Angelina Jolie hates Jennifer Lawrence? Maybe she just hates the name ‘Jennifer’

I remember when Angelina Jolie was rumored to be in the running for the lead role in Silver Linings Playbook. Back then (2011), Mark Wahlberg was supposed to take the male lead role, and Angelina was approached about taking the role of the “unstable widow”. Some time passed and stuff happened and now the film stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, and both are considered to be big contenders for Oscar nominations for their roles. I really don’t know what happened with Angelina’s involvement – I don’t know if she simply withdrew from the film, or if director David O. Russell wanted J-Law more, or whatever. But The Enquirer is trying to make it into something:

ANGELINA JOLIE loathes rising star JENNIFER LAWRENCE, sources say, because she believes “The Hunger Games” star poached a plum role from her!

“Angelina desperately wanted the female lead in the movie ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’” said a source close to the 37-year-old Oscar winner. “It was a prime role with great dialogue, and Angelina campaigned hard for it. But once the director saw Jennifer’s audition, it was no contest. Jennifer blew her out of the water, and Angie was enraged!”

“Silver Linings Playbook” features a man with bipolar disorder, played by “The Hangover” hunk Bradley Cooper, who meets an emotionally unstable young widow named Tiffany.

Director David O. Russell says he initially believed 22-year-old Jennifer – who shot to stardom as plucky “Hunger Games” heroine Katniss Everdeen – wasn’t mature enough to play Tiffany, and had Angelina pegged for the role.

“We had a lot of major actresses in town interested in the role, from Angelina Jolie to some other big stars,” he said recently. “Jennifer, we frankly thought, was too young.”

But Jennifer scored the part after auditioning over the Internet phone service Skype – throwing Angelina into a fury! “Angie was beside herself,” said the source. “She screeched, ‘What’s she got that I don’t have?’ The simple answer is youth. Angie’s getting older and the big parts are going to rising young stars like Jennifer.”

Adding insult to injury, Jennifer earned both a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild award as Best Actress for the role.

“Angie’s seething,” said the source. “It’s a juicy, award-winning part, and she thinks it should have been hers.”

[From The National Enquirer]

You know how I know this is sexist? Because the story isn’t about Mark Wahlberg “seething” with petty jealousy and angst over Bradley Cooper “stealing” his role and no anonymous source is bitching about Mark Wahlberg being too old. That being said, Angelina should be working in front of the camera more, and I don’t understand why more studios and directors aren’t bringing her ready-to-film projects. Like, we only really hear about Angelina being approached for roles that still need to be adapted and need like a year of preproduction or whatever.

As for the actual girlfight – I’m sure all of the Jennifer Lawrence fan-girls will find the exact quote, but I’m pretty sure that Lawrence has said nice things about Angelina in the past. J-Law is a fan. And I’d be willing to bet that Angelina is a fan of Lawrence too. Or maybe Angelina just hates the name “Jennifer” always and forever.

Haha you picked awful pictures of Jennifer there! Her eyes look… dead and ghoulish

  2. Amelia says:

Oof, I’m so glad Mark Wahlberg wasn’t cast over Bradley Cooper. He might be your friendly, neighbourhood serial killer, but he kicked ass in that film.

Vis a vis Angie hating on Jennifer? Eh. I think it’s just sh*t stirring. She’s got her Oscar, she’s extremely successful, a major power player in Hollywood. It’s not as if she missed out on a career changing opportunity.

    • OutstandingWoldCitizen says:

I am not a Bradley Cooper fan; he always comes off as a bit desperate. I think its the crazy eyes plus a too wide smile. That said, he was a FAR better choice for the role than MW would have been. MW’s persona is too tough guyish. It would be like casting Jason Statham – whom I really love – to play Romeo. Can’t see it.

      • Tommy says:

Did you see Ted? He was very believable in that one and his character was anything but a tough guy.

    • andrea says:

It’s The Enquirer, so yeah, definitely just a lot of sh*t-stirring. I find it particularly funny that they used phrases like Angie was enraged! / she was seething / it threw her into a fury! It needs to be emphasized that much? I’m not really a Brangeloonie (I’m more Brad, less Angie), but even I can see this story is ridiculous (and yes, quite sexist).

    • ctkat1 says:

Exactly. Angelina Jolie has major pull in Hollywood- if she wants a role, producers and studios move heaven and earth to get her in it. Actors are attached and then drop out of roles ALL THE TIME! Almost every major studio release has a revolving door of actors/directors who were at one time attached and then dropped out. It’s pretty common, and part of being a Hollywood star is knowing that you are gambling with every role you take and every role you pass up.
I read the full quote from the director, and he implied that they looked for a big Hollywood star, it didn’t work out and so they moved down to the next tier and that’s when J.Law got her Skype chance. In the full quote, he’s not acting like he chose Jennifer over Angelina.

Jennifer’s quote (about getting Silver Linings and Serena, both of which Angelina passed on):

Quizzed by MTV News about her feelings about having the ‘Changeling’ star’s parts, Lawrence quipped: “I’m not at the status where I have her roles. I have her leftovers, let’s be clear. She left it for me. I have her garbage.”

“No, that’s a wonderful place to be. I’m an actor digging through Angelina Jolie’s garbage. I’ve made it.”

    • Rhea says:

Wasn’t there a gossip before about Pitt being a fan of Jlaw and Jolie got jealous with that?? 😀 This is part 2 of the “Evil-Jolie-hate-Jlaw” campaign that the media created. 😉

      • bettyrose says:

I don’t see Angie as being a jealous type. I’m not an especially big fan of hers, but I’ve always respected her for really being the first standalone female action star. Jennifer Lawrence has done some amazing work, but I think Angie is in part responsible for the type of roles available to an amazing actress like Jennifer Lawrence. If anything, I could see Angie wondering when these whippersnappers like JLaw are going to acknowledge that, but I don’t see her being jealous.

      • Rhea says:

@Bettyrose : ITA. But some people prefer to believe any negative story that the media spin about Jolie anyway.

  3. marie says:

apparently in HW you’re not someone till Angelina hates you.. this story is bs I think.. If the story called for a young widow, to me, that’s not something AJ could pull off. I’m not calling her old, I’m just saying her face isn’t young..

    • EmmaV1 says:

      Agreed Jolie’s always looked old/mature.

But seriously, the director guy was just throwing around names (who is he again?). I’m sure Jolie read the script and thought “interesting” like she did for Cleopatra and Kay Scarpetta, both way bigger things than Silver Linings Playbook and those things never happened, despite having the backing of people like Amy Pascal.

If you listen to tabloids, Jolie is always being attached to make 6 movies a year or so….except the last time she was onscreen was end of 2010.

Plus J-Law has stated Jolie turned down those roles:

      http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/71752/Jennifer-Lawrence-I-Have-Angelina-Jolies-Garbage

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

“apparently in HW you’re not someone till Angelina hates you” Ha ha, marie 😉

Yeah isn’t that weird? She doesn’t look “old” as in wrinkly or haggard but she looks mature and she’s always had that look. Strange…

      • marie says:

exactly OKitt, I loved her in Girl but I had a hard time buying that she was around the same age as the other girls..

      • Lou says:

I’ve always thought the same about Kate Winslet – she’s always had a mature face, even in Titanic when she was 21.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

You ladies need to keep up with the gossip. Obviously, you missed all of the hub-bub from fans of the ‘novel’ the film is based upon–“The Silver Linings Playbook” by Matthew Quick. Evidently, the widow in the novel isn’t a ‘young’ widow, she’s in her thirties, like Pat (Bradley Cooper’s character).

Ironically, because of your discussion here, I think Jennifer Lawrence looks older than her years. Yet fans of the novel had major hissy fits when 22-year-old Jennifer was hired to play Tiffany. They cried en mass that an ‘older’ actress should have been cast for the part.

    • Snoozie says:

First female action star? Errr… Are we forgetting Sigourney Weaver? And Linda Hunter was pretty amazing at that too.

  4. serena says:

I think Angie doesn’t give a crap about all this, and maybe J-Law too.

    • Liv says:

Yeah, I don’t believe it either. As if Angelina Jolie would care. And I could have imagined her very well as – what’s her name, Tiffany?

Excited for the film, haven’t seen it yet.

    • Sweet Dee says:

      +1

I think it’s a steaming pile. I can’t see AJ getting worked up over something like this. I feel like her response would be: “MMMJennifer Whoomm? Whatever, darling.”

Because in my head she’s a cartoonish debutante, apparently.

  5. lisa2 says:

I know it is the thing to say Angelina hates everyone. but Jennifer said herself that Angie turned down the role in SLP.. just like she turned down Gravity and many other roles.

I don’t get the need that the media has to paint her as some insecure person. That she is scared of any new young actress. If that was the case you would see her working more. Making film after film, but in fact she is working less in front of the camera. Hardly the act of someone afraid of anyone. And again other then the tabloid press and none fans I have never read any account of anyone that has actually met her or worked with her say anything negative. Ever. Every person that meets her or works with her gushes none stop about her professionalism and how sweet and nice she is in person. But I guess that doesn’t make a good story.

and I have read most of Angelina’s interviews. And like her or not nobody can show in any interview in print or on camera where she has said anything negative about anyone. EVER. in fact you never hear her talking about anyone other then herself, Brad or their family. So

    • videli says:

I remember that movie she made with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, Sky Captain or something like this, in which by the way she was so gorgeous despite or because the eye patch. At the premiere she was asked what she thinks of Paltrow, and she didn’t say anything negative, but there was a little reserve and hesitation on her part. She said she doesn’t know Goop very well, but they all made her feel welcome, yada, yada. Sometimes I wonder what the present fiancee of Mr. Pitt thinks of the former one. First guess: major ditz head.

      • Apples says:

The way that movie was filmed, there wasn’t a lot of interaction between them. I remember them talking about it being mostly green screen work, which actors usually hate.

*I do remember a funny picture from the premiere where Angelina and Gwyneth Paltrow are sharing a hilarious look because of their photo op with that crazy Bai Ling girl.

      • Janet says:

She might think it, but she has too much class to say it.

  6. Feebee says:

Yeah yeah, another story about female actors hating each other, blah blah.

I’ve only seen the trailers for this movie and I can’t imagine Angie in the role. I wonder if she’s too big for some roles. I have trouble seeing her as not Angeline Jolie.

Some actors have said in the past that’s why they want to keep their private lives out of the spotlight because it can affect the audience seeing them as the character instead of the actor.

    • spinner says:

      @ Feebee

I agree with you here. Accomplished actors tend to keep their personal lives private for just this reason. They do everything possible to protect their artistic integrity.

    • T.C. says:

The story sounds so fake. Jennifer Lawrence said she only got it because Angelina Jolie turned down the role:
Quizzed by MTV News about her feelings about having the ‘Changeling’ star’s parts, Lawrence quipped: “I’m not at the status where I have her roles. I have her leftovers, let’s be clear. She left it for me. I have her garbage.

“No, that’s a wonderful place to be. I’m an actor digging through Angelina Jolie’s garbage. I’ve made it.”

  7. Toot says:

Load of crap, but not surprised.

Angelina said she was cutting back and she did. Brad’s been filming more movies and she’s taken a break. Angelina won’t be on screen again until 2014. I’m sure she gets offered scripts ready for production, she just turns them down.

  8. Chatcat says:

I never doubted that Angelina wouln’t take aging well.

I have only paid to see two movies in 2012 and Silver Linings Playbook was one of them (I am a Philly girl) and it was excellent! Haters gonna be haters but Coop, JL and DeNiro all should have Oscar nods! It was that good.

    • Kim says:

Actually Angie has said she likes looking older because she looks like her mom.

      • Chatcat says:

It’s not what you look like but it’s how you feel in your older skin. Especially in Hollyweird.

    • EmmaV1 says:

Until Jolie starts getting plastic surgery to prevent the aging process, then there’s no proof she isn’t taking aging well.

Also, if she were scared of aging, she would pile on the foundation to cover up wrinkles like Jennifer Aniston does.

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2151856/Angelina-Jolie-teams-William-Hague-tackle-sexual-violence-warzones.html

Look at the last pic of Jolie on that dailymail website. Look at her crow’s feet and some forehead wrinkles.

Seems like she’s all natural at the moment.

      • truth says:

It always amuses me how people believe what they want to believe. Angelina Jolie hasn’t been “all natural” for a very long time. She ODs on the botox and I don’t know what “forehead wrinkles” you are hallucinating for her b/c none are there. She’s botoxed to the max. The type of crows feet around her eyes are indicative of a face lift (but not 100% sure).

But 100% she has implants and at least one nose job. Maybe some eye work (or that could be the result of a face lift as I’ve said). Angelina is super vain and has had a ton of work. But, that being said, she’s still better than Jen Aniston in that regard who is incredibly INCREDIBLY insecure.

      • Runs with Scissors says:

I agree EmmaV1, she hasn’t had any work done. But people HATE to admit that for some reason.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Truth, who said: “But 100% she has implants and at least one nose job.”

If Angie had implants her Girls would be a whole lot perkier, don’t you think? And she absolutely has her original nose. All you have to do is Google photos of her and compare, making allowances for angle and such.

I think it’s just hard for people–okay, many ‘women’–to accept the fact that Angelina Jolie really is that gorgeous, even without makeup. You could ‘never’ say that about Jennifer Aniston, who even pulled a jacket up over her head and face when ambushed by Paps on the way to a film set one morning after her second breakup with John Mayer because she didn’t want anyone to see her without makeup.

      • Ionna says:

She had plastic surgery, but she looked better with her original face. Both she and her brother have those Voight features – roundish face, thick lips, thick nose, large round eyes. It’s obvious she had the bridge of her nose thinned and cheek implants to make her face look less round. She even has some weird tendon-like things by her neck as a result of her face being pulled, and there’s also a visible facelift scar behind her ear. So yeah sorry she’s had plastic surgery, but I don’t think she needed it, she looked much better with her original features. Lots of actresses do it, they even start young now, messing with perfectly pretty faces. I don’t know why, must be all the pressures of the industry where there’s always someone younger and prettier coming along.

  9. mln76 says:

Jennifer said something specifically about how she worships Angelina and that she can’t believe she is ‘looking through her trash’ to find roles. It heavily implies that she turned it down like sadly did Serena and Gravity.
That being said I watched SLP and Jennifer was so good my only critique of her performance is that she seemed way too young for the part but she hit it so far out of the park it really didn’t matter.

  10. alexis says:

“She screeched, ‘What’s she got that I don’t have?”

    a) hot career
    b) talent
    c) healthy body

    • EmmaV1 says:

      1) Hot career only because of Hunger Games. Jolie is the 2014 main star of the 200 million budgeted Disney Maleficent.

      2) Jolie = has oscar, J-Law = only nominated so far

      3) healthy body? J-Law has a great body, but people like Halle, Aniston, have way better bodies than J-law even in their forties, yet we never hear stories about how Jolie is jealous of them.

      • Petey says:

You guys dont have to hate on jennifer when you stan for jolie. If anything jennifer is a jolie fangirl, she is on record only saying great things about Jolie. She’s a fan.

      • BeesKnees says:

Thank you Petey!! It is possible to like both you know! And just because their comment went there about Angelina, didn’t meet you had to stoop that low about Jennifer!

    • Kim says:

Poor Angie She has an Oscar, the most valuable and highest paid actress in Hollywood. She is a pilot,UN envoy, writer, director and most importantly a mother.I feel sorry for her.She turned down Gravity and Selena.Amy Pascal just did interview that Cleopatra is for her.Off Topic JL recently had dinner we Kstew so that is BS too.

      • flor says:

+1 But do not worry on discussing logical things with JLaw fans because they are slowly becoming like KStew fans: delusional.

      • FirstTimer says:

        @flor
So true and it’s scary because Jennifer Lawrence seemed like an awesome, nice kid in hollywood and seemed genuinely appreciative of the projects coming her way. I think all fandom have its “loonies.” But the “crazies” are the ones with illogical comments and nonsense tirades.

    • Jub-Jub says:

Angelina has bucket loads of talent and a wonderful career. While Jennifer does have a much healthier body compared to Angie, her face is plain. That’s my bitchy comment for the day 😉

  11. La Calabaza says:

Kristen Stewart is the “new” Jolie (LOL). So if Kristen Stewart hates Jennifer Lawrence, therefore Angelina must hate Jennifer Lawrence as well. I know it doesn’t make sense and it’s illogical but that is how tabloids made up their stories.

  12. Tuxedo Cat says:

Wellwellwell. Angelina who won’t audition, doesn’t need an agent, isn’t used to hearing NO. Also, she’s probably jealous that Jennifer Lawrence is getting choice parts without being 85 pounds and a pair of cheekbones / lips.

Also, wasn’t Angelina just talking about quitting acting?

As my father used to say, “These things are sent to keep us humble”

    • Facts says:

Angelina didn’t lose this role and is one of the most humble and kind people in Hollywood- according to many, many NAMED sources. If you don’t believe their words, heed their actions- she is paid very highly, works when/if she wants with whomever she likes. Also, she is one of the VERY few women who can get paid backend on 1st dollar gross. I DARE YOU to find one instance where Angelina EVER said anything bad about anybody except for Charles Taylor. Lying will bring the karma you deserve.

    • EmmaV1 says:

@Tuxedo Cat, maybe your father should have told you about doing your research first and not taking quotes out of context.

Jolie has said she’ll slowly quit acting and move towards behind the camera. She’s done that…with a movie every 1.5-2 years.

Also, J-Law has stated she gets Angelina Jolie’s garbage/leftover roles:

      http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/71752/Jennifer-Lawrence-I-Have-Angelina-Jolies-Garbage

If the role was made for a woman in her 30’s, do you think studios would turn down Jolie for J-Law?

      Of course you would.

      • The Original Mia says:

Facts & logic only serve to confuse them. Don’t waste your time trying to rationalize with them. .

I doubt there’s a rivalry between these two. Probably a healthy dose of respect and admiration. But those things don’t sell copies.

  13. caro says:

maybe she can be jealous because she wanted the role but I don’t believe she hates Lawrence because it’s the usual process of castings(the director and casting director meet several actors for the same character )

  14. V4Real says:

Wow my former girl crush hates my current girl crush. What a bunch of BOLOGNA.

BTW, those are some unflattering photos of JLAW; was that on purpose?

  15. judyjudy says:

Am I the only one who doesn’t care much for Jennifer Lawrence? She’s a lovely girl it seems but….meh.

    • Becky1 says:

I’m not a fan either. She’s a pretty girl with an awesome body but in terms of acting…meh. She’s okay. I think she’s a bit overrated.

I didn’t like “Silver Linings Playbook” that much. I thought Bradley Cooper was decent but wasn’t too impressed with J. Law to be honest. It’s funny about the whole Angelina thing because I thought J. Law was too young for the role. I would have liked to see B. Coop paired with someone a little closer in age (someone in their late 20’s at least). Mainly, though, I wasn’t crazy about the movie because a lot of it seemed very forced and overwrought. It had good moments but it didn’t completely gel for me.

  16. flor says:

I thought she hated Jennifer because she is white trash and not “poised and smart” like Angie. Whatever, this story is bullshit.

  17. lisa2 says:

I saw this part in the write up

Like, we only really hear about Angelina being approached for roles that still need to be adapted and need like a year of preproduction or whatever.
    ********************

You do understand that those scripts in preproduction are scripts that are written FOR HER.. Scripts that are for HER approval. Scripts that she gets to approve or not. Scripts for films that if she says NO they don’t get made.

Regardless of what some people think about her career. Name the other actresses today that have scripts written just for them. Name actresses that have the power/clout to approve or turn down a script. I’m sure the list is very short.

    • mln76 says:

I think when you hear these things you have to take them with a grain of salt. Many times you will see a production company release a dream cast that is fake. If a script/movie etc is announced and they say Angelina Jolie maybe attached they will get a lot of publicity and possibly get their script to the next stage of development by creating buzz it doesn’t mean she has even read the script. Also even if she is interested all at may mean is reading the script once its complete and either approving it or sending it back for re writes (like she recently did with Salt 2) . The movie business is complicated.

      • FirstTimer says:

True. In the case of SLP, it went through a lot of re-writes even during the time Mark Wahlberg and Jolie were attached to the project. As David O. Russell said back in June 2011 that Angie was interested but because of scheduling, that (SLP) will never happen.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

Scripts which are in pre-production often need a big name attached in order to pull investors and get financed.

  18. Mia 4S says:

For frak’s sake people it’s the Enquirer! They do a “Find”/”Replace All on the names in these stories depending on what movie is out.

The tabloid who cried wolf; is if/when there is a real feud no one will believe them!

  19. Nya says:

I could understand this actually. Jennifer’s role in Silver Linings Playbook was originally for a woman in her 30s, and she’s actually supposed to be older than Bradley Cooper. But in magic Hollywood fashion the male director instead decided to cast the hot young thing in her early 20s. Gross.

  20. FirstTimer says:

It’s from NE so of course it’s full of crap. David O. Russell already said in a Vulture article that Angie pulled out because of scheduling but he really hoped they could work on another project one day as he really wanted to collaborate with her. That was way before everything about SLP was finalized. The same with Serena. Angie only wanted to do that with Darren Aronofsky as the director but stated if that will not push through, she and Darren would work on something else. And Jennifer only said great things about Angie (and Brad) and I am happy she got the roles because she really owned it (SLP) and I’m sure she’ll be great as Serena as well.

  21. anneesezz says:

I love how the negative stories are obviously bs and the flattering stories are definitely true. You can’t have it both ways people. I would never have bought AJ as Tiffany. She was supposed to be in great shape from constantly working out and dancing. AJ looks emaciated and gross.

    • Toot says:

Well, the neg stories are always anonymous, but the positive actually have names attached.
People who have never met her are the ones talking negative.

    • Anahata says:

Finally truth. Also I know AJ got an Oscar for girl interrupted but that was the only good thing she ever did. JL is exceptionally talented and consistently so.

      • Kim says:

Yeah in the four movies she has starred in Watch your back ,Meryl.GMAB.JL is a good actress.Saoirse and Dakota are very good actresses

    • EmmaV1 says:

Wait, so if she’s praised by the likes of William Hague, Colin Powell, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Antonio Guterres, Amy Pascal…important people then it must be fake?

But when an “anonymous” source says that she’s a terrible person or people like Chelsea Handler who has admitted she’s never met AJ says something bad, then it’s true?

Btw, AJ has been consistent….she’s gotten good to rave reviews for George Wallace, Changeling, A Mighty Heart, Gia, etc.

If you want to be like “look at Salt/The Tourist for her acting ability..or Wanted”

Well critics didn’t exactly praise J-Law’s amazing acting abilities in X-men and she got slaughtered for House at the End of the Street.

  22. Jules says:

Oh, for Christmas sakes!!…this is crapola. It’s the National Enquirer. Apparently, the role was for Jolie originally and Jolie’s interest in the project waned and so Russell and the producers went searching for a new actress to play the part…enter Anne Hathaway (when Mark Wahlberg was still supposed to play Pat) then Hathaway and Wahlberg dropped out. Enter Cooper, as well as a whole slew of twenty something actresses (Blake Lively was one of them)until finally Jennifer Lawrence auditioned by skype and that was that…Lawrence won the role. It’s a great thing Lawrence did because she is fantastic in the role of Tiffany.

    • FirstTimer says:

Yeah. Actually it was Bradley first (although, at that time no confirmation came from his camp), then David went to his friend Mark, then suddenly it’s Bradley again. I think both actors (Bradley and Jennifer) owned their roles and really had a great chemistry. I hope it’s the same with Serena. That one is drama so not sure if the vibes between them will be the same.

      • carrie says:

it was for Matthew Vaughn and Zoey Deschanel in first then Walhberg and Hathaway (Hathaway dropped in first then Wahlberg) then Jolie then Cooper(Cooper was interested by PRIDE&PREJUDICES&ZOMBIES) and finally Lawrence and Cooper

      • FirstTimer says:

        @carrie
You probably meant Vince Vaughn. 🙂 Yeah, Russell said that, but I took it more as an inspiration for his adaptation. They were never really solid cast/attached to the project. Dunno. I’m now thinking this is probably a tactic of the Weinsteins for Lawrence’s Oscar campaign. It’s like showing how good Lawrence was on the role and how it’s meant for her. I hope that’s not the case because Jennifer’s performance can stand alone on itself but with Chastain’s gaining steam with ZDT, Harvey must be nervous.

  23. Kat says:

She would hate the name Jennifer because she once poached the husband of a Jennifer? That makes no sense.

  24. Jules says:

By the way, Lawrence looks lovely in the above photos…damn, she’s a beautiful young woman.

  25. Jess says:

Even if this were true, Angelina keeps her shit so tight we would never know about it, and no one in her small circle would be dumb enough to betray her. This is made up based on the idea that they were both up for the same role and nothing more.

  26. Jules says:

@FirstTimer: I’m really looking forward to Serena (when the hell will we see a trailer?…is it still in post production?) anyway, the book was terrific and it’s a hell of a character for Lawrence (her first real villain….Lady MacBeth kind of villain). The production still of Lawrence and Cooper looked great, now I need to see a trailer, yeah, I’m excited for this one.

    • FirstTimer says:

As of last week, their status was completed… I am also anxious about a trailer. I was anticipating a darker, meaner tone with the Jolie-Aronofsky tandem but I am excited how Bier will use Lawrence throughout the film.

  27. Jo says:

Say what you want about Angelina but she’s as accomplished as they come… And her role as Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted is as memorable as they come. She was what, 24, when she won the Oscar? And snark aside but you can see how low things have gotten since the late 90s. Lawrence’s Tiffany that’s so acclaimed pales in comparison. She’s popular and a decent actress but she’s not ohmahgodamazing, as far as all her movies go, Lawrence has a limited range, like it or not. Winter’s Bone still remains her best and she sticks with her gimmicks, it will prolly still remain her best work for the next couple years of overhype.
Honestly the quality of movies has taken a beating in the last 15 to 20 years… Even in Angelina’s case, though with the exception of a couple of dramatic movies, she’s more in the action star category.

  28. Aubra says:

I like Mark Wahlberg’s and Angelina’s work, but this casting worked out for the best. I can’t even picture Bradley paired with Angelina in the role…Mark and Jennifer MIGHT have worked though. Wasn’t Angelina supposedly also going to be cast in “Serena” alongside Bradley? Him and Jennifer are in that too, can’t wait!

    • FirstTimer says:

The Serena movie is supposed to be the project of Angie with Darren Aronofsky. But when she was asked by MTV back in 2010 about her rumored projects, she said all of them were still in pre-production stages, including Serena and if that project won’t go through, she and Aronofsky will find another film to work on. No news surfaced after that then earlier this year, it was announced that Bier, Lawrence and Cooper were working on the film. I think Jennifer said that she and Bradley are making a Jennifer Lawrence-Bradley Cooper box set. LOL!

      • Aubra says:

They’re already done filming. They went and filmed in the Czech Republic shortly after they finished SLPB. I think at this point they’re only going to be reshooting small things here and there. But there has only been one still put out from the film…

      • FirstTimer says:

        @Aubra
I don’t know if your comment was directed at me, but yeah, just like what I said to Jules, the status of Serena is completed as of last week. I’m just hoping for a trailer like everyone. 🙂

  29. Oompa says:

Oh man, it’s only when you see Angelina side by side like this with a young person, that you really see how much work she’s had done. And you can kind of remember what Angelina’s face/skin used to look like when she was is her twenties.

Now when you really look at her forehead and compare it to Jennifer’s, it’s painfully clear that gravity doesn’t seem to have any effect on it. Same thing with her jawline. She does have a very skilled surgeon, though.

    • FirstTimer says:

I’d rather believe the people who have seen her in person and gush how good her skin is than your comment.

    • florettta50 says:

Wow, Angelina Jolie is that beautiful and talented that every up and coming actress have to pass the Jolie test. No need to criticize J Lawrence. Every few years a stunning beauty appears , Liz Taylor,Ava Gardner, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie because they have balanced facial features, notice Jennifer Lawrence facial features is like a potato head, small forehead , large cheeks, eyes too close, nothing wrong with that she simply isn’t anything to write home to mama about, but she is still a good actress, good person.

      • ToSetTheRecordStraight says:

Delusion clearly runs rampant on these threads.
Idolize Jolie and convince yourself to your heart’s content that her looks are “all natural.”
But please don’t ever, EVER put Angelina Jolie and Dame Elizabeth Taylor in the same category when it comes to beauty.
        It’s sacrilege.

      • lisa2 says:

        @toset

That’s your opinion and everyone else can have theirs. Just because you don’t find her “natural” doesn’t make it fact. Sorry your delusion doesn’t equate an unanswered truth.

and I think she measure very well in the women listed. I too go by people that have actually seen her.

    • Oompa says:

I actually find Angelina a very beautiful woman, as do a lot of people. I don’t think aging would be a problem for her if only she would put on a few extra pounds. Of course I haven’t got the faintest idea why she is as thin as she is, nor is it any of my business.

But what I do know is that when Maddox was a baby, Angelina was absolutely gorgeous. I love those Vanity Fair photos of her and Maddox in the hotel room.

  30. spinner says:

I think Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing talent. She is a natural — wholesome & healthy looking. I have read over & over again that Jolie & Hathaway lobbied hard for the role in SLP. Lawrence auditioned via skype late in the game & blew everyone away. She won the part.

    • FirstTimer says:

David O. Russell already said that with Angelina, the conflict was schedule so it didn’t happen. She’s already out of the project before he even have the final script. Probably the same thing with Mark Wahlberg because for the longest time, he’s with David, as they are really close, through several rewrites.

ETA: The Hathaway rumor was around the time Bradley was also rumored BEFORE the Mark-Angelina tandem. They were never confirmed by the Cooper and Hathaway camps. Then Mark stayed until he probably had to do other projects and next thing we knew Cooper was in.

      • carrie says:

it was Hathaway & Walhberg :Hathaway dropped in first and Walhberg dropped because of an argument on money with O Russel http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/18/mark-wahlberg-david-o-russell-fight_n_1017445.html
after Jolie (maybe) than Cooper and finally Cooper&Lawrence

      • FirstTimer says:

        @carrie
Deadline HW named Cooper with Hathaway before Mark a couple of years ago. Wahlberg and Jolie was rumored/announced last year (around June IIRC). Cooper then was announced to have come back on the project by August because Mark had to drop out (bec of schedule/delay of the prod). With regards to Vince Vaughn and Deschanel, I took it more as an inspiration for his adaptation.

  31. KellyinSeattle says:

I saw a part of, Family Feud, where the question was, “Name an actresses other actresses are jealous of”….number one WAS AJ, of course. Go Angie!

  32. Amy C says:

They are trying to make this girl bigger but they are going the wrong way about it. I bet Angie doesn’t even care for her let alone who she is.
The girl PR is stupid they are going the wrong way of trying to USE Angie by being put against for their gaining attention and
    fame.Remember Megan Fox? lol

Personally to be honest, after this so much trying to put her against Angie, my look for the girl is totally is fading and she earned it. She doesn’t have the IT probably that may be is her peeps are going this route.

What worse is kasier putting this on here. seriously ?

  33. skuddles says:

    Dark hair really suits JL.

  34. hmm says:

Jennifer Lawrence is looking awful GAUNT these days. Looks like she’s given in to all of her critics. Another one bites the dust.

  35. hmm says:

And I hate to say it but, one of my first criticisms of the Movie X-men First Class was Jennifer’s MOONFACE was very distracting.

But I didn’t mean the poor girl was fat. Just that she had a MOONFACE…..

    LOL

But in all seriousness, the girl was never fat by any means.

  36. Jules says:

@hmm: wtf??…gaunt?. I think back to the most recent pap photos of Lawrence wearing a bikini on the beach in Hawaii and, no, not gaunt. Christ, you even capitalize the words “gaunt” and “moonface”…you have the sensibilities of an eighth grade mean girl (LOL). Well, you tried and that’s what so tragic.

  37. Hipocricy says:

Wait, so Jolie, 37 years old refused a role, then they ask Lawrence, 22 years old, to replace her in that specific role ?

How is it a compliment to Jennifer whatsoever if she gets roles that were previously given to actresses 15 years older than she is ? She is supposed to compete for roles other actresses her generation compete to, the post teenage type of roles, not the ones of women approaching nearly 40 !!. If there is someone who should be upset it’s HER !!!!

And her stans have the nerve to criticize Jolie’s age when it’s jen’s age perception that is in question….but whatever

    • Kate (newer one) says:

Honestly, why does it need to be a contest? JL was brilliant in Silver Linings, we saw it last week. She’s too old to play 16 year old Katniss in Hunger Games, too young for the 30s widow in Silver Linings, but she’s an actor, Dawson Casting is only an issue if it makes it impossible to suspend disbelief, which it doesn’t in either of these cases. For me, anyway, and given the success of both movies it seems that’s widespread.

I think Jolie would have been excellent in it as well, but it would have been a different movie. I just don’t see why it needs to be a contest. They’re both good actors and if Jolie turned the part down and Lawrence wanted it, got it and was brilliant in it, why feel the need to blame either? It’s just a manufactured – and rather sexist in the creation, yes – dispute.

  38. G says:

I don’t believe Angie is upset about this a bit. And Lawrence doesn’t seem the type to get into this kind of pettiness. There’s room for more than one actress in the world. It just falls flat even as speculative gossip.

    • Jaxx says:

I agree that Lawrence seems above this kind of pettiness. She seems to me one of the few actresses who truly appreciates and marvels at her good fortune and is having to fine a time to be bitchy toward anyone. Much less someone of Angelina’s stature in Hollywood.

As for Angie being jealous? Please, that’s just laughable.

  39. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

LOL these comments are hilarious…looks like we have a full-blown JLaw vs. Angie rivalry now. Great.

  40. Jaxx says:

I heard that Jennifer was asked to gain weight for the role. If they thought Jennifer was too thin, then how in the world were they going to cast Angelina? If Jennifer had to gain 10 pounds for the role, then Angie would have to gain 40. Not happening.

  41. Mark says:

AJ hates all starlets. The look on her face at the Oscars when they called out Anne Hathaway’s nomination for “Rachel Getting Married” was a classic. She looked like she wanted to throw up. Such a gracious lady.

    • lrm says:

well, maybe b/c rachel getting married was so toxic taht it makes one want to throw up. lol
i could not finish that film…
at first, i though it was interesting character study and Anne H was convincing, but about 2/3 of the way through, i just couldn’t take another minute.
similar to my reaction with the kids are alright.
the films start out interesting, and veer into pretentious and condescending towards the audience/viewer.

      • Mark says:

Nah. For Angie it was the Mirror Mirror on The Wall aspect of Anne Hathaway that infuriated her. She got used to being The Fairest of Them All. No more.

    • FirstTimer says:

Oh please. Another lame attempt of the gossip media to pit Angie against the “young” actress of the moment. Angie worked/directed Anne for A Place In Time docu and interviewed her fr Interview magazine. Try again.

  42. lrm says:

wait, o’russell quoted that JL was initially thought ‘too young’?
and then, according to article, the ‘what’s she got that AJ doesn’t’ is YOUTH?
that makes NO sense in this particular role/situation….
    waht a surprise-another article f ull of nonsense….
JL has chipmunk cheeks in these pics-which concerns me-eating disorder type.
but maybe just the hair style.
    i’ve never seen her act
but AJ is not a great actress.
though she has loads of charisma and glamour on screen and off; that works for her, boosting her acting skills.
Though, I seriously doubt that AJ ‘seethes’ about any parts/anyone lol.
esp. other actresses. really? i just cannot see that happening, and i’m not even a fan.
she just has cemented her position so strongly, that i doubt she’d be worried and upset over roles.

  43. paige says:

why would angelina jolie be jealous of her.Angelina has more than proven herself. She has an Oscar 3 golden globes and has been nominated once or twice in the past couple of years. She is part of the big leagues in hollywood. She is chosen to direct movies. Why are we comparing these two. Jennifer is just starting out. The morons that believe this have to be just Angelina haters. Angelina doesnt seem to worried about movie roles if she has done about one movie and filmed one in the past years. Family seems to be her first choice now while filming a movie when she feels like it.If you want to compare looks. Angelina was and still stunning. In gia and george wallace she was breathtakingly beautiful when she was the age jennifer is now.

  44. Danii876 says:

Interesting this anger only appears now that the movie is set to win awards and not 16 months ago when jennifer got the role. How convinient for enquirer, right?!

  45. FireCt says:

Jennifer gave an interview for jimmy kimmel around the time of her first golden globe nomination saying she wished Brad and Angelina were King and queen of america and she happily would pay taxes to them….anyway she admires them. This is pure bs.

  46. Kate (newer one) says:

Wait, I thought Jennifer Lawrence was in an invented fight with Kristen Stewart? Now it’s Angelina Jolie?

Poor J-Law. She’s too young for the bump-watch, just, so they’re going feuds instead.

  47. Simone says:

Sounds like b.s. Roles get passed around all the time in Hollywood. I doubt Angelina cares.

Speaking of Angelina she looks ugly in those photos. She looks like an insect!

  48. kate says:

I call BS on this story – Angelina is too old for that role – puh-lease

    • Hipocricy says:

Jolie was considered for this role PRIOR to Jennifer.

If Jen is the one taking her leftovers, it only means that she looks OLD ENOUGH herself to replace an actress 15 years her senior in the same role !

  49. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

It would have been a lot better if the role had been played by someone’s Angelina’s age rather than JLaw’s age. It was kind of unbelievable that this woman was a widow at 22. Of course it’s possible but I personally would have found it a lot more realistic, romantic and dramatic if Angelina (or at least someone her age) had played the female lead but she wouldn’t have worked with Bradley or Wahlberg. She seems a little unhinged in real life so maybe she would have been over-the-top instead of being the every-woman.

    I loved this movie BTW.

    • lisa2 says:

Who are you saying is “unhinged” in real life.

Angelina is a woman that is totally in control or life. Don’t see anything unhinged about her. Not talking about tabloid stories or gossip.

and Jennifer seems very leveled headed and on point. I think she is really great.

I’m like SMH at the people that persist in trying to paint Angelina as some crazy person. When in fact everyone that meets or works with her talks of her intelligence and professionalism. I think at this point in the game the naysayers about her need to put up or STFU. because going back to what she did or said when she was 20 something is beyond old. I see that Drew B has had way more of a colorful past then Angelina, and yet nobody is throwing her past up every single second.

They are both talented women. Why women can’t support other women without it being some girl fight is sad. You don’t see this with men. But gossip was invented for women so we get what we get.

  50. blunt talker says:

Whether this story is true or not, when actressess get into their thirties Hollywood has already begun getting the twenty-somethings in line to replace them. If I was an actress turning 30 today, I would be planning my second career choice. Hollywood has always been about the next hot young thing with talent.

  51. A says:

NE equals bullshit. I love Jolie and I am very meh on JenLaw. However, neither one of these ladies are petty. Frankly, I do think JenLaw comes across as mean with the whole “I’m obese, like that photo of Val Kilmer on the beach”, the bitching about other actresses being lollipops and bitchy comments about eating disorders, the repeated insensitive comments about LBGQT folks, etc.

One can be mean or even be a bitch and still not be a petty drama queen. I adore Charlize, but she’s apparently a real bitch on wheels. However, she’s not a drama queen. Actually, there really are not that many actresses’ today that I think are catfighting or being petty. If anything, the men seem more petty (i.e. Sean Penn). There really have not been any direct or heavily implied insults in the press from one major female star to another unless you think of Halle, Gwyneth, Madonna, and Winona. Instead, you have someone like Judd Apatow bitching about Anne Hathaway because she turned down knocked up.

It’s sexist and kind of ironic that the tabloids go out of there way to create these false feuds between ladies and mostly ignore the men sniping at each other. I swear some older male actor made a dig about Leo that was hilarious but bitchy. I just can’t recall who it is at the moment 🙁

  52. jk says:

I dont ever remember seeing an article or a clip of AJ cutting any one down. She doesn’t do that and I doubt if she hates Jen Anniston either. I just saw a clip where AJ said she wants to work more behind the cameras and she is going to direct another movie very soon, In fact the jenhens went nuts over that and immediately called her names and on and on (the usual crap) I think AJ is a great actress and she and Brad have made a family together and do good things for the poor and needy and both have done good behind the camera as well as in front. I don’t think she is jealous of any woman who looks at Brad LOl I think they are both secure in their life and love together. I wish them well and cant wait for her direct another movie.

    • lisa2 says:

The people that don’t like her have their talking points. If Angie is working then she is a terrible mother, abandoning her children; she doesn’t take care of them, the nannies are raising them. Mind you this is only for Angie and never the other female celebrities with children. If she is not working then they go to their next attack, her career is over and nobody wants to work with her. She is not being offered roles..now all this despite hearing director after directer say the would love to work with her.

Now she is directing another film and they are up in arms mad because all their rants look idiotic. They find her a terrible actress yet they watch her films. They find her boring yet they follow every move she makes. She is called a famewhore despite the fact that she has not really been seen in months. She pimps her kids but the children are rarely photographed. Yeah makes not sense but they don’t have much in terms of logic to see how dumb their assertions are.

  53. Kosmos says:

I don’t know what’s really true here, but I can say from observation that Jennifer Lawrence is a far better actress than Jolie. So if the studio picked Lawrence over Jolie, I think they did the right thing…she’s just got something different to offer that Jolie doesn’t have, so what can I say? Angie, you’ve had your roles and your turn, so now move over and share with other young, more talented actresses.

    • lisa2 says:

Your reading comprehension is in need of an overhaul. The studio didn’t pic Jennifer over Angelina. Angelina backed out of the project when the Director she wanted to work with was no longer attached. So if she backed out of the project it is highly unlikely that she lost the part.

The need for people like you to think that Angie is crying in corners because of lose work is amazing. The thing I love about her is she is and will never be the insecure person you and other need her to be. Unlike most actresses that are at her level of the game she doesn’t feel the need to work every other month. The woman could be in a movie every 4 months. She has said that it is not important to her. And she is showing that it is not. Happy to burst your bubble but you better find someone else to wrap in that insecurity blanket. Angelina doesn’t need ti.

  54. Paige says:

All this AJ worship is crazy.

    • lisa2 says:

and funny how you don’t find the hate crazy at all.

    • FirstTimer says:

I think what’s crazy is how it’s so easy for people to believe the “negative” stories when there are obvious, solid, news reports that say otherwise. If there are people who want to believe NE, then fine. But those who have read and followed SLP through reliable movie sources like, Deadline, Indiewire and Variety, we of course want to just state the actual timeline of what happened. NE just saw an opportunity to paint an “evil Angie” picture once again when Russell mentioned her name in a recent interview as someone who was interested on the role. But there was never a mention of Lawrence beating her for it. If people actually paid attention, back in 2011, these were the actresses that Jen reportedly beat out for the role, Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough, and Olivia Wilde. This is per Deadline… No mention of Angelina. I personally just stating what I know from these “reliable” film news source. But if you would rather believe NE and brand the comments as “woshipping” then go ahead. This comment might be for those who want to learn and are intelligent enough to read the exact issue of this topic.

      • ROTFLMAO says:

Don’t bother trying to lead the haters to the truth. You could provide them with the link to the Deadline story and they still wouldn’t believe you. Deadline also had 2 stories months earlier saying Jolie was meeting with David O. Russell about Silver Linings and then followed it up later saying she’d turned down the role because of scheduling conflicts. They then broke the news that Jolie would be directing her first feature film and that’s why she’d turned down Russell. This was a fully 6 months before JLaw landed the role. In the meantime every other actress in Hollywood was scrambling to win the role. Deadline only listed some of the more than 20 actresses who tried out for a part that Russell was practically begging Jolie to take.

It’s the same story time and time again with Jolie. She turns down movie roles an then it’s later reported that she was passed over in favor of someone else. The NE wrote a very similar article earlier in the year when Sandra Bullock started filming Gravity. They said Jolie was jealous because she was passed over for Bullock when the exact opposite was true. Jolie turned down Gravity TWICE before Alfonso Curon moved on to other actresses. The studio wouldn’t even let some of the actresses who wanted the role audition because the budget was so huge that they needed someone who could open a movie. Jolie turned down Gravity because the script needed work. The studio thought it was fine as is. Gravity was supposed to come out in November and be an awards contender. It has now been pushed back to sometime in 2013 with no definite release date. BUT, as we all know telling the truth, that Jolie has the pick of every script out there and turns down just about all of them, doesn’t sell tabloid magazines or get ratings for tabloid “entertainment” shows. The woman has been in a solid relationship with Pitt for 8 years, the people who work with her have nothing but positive and lovely things to say about her – and yet the tabloids insist on continuing to paint her as the evil beet queen. They don’t get it – that BS doesn’t sell anymore. They’re Chicken Little and the sky has never fallen. The only people who cling to the ridiculous notion that Jolie is a living manifestation of evil are the sicko haters who NEED to believe it’s true because otherwise they have to admit that Jennifer Aniston is her own worst enemy and is responsible for the death of her marriage herself. Acknowledging that would probably give them all massive heart attacks and they’d drop dead on the spot.
