Did Pippa Middleton cancel her American book tour because of Kate?

Quite honestly, I do NOT hate Pippa Middleton’s outfit here. These are photos of Pippa today, in South Kensington, wearing something… well, I wouldn’t wear it. I don’t like those sleeves (for me), but I think the outfit on the whole is pretty good for Pippa. I’m jealous of her legs.

You may be wondering, “Hey, why is Pippa still in England? I thought she was supposed to be promoting her ‘Celebrate’ book in America, because they gave her millions of dollars?” Well, Pippa’s book is out in less than two weeks… and there’s nothing. No press, no TV interviews, no magazine interviews. Is Pippa going to promote her book at all? Or has she refused?

Pippa Middleton was all set to become even richer and more famous on this side of the Atlantic later this month thanks to a U.S. tour to promote her new party planning book, Celebrate. But the tour has been cancelled out of concerns it might draw further attention to her sister’s topless photographs.

Pippa was fielding interview offers from Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper and Ellen DeGeneres, according to the New York Daily News. The newspaper added that, according to marketing experts, the 29-year-old sister of the Duchess of Cambridge could have pocketed as much as $600,000 (U.S.) from appearance fees during the tour.

Problem is, now that the world has seen her sister’s boobs, that’ll likely come up as a conversation topic during her tour. She’s bound to be asked about it by someone, right? And whatever Pippa might do to deflect such questions, the Royal Family does not want any further discussion of the scandal, in any form. And so Pippa’s tour has been kiboshed.

“If Pippa is quizzed about Kate’s topless pictures, then whatever answer she gives will generate more news about the matter, and upset Will and Kate,” an unidentified source told the New York Daily News.

Pippa isn’t commenting on how she feels about the matter, but she can’t be pleased.

“Viking [her publisher] was hoping that there would be a huge swell of publicity for this book which would lead to sales. Nobody has really ever heard Pippa speak before and U.S. audiences are fascinated by her. This could have launched a new lucrative career here,” the source said.

The cancellation of the tour also looks to be hurting Viking because – surprise, surprise – people were more interested in talking to her than they are in her book.

“Viking Press are in a bit of a pickle with publicity for Pippa’s long-awaited book,” a source told Radar Online. “They have tried to get Celebrate serialized in the States, but no one is interested in that. They just want a piece of Pippa.”

Celebrate is set to be published in the U.S. on Oct. 30.

[From The Globe & Mail]

Right. Because no one really cares about Pippa’s tips for party planning (well, maybe Blake Lively cares, but that’s it). We just want Pippa to do some press. As far as asking Pippa about her sister’s Crumpet-gate…surely the geniuses at Buckingham Palace and St. James Palace could come up with a nice, non-committal talking point that Pippa could use…? Something like, “Well, I think the paparazzi are very intrusive, and my sister and her husband successfully sued the French publication that initially published the images, and I think that speaks for itself.” There. Done. I’m officially an adviser to the royal family.

I bet the Viking Press people are having an absolute FIT. They paid her all of that money in an advance for this dumb book, and now she’s not going to promote at all because of her sister’s boobs? Idiotic and unprofessional.

    Oooh, I like it too!

And I am not a Pippa or sweater dress fan and I REALLY despise booties but I am liking this whole look! A+

I really think the whole boob thing would be pretty easy to keep off limits in an interview. Esp for the kind of milquetoast places she will be interviewing but I guess she is afraid to risk it…?

    • bettyrose says:

+1. She has slammin’ curves in that dress. Nice change for Middleton.

    • MoxyLady007 says:

How is her skirt not riding up from static on the tights?!? Someone tell me! Also please don’t say slip. They don’t work that well with cotton tights!

      • daisydoodle says:

I don’t know if this helps, but to reduce static cling you can rub hand lotion on the stockings and will allow the dress to fight the static cling…for a little while anyway

    • Cherry says:

Me too! It looks so comfy as well.

  2. Amelia says:

Completely unrelated, but I’m still having issues believing she’s the younger sister.
And that’s why I always wear factor 50!
Personally I think it’s a bit chilly at the moment to be wearing a little dress like that, even if it is a sweater dress. It is quite nice, though.

    • virginia5 says:

Don’t worry I don’t believe it either lol.

    • Annie says:

I just skim most royal stuff, and without your comment, I never would have noticed she WAS the younger sister. I pegged her around 35.

      • Ellie66 says:

Wait what she is the younger sister ? Wowza she looks way older the Kate. But I do love the dress the shoes not so much.

  3. Eleonor says:

Great legs, but that shoes are awful.
” whatever answer she gives will generate more news about the matter, and upset Will and Kate”.
Can Pippa do something without upsetting Will and Kate?

  4. Hautie says:

I believe if Pippa did not want to be quizzed about naked pictures of her sister. Her PR team would make it clear not to ask them. End of story.

It happens all the time with interviews of celebrities. If they want a topic to be ignored, it is.

The girl is supporting a book about event planning. Not a book about tits. So the topic should not even be brought up.

But then again, we are living in the world of rude ass behavior from media types. Looking for a sound bite. To take out of context.

    • emmie_a says:

Yeah I’m not buying this story bc I’d think her PR team would set the interview guidelines beforehand and let everyone know Kate’s boobs are off-limits.

    • j.eyre says:

“I believe if Pippa did not want to be quizzed about naked pictures of her sister. Her PR team would make it clear not to ask them. End of story”

      – that’s what I thought.

Well, goodbye future book deals for Pippa!

There was a rumor going around that she wasn’t allowed to promote her book but the Palace shut that down by putting out a statement saying she’s a private citizen and can do whatever she wants. And if Viking was dumb enough not to secure promotion obligations in writing, well, then Pippa’s off scott free!

The Middletons have had a bad year -Pippa’s gun scandal, James used a police officer as a parking valet, they were left out of the Olympics, Kate and William’s popularity has gone down and they got caught lying and skipping out on the Paralympics to vacation (topless and bottomless for Kate), and the story about William possibly buying the Middletons a mansion made it to press in a respectable paper.

It’s been a good year for the haters, though!

  6. Talie says:

I don’t really believe this…this girl will be doing pub. It was probably in her contract, there’s no way she could get away with that. In fact, she’ll sell more in America, is my guess.

  7. bettyrose says:

Wait, this was for an American tour? Are Americans even still thinking about Kate’s boobs? If this is true, the palace seriously overestimates the American attention span for something so minor.

    • hoya_chick says:

I know right? I already totally forgot about the ‘scandal’

I also, agree with the posters up thread, that Viking is dumb not to have gotten her publicity obligations in writing as a condition of her advance. I mean really? They paid her to do what exactly? I wasn’t going to buy her book but I would have watched an interview.

I like the outfit. Best she has looked in quite a while. Usually she looks terrible.

  8. francesca1 says:

I want to be single, and thin, and semi-famous and financially fine and live in london and wear tights and sweater dresses. There, I admitted it.

  9. Jesse says:

She wrote a book? Are people really interested in it? And why is she still being photographed every day? She looked nice at the wedding and it would have been nice if she hooked up with Prince Harry. But that’s where it should have ended. Are we that desperate for gossip? She’s boring. Zzzzzzzzz

  10. Suzie says:

Tough for Viking, but I think they made a bit of an error of judgement here: they probably had Duchess Sarah’s accessibility in mind. Pippa is not exactly on the fringes of the Royal Family either! She’s a bit of a celeb now because of them, and with all that privilege comes caution. Let’s face it, would she get this much interest for promoting her book if she were a Nobody? So she hasn’t got that much to lose. She will have to learn about better timing in future for publicity for any money-spinning ventures. Or marry well first!

    • Raven says:

If they didn’t have it in mind, the palace probably did. I think this is the real concern. Sarah traveled to the US and ran amuck. Then there were Prince Harry’s recent escapades, which could also be on the mind of the royals. Regardless of what is said publicly, I think she was told quietly that this promo tour was a bad idea.

  11. pretty says:

she looks like someone hit her face directly with a frying pan.

  12. GoodCapon says:

They’re probably going to ask her about Kate’s royal vag pictures too.

How hilarious is it that the only reason she got the book deal is the same reason she can’t promote it now — Kate.

    • Kellie says:

Hilarious indeed, and kind of sad. Poor girl has to follow royal guidlines by proxy. If she cant live her life by her own terms she should get a nice duke for a husband as a consolation prize (snicker) I would also hope the Royal family intends to “compensate” Viking for the money they are sure to lose by her not touring.

  13. Suzie says:

I’m NOT a Pippa fan, but I feel sorry for her that she has to cowtoe to PW and Waity. Those two are such divas. Wonder how and if she’ll get her revenge.

    • Christina says:

      Why feel sorry for her?

She’s a nobody. Her only claim to fame is that her sister married someone whose only claim to fame was passing through the right birth canal. And for all that, she gets front row seats at Wimbledon, dresses designed by Sarah Burton and her own million-pound book deal.

Can’t manage to feel too sorry for her myself, but maybe I’m just heartless.

  14. JankyWhiteGirl says:

I would like to know which U.S. audiences are “fascinated” with Pippa. I barely care about Kate.

  15. Jade says:

Oh look a plain Jane in London… Really can’t see any iota of special in this girl.

  16. Amy says:

I fully believe this. Pippa and her sister are very close. If Kate (or the palace) asked Pippa not to do press for the book because they were afraid it would draw attention to Kate’s nude photo scandal, she probably agreed. Not willingly, I’m sure, but if the Middletons want to stay in good favor with the royal family, they kind of have to do what they tell them. Pippa might have been able to ask interviewers to not bring up her sister, the royal family, or the scandal. But when you take all that away, what else is there to ask Pippa about? Party planning? How riveting that makes for an interview… not.

  17. Jaxx says:

I don’t understand. Why not tell them NOT to ask about it or she will walk away from the interview. Plenty of stars have things they won’t talk about and they are usually respected.

I bet Angie has said Don’t Ever Ask Me About JA and she isn’t. Simple as that.

  18. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    They’re all so strange.

  19. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I don’t think the Palace cares what Pippa does anymore. It seems like she’s been pretty much marginalized at this point, as the Palace made every effort to reform Kate into a proper princess (born-again virgin status; fake accent; dress-up doll clothing; distance from her common family; etc.). Which is kind of sad, because I think Pippa was the only friend Kate had.

    • Sachi says:

I agree. I doubt the Palace cares enough to protect Pippa or care about her pursuits except to monitor her activities.

They’re all dispensable, the Middletons. The Palace won’t protect them from the negative attention, but they will put a gag order and a cease-and-desist on their activities if the Palace deems it necessary just to protect William. Even Kate can be dumped and tossed out if they decide she’s not cut out for the job.

The only sad thing about this is that Pippa, who IMO is still seeking the limelight, will now have to bear Kate’s reputation and image in mind all the time. She can stay away from the media and live a quiet life. But the question is, does she want to?

  20. FuefinaWG says:

Kaiser, I’m not sure why you are jealous of her legs! In some shots she appears to be quite bow-legged. Not good legs at all IMHO, not good legs at all.

    • GoodCapon says:

She is definitely pigeon-toed and she’s got really short legs too. I think this is one of her few outfits which actually compliments her legs.
