so I could keep him all to myself. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen “Shakespeare in Love.” His Bambi eyes are so melty.

Okay, I just realized I sound crazy, so I’m gonna stop now. 🙂

    • EscapedConvent says:

Not crazy at all! I agree about the Bambi liquid-chocolate eyes. I’ve always adored him too. Since you feel this way about him, did you see “Forever Mine?” Get out your handkerchiefs. To meet someone like that character, Alan? Yes, please.

      • ViktoryGin says:

        O.M.F.G.

I was in love with this man when I was teenager. I had a thing for geminis.

And yeah. I still would. Hairline and all.

  29. dooliloo says:

    Joseph Alberic Iscariot Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes.

Well only for the pleasure to pronounce that name during steaming hot sex, hell yes I’d hit it!!!!

P.S: I can’t help but pronounce Hiddleston instead of Twisleton… oh well!

    • EscapedConvent says:

I’ve never seen his whole name before. Shell-shocked! Oh, those delicious British names. Er…does this mean that Cumberbatch may not hold the title for Best British Toff name?

    • taxi says:

Iscariot, as in Judas? Odd choice.

  30. vvy says:

I used to like him, but he was always drawn to those intense, over the top, obsessive maniac type roles….I think he’s a bit like that in real life. Passionate, but probably obsessive and jealous and drama-queenish.

  31. Jany says:

I never paid that close attention to the younger Fiennes, but in these photo’s he’s my eye colour twin. His is quite the same as mine – not actually brown, but green with a brown middle and a blue circle. Weird!

  32. j.eyre says:

They are a lovely couple- both look wonderful.

But alas, I had it so bad for Ralph after Quiz Show that I will have to decline out of loyalty.

  33. Mouse says:

Ew, no. He’s done something to his nose and it did not turn out well. He looks…off.

Ralph, hands down. Still hot with the shaggy old man beard, I totally would. Don’t believe me, go watch Wuthering Heights with Ralph as Heathcliff and Juliette Binoche as his Cathy.

    • Justyna says:

I remember that a few years ago he had a serious surfing accident and it was pretty scary. He was catching a wave, lost control and was smashed in a face by a surfboard. His description is hard to forget – apparently his lower lip was literaly ripped open with the teeth and bones showing and skin hanging off. I guess his nose was damaged too, because it looks much worse since then. He was once known not only for his eyes and eyelashes but also for his full lips but after the accident he lost this part of his charm. Not that I’m complaining, accidents happen and he’s lucky nothing worse then losing part of his appeal happened and that the surgeons were able to reconstruct his lips. The scars are showing, especially in the close-ups and part of his lower lip is not pink because they used a skin from his earlobe.

      • Mouse says:

Whoa, that is scary. I’m glad they could patch him up. I loved his old nose, he used to look so earnest and adorable. :/

      • Amy says:

Wow! I didn’t know that. But now that you mention it, I can see the scars on his lower lip. He’s a lucky guy!

I was always into Ralph and HIS amazing eyes back in the day. I did like Joseph to a lesser degree, but only because I liked Ralph so much.

  34. Sara says:

I would also have to pass out of loyalty to Ralph (my beautiful, naughty man) unless of course It was the aforementioned Fiennes sandwich. I would be willing to make the sacrifice!

  35. dj says:

Gorgeous couple. His wife is very beautiful. I think he is better looking now than when younger. His brother has a more scary vibe.

  36. Amy says:

    Oooh, his wife is beautiful!
