Robin Wright shows off her super-short pixie cut: really cute or not so much?

These are some new photos of Robin Wright in NYC yesterday. In the candid pics, Robin was arriving in New York with her young lover, Ben Foster. I like that they’re holding hands in some of the pics – he seems kind of protective of her, but not in “get behind me, woman” kind of way. The other photos – the red carpet pics – are from last night’s premiere of Robin’s new film, House of Cards. Ben was not on her arm on the red carpet – maybe they’re not at that place yet? I would love it if they walked a carpet together though.

Robin chopped her hair last year, if I remember correctly, but lately she’s been rocking an even shorter ‘do. What are your thoughts? I’m kind of meh on it. I’m not a total short-hair hater, but I just think pixie cuts and full-on “grown out buzz cuts” are particularly strong looks that not every woman can pull off. Robin comes close to pulling it off, and I’m sure she feels happy and comfortable with the short hair… but I remember how great she looked with longer hair. Right? This super-short hair emphasizes her more masculine features. It bugs me. I’m also bothered by the idea that “women of a certain age” NEED to have shorter hair – not every woman can or should rock this kind of hairstyle.

Meanwhile, Robin was in Washington DC a few days ago and she met with some of Pres. Obama’s staffers about the Congo:

Actress Robin Wright is hoping President Obama will do more to aid the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She went to the White House Tuesday to meet with officials from his National Security Council and push for a special presidential envoy.

Wright, who was married for 14 years to Sean Penn, told POLITICO she traveled to Eastern Congo last year and was struck by the corruption and violence.

“The minerals that come from the Congo are, shall we say, dirty — blood-diamond dirty,” Wright said. “I just feel it’s our duty to clean them up.”

On Tuesday she accompanied activists from World Pulse and the Enough Project to the White House, where they presented NSC officials with a petition with more than 100,000 signatures seeking the appointment of a presidential envoy.

“This moment is bringing the petition to the front lines, finally,” Wright said.

I didn’t know Robin was involved in the Congo issue – that’s one of Ben Affleck’s big humanitarian issues too, isn’t it? Anyway, I like that she came to the White House with a set goal, a hard request and a major petition. Hopefully Pres. Obama will consider it!

PS… I really do think that the sex between Ben and Robin is probably HOT HOT HOT.

no i don’t like the short hair.

  2. RocketMerry says:

At least it’s not the Miley cut anymore. Anything is better than that.

  3. laura says:

I miss her long blond hair!!! she was so beautiful, she still is but it is not the same…

  4. Ms Kay says:

That hole in the neck is a tad irking…

Not a big fan of the pixie cut, it reveals her strong square jaw line and makes her look severe.

I miss her Kelly Capwell hair… *sigh*

  5. T.C. says:

I think it’s too short but maybe she’s over being the blonde beauty if you know what I mean. She has been that her entire life. She’s having her time of liberation and happiness.

  6. CW says:

it just ages her big time
    prob 10+ yrs
    too bad

  7. MrsBPitt says:

I remember her on Santa Barbara and the first thing I noticed was her gorgeous hair…not loving the short do…the shape of her face is too angular for that style…

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Agree. This cut would look similar on Sandra Bullock; pretty lady, but not the right facial features for a ‘do like that. Although I think it is working for Gennifer Goodwin and Jamie Lee Curtis. But no so much for Anne or Miley..JMHO

  8. Bubbling says:

I’m loving it cause in my head that’s her own little way of not giving a flying fu!k…And I’ll always respect a women with Dr. Martens on 🙂

  9. carrie says:

too short in my opinion but she needs to slow on the botox also

    • Telmo says:

It’s evident she’s not using botox. She has the same face as always, only a little older.
I think she’s beautiful but the longer hair suits her better

  10. Abby says:

I love a short pixie cut ….. on the right face. You’re right. Robin’s face is a bit too masculine to pull this look off. She needs some length to soften her up. She’s beautiful regardless – just not my favorite look on her.

    • judyjudy says:

I have the same shaped face and could never pull off this look. It’s too mannish. BUT she looks confident and beautiful so more power to her.

    • DreamyK says:

I agree, it does look a tad mannish on her. I wonder though if all this Hollywood hair cutting off business is because of the obsession with hair coloring and extensions? Like, maybe they have to take their hair to ground zero to get healthy hair again?

  11. Quinn says:

Little harsh on her particular face.

  12. Jocelyn says:

She is pretty regardless, but I would love to see her with long hair again or at least shoulder length.

I love these two together. They make a hot couple.

  13. Jaxx says:

Not so much. Definitely not so much.

  14. Launicaangelina says:

I want her black Doc Martin looking boots!

  15. Nancy says:

Too short not a good look for her particular face but she and Ben do look good together.

  16. rachael says:

Although I like her with long hair, she DOES have the bone structure and attractiveness to pull off a short cut like this – not everyone does. e.g. Kate Middleton

  17. Murphy says:

It ages her. When I first looked at the picture I thought it was Jamie Lee Curtis

  18. Jessica says:

They are such a hawt couple!!

  19. Loira says:

She looks fine, but her features are not delicate enough to look her best with her hair this short.
Anne Hthaway was another one, when she first cut her hair and was too thin, she looked bad, actually, and now that the hair is a bit longer, it softnes her features.
Ah, it will grow back anyway.

  20. N-Bear says:

The face shape is key when it comes to pulling off a pixie. If there is a nice oval with the cheekbones being the widest part of the face – no problem. If the jaw is wider and continues the cheekbone line straight down – a pixie won’t do you any favors. A stronger jaw needs more fullness at the top – or a longer cut.

I want a pixie, but I have an oblong face like Robin – dangit.

    • crumbcake says:

Completely agree–pixie cuts look best on heart shaped faces or women with a more narrow jawline. She doesn’t look horrible, but it’s just not the most flattering to her face shape. She would look better with a short bob angled with longer hair around her chin. But maybe she just wanted a drastic change that was easy to style.

  21. fabgrrl says:

I thought that was Jamie Lee Curtis when I first saw the photo.

  22. Jen34 says:

It is cruel to say, but she is too old and too big faced for that look. She is lovely, but she isn’t Audrey Hepburn.

    • velourazure says:

      lol @ “big-faced”

what IS that hole in her neck?

      • Telmo says:

I remember the first time I saw her hole. It was in Unbreakable, a movie that came out in 2000. There’s a scene where she begs Bruce Willis a second chance on their marriage. She acts amazing in that scene, but the hole was so distracting.

  23. Agnes says:

i love robin. her hair looks great! makes me miss having short hair. 🙂

  24. Sean says:

It’s Robin Wright. She is beautiful no matter what.

  25. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

On this match: I think they look too brother-sisterly together, esp with her hair that short. Though, they are pretty hot in a strange way I think. I recognize him from a Disney show from the 90s..I believe he and Gosling competed for similar roles in their teens and early 20s.

  26. LeeLoo says:

If Robin were under 25 it would have been cute. But on a 45 year old woman with her face type, the pixie bob isn’t so cute. It makes her look closer to 55 and very masculine.

  27. km says:

I love it! I also love doc martens. I wish I could dress like her. I’m too hippy to wear what she wears though. It just doesn’t read the same way.

  28. KellyinSeattle says:

I think pixie cuts look best with some earrings, so no, don’t really like it.

  29. d says:

I think she looks just fine and more importantly, she looks HEALTHY and happy and at peace. So more power to her. She looks good with Ben too. That’s a good pairing, it seems.

  30. holly hobby says:

As a fan of Princess Buttercup and Kelly of Santa Barbara, I hate her hair! Really who told her that was a good idea. She does look like a man.

  31. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I think Robin is a *very* beautiful woman, but I don’t like this hair cut on her. On Anne Heche and Halle Berry (for a few examples)- yes, on Robin, no.

As for the older women vs long hair debate, I think it comes down to finding the right style for you as you age. That does NOT mean that when you hit 40 that you HAVE to have a pixie cut BUT, if the long hair style down to your butt drags your face/features down and makes you look older once you hit 40 or so, then it might be time for a lovely shoulder length do (which could take years off you).
Not all women look good with a pixie cut and the same goes for not all women look good with curtains of long hair either.

  32. kim says:

Nope don’t like it. Makes her look too aggressive, like an extra on sons of anarchy.

  33. DoMaJoReMc says:

She’s so beautiful, she could pull off ANYTHING! 🙂
