Is Jude Law finally spending time with his 3-year-old daughter Sophia?

Have people forgotten about Jude Law’s “situation” with his one-time lover Samantha Burke? And by “one time” I mean “literally, one time.” Jude met Samantha Burke one night in late 2008. She came home with him. He was sick and heavily medicated. They had unprotected sex. She got pregnant, decided to keep the baby and Jude demanded a paternity test and then barely acknowledged that yes, he did father a fourth child (his other three kids are by his ex-wife Sadie Frost). The whole thing seemed very sleazy and sketchy, but Jude managed to move on from the incident with very little damage to his reputation. He probably doesn’t want to remind anyone about his daughter (Sophia, born September 2009) by Samantha, but here’s Star Magazine, bringing her up:

After a three-year Cold War, Jude Law has finally made an uneasy peace with his baby mama, Samantha Burke, who gave birth to his daughter, Sophia, in 2009. Jude, who demanded a paternity test to prove the child was his, has kept Samantha and Sophia at arm’s length.

“Even after the DNA test, he dealt with them in a very businesslike fashion,” explains a family friend, but Jude’s ex-wife, Sadie Frost, helped open his heart: “Sadie insisted that Sophia be treated as an equal sister to his other kids.”

Now Jude’s relationship with his daughter is stronger than ever.

“He made sure the little one was at his 40th birthday with his other kids, who have taken to calling her their little sister… when Jude flies to New York, he tries to see his Sophia as often as possible.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this were true. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Jude has only seen his daughter a handful of times over the years. It was my understanding that Samantha moved back to Florida and she’s raising Sophia there…? But Samantha did pick up $300,000 for Sophia’s first photos, so maybe Samantha moved back to New York (where she met Jude for the first time) after Sophia was born. I don’t know. Do you judge Jude for not wanting to be too involved with Samantha and Sophia? I would hope that he would spend more time with Sophia, of course, but I think Samantha is… odd. She’s “off” somehow. Eh.

Jude was so sketchy for a while, back there. And, considering the reputation he has, getting a fan knocked up seemed like such an amateur move. He also looked really rough, all of which made me wonder what kind of a bad time/mid life crisis he was going through.

That said, he has always appeared to take his fatherhood very seriously and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to be part of his child’s life, regardless of the circumstances.

The moment he got the paternity test results, especially having three children, he should have stepped up.

It’s great if he’s doing it now but I’ll always side eye him; he couldn’t have
been too sick if he had the time to pick a woman up and have sex with her.

+1. And honestly even if Samantha seems ”off” that’s no excuse not to see your child. Imagine her growing up seeing her father on camera and jetsetting around the world, but seeing her once a year–if that. I’ll be side-eyeing this douche forever.

  3. dorothy says:

I always got the vibe that Samantha tried to “cash in” with publicity, etc.. on Jude and the baby. Just a feeling.

I think she TRIED but Jude just isn’t big enough a star over here for people to care, and the UK has too many Z-List celebrities to waste energy on some fool from Florida. Unless Sam got huge breast implants, a fake tan and started penciling in her brows, the Brits wouldn’t even notice her.

  4. Micki says:

I’m glad all his children are treated equally now

  5. serena says:

Yeah she’s more like ‘crazy’ than off.

I judge him.He is an adult, he made a choice by having unprotected sex and should take care and love his daughter even if she wasnt born into a loving and steady relationship. Even if he objected to the mother having the baby. I am glad its changed every child deserves to be loved by their parents.

IDK. From what I’ve heard before, he was sick with the flu, or something. Some of those flu medicines can really knock you on your ass. Add in alcohol, even one drink. Jude could have been tripping, and thought he was using protection.

I’d say Samantha Burke is a gold-digger, but I actually think she is a bit psycho.

He has to keep his distance from her. Remember he accompanied her to a doctor’s appointment and she set up a pap opportunity to catch it. I don’t trust her. Now that the child is older I am sure he will spend more and more time with her, flying her to his home. Plus I bet he has seen her more than we know. He lives his life quietly. He has always been a good dad to the others.

“When” he’s in New York, he “tries” to see her as often as possible. Wow. Father of the Year.

  9. Rosmarina says:

I’m pretty sure that in the NYT profile around the time Anna Karenina came out he said that he was in regular contact with the little girl.

  10. Mia 4S says:

He did what was legally required, the rest is not my business. It’s a shame if he doesn’t see her much but she’s provided for. The mother really gave off the vibe of trying to cash in at the time but as was said up thread; it’s Jude Law, no one cared.

  11. V4Real says:

If he is great but Jude can you spend some time with me too; you can bring Sophie i’ll be hour nanny.

  12. Tulip says:

Bah. She’s an opportunist at best. This whole thing is skanky. If he’s paying chIld support, then good. I’d be checking every receipt though.

  13. Dani says:

She somehow reminds me a lot of his ex wife, Sadie. He definitely has a type, looks wise.

  14. EmmaStoneWannabe says:

The thing is..this hookup (2008) was AFTER he was caught doing the nanny when he was with Sienna (2005). That girl went way public with the affair too. I mean, you’d think the guy would learn to keep it in his pants. I love him as an actor (he takes my breath away in Cold Mountain) but he is a skeezy guy for sure. No telling what kind of “germs” he has.

  15. Ryan says:

As a girl who grew up without any acknowledgment from her father, yes, I judge Jude for not wanting to be involved. That baby didn’t ask to be conceived or carried to term. She can’t help who her parents are. I can tell you from my experience, it’s crushing to know one of your parents wants nothing to do with you.

  16. Cletus says:

this is why it’s a terrible idea to have babies with randoms. that shit never works out, and the ones who pay for it are the kids. he should have used a condom, she should have insisted he use a condom or break out her own damn birth control. it’s creepy for a woman to decide to have a baby with some dude she doesn’t know and then crawl up on the cross and nail herself in– if you are a woman (like i am) and you decide to have a baby with a random, i don’t think it’s fair to expect an awesome warm reception from the “father”. if you want to be a single mom, then be one. okay, fine, the father has to be financially responsible but i think it’s ludicrous to expect the fella to be all thrilled about it and shit. and like i said, the one who really gets punished for the mom railroading the dad is the kid, and that ISN’T fair- but I think it’s human nature. i can’t think of anyone who likes to get hemmed up by someone else. and i think she (that samantha person) is creepy, too. i think she saw dollar signs when she saw that pregnancy test.)

I’m in Pensacola, Florida, where that chick is from, and there hasn’t been any word about Jude Law about town, so I’m guessing she’s back in New York. I’m a former reporter with lots of friends still in the biz, and believe me in this tiny town word of Jude Law would have started spreading like wildfire the minute he entered city limits.

    • Cletus says:

I’m in Pensacola, too- and what you said is balls-on accurate. No way would we not have heard he was coming to town! That shit would be advertised on the graffiti bridge SO FAST!

The Samantha woman seems like a gross oppurtunist gold digger who wanted to cash in.
