Justin Bieber recently sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview on her OWN show, Oprah’s Next Chapter. I don’t really care about Bieber one way or the other, but some of his statements about his girlfriend Selena Gomez did catch my eye. Oprah asked Justin about being part of such a high-profile couple, and what that’s like, and Bieber said: “Sometimes… sometimes we gotta to take the back exits and do different things, but I never make her separate from me cause I don’t want her to feel like I’m ashamed of her. I feel like a lot of guys do that — especially in the business. They don’t want to be seen with their girl so they’ll make them ride in separate cars and do all that ‘getaway’ stuff. When we get away, we’re getting away together.” And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is what passes for chivalry in this day and age of celebrity culture. “Yo, you my girl, I’m gonna leave the club at the same time, girl.”
So while the Bieb was making larger-than-life pronouncements about his love for Selena, Radar was reporting that Selena is kind of over the Bieb, but that she’s just sticking it out because she’s super-concerned about her “brand”. Ugh.
Selena Gomez is dating Justin Bieber, but a source close to the couple claims it’s become more of a business deal than a romance and exclusively tells RadarOnline.com that the Disney star is just sticking it out with Justin because he’s “good for her brand.”
“Selena and Justin’s relationship isn’t the fairytale romance they’d like their fans to believe it is,” a pal close to the couple told RadarOnline.com. “Justin’s heart is with Selena because she’s his first true love, but Selena is pretty much just riding out the relationship because she knows he’s good for her image.”
And it’s not just Selena who recognizes what dating Justin is doing for her — her entire team is pushing her to stay with him because of the opportunities it’s given her career.
“Dating Justin is good for Selena’s brand. Together they’re a brand!” the source explained. “Everyone in Selena’s camp is aware of Justin’s star power and is urging her to make it work with him.”
As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported on Wednesday, the young couple has been on the rocks recently and “almost break up regularly.”
“Let’s just say that if for some reason Justin’s star ever fell, Selena would drop him immediately,” the source said.
Previously, I’ve discussed stories about Justin trying (and failing) to dump Selena, and how she pitches a fit and he relents. I tend to believe those stories… sort of. I mean… they’re young. It’s possible they break up and make up and it’s all some kind of weird hyper-dramatic thing. But I’m not sure who has more power in the relationship. I do think Justin really cares about her. And I think Selena is a smart girl. So I don’t know.
Meanwhile, James Franco has set the record straight about who he is NOT dating. Franco is such a tool. This is per his latest HuffPo essay or whatever:
I also hear that I’ve been dating Selena Gomez, Kristen Stewart and Ashley Benson. Hot damn, am I a lucky guy. I wish I had actually gotten closer than the 13th row of the theater in Toronto where Kristen gave her On the Road Q and A, but I didn’t; not only did I not talk to her, I didn’t even go to the SoHo house where I supposedly asked her out on a date. As for Gomez and Benson, those are Bieber’s girls and I wouldn’t dare tangle with the Biebs. I heard he wants to kick my ass. Yikes!
Did you get that? He’s not dating Ashley Benson. Or Selena. Or K-Stew. He is dating himself and his ART. This is all very artistic. You just don’t understand.

I’m getting really conflicted messages. First she wants to break out of the Disney mould and runs off to do *ahem* “ART” films with Franco involving bikinis and booze.
…but she still wants to appeal to the Teenyboppers who haven’t got the experience to realise Bieber is a grade ‘B’ brat?

Right, doesn´t make any sense to me either. She wants to transform in an adult actress, but at the same time dating an obnoxious, annoying little brat, who looks 14 at best because it´s good for her brand? She looks like an idiot for staying with him and I don´t think he treats her that good.
She is 20, she should date someone more mature and with the potential to be a sucessful actor like Liam Hemsworth, Evan Peters, maybe Daniel Radcliffe.

I think it does make a lot of sense. Of the two, I’d say Justin is probably the more powerful of the two. He’s got legions of fangirls willing to take Selena’s spot in a heartbeat. Also, Selena is still trying to transition from Disney starlet to “adult” actress, and I don’t think she’s been successful so far. But how many opportunities has she really gotten from this relationship? If anything, she went from “disney starlet” to “Bieber’s girlfriend,” not “hot, young talent in Hollywood/the music charts.”

Well, lets face the facts, she did get more popular because she dated him. A lot of people have become more famous because of who they were dating.
Take Gwyneth Paltrow. No one knew who she was until she dated Brad.
I think Selena isn’t stupid and knows this “relationship” is getting her more press and jobs. She would never be getting these opportunities if she wasn’t Bieber’s girlfriend.

I would love the fancy houses, cars and clothes of a famous person and employing people to tell me how fabulous I am seems like a nice perk, but I just would not want to deal with this kind of crap in my decision making.
Well she is right. She is nothing without his fame. And she knows it. She was some Disney teen who grew up from Disney. Like Hillary Duff or Amanda Bynes before her. And their career went to nowhere after they grew up from teens.
And then Selena hooked up with Bieber, she was lucky to get that super mega hit Love Me Like A Love Song. And suddenly she became famous and powerful. But that hit song ended its run on the radio and… we don’t hear any new hits from Selena. If they will split up with Bieber then Selena will turn into C-list immediately and will vanish from big media coverages. Because no one really cares about her. She always looks like some doll. She doesn’t have any interesting personality.
I have an odd affinity for Selena. I hope she can move on soon & still have a good career without having to hang around with this douche. The longer she’s with him, the more douchy stuff he will say, and the worse she will look.
