Mariah Carey allegedly uses $1900 La Mer cream on her babies’ butts

Just yesterday, Nick Cannon was discussing parenting styles and how different he and Mariah Carey are with their twins. When discussing diaper duty, Nick admitted that he changes more diapers than Mariah and said, “I mean we all do it but, for some reason, I get that duty a little bit more. I am not scared of it. I go in, I put the gloves on. Real men change diapers!” Then he called Mariah a diva. Because of course. I bring this up because Star Magazine has a crazy story about what Mariah considers suitable lotion for her babies’ butts. I shall not hold you in suspense: Star claims Mariah is smearing thousands of dollars’ worth of La Mer on her babies’ behinds. For the love of…

Celebs don’t hesitate to spoil their offspring, but Mariah Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, have a beauty regime that even A-list adults would balk at! Not only do Mariah and hubby Nick Cannon drop big bucks on designer baby shoes, imported Italian crib linens and bubble baths using only bottled water, but the ultrarich parents use pricey La Mer moisturizer as diaper cream!

It’s $150 for one once, but Mariah spends $1900 per massive 16-ounce jar and only uses it on her 18-month-old twins’ delicate fannies.

“Nothing is too good for Mariah’s babies,” a friend says. “She probably spends more than $6000 a month on the lotion alone so the kids don’t have diaper rash.”

But Mariah is still practical about waste: “She uses what’s left over on her own face – why not?”

I’ve wanted to get a jar of La Mer for a while. But at the end of the day, I am a cheap bitch and I’m fine with my Oil of Olay. On one side, I kind of see Mariah’s thought process here – she can afford it and why not? What could it hurt? The babies probably aren’t allergic to anything in La Mer (I think they would have had an allergic reaction by now if they were), and La Mer is THE BEST. On the other side… they’re just babies. What could it hurt to actually use baby products on Roc and Roe?

Considering this is Mariah not really surprising. The kids are too cute.

I wouldn’t pay thousands of dollars on a cream that is pronounced almost as “la merde”, you clean la merde off the babies butts and then put la merde cream on it? Yuck…
If it costs that much, the company could invest on a more suitable name…something more appealing, like “creme de la creme” or “silky soft creme”.

  2. Poppy says:

I dunno, I kind of love that she’s a full-on diva, not some half-assed attempt!

If she can afford it, why not.

  3. margaret says:

seriously cute babies. clearly loved la mer or no.

La Mer really is worth it. In high school I was going through a bad breakout and in a desperate act I overdid it on the salicylic acid creams. I dried out my skin so badly it was peeling in some areas and none of my moisturizers or my mom’s were sinking into my skin. My dermatologist gave me this sample tube of cream to try. The instant I used it, I could feel it really sink in. I had no idea about the brand and went online to buy some only to be sorely disappointed by the price.

It’s the only expensive cosmetic brand that has packaging that looks so cheap but is so good they can get away with it.

Kaiser- I think in my 40’s it will be worth splurging on.

As crazy as it seems it Mariah we’re talking about: she can afford it, so she probably does it. She earned that money she can do whatever she wants.

  6. Merritt says:

I have to question why anyone would make an issue about the La Mer. If she were using some cheap cream, people would complain about that. At least she is willing to spend the same amount on her kids as she is willing to spend on herself.

  7. Birdix says:

Come on… How much diaper rash could 2 kids have that they would need more than one SMALL jar of anything a month? And the point of diaper cream is to keep the skin coated (and away from the poop etc) in a way that la mer would never do, as it soaks in. this is ridic.

    • your mom says:

i totally agree. i call bullshit on the $9000 a month thing. if a 16oz (one pound!) jar is $1900, you’re telling me she goes through almost 5 lbs of la mer a month? i have 2 kids, 3 and 1, and i haven’t used 5 pounds of diaper cream on them in their whole lives. and even if she is putting this cream on them (which seriously, it’s mariah. she would do this) who cares? stimulate that economy, girl.

      • lin234 says:

Maybe her maids and nannies are slathering La Mer on their faces on the sly. lol

      • Katija says:

TOTAL BULL!!! OMFG. LaMer is CRAZY CONCENTRATED. About four years ago, I got six little sample tubs.

I still have three left. Granted, I only use it to spot-treat dry patches in winter, but still. It’s INSANELY concentrated.

      • Isa says:

I want some sample tubes! Jealous!
And yea, I haven’t even used one tube of destin.

Her daughter wears glasses? So cute!

  12. spinner says:

dem babies are adorable. Beautiful children.

I don’t like La Mer & it is hideously over priced.

  13. DeltaJuliet says:

He wears gloves to change his own kids diapers? That seems weird.

    Or maybe he’s speaking figurativly……

  14. babythastarsshinebrite says:

    Luvs it!

  15. KellyinSeattle says:

I think it’s fine….to be truthful, I didn’t think they’d last this long, but they’re still married and I love that they seem like a sweet family. Mariah kind of grows on me, not like a bad fungus needed la mer, but in a good way 🙂

  16. Madriani's Girl says:

I’ve used La Mer. No. It’s extremely thick and no matter how thin the layer is that you put on your face, it doesn’t get absorbed – it just sits on your skin. So if there’s dust in the air or a speck of paper, it will stick to your face. That stuff is a total rip-off. Also, they claim to have healed burn scars from a NASA employee (or something) but every dermatologist out there will tell you that’s impossible. It’s all a big lie.

  17. Katija says:

Mariah won me over in her Barbara Walters interview. I hate that “he’s the love of my life, unicorns leap through rainbows when we make love” BS that most female celebs do. When she was like, “Nick annoys the crap out of me sometimes. He’s a man, ya know?”… that REALLY won me over.

  18. JessSaysNo says:

I can’t imagine the babies would be sitting in dirty diapers all day so why do they even need diaper cream? I change my daughters diaper a normal amount and she’s never had diaper rash or needed cream.

    • Isa says:

My daughter was never prone to rashes but my son is. And quite often I’ve opened his diaper up to be surprised to find poop. Don’t know how he does it. And some days he poops several times a day which causes him to be irritated.

  19. bELLA says:

Go for it! She waited long enough for those precious kids!!They are the cutest kids Ive ever seen!!!!

  20. Kosmos says:

She is a diva, but I love her anyway !! She’s wealthy, so she can afford to use anything she wants on her babies. It certainly is okay with me. Mariah has a super fantastic voice and she’s worked hard to become the diva that she is :- )

  21. Peeps says:

She can spend her money on whatever she wants, but why????? Lol. La Mer is super fragranced and stinks to high hell. That can’t be good for kids, especially kids with diaper rash/sensitive skin. Go to Etsy, get a giant tub of custom made diaper balm with safe ingredients for babies, then use the extra cash to buy cashmere baby wipes and gold plated diapers(Christopher Walken, I love you).
